Sexy Art

Rsmpanic_girls_3I'm getting ready to hit New York again for the Camp Freddy show. We have a few surprises but the majority of the show will be the five of us, Perk included. The Panic Channel has just finished up a week of recording, writing and working out material. Things are going great. We are getting ready to do a show in November and then again in December, both shows in L.A. Now that the book thing is done I can resume my interests in the band and playing. I have pretty much cleared my schedule of all things non-music related. We want to get this album out soon and hit the road. I don't know when that will be, but we are very excited about it. By the way, to those who have asked, "Any chance you guys will be coming to (city/country)?" The answer is, I don't know, but yes!

1. My question is, do you guys see this or am I just too biased to see Dave as being flamboyant? I just don't see where this guy is coming from.

Flamboyant? Moi?

2. I don't get how their book releases (Scar Tissue and DTTAH) could possibly be some type of competition between each other. Where do people get that from?

I don't know either. Anthony and I are probably closer than ever and have been very supportive of one another throughout this process. There is for sure no competition. I loved Scar Tissue and even Tommyland for that matter.

I finally got my signed copy of your book on saturday, Dave, and I must say I enjoyed reading it. It's nice to know you're clean and happy. And I mean that.

Oh, and of course I'm looking forward to the album too :p

Have a good one, everyone!

heLLo!

All the best for the recordings! are they as much fun (recording sessions) as the jaming and writing process were? Things often get complicated when you hit the studio after having a brilliant time of gettin and writin together. But looks like you guys are still having fun!

Ylais, yes the forum is down, but its temporary! well I hope...lol

Til my DTTAH arrives, I started a new book last nite...I know I am way late! but It's the (really good so far!) "Da Vinci Code" from Dan Brown. What you guys think of it? and you Dave?

I'm coming back on messenger tonite btw! as the mac version seems to work again!

Hey Freak- I have been told many times over that Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (which is the one before Da Vinci) is better than Da Vinci. I haven't yet read (I am the only one in my book store that hasn't LOL), but just wanted to let you know what I have heard. :) Happy reading!

Hi everyone. I am just bummed out today. I had a crappy weekend. But happy to hear that the music is on its way. I just bought Carmen's striptease workout dvd. I heard it is the best workout, but I just got it for the stripper moves.J/K I needed a new cardio workout.

I have read a few reviews of Dave's book. So far they have been positive. You go boy! All right. I have to get back to work. Take care everyone. Have a nice day.

In the MTV comparison of Dave's, Tommy's, and Anthony's books, the writer says that two of these guys agree that the best sex is with "overweight women". Maybe I won't work so hard to loose some weight! lmao. :P

see this mtv article ffor that info: http://www.mtv.com/bands/b/books/news_feature_041018/

Speaking of books- I just finished reading Simon Winchester's "The Professor and the Madman." It's about the making of the Oxford English Dictionary. It is an unreal book. Has anybody else read that book?

Just wanted to drop in and say "hi" to 'D' and the Fam. Glad to see your art taking off Dave... you have so much positive knowledge to share, and I don't think you'll ever fully understand the positive aspects of what you're doing/ have done, or maybe better yet, you're starting to see, that you do have a niche', and it's being unrestricted and free... I know you're fleshing thing's out for the TPC in L.A., but lay a warm up gig on us in MD-DC! Anyway, peace-love and good vibes to 'D-Man' and the whole family here at 67.

have you guys signed with a label?

I was trying to think of a new "Great Rock & Roll Swindle"

I was thinking if you guys formed your own "indie" label and relaeased the album through a distributor and you know this album is going to sell. Anyway they would "buy" you out of your contract with yourselves and you would also get your signing bonuses"

Is there anyway this would work??

Dude,
Two questions...
Are you looking forward to touring clubs in a van like the "old days?" After all the limos and big arenas, etc.
I guess what I'm saying is have you gotten spoiled with big tours, custom buses, catering, etc? Not that you need to justify. I know you worked your ass off for the level of success you have. Just curious as to how you want to proceed with a new group, new songs, etc.

I've done the club tours in a smelly van with various body odors and being hungry and broke. Living on beer, sardines and ritz crackers. It sucked at the time. But on the other hand, I don't know when I've had more fun.

