Thursday NYC
Saw Anthony on Conan last night. Sounds like his book is really interesting. I thought he did a great job. As for all the tension on the board, it is kind of a drag. We are doing the Panic Channel site and it will be up on October 31st. Maybe things will smooth out with more places to post, but for now, we should all just try to get each other's backs. New York is awesome and I sometimes wish I lived here. Tonight is the Bookends signing in Ridgewood, New Jersey. It shouldn't be much busier than the one in the city, I would expect no more than 100 people or so. Should be a great time. I'll see some of you there.
Love,
DN

Hey all! Sean here.
Just droppin in to say hi! Dave, just got done reading the book. Took me back to a lot of places I wasn't sure I wanted to relive in my head, but ultimately, it felt good doing so and coming to that happy ending-beginning. Kudos to you and Neil for putting this out there for all to experience with you.
Anyways, I'll be picking up my Camp Freddy tickets at Irving Plaza tonite (hopefully it's still on sale).
FOR ALL THE 6767 PEEPS...the question I propose to all of you in NYC going to the show (or not going): shall we converge somewhere to hang out before the show? Dinner at a restaurant maybe? Meetup in Union Square? Some of us met eachother at the book signing Monday, some of us didn't. This would be a cool way to chill without having to form a line, heheh. So does this sound cool to you guys/gals? Anyone know of a good restaurant or should we meetup in Union Square before the show?
Let's hear your thoughts people! :)
Peace,
Sean

As always welcome to NYC!
There's a great restaurant called Asia de Cuba in Midtown, good people watching if you want something different than the Village or Soho.
Go up to the Met if you have a chance, dude, very inspiring.

Hello all,
I'm new to this board, but was on the old-school one baby uni, and on Deena's mailing list. I was never a very vocal "poster", but enjoyed that community very much - I think my "alias" was sleep41000, which was my old email address. (as in "i am tired, i am weary, i could sleep for a thousand years". hello to all of the lurking baby unis, hope everyone is doing well. glad to see the "fan base" is growing, as well.
ANYWAY
I'm so glad to see 6767.com back up, I had given up on it for a while. I just checked Tuesday, thinking perhaps it was back up due to the book release, and little did I know it had been going strong all summer. Needless to say, I had alot of catching up to do, spent hourse reading through all of the past months posts.
I was wondering if dave plans on answering any more questions, as he did in some of the blogs from the summer? If so, I was left with a multitude of inquiries and ideas buzzing around in my head after reading the book (which was an amazing artistic achievement, i must say). fear not, Mr. Navarro, nothing too personal - more along the lines of wanting a detailed account of your meeting with Lou Reed (i was so glad, yet unsurprised, that he loved your version of VIF), more thoughts about the Warhol influence, etc. if you do intend on answering more Q's, should we just post them here, or email your panic channel email?
so jealous of those of you having gone, or going, to the signings...
lovingly,
caroline

Dave & DN family,
Greetings from Tampa, Florida. I am on vacation this week.
Dave listen to KEVIN. Asia de Cuba is excellent. Nice decor and great food.
Dave, I finished the book last night. I thought that it was great. I am sad to hear that your former P.A. Jen passed away. ¿How has your family (excluding your father and step-mother) responded to your book? ¿Supportive? ¿Shocked? ¿Disgusted?
SEAN, it would be a great idea to meet up before the show. Because of work, the earliest that I can get there is at 5:45. I am probably going to have my girlfriend get on line for me at around 5pm.
If Emily, Ellen, Hector, Itanja, Denise, etc. want to meet up before the show, please let me know via e-mail.
Later,
Mike from NYC

you mentioned a couple/few? months back that you and eric avery were gonna hook up.
how was you two'z 'hang-time'?
did you guys jam? ...make any loose plans to get together and jam?, or even more exciting....record something?
You guys have a sound together that (to my ears) i could only simply describe as 'oceanic', a very beautiful sonic vibe...put it that way...

