Sunday After

DaveandterriNew: Agency Artwork 5 is up and a few new loop ideas on the Loop Experiment page.

Q: When you post, are you a decent typist, or do you do the infamous 'two-finger' thing?

No, I can type fairly well. I go with a three finger thing.

Q: Since DTTAH was such a good read, do you think you will ever write a full autobiography?

I don't know. Maybe one day. I hadn't given it much thought.

Q: how do you get through things like this with band members who may come up with words or music that doesn't inspire you?

I just remember that I am part of a team and it is my job to serve the artistry as well as I can.

Q: Dave do you obsess about your guitar "sound" in the studio or do you know how to get exactly what you want?

I don't obsess, but I do experiment quite a bit. Sometimes I'll have a sound up and love it and then hate it the next day and redo it.

Q: In your song "Hungry" there is a man (prolly you) and a woman whispering to one another before it goes back into chorus..

"I've never seen him smile" - "Give me a reason"

Q: What happened to "til death do us part" dvd coming out this month?

I think it is due out in January.

Q: HAIR EXTENTIONS?

FLAT IRON.

Q: John Frusciante or Ani Difranco

John Frusciante

Q: How hot is GINA GERSHON?

Smokin' hot, but she's no C.E.!

Q: have ya ever written a part that has a certain mood to it and when the band get involved the mood of that part changes into something you wasn't really going for.

Totally. I look at that sort of thing as the 'magic' of being part of an ensemble.

sup dave,
i have sooo many questions....most importantly - do you think its important for every member of a band to be on the same page and all give the same amount of evergy to it??
also -is there any footage available of you on the DTTAT tour?? will you be at the NAMM show again this year. and lastly my g/f wants to know where you got that furry coat you wore when leaving the NYC camp freddy show?
thanks

Hey Dave 'n' all!

Sounds like the shows were great. Would've enjoyed them for sure. Hey Gagan, DTTAH isn't out in Finland either so you're not the only one. It's a drag to live in the peripheral world... Maybe I'll pack my bags someday and return to LA. *dreaming*

Question: What kinda things did you discuss with Lou in NYC? I'm sure there are a number of people out here who'd like to know.

Take care and have a great new week, everyone!

Hi all.

To everyone that still haven't read DTTAH, may I remind you that ebay is a wonderful thing...;)
Seriously, I should become an ebay spokesperson. They would have to pay me, of course ;)

*goes to take a look at the new agency artwork*

Have a good one everyone!

Dave,

When I was looking at all the pictures in DTTAH, I came across photo strip near the front of a guitar. I knew that it used to be Kurt's guitar because I saw it on display at Guitar Center when I visited LA in April(Its the one that says "Gaylord" next to the bridge). Is that your guitar, and you just let them put it on display, or does it belong to GC?

Dave have you heard the Ataxia "Automatic Writing" album? Its one of John Frusciante's solo projects, its pretty much a guitarists wet dream.

Dave, can you post a link to a review like you did the nascar show?

Also, what are your thoughts, Dave, is a black woman without the badonkadonk(sp) just as fly?

just caught you on howard stern a while ago...carmen was so sweet after being woken up...i would've been like "what in the hell is wrong with you?!" lol...but it was funny...it's so obvious how much you love carmen and vice versa...its' very nice and refreshing to see

Dave,

Your answer to the GINA GERSHON question reminded me to tell you this.

I've Always thought you were Hot but seeing you and Carmen on Til Death Do us Part, and just hearing about the two of you, the way you guys interact, and even just the way you talk about her makes you soooo much hotter.

Im not sure if that really makes sense.. but I guess its just seeing you as a loving guy makes you that much more sexay!

Posted by: Laura at October 24, 2004 02:34 PM

Thanks for answering both parts of my question Dave.

Thats a great outlook to have towards being in a band,so long as everyone feels the same.It just rang bells when i read that part of your book, also the chat you had with Chad when he visited you.

Ataxia is a great cd,along with all the other ones Frusciante has released this year(another one out next week!).That guy is on a serious creative roll.

P.S. I check this site at work during the week. Someone broke into my office and smashed my computer and flatscreen, so who knows when I will have my own system up and running again. . . . they trashed the place . . . just what I need after having a lousy time last week!

Wish I could have been in California for last nights show. Looks like it was a real blast. I saw some photos up at WireImage. The 'photo call' shots were cool too.