Next question... I was looking at the pix included with Kettle Whistle. There is a pic of the band sitting on a couch...was that the engineering room at the Hully Gully? I used to crash on that couch all the time.

Rock on.

Freak- DaVinci Code is sweet and so is Angels and demons. Very twisted. anyone read anything interesting lately? Besides Daves and Anthonys (which I have both and finished them WAY TO FAST. I sat at home and read instead of going out. So thank you Dave for saving me $100.00 on Saturday.

Your book and Anthony's book have me real twisted. I am an addict. I am addicted to prescription drugs. Vicodins, Oxy, percs anyting with an opiate in it I am all over it. On the average I am digesting 15-16 vicodins a day. It is at the point now where i get high but not the high I remember. but if i go a day without them I crumble. Pysically and mentally crumble. Withdrawning form pills is hard. Thats what keeps me going the fear of withdraw. After reading your book and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel I am now ready to give up this habit and try and move on. I don't know the first step to take though. i don't have the $$$$ to enter a rehab center like you and Anthony did so many times. I am preparing to sleep it off this coming weekend. I have to work and i can't go through withdraws here. wish me luck.

Sorry for the ramble.

Thank you Dave I really mean that. Thank you
Ron

I have an important question.

How did you feel the music you were doing
in the beginning of your carrer? That thing
about doing your stuff with you have now.
Weren´t you in a paradox in what you liked
to hear and what you liked to play in your
band?
It´s a frequent doubt that i have about
what i am doing now.
Thanx for the attention and peace to every
one !!

Ron, Have you tried Narcotics Anonymous ever? I have known many people who were helped a great deal by NA. I would never recommend going cold turkey though (especially without being in rehab or without helpers), which it sounds like you are planning to do.

Hello Dave and everybody!

For some odd reason reading through the posts today made me remember something somewhat random. Do you know if there is gonna be a "I love the 90's part deux" or some kinda second part? Does anyone know? I loved that show.

And...can't wait for the album and tour ^_^

xoxo agents and "uncle dave" hehe-

how goes it? man, this wknd was crazy in ny. tons of shows as the cmj music fest hit town and not enough sleep. it was really cool though. i re-met andy from the distillers who i interviewed back in the spring, thurston moore of sonic youth, some of the guys from the lot six, the double (who opened for interpol in the uk), regina spektor (a cross btwn ani difranco & tori amos), saw carlos from interpol (who i love), and just other fun assorted people & activities. i saw this great documentary on jeff buckley's life w/ interviews ranging from david fricke of rolling stone to chris cornell & even sebastian bach. i am definitely running out to buy jeff's albums asap.

but i got a 96 on my computer science test-- which i think is probably the highest grade i've received in my entire college career. go me! i am seriously pumped...but i have 2 more midterms tomorrow which i'm not fully prepared for, so i will need some luck, fo' sho.

i could not be more excited for camp freddy on thursday night!!!! can't wait to meet you guys! i am dying to see who the extra special guests are besides lou reed & the roots. i can't deal w/ the suspense for much longer- it's killing me hehe *please have matt kidnap weiland & slash!!*

well, gotta go to a job interview soon- wish me luck!!

QUOTEIt's the (really good so far!) "Da Vinci Code" from Dan Brown. What you guys think of it? and you Dave?QUOTE

Freak!! I loved that book, I liked what an easy read it was, how it seemed to be written like a screenplay. I read somewhere that Brad and Jen bought the rights to the book last year, and were actually thinking of starring in it themselves, but the Bennifer debacle of Gigli soured them on working together, It did make me read the book by picturing them in the characters.

Granted, Angels and Demons is said to be better, I think Deception Point is also a good read, but the Da Vinci Code has just enough fact to make it interesting fiction

Maria, glad to hear you're better!

Oh, one more question for Dave....Didn't I read in one of the articles on Jennette's site that you didn't want to be touring after 30? What happened to change your mind?

jezebel(deep throaty)

Hi Barb-b,

Dave said in an interview that the photos are scrambled & not put in conjunction with the text, so as to keep the people described as anonymous as possible.

Monet Mazur is in many shots in the book, in wigs & different haircolors. Wouldn't it stand to reason that she would be in the book, weren't they dating at the time? Though I did also see a photo in the book of another actress Dave was described as also dating.

