oh my god, I'm actually one of the first people, I feel so special now.

Dave, you have no idea how much your book means to me. It is exquisite in so many ways. I'd just like to thank you.

Hi 6767ers, this is my first post, and though i'm a long running more passive member of the 6767 site I hope you still appreciate what i'm bringing to the potluck.

i went to book soup today on sunset where dave is doing his reading on thursday the 14th, and just wanted all of you to know that it's a ticketed affair (i don't know if it will be open if they have leftover tix.) they're really nice there and they've almost sold out of the book which is a really great thing, congratulations dave! but i'm sure that if you just ask nicely for a ticket before the actual day, they'll pass one along. the deal is that your ticket has a number and you show up right before seven and take that number in line. less chatotic but not as fandemonious. well that's enough from a passive rambler.

(though it's ussually meant politically)

thanks, mordecai
but now I don't know what to do

anyword on oct. 12 signing?

Posted by: wendybird at October 7, 2004 09:23 PM

ok, mordecai, Did ANYONE read my post on Thursday

I don't know who YOU talked to, but the girl I talked to at booksoup said this,
you can order the book over the phone, pay with credit card, they give you ticket number, I am ticket number 9, I am going on thursday, I pick up book and ticket and get book signed.
as far as october 12th, as of 5 this evening, the word was, you didn't have to buy book at Sam Goody, but you did need a wristband, they didn't have definitive word on when they would hand bands out, Amber said 7 am, I told her DAVE said that was insane, she said, I know, but LA is where it's AT...(I hate repeating myself)
am i typing in a voice that only dogs can hear
Anyone that has questions that doesn't want to see me repeating myself, can email me, I am more than happy to share any and all info,
jezebel(I won't be IGNORED...name that movie)
DAVE----What about Camp Freddy radio?

Posted by: jezebel at October 7, 2004 09:30 PM

I did read your post jezzi but I'm totally confused right now. It doesn't take much. I guess I can go there at 7:00 a.m. get a wrist band then go to work then come back at 6. I don't know, just typing it drained me.

I think I'm going to go to Sam's tomorrow, personally talk to them, then if it doesn't work out drive to soup.. and just go there. It seems so much easier.

Posted by: wendybird at October 7, 2004 09:36 PM

I second everything that Giovanna's already said, except for the Celebrity Poker comment. (Mine was about the coffee)

Question: Is there any way to send comments about the book to Neil?

The reason I ask is that, Neil asked what I thought of the book.

Thanks to a combination of so many different thoughts, questions, and emotions, (and a brain-to-mouth filter on the fritz) I came off sounding like this was the first book I've ever read in my life. Now that I'm finally able to string words together coherently, I'd like to answer his question in the manner that it should have been.

Thanks again for coming to Jersey; and, as corny as it sounds, thanks for sharing.

Hey Dave and Family!

I've been quiet lately, as I'm still getting settled into my new place and looking for a job.

Dave... Just wanted to tell you that a very dear friend of mine was at the signing in NJ tonight... She was the third in line, I think, and had read a good bit of the book waiting for things to start. Anyway... just wanted to let you know that you made her year, bro! She's on cloud nine right now and I don't think she'll be coming down any time soon. LOL So I just wanted to pass along her happiness and say thank you for being such a cool person. You ROCK, Dave!

Hope everyone's doin' well!

Much love and respect to Dave and the Family! :D

Peace,

That's not so dorky :) I'd probably manage to say something more lame or just freeze on the spot! Night everyone.

I can't wait to see you on Conan tomorrow night.
He's my favorite late night show host, he's just so awesome.
I saw Anthony Kiedis on it from Wednesday and I just thought it was great since I'm such a huge fan of the Peppers AND Conan so it was like heaven for me and now YOU'RE gonna be on it the same week so that's just like doubling the pleasure with doulbe-mint gum.
Thanks man.

Tonight was such a great time! Did any of you have the taped X on your shirt or was I the only one? I looked around but didn't see any others and I was hoping to get to meet some of you. When I got to the table I just sort of, went blank and didn't know what to say. I was just so excited that I guess I got a little nervous. It was also nice to get to hang with some of the old school Unicorns. It felt just like old times.