I almost forgot one thing. I live in Oklahoma, and as it is probably apparent, I have no way of getting to California to go to the book signings. So here was my question: For any of you who are going to the signing, do you think, you could have a book signed for me and then ship it to me? I am willing to pay all book costs and shipping costs before you send the book to me. I would reallly love nothing more than to have his book signed. I know that they are probably rather strict with "one book per person" at those things, but perhaps if Dave OKs it beforehand and whoever just tells him that it is for me. If anyone can do that for me, I would forever be in your debt.
Greg

Hi Mike,
I'll email you later about getting together to meet the night of the CF gig. I don't think any of us have decided where to go yet. There are some nice places around there to meet for dinner OR drinks or both. :)
I'm preparing to go for a serious & invasive medical procedure later today. I usually don't post such personal info here, I have been on pins & needles for a few days.
Meeting Dave & the great 6767-ers at the book signing the other night certainly took mind OFF today, I appreciate just meeting & talking with everyone there.
I certainly didn't need that uncalled for aggro last night considering the more serious things on my mind.
With deepest apologies to DAVE & apologies accepted from WhitePony.
take care,
itanja

Hi all!
I like the pic, Dave, you look so stern :D
Oh, and happy b~day, Steve!
I got this Hungry screen saver off ebay today, and it's pretty damn funny. Someone please tell me why a poodle would want to eat a turtle, only to go on making sweet lurve to it in an empty box of ice cream *lol*
I'd sure like to know who the hell came up with that scenario. The damn screen saver even plays 'Hungry' in the background, and when I went downstairs earlier I suddenly heard noises from upstairs. My dog started growling, before she realized it was just another DN track, haha :)
Bah, I just burned my dinner. Looks like it'll be take-out today as well. Ah well :o)
Have a good one, everyone!

happy birthday steve!! from one libra to another...libra's rock! lol...gots to have lots of libran love lol.
and as for the camp freddy show in NYC i'm all game for meeting up with people...but please keep in mind...i'm only 19...so if possible, could it be a place that's under 21 friendly as well :-) thank you so much...and if not...i'll just meet up with you guys at the show. once again i will state how much of an awesome experience it was meeting all of you guys...you really were part of that whole magical night for me so thank you so much!

Peace, prayer and good vibes to la toda familia!
I just wanted to say that this site has such a great sense love and friendship that I was sorry to see so much disharmony from yesterday's board. I hope love will heal all.
This is a place where I feel really comfortable to just surf in and walk around in my underwear, scratch myself and see what's in the fridge... I guess I mean that we all respect each other to know that we all have different opinions and feelings. It is the differences that make us who we are. I love the differences.
I guess I just want to say thanks and rock on to everyone here.
Steve (IMABOUTADO)
PS. Dave. The book is a killer! I read about 150 pages last night. I was laughing out loud at parts. Other parts I was just shaking my head and saying, "F$&K!"
You made it dude.

Emily: I'm 20, and I think a few others are under 21 as well, so I don't think you'll have to worry about going somewhere 21+. We'll find a good restaurant around the Union Square/Irving Plaza area. I'll be around that area later tonite, so I'll pass by a few places and see how they are.

Dave you had a rant! Did you do it for me? I know you did... j/k
We had my daughters 5th birthday party the other day, and here we were in this mexican restuarant (yummmm) and our whole family was there and somehow the subject of what kind of posters are on the wall in my 13 year old son's room came up... So my daughter yells out in front of everyone "HE HAS CARMEN ELECTRA, HIS GIRLFRIEND ON THE WALL!!!!!!!!" my poor son was so embarrassed, I didn't know what to do, so I tried to smooth it over by saying that I put the poster up in there, but apparently it's not very cool for a mom to do that, because my son glared at me, and didn't speak to me for the rest of the day....
...ahhhhhhh teen angst, now I remember why I hated being 13
Posted by: Cynthia at October 7, 2004 11:24 AM
Itanja... good luck!
Steve and Emily ... Happy Birthday!
Dave... Can't wait to see you on Conan tonight. And thanks for sharing your innermost thought and experiences with us in the book. And you and Carmen should definitely consider a move to NY. :)
Sean - Getting together before the show is a great idea. (I for one will certainly have the time now! LOL)
There's a cool place called Galaxy, right near Irving Plaza. (It's still there, right?) I used to go there a lot when I worked nearby years ago. So that's another option. There are a lot of other really nice places in the area as well, but some of them can get pricey.
There's another cool, funky diner-ish kind of place nearby, a few blocks down and over, but I can't remember the name right now. Dang! (Don't you hate when that happens? LOL) Itanja... anyone... do you know which one I'm talking about?

almost weekend, i'm going to some african party saturday of a friend of a friend of mine...don't know what to expect. we'll see! very exciting. if it sucks we'll just go dancing at a club and get drunk and have a great time anyway