I saw Monet's last movie, a drama, she was very good in it. I was surprised she was such a good actress, as I only saw her in a silly teen comedy & briefly in Austin Powers.

I thought it was very cool that Monet said absolutely nothing revealing to Howard Stern about her relationship with Dave when Stern was nagging her to do so. She was interviewed on his show about 3 years ago when she was promoting some movie she had out at the time. Of course, all Stern wanted to do was ask her questions about all her "famous ex-boyfriends" & her sex life. That man is so predictable, relentless & one note.

One interesting tid-bit she did tell Howard was that her dad was the artist who created the famous tongue logo for The Rolling Stones, that was very cool to find out.

Monet seems as if she keeps her private life very private. Which is very refreshing these days, especially when all these fake 'celebrities', such as Britney Spears & Paris Hilton, need to tell the world the minute details of their crazy, empty lives. I guess when you don't have any real talent, that's all you have to offer the world....you create hype & artificial chaos~!! lol

take care,
itanja

Ron -

I'm sending you positive wishes and all the luck in the world with your struggle. I must also second ylais' recommendation that you get some help....there is plenty out there, even if you don't have a rock star's budget, and I sure hate to see you go through that alone.

We may not be able to do much for you here, but just know, there is always someone here who cares and is willing to listen. If you need to talk, if you need to rant, if you're freaking out and just want someone to listen....please know that you have a "home" here.

Good luck and very best wishes.

Ron- Our prayers are with you. You need to be strong, Bro. I just read that you don't have any insurance. Maybe.... you should check out/in at Volunteers of America by you. They are a "Non-Profit" detox facility. I am sure they have one by you somewhere? They are grant sponored, and if you are "on" or "detoxing" they have to take you! People go in and out of there so I am sure they could take you in. Just give them a call. It's a safe facility where you can detox, get help, have other's watch over you. They have support groups etc. and they even provide referrals. You might qualify for a special program to assit you with getting help on the "outside." Check it out. Be safe and be well Ron!

Hey Brett-

I have insurance but if I check myself into a clinic it is on my record of being treated. I don't want that to come back and bite me later. I was in a car accident had back surgery and now 3 years later have a habit. if I go to a clinic i will never get a painkiller the rest of my life even if i truly need it. see the delema. i'd rather rough it out myself than make an event out of it.

thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It truly means alot. It is nice to talk to people that don't judge or are not hurt by my actions. (girlfriend doesn't know) Yet. I plan on telling her when she gets back. She knows I take vicodins but not the quanity or the addiction. My doctor prescribes them to me every month. but i take amonths worth in a week and buy more from where ever i can. sucks if i can bring it back down to where i am supposed to be per the prescripton i would be find but i can't seem to control myself to do that. tahts th problem.

Ron,
Don't worry about your record. You're health comes first, dog. Addiction is a disease. I have it. Dave has it. Millions of people have it. If it was cancer, would you care about what anyone else thought? Fight through the excuses and walk throught the fire. There are a whole lot of poeple here to lean on for advice but you have to take the first step.
Godspeed.

Hey Dave,

I was just wondering, when you first started playing guitar, were there times when you thought that you couldn't do it? I've only been playing for two years, and I don't have a tutor, but I feel as thought i'm getting nowhere. When I listen to you play, it just blows me away knowing how good you are. I wish I could play like you.

Can't wait for the album!

Peace out,

Shane

Posted by: Shane at October 18, 2004 01:54 PM

Ron, You have to be "Selfish" in your recovery. What difference does it make if you have a record or not? Your life is far more valuable than a record. A family member of mine is an x-heroin addict, she has been clean for years, and she refuses to take pain medications because she just can't, she's a recovering addict. Trust me Doctor's work with people in those situations. Have you looked into getting different medications, or working off of them, maybe some sort of physical rehabilitation? Don't be afraid to ask!! Take the first step and get help, you can do it!!!!

Brett

Posted by: Brett at October 18, 2004 01:58 PM

Ron, I think you really should use your insurance. I agree with Brett and Steve. You should not be ashamed about it. Its part of life. Things are different today, you will have more of people's support. You won't be judged in a bad way. I think it would be better for you to be around people who can watch you when you are not fully aware in detox. ya know what I'm sayin? Please let us know what you do. Please don;t think I am yelling or scolding you. I am trying to help. Sorry if I come off as being harsh. Take care.