Spreading the love,
Deena

Tim, you so didn't have to do that; but, thank you for doing it.

I've got so much mad love for you; and, that *points to your comment* is what just made my year.

Much love, bear hugs, and big wet sloppy tongue kisses,

Hi jezebel,

(I won't be IGNORED...name that movie)

FATAL ATTRACTION?? What do I win??

Thanks so much for your kind words & always interesting emails!

Thanks to everyone else too for your well wishes & emails. I have part two of my procedure on Monday. UGH!

If I may add somethng about the signing....yes, "LA IS where it's at"....tho I'm from NYC...lol.....
As far as the large amount of Dave fans out there, the signing will most definitely have way over 100 people there!

California IS, after all, Daves home state, I would think the turn-out there will be enormous!

Have a GREAT time jezzi~~!!!

Gotta keep this short & sweet.... ;)

take care,

Hey everyone:)
Not much to say, as usual. I'm kind of a "lurker" around here. But I just wanted to say thanks for always brightening my nights. Things have been tough lately, and I've been pretty "down" so it's always nice to have this the last place I visit before I lay my head down for the night.
Much <3 to you all for being who you are, and to Dave of course.
By the way Dave, my wife sends her best back at you:)

Thanks for the links to the pictures - wish I could have been there. I know I am repeating myself, but what a beautiful face!

This is a great way to start the work day. First, I hear Dave on CBS radio this morning - they are promoting CPS4. And then, here at work, during the today show, they played a Conan commercial - and there was DAVE!

I don't think seeing Barry Manilow in concert tonight will be nearly as thrilling!

Hey everyone!

I'm a long-time lurker and first-time poster (I've been lurking since Baby-Uni days) and I just wanted to say that it's been great to read about everybody's experiences at the signings.. Being in and from Finland (that's the Finland that's a country in Scandinavia, NOT the small town in Minnesota), it's safe to say that we won't be seeing one near me.

This is why the 6767 community is great. I almost feel like I've been to a signing myself, thanks to the sharing and relating that goes on here. So, people, please don't give in to the competitive vibe... This community should be proud that it isn't running on the all-too-common fuel of provocation and web rage ;)

My love to one and all here,
Dave, thank you for giving this to your fans,
You rock

Annie, thanks so much for the pictures. As usual, Dave is beautiful! Love the third pic (going accross) on the first link. Dave, wish I were closer to have attended one of the book signings! But in the event you decide that Baton Rouge LA is THE hippest place on earth, I'll be first in line :)

I read through the last few days posts and saw what Dave referred to as a 'drag'. Hope that everything is okay now! This is really just a great environment and I believe Dave when he says he enjoys it; maybe we can all agree to discuss our differences via email rather than the board in the future? Just to avoid passing on the negative vibe. Share opinions but if it get's testy, "take it outside". what do you think?

Jezzi, I hope things have improved for you with your paper. Hang in there girl. Perseverance and Perspective. Have the day YOU want to have - push through!

To everyone else I usually nod a silent hello to when I lurk, have a wonderful day. To all of you accross the sea, hang tight, the book will get there soon!

Sorry for the cheese fest, I'm just in a good mood :)

Congrat's on the book "D" i love it...too bad you didn't make it down to D.C. this time, but hopefully you'll be around with the TPC project at some point. I agree, all negativity, especially on this board, where we're all supposed to be on the same team, is a drag. My only advice is to clean it up is, don't let people bait you into a fight or a "non-adult" argument... most of Dave's fan's (i assumed) were older and more mature, than to fight amongst ourselves...hopefully I'm right, and everyone will chill...but I agree with D, that's it's totally uncool. like Trent said "we're in this together now"...so let's act like it... it's bad enough Dave's art doesn't seem to get the recognition it deserves, so here's a whole group of us that DO appreciate it...the last thing we should be doing is fighting... just my 7 cents... love and peace to all 67ers!

Dave!

Sorry I haven't posted forever. I have a couple of quick things to say, as I'm not feeling well, but I'm determined to post :-)

1. As far as negative comments go guys, the best thing to do is just to ignore them. If you respond in *any* way, the instigator has won your attention and will continue to pollute our minds. Just scroll down...