Sounds like NYC is really doing it for you. It also sounds brilliant how the book signings are going...wish i lived in the US. I've just ordered Don't Try This At Home on Amazon.com - no one in the UK knows anything about it! I can't buy it in Borders or Waterstones over here. I think I got it at a good price - $29 - so I think that's about £14/£15.
Dave, there is a small base of Jane's fans, RHCP and fans of you in the UK. Will The Panic Channel be over to play any gigs?
Posted by: Julie at October 7, 2004 12:55 PM
tension on the board? Ok i must totally missing something here... you mean the comments on this blog? or an actual message board separate from this one? haha shows how many online places i visit..
anyways,
Steve L- Happy Birthday!
I finished reading the book and just LOVE it. I think it's the coolest idea and turned out a masterpiece! I have all these old letters and emails and instant messaging conversations (and even message board posts) that I keep and it's so crazy going back to them after some years have passed.
The writing I find to be so real and honest and human. I laughed, got concerned, and cried for joy. I love the structure of it- the stories and taped conversations and letters. It's quite unique and creative and makes the whole story so much more interesting to read. What I wish was that it was a bit longer.. more taped conversations/letters.. such as the part when Dave finally got a hold of Neil when the record people pulled an intervention on him but it wasn't recorded. I think that would have been perfect to tape and add in there as it would really bring home how drugs can tear someone apart. Not that it doesn't already bring home that point, it would just add a little oomph to it. But I can see how it would be left out if you don't want it to be overly dark.
What the book says to me is "it's ok if you have gone a little crazy with all the drug use, it's ok to have issues and work through them... there is always hope that you will get through it, with the right support you'll have an excellent chance of staying alive and lifting the fog."
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, Dave. Thanks so much to Neil for coming along for the ride and writing in such an open and human way.
Respect to you both.
oh, one thing I gotta ask... Dave, did you REALLY get away with the cops all those times?

what i find amazing is not how dave evaded the cops, but how he really evaded the media. i mean his drug use was publicized but not in a courtney love/scott weiland way (which btw i think is so terrible...the last thing people in that position need is to be judged). i'm still in awe of that story though...just how much you went through and you really came out the other side :-)

Kyle, I’m going to the Oct. 12 signing. If I can’t make it to that one I’m going to try to swing by Oct. 14 after the tonight show taping. I’ll do my best kid.
I know there are tons of VR fans here so FYI they will be at Jay Leno on Oct. 14. For more info check the VR fan board. www.velvetrevolverforum.com under the news section.

Emma~ it's funny you mentioned Myst...my brother just bought the 10th anniversary pack...10 years ago we tried to play the game and got STUMPED so he went and got the new game and figured "If we weren't able to beat it at 8 and 13, hopefully we can beat it at 18 and 23!" I still haven't installed it on my comp cuz I HAVE to study for midterms but as soon as they're over I'm sure I'll be addicted :)

Finally got the book! Well...kind of.
I've spent the past few days searching my middle of nowhere Northern Ontario city for the book and nobody has it, so I ordered a copy. In 5-7 business days plus payment of $50, i'll own a copy! Woo! Gives me something to look forward to next week!

Good day, and welcome to the instigating post of the day
Just got off the phone with beautiful Amber of Sam Goody. Evidently, you don't HAVE to buy the book at Sam Goody, they don't have it yet, though they do have Anthony's (hmmmm)
They do say that as of today, they are expecting people to line up starting at 7, they realize that Dave says there were only 100 people at New York signing, but they would like me to remind folks at home that LA is where it's AT, direct quote, and that they expect quite a crowd. They do reiterate their belief that if you have a wristband, no matter where you are, you will get it signed.
That does it for me, I have been told I am in administrative meetings that day, won't get out of school till 5, I will get down there about 7 PM....sigh, sigh, sigh
back to the suicidal tendencies, perspectiveperspectiveperspective, oh, to be young and carefree again

yeah, jez, that's what i was told. so i am buying my book somewhere else and just showing up as early as possible. still on for HRC after??????

NOOOOOOOOOOO, here is the other side of the book signing drama. Book Soup, the place where Dave is signing on Thursday. Beautiful Brenda says, give me your credit card number, you pay for the book over the phone, we hold it for you until Thursday evening, come to the counter and get your book and your ticket, they are giving out 200 tickets, you can also order and have it shipped to you signed, wonderful people in Atlanta, and overtheocean.
However, I am all for rocking at the Cafe!!