Hey Dave - Had a quick question for ya...
I'm currently writing a Cover story on Stephen Perkins for Music Connection magazine(was in the studio on Thurs, interviewed you last year) (Run date 11/4), and you keep mentioning how great Perk and Chaney are. I hear ya! Was wondering if you'd be into e-mailing me a quote or 2 about how great Perk is (by Fri) and/or how your experience has been with him over the past 20+ years. How has he made you a better guitarist/how is it different playing with him as opposed to other drummers? I thought it would be cool to have a quote or 2 about him from one of his longtime bandmates, and since you've played with him from day 1, I figured you may have some invaluable input. Just checking to see if you'd be into that. You can e-mail me directly. (e-mail address below)
You f*ckin rock Dave. Viva la Panic Channel.

ron,

the problem with addiction is that you usually have to kick the habit completely. you can't ever take the pills again once you are clean, or you will fall right back into it. ever know an alcoholic who could drink moderately after going thru AA? for those with habit's such as yourself, it's not possible. it's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better, but staying on the track you are will be the worst of all. you obviously are reaching out, otherwise you would not have posted what you did. it's a cry for help and there IS help out there. Brett's links are great. there are hotlines for just about everything these days. and i believe that if you tell your girlfriend, she will provide the support you need, as well as the kick in the ass to get started. please don't hesitate to come here and let it out. we are all going through something and need someone to listen. be strong. do it for yourself. for your health and for you sanity.

Allright that's just weird, another shane on this board...hehehe, dude hit me up I've been playing for 13 years. I might have a few ideas for you.

ron, if you really don't want to go to a rehab maybe a 12 step program might help. or get a really strong trusted friend. to sit at home with you for a few days. someone that will kick your ass. that's what I did. and talk to your girlfriend, and get her support. you'll need it.

funny, I say this while getting shit faced!!!

oh yea, Dave I had the same damn experiance with the B&B circus and the unicorn. a few other of these experiances too. hmmm life is so strange.

Hi Everyone,

Dave -- Have a safe trip to NY. I'm looking forward to seeing the show on Thursday. Oh, and we LOVE the flamboyance!

Ron -- Best of luck to you. Change is always difficult, but know that you're working towards something better. Stay strong and keep your eye on the prize! (Freedom from drugs, better physical and spiritual health, etc.)

Ellen -- Good luck on your interview! I just had one today myself, so I know how you feel. You'll do just fine, and if you don't get the job, know that it's their loss and someone else's gain.

Take care,
-Denise

I read DTTAH This Saturday night and couldn't put it down. I had to finish it even though I was sick as a dog. I loved it. So much to say about but I’ll refrain.

Ron, …. Don’t give up

ya see, Dave knows what I'm talkin' about! he's my dog!
mouse has your back, D.

mmreeeow.. some pretty hot art going on there!

Ron- I am the ex girlfriend and now very good friend of someone who was hooked on heroin. Please, for the sake of your relationship, be upfront with her and let her know. She will not think any less of you. There is no better support you can get than from her. Screw the pills. And if god forbid you should need it for something in the future, there are plenty of pain relievers that aren't narcotic/opiate analgesics out there that can be used. As long as you get a good doctor and let them know your complete medical and drug history, you should be fine.
Take care of yourself.
We all have faith in you.

peace, love, happiness and all that mushy stuff.

How excited am I?!

I'm watching Nash Bridges on USA; and, guest starring tonight are both Tommy Chong and Michael Phillip Thomas. OH! Meatloaf's in this one too!

nuh-uh-uh. I'm NOT a dork.

we want some drummers and bassists who really know there shit and arnt affraid to show off to jam and record with us in london based rehersal rooms over the month of november , days will be monday-thursdays from around 7,, i am currently listning to alot of praxis, buckethead, john frusciante, bootsy collins, funkadelic, frank zappa (these are just some of my favourate bands, doesnt mean we have to sound like clones of them)

Posted by: John (London NW10) at October 19, 2004 01:46 AM

good luck john with your search for a drummer and a bassist!