Dave,

When i first heard RHPC's Scar Tissue(single preceeding Californication album) on the radio,i had no idea that you'd left the Chili's and John was back with them,i thought that was you man,i remember thinkin'"Dave sounds different"

there was no news on yourself or John in my neck of the woods. When someone informed me it was John i remember thinkin'"Holy shit,Frusciante's makin' music again"
I had no clue what you was goin' through at the time.

Having now read your's and Anthony's books and finding out just how bad things were for you,Anthony and John i treat every release you guy's bring out as a blessing, more importantly you guy's are alive to give us music.I'm thrilled to listen to all you guy's,you've all been a huge influence on me and i look forward to new stuff all the time.

DAVE!

Hey I heard from some friends up state who were lucky enough to at the show with Reed & they also said the vibe in that place during the sets was just amazing!
Really wish I could have experienced that man.

Listen I was thinkin by any chance do you have a old silver bracelet, chain or ring you don't wear anymore which you would be willing to send me? Just some lil trinket that perhaps does not mean too much to ya anymore would really mean a lot to me. If you are willing my mailing address is below. Just thought I'd ask..........

Once again thank you for being such a source of inspiration to myself & many others.

Dave,

I dont know if you read all these, im amazed if you do, and I truly aplaud you. I have an eating disorder. I smoke pot on a daily, or an every other day basis, I have done ketamine like 15 times, and various other drugs. I drink a fair ammount. Im 16 years old. I really want to get off everything, and I really cant stand it. I wish that I could have myself clean and be happy again. Im losing my life, and I dont know how to get away other than trying new things.

Im trying to contact various rehab clinics ect... and it seems like everywhere you have to be over 18 years old. What do I do? Why wouldnt they want kids to get off drugs just like anyone else? I realize its the law that makes it difficult, not the pople who do a great jobs at these places.... but how can a kid who does want to quit do it? I just feel lost.

OH TO BE TERRI NUNN FOR THAT MOMENT!!!! YUMMY!
What can i say Dave, you just drip sex! Carmen is a lucky lady!! (and you are lucky as well!)

Seriously, it's so great to see pure enjoyment on someone's face, like you have in all the recent photos i've been seeing. I am involved with someone that is making efforts to stay off heroine. It's not easy being on this side of the addiction. Do you have any advise as to how much support can be too mcuh support? Do you know what i mean. There are so many people in his life waiting for him to fail, and they aren't afraid to let him know that. It feels as if i'm the only one letting him know i have true faith in him and his ability to make his life what he wants it to be. I don't want to overcompensate for everyone elses lack of faith in him, it's hard to know when support can become a crutch. I just want to do the right thing, and not be a pain in the ass, or make his journey my responsibilty.

Sorry to ramble, you've just become so inspriring to me. So many people think you can never beat hard core addiction. It's great to be able to say look at Dave, and so many others that have gone on to become even better than before. Thank you for being you.

Have an amazing day!

Speaking of guitar tones, I have to say that the guitar in "Ted Just Admit It" is the one of my favorite sounds ever. I remember trying to figure it out in college. The closest I ever got was a wah and the neck pickup of a Les Paul.
Anyone have some real information on that sound?

Are you KIDDING me??!! Davey Havok was a guest at the show in LA? Dammit, dammit, dammit. Why do in live in NY? (Not that I wasn't happy with the artists who graced the stage in NY, but ooooooooh, to see Dave and Davey on the same stage. OUCH!)

CHRIS===First things first
It's an awesomely brave thing to admit that you have a problem, and to also come out in public for help.

I don't have an answer for you right away, I am looking into some things and I will email you, just want to say that Alcoholics Anonymous is a safe place to start, as far as getting immediate support that is guaranteed to be confidential, and they can probably steer you in right direction for where to go for further help.

I will say this, eventually you will want to bring your family into this, for their sake as well as your own, if you need anybody to talk to in the meantime, click on my name and email me
jezebel....(speaking for a lot of us)

Posted by: jezebel at October 24, 2004 05:37 PM

Chris....

I feel your frustration... it doesn't make much sense that you haven't been able to find help easily, especially since you have been brave and resourceful enough to seek it out yourself. I trust that Jezebel, as well as the rest of the community here, including Dave, will be able to point you in the right direction, and give you the support you need to take the steps to get clean.

You're in good hands here.