2. Dave, I'm wondering what it is you're holding at the desk in that picture there...is that a gun?! It's kind of a dark picture...hard to tell.

See you on TV!

Adrock~Were you around to see the Angelyne chapter on the old 6767? I swear that when I went to LA last year, I thought I saw her in a pink car driving up next to ours, haha. I remembered her off Dave's site, that's the only place I've ever heard of her. Now it prolly wasn't her, though, but still. The blonde 65-year-old in question looked pretty horrible either way, haha :D

Can't wait to read the book...

HI NEIL & RISS- pleasure to meet you both :)

Hi 6767-

How are ya? I haven't been able to get on the site in a couple days, but things have been going well. I was able to attend both the NYC and Ridgewood, NJ signings.

It was so nice to meet 6767 people in "real life" haha I am very pleased to have finished the book and have gotten to meet Dave again, and meet Neil and Riss for the first time. What a great crew of people! Dave really does surround himself with positive people and it is so nice to feel a part of a community on this site.

It was also fun to have Dave & the gang come to Ridgewood, NJ. I grew up about 10 minutes away and seriously, Ridgewood was THE place back in the day haha In junior high, on the weekends before we were old enough to go into the city (NYC) on our own, we would be all bad ass & take the train 5 minutes away and sneakily smoke our ciggarettes in 'downtown Ridgewood'. Oh, yeah. We. were. bad. ass. LOL Needless to say, it was really cool to have such a fun, meaningful event in my own neck of the woods.

Below, I've posted my review of the book, as seen on amazon.com. I finished it in one sitting & stayed up all nite!

Posted by: Ellen at October 8, 2004 08:18 AM

As a long time Dave Navarro devotee, I have been familiar with his story for quite some time and I have been looking forward to the release of his book-- and he did not disappoint. It was fascinating and at times horrifying to read about the highs and lows of drug addiction. His writings and thoughts are humorous, intelligent, thought-provoking and relatable.

I especially liked reading his theories on how the world is and how people are from depressed and upbeat perspectives through his course of conquering demons and opening himself up to life's gifts, such as becoming healthy and allowing himself to love and grow with his wife.

We all tend to formulate conflicting opinions about the world and our peers when we are down vs. when we are doing well. We are astonished by the good that can be found and how we can prosper when we give ourselves honest looks and open ourselves up to life. I was glad to read Dave's thoughts because I could certainly relate to viewing the world with negativity and positivity. When you look at the bigger picture, there is a world of a difference when you starting being realistic with yourself and open yourself and others to your love. Reading about the painful progression towards self-acceptance is wonderful and touching--- particularly coming from someone whom I respect a great deal for his talent and art.

Furthermore, I appreciate Neil Strauss's honesty. He was respectful of documenting Dave's life and providing journalistic insight not seen in most auto/biographical accounts. He didn't sugarcoat anything but he also showed a tremendous amount of respect for his subject. He also provided behavioral observations which add additional perspective to understand the severity of Dave's actions--- and inform the reader of his struggles as a documentarian not knowing the best way to help his troubled subject.

I commend both Dave and Neil for a job well done. I would recommend this book for everybody. While some of the subject matter is unpleasant, it provides a true depiction of life's complications and beauty.

Thank you Dave, for being courageous enough to share your life and your story.

Good morning, family,
albeit dysfunctional one (props to Pekka).

Can I ask the East Coast peeps a seemingly obvious question?

Did Dave sign books personally? I know, don't correct me, I don't mean was he actually there, or if he had a stamp. Did he sign your book, To Emily, or To Mike?

I remember waiting in line for Jay Leno to sign his children's book, and there was a VERY scary lady saying NO PERSONAL SIGNINGS!!!!

But I wanted him to sign it for a birthday present, so when I got to him, I asked him, and he did, and stopped to make sure he spelled her name right, and drew a little pic, and says to his assistant, "Hey, give the girl a comb, please." (You'd have to read the book to understand significance of the poem)

I fell in love with Jay, then and there. Plus, he has the best pair of blue eyes I have ever seen on a man.
ok, there was a question in there, too much Pepsi this morning

"What do you do with little Daisy when you are out of town?"