ATTN: 6767'ERS GOING TO SEE CAMP FREDDY AT IRVING PLAZA ON OCT 21ST!
For those of you who want to meet up before the show, here's the plan I propose.
There is a restaurant called Lemon that's five blocks from Irving Plaza. The prices are moderately cheap, they serve excellent food, and is the least expensive and least crowded restaurant in the area that I could find. But the best part of this thing, THEY HAVE A PHOTO BOOTH THAT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE IN DTTAH! It's there right when you walk in! As soon as I saw that and the good prices/food on the menu, I knew I had to mention this here to everyone as a possible place to gather before the show. Even if your not going to the show or don't want to eat, but still want to meet up, come by and just order water and take photos with all the other 6767 people! This is a guaranteed good time.
Does this idea sound cool with the rest of you? We should set up some sort of temporary page with info on the meetup before the show. If anyone has any other ideas as well for the meetup, post em!
Goodnight everyone!
- Sean

"what i find amazing is not how dave evaded the cops, but how he really evaded the media. i mean his drug use was publicized but not in a courtney love/scott weiland way"
that is probably because he isn't Courtney or Scott. He was quite mellow and didn't go out all boisterous and cause scenes all over the place. He was holed up in his house, his factory. What the media loves is controversy, and any controversy Dave created was within his own world in the house the majority of the time and not in public.
Well that's my take on it, at least.

“THEY HAVE A PHOTO BOOTH THAT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE IN DTTAH!
K, that’s a sign if I ever did see one. Count me in.
I'm also in at the HRC. I just asked my boss and I can leave work at 5. woohoo
Posted by: wendybird at October 7, 2004 05:12 PM
mortisha/maria...you make an excellent point there...dave even wrote it in the book where he was polite and cooperative while being apprehended in Nevada...so that makes a lot of sense
and sean...lemon sounds really cool...i'll have to get back to ya on that...prob within the next few days...but thanks for the suggestion!
that's all i have to say really lol...adios

Hi Dave, Family.
It seems that everything's rolling nicely with book out and so on. That's magnificent! So maybe I actually am the last heretic who doesn't yet have the book. I just doubt that it would already be out here on the edge of the civilization :-)
Just wanted to remind blondimofo (who said yesterday that 100 posts doesn't mean 100 people) that there are also us foreigners (for instance) who don't post as often as others. Why? Good question. Perhaps we can't relate to the day-to-day stuff as much (knowing that Finland is a long, long way from there). Maybe that's just my opinion, but the great thing about this site is that I can express it without the fear of being judged. THAT attitude and ambience surrounding this community is what makes it so special rather than the number of participants. That's why I read all the posts daily albeit (BTW does anyone use that word anymore???) I might write something only like once a week or so.
Anyway, I guess my subconscious meaning for this post was not to be forgotten :-)
Love all of you. Let my warm thoughts accompany those of you going to the signings.

Dave,
I heard you being interviewed on an Atlanta radio station this morning on my way to work and I haven't followed you as your many fans - but the way you handled that interview impressed me. Don't let them sensationalize what it was you've done, but make them advertise what you are doing now. Very cool - you've made a new fan today by keeping it real.
Thanks Dave.

Dave,
I'm new here, so don't really know about the overload. Don't let it get you stressed out though. It's great that you take the time to host a website and let your fans know what's going on with you. Besides, from the comments, it seems like most everyone understands. It also seems like you have some great fans. Guess that's what you get for giving so much back. Thanks.

Pekka, my transatlantic fellow fan, I love Jane Austen!!!! She's quite trendy lately, I hear, albeit in a condensed form, ala Bridget Jones....albeit, I love that word, my mom was from Minnesota, and was a fan of saying Beingasthough...huh

Hey Freak, really enjoyed listning to Janes on your radio station tonight while the chat was on (I was lurking in the background whilst lisa was chatting) Keep it up mate.

'Neida's take on "the contoversy"
Being part of a group involves communication--give and take, exchange of ideas, opinion, and possibly opining ON the opinion. That's all I see happening here. Nobody's ticked really, and when there are hurt feelings, people seems to hasten to correct any mis-read or mis-stated stuff.
We all know what happens when groups DON'T communicate and when people avoid communicating because they don't want conflict. There's lots going on here--growing pains are entirely possible. People seem to WANT to get along and that is going to smooth over a lot of things.
Even if it sounds stupid, if we just keep kissing and making up, everything will be fine.