Posted by: NightBird at October 24, 2004 06:57 PM

Chris,

There is this website that may be able to help you out initially or provide some information, but I agree with Jezebel and NightBird, you need to involve your family or atleast a good friend to get you to the next step. You also have us, as always. Please check it out:

Chris,

Jezebel speaks great words of wisdom. There are several AA and NA meetings around most communities. You could even go to your community's public health clinic to see a therapist. Most base the fees you'd pay on your income. Unfortunately, if you are looking to get into a rehab facility you won't be able to becuase you aren't a legal adult. If you are willing to tell your parents, they would be able to get you into one and a lot of insurance companies cover that under their mental health policies.

I think going to meetings and maybe seeing a therapist would be a really good place for you to start to get help. I've had several friends, including myself go through some of the things you are going through at your age. It's tough, but you will get through it.

You can always email me too if you need someone to talk to as well. Just click my name below.

All the best,
~Melissa~

Denise - I think I know who you are, I definitely remember two blonde girls right next to me + one with a guy. So Mike from NYC, I guess I know who you are too. And yeah, I think (along with other people, not only on this site) that Keith (the guy I was with) does look like Dave... I guess I'm really lucky. The wierd thing is not only does he look like him, but after reading DTTAH, they have similar ways of thinking and other things in common that made it very odd for me to read. Also, when they play guitar, the way they move is very similar. I also share a birthday with Carmen... I think all of that is a little freaky.

I totally misunderstood last night. The show was great, but I thought the actual PERFORMANCE was going to be broadcast. That would have been excellent: a C.F. show broadcast live on C.F.R...

Hi Chris,

As many here have stated, one of the first steps in getting over ANY addiction, is admitting that you have a problem. Only then will you get serious about doing something about it.

I have two older cousins who were heroin addicts in the 1970s & another cousins husband ended up going to jail for eight years after selling cocaine to undercover cops. Thankfully, they've ALL straightened themselves out & are 'productive members of society' with responsiblities, decent jobs & families.

Whatever caused you to start doing drugs; whether you thought it was something glamourous to do at the time OR you started doing them because you were depressed or bored....you have to come to grips with the fact that YOU are the only person who can make that step to help yourself. No one can force you to do so.

My dad nearly smoked himself to death with his 2-3 pack a day cigerette habit (he had smoked since he was 17 years old). Then suddenly he needed emergency heart surgery & went into a panic mode. He quit smoking cold turkey & hasn't picked up a cigerette in 7 years!

Addictions are scary, they take over your life & sometimes destroy it.

Observing all the addictions & the subsequent lying, stealing (one cousin broke into their parents home & robbed their valuables), loss of jobs & friends, not to mention all the pain my relatives had caused each other through their various 'addictions' (drugs, alcohol, tobacco). Their example has kept me far away from drugs & even smoking!

Sure everyone seems to need some sort of 'escapism' to get through the drudgery aspect of life; mine has been music & art. Neither of these pursuits can kill you, drugs can.

You are still quite young and corny as it sounds, you have your entire life ahead of you. Please get help.

My prayers & good vibes go to you.

take care,
itanja

Chris,

I pray for your sake that some of these wonderful people can guide you in the right direction. I can't tell you an exact place where to get help from as I'm not familiar with the local system. What I can tell you, however, is that you really should share this problem with a close person you trust and who'll be willing to help you (and not judge you because your current state IS a punishment hard enough).

I admire your courage to come forward about this despite being so young. It gives me a feeling that you're a very strong person and I believe you will make it!

Good luck, Chris!

Dave,

A long long long long time ago, I read that Anthony and Flea were present at the famous Roxy show which was recorded to be the first Jane's Addiction album. It stated that the show caused an awkward silence between the guys with Flea eventually saying something like: "it really makes me think why do we even bother to try". Have you ever heard anything like that? Do you know if any other famous frieds of yours were present at the venue?

I don't know how I come up with such strange questions about events taking place twenty years ago. Beats me. Well, anyway, just curiosity I guess.

BTW the pictures were really neat. Seems like it was a memorable night. Happy for all of you who were present.

I'm going to guess that there's quite a few members of our "Family" that are & have struggled with drug addiction (present company included). One nice thing I think D could do on this page, is provide links for people, from places they can get help, and take the first step in turning their lives around. Not only has Dave's art helped pull me through my addiction, but I've even been blessed with some very wise words directly from Dave...he really care's about his fan's...as we all know, and think that this should be a safe place for all addict's to talk to each other, and "share" in their experiences the way Dave has, and we can help reinforce his truth's, and hopefully play a part ourselves in preventing someone in our "fam" here from making an uninformed decision they will regret. I'm in recovery, so anyone else interested in talking, please feel free to email me or AIM me at EUPHORICXRECALL@aol...AIM name EuphoricXRecall... i really hope to hear from some of you! Let's make this the most helpful and positive site on the web!