Posted by: Emma at October 19, 2004 02:44 AM

thank you emma, drummers and bassists (who actually want to play bass and not guitar) are sooooooo hard to come by in this area of london...everyone wants to be a dj or rapper/mc

Posted by: john at October 19, 2004 02:50 AM

Hey Dave,
when are you gonna do shows in England? and will you be releasing another solo album? your English fans are eagerly waiting for you to come to England :)

Posted by: Laura at October 19, 2004 02:59 AM

I notice you keep bigging the rhythm section (justifiably) - hoping things are still working out good with the singer?

(Not that you'd ever fall out with a lead singer, of course...)

Posted by: edlong at October 19, 2004 05:01 AM

hey friends-

in the new entertainment weekly, the anthony, tommy & dave books are reviewed. anthony's got a "C", tommy's a "B-" and dave's a "b". not too shabby ;)

have a good day & i look fwd to re-meeting some of you & meeting others on thursday!

Posted by: Ellen at October 19, 2004 05:40 AM

thanks brett & denise for the interview well-wishes! i'm unsure if i want to take it, because it's an unpaid internship & god knows, i have done too many of those. but it would be a good way to meet people & make contacts. i dunno, what do you guys think? is anyone else sick of busting your ass to not get paid at all? it is bullsh*t. i love how entertainment companies- worth millions and in some cases billions- are too cheap to pay their hard workers & pull that 'for college credit' b.s. i'm sorry but if you work, you get paid. my dad started off on wall street making a measly $10,000/year but at least he got paid!!

Posted by: Ellen at October 19, 2004 05:43 AM

it does suck indeed, but i would do it though and just give it what you can but not to much, im temping at some adult education place at the moment as i cant even get an "internship" (as you americans call it) with any record lable or tv station, my 3 years at uni seem wasted...its not what you know its who you know in the media world

Posted by: john at October 19, 2004 06:04 AM

QUOTEcollege credit' b.s. i'm sorry but if you work, you get paid. my dad started off on wall street making a measly $10,000/year but at least he got paid!!

Hi Ellen,
Let me offer the flip side of that.My university charges 450 a unit, one course can be up to 1500 with books. Add to that equation three hours twice a week in class, along with 12-18 hours a week working on assignments, with NO guarantee of job placement. You are getting hands-on experiential learning, making valuable connections, and are almost certain to be hired once internship is over. Not the best tradeoff, but not a bad one.
I spent 6 months student teaching for no pay, I almost lost my house AND my car, and 5 years later, I see no end in sight in the repayment of my student loans,
BUT, I got hired by the site I was student teaching at, and am still here today. Good thing, though, I didn't pick this job for the money!!!
Hang in there, kiddo..

I am a little afraid to post because I don't want to intrude but I just read Dave's book and I was completely moved. It is such a great story and I'm so completely grateful to have been able to read it. I've also been reading the threads and I think you are all such sweet, interesting, and nice people. Anyway, it's just nice to know there are great people and happy endings out there.

Best wishes to you all,

Melissa

heLLo,

To Caffeinated Sue:

Yes CF will be playing "Venus in furs" & "Blue Mask" with L.Reed, that's what Billy said on CFR Show 2 weeks ago. Dave will certainly confirm that anytime soon.

Q: Btw Dave, what was billy talking about what happened with L.Reed/Record company earlier? You were supposed to work with him from what I know, but billy said you owed him apologies? Why?

When are we starting the online album btw?? No one seems to start anything again. I know Kyle has a ballad to propose soon here, so we can start. Don't let the idea fade away like the 1st one nearly did...

Oh my gosh!! Thank you so much!! I've been a fan of Dave and his projects for a long time. I have never really been an internet person though, so coming here is a new experience for me. After reading the book, I have a new found respect for Dave. It made him real, more then just a rock icon. After finding this site(I can't believe it's actually Dave'sown site :)) and reading all the posts, it was a bonus to see that there are such nice, down to earth fans of his. You all really seem like a family! Anyway, it's just a comforting feeling to know that people are sweet and caring but also share the same interests. I'm from Chicago. Is everyone one else from all over or just primarily L.A.?

Thanks for reading!