And, along that same line....does she get ticked off at you if you leave her behind??? My little dog always lets me know that she is not pleased whenever she can't go on trips with us...too cute! LOL

Anyway...hope you all have a fantastic Friday...Annie and Itanja...thanks for the great pics!

Emily/bloni - I couldn't agree more with your post.

Anne - Thanks so much for those links. As Emily said, they bring back wonderful memories of a very rewarding, meaningful evening.

Just a weird, personal sidenote about NYC. There must be some kind of energy that's drawing me to downtown Manhattan this month. After not having gone there in many, many months, I now have/had 3 reasons to go this month. The book signing, a bachelorette party tomorrow night, and, of course, the Irving Plaza show on the 21st.

I just found that strange, but wonderful!

Oops... I meant "blondi".

I just came across your blog for the first time and am looking forward to reading it more. Anyway, I was at the signing at Bookends and I must say it was an honor to meet you. I'm the one who gave you the picture in the frame. I lucked out when I got front row seats to that show. :) Thanks for the music. You are an inspiration.

This cartoon made me think of Carmen and what Dave was saying about her blasting hip-hop in her car. ;)

good morning all,

thanks annie! seeing those pics makes me even more excited for tuesday (if that's possible!)

just a note about flu shots - my bio teacher was telling us yesterday that they vaccine they make is really just a guess as to what the virus will have mutated to by this time. they take the virus from last season, and basically, estimate what it would be this year. so some people get the shot and still get the flu because it's mutated, so the vaccine is worthless! just interesting info, i thought!

can't wait till dave is back.

Mordecai was Right! I was not so right!

Yes, when you call Booksoup and order book, they assign you a ticket number ,that ticket number is your place in line, At 9:00 this morning, I became number 32, they sold 25 books JUST for signing between 6 pm and closing last night. Also, if you can't make it to signing, simply call them, their number is on website, or email me, and they will let you order signed copy.
That's called dealing with professionals...Thanks to JOSH (get the Names, always get the names!!)

I started reading the book last night, and so far I think it is great. I'm looking forward to finishing it. Unfortionately I have midterms next week, so I might not get to finish it for awhile. Either that, or my midterms will suffer. :)

To the person asking what section it was in, Barnes & Noble had it in the entertainment/music section.

This is from the NY Daily News, Dave was interviewed at Wednesday's book release party.

ENJOY~!

NY DAILY NEWS....LLOYD GROVE

Now that Dave Navarro has been a rock star, a recovering heroin addict, a husband of ex-"Baywatch" babe Carmen Electra and the co-author of a tell-all memoir, what's the one thing he'd still like to do?

"Fly into outer space," the former guitarist for Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers told Lowdown at Wednesday's book party for "Don't Try This at Home," his tell-all.

"If they get those new spaceships going, I'll be first in line to spend $200,000 to take a ride."

Isn't the price of space travel for civilians more in the $20 million range?
"No, no, no," Navarro chided. "Have you been watching the news? There's a new spacecraft that's being made that will take civilians into space. What is it called, Space One?

"You should turn on the news every once in a while, it'd be interesting for you. I think a ticket is gonna be like two, two-hundred-fifty grand. I would definitely do that."

If he ever achieves liftoff, maybe it will be to escape the problems of the pop music industry.
"What's happened is that the industry has become wimpy," Navarro said. "What I mean is that there's lots of bands out that are hard rockin' and edgy and really cool - but because the industry doesn't touch them, doesn't put money behind them, MTV's not interested, hit radio's not interested, and they fall by
the wayside."

Posted by: bluelizard at October 8, 2004 03:27 PM

Dave,
I'm curious... who were the people who made up your "entourage" in NJ. I thought they were pretty cool, but had no idea who they were.

I don't know they said maybe 10. Something about a mix up. I'm confused.

Dave-so glad the book finally came out. I went to Barnes and Noble. They did not have it out yet. I told them you would not appreciate this slackness! ;O) Anyway, they put them out for me and I was so excited to take your book home. It is really interesting and thought provoking. It's so nice to see that it is not another self absorbed book of celebrity glamour shots (not even close!) I'm so glad you are well now and happy. I wish I was closer to a book signing. Unfortunately, Raleigh, NC is not as happening as NYC and Los Angeles. Keep rockin'- Kat (from Roku)