BTW...in regards to my previous post, anyone on Methadone maintenance, or anyone considering using it, as a mean's to curtail your illegal drug use, please feel free to write me for information, as to whether it really is the most reasonable approach for anyone considering it... also, anyone who is presently, or has been on maintenance, i would love to talk to you as well, and discuss some of the "side effects" to methadone (i.e. ridiculous weight gain) etc... nuff rambling for now.... love 2 all

Good Morning Dave!!!!
and to all my fellow comrades....
Chris---good morning!
r3--'frisky?'---nice to hear from you, too!
Blanca-they towed my car while I was standing 10 feet away!!, at my own house---can you picture me running after it? So funny now, so tragic then

Lori, Nightbird, Cori, Maria mouse, Princess Abby, Deena, and the rest of my pretties!!!--I missed you!

Question of the day--Favorite Halloween costume--mine has to be the year I dressed as Cyndi Lauper, complete with top hat, and met a guy that had mirrors on his shoes and a trenchcoat with nothing underneath.....good times....good times......

Adrock-great suggestion, my man Brett posed the same request, in the meantime, anyone need info or support...just whistle...

hey,

Chris, my thoughts are with you and hope that in the last 12 hours you have read the things the people here have said. I think we never want to see anything bad happen to anyone; and I know I was in the same position before and it would have been a lot better if i had talked to somone about it before it got any worse.

Has anyone bought a copy of the new Rolling Stone? Dave, your picture in there looks great (in a 2005 callander for september.) It was a real bonus to be reading through it on a plane after I had finished DTTAH and was like 'Wow! We have more Dave!'

three fingers... I don't actually know why I find that so amusing... a-hey-nyways...

thinking of getting any more tats? I know you've only just had the bats and whatnot done but, is it just like a spur of the moment, 'hmm I'm bored oh I know I'll go get a tattoo' kind of thing or is it something you think about for a while before you get it done?

I've never seen him smile... I always heard that as 'tell me your secrets'. shows how much I know. *grins*

amitiés,

Soph xx

Emma... you are just precious! Now go read!

Here's a few questions for all of you, sort of adlibbing to Sophie's question for Dave:

What tattoos do you 6767ers have?

Do you have any (more) planned?

QUOTE: "they towed my car while I was standing 10 feet away!!, at my own house---can you picture me running after it? So funny now, so tragic then"

I just had to give everyone the pleasure of that mental image again. Oh Jez, someone needs to come scrape me off the floor. I can't stop laughing. (With you, not at you.... oh, ok... so a little at you.)

My favorite Halloween costume? I went as Marilyn Monroe one year, with this blue sequined 50s bombshell dress and a blonde wig, but I guess my boobs were a little too big, and the wig was a little too curly... so everyone thought I was Dolly Parton. The following year, I recycled the blue dress (I was now in NY and not at Penn State), threw on a long black and grey witch's wig and some devil horns... and what was I? A wet smooch goes to the first person who can sing to me what I was...

Hey everyone,

Thanks, itanja, for those links. Those pics are awesome!

On a very serious note, my heart goes out to Chris and anyone else struggling with addiction. I wish I could give first-hand advice, but I'm afraid (or, I guess, thankful) that I've never really had to deal with that.

I HAVE, however, gone through difficult periods where I knew that I had to make changes that were frightening and challenging, but necessary for my well-being and self-esteem. I've said this before... you really have to keep your "eye on the prize" and think of the end results... the reward awaiting you at the end of the tunnel.

ANYTHING that can inspire and motivate you is critical. Surround yourself with positive forces... people, music, books, pictures, etc. I, for one, am a big fan of quotes/proverbs. Find some that really speak to you, and keep them in your wallet, tape them to your fridge or computer, whatever it takes to remind yourself.

Be aggressive and strong. At the same time, remember that you're human and you will make mistakes. That's OK. You're a work in progress, as we all are. Metaphorically speaking, even Superman was vulnerable to one thing - kryptonite. The key is to stay away from it.

I will conclude with 3 very thought-provoking quotes on courage, courtesy of Forbes magazine:

"Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared." (Eddie Rickenbacker)

"The bravest thing you can do when you are not brave is to profess courage and act accordingly." (Corra Harris)

"Courage is being scared to death -- but saddling up anyway." (John Wayne)

Wishing you courage,
-Denise
