Christopher Reeve struck me as an incredibly strong and intense man; he did a lot for modern science and calling to mind social issues that may never have reached the mainstream if not for his insistance.
Rest in Peace Superman.
Dave, happy days for you, okay?

Good morning Dave! Glad you made it home safely. I've asked this question before, but you were out of town. How much does it cost to book Camp Freddy for a private gig?
peace, love

Hi Everyone
Superman was one of the first films i saw at the movies as a child(the other one was Star Wars) and one of the fondest memories i have,i believed a man could fly as much as i believed that galaxy far far away really existed.I remember tying a towel around my neck and running around with my arms out in front of me as if i were flying real fast,I stll love the film as much today.
Chris Reeves amazingly refused to let his injuries beat him,he gave himself to experimental treatments not only to heal himself, but to progress the research into spinal and nerve damage in the hope others would benifit from the results.Amazing man.
I cannot help but feel comforted that he has been released from the bonds of his disability.
My Uncle is wheel chair bound and at times it is as much of a strain on my Aunt and my cousins as it is for him.
Thank you Chris for the wonder i felt as a kid watching you on the screen.
Thank you Chris and Dave for showing that the mind is strong enough to overcome anything and being able to turn negatives into positives

after my brother had his accident that left him paraplegic we have always looked at Christopher Reeves as an insperation of hope. he was a very strong man, and now he's flyin in heven with the angles.

Shit, i did'nt even know till i checked in on here.

oh, and I was bored in class today, so I drew you a unicorn type thing. it's pretty poor considering I spent the first eight or so years of my life constantly surrounded by horses, but... anyway.

Good morning everyone. Dave glad to have ya home safe.
And did you know you were a blog on VH1's Best week ever? Cause you made that comment on Howard's show about you and Carmen Reguarding "watersports". Yeah Baby! I laughed my a** off. I enjoyed that one. That's hot!
I never though Superman would die. I was shocked today when I heard. My prayers go out to his family.
Ok, take care everyone. Peace & love to all.

Such sad news... I just heard about it like 5 mins. before coming here. Christopher Reeves was not only a great actor, but a strong human being.
Dave- I am watching your wife on Regis and Kelly right now :) I can't stand the show, but wanted to see Carmen.
How is the family this morning? I am enjoying my last day off.... have to go back to the grind tomorrow morning.

i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a copy of a transcript or the actual show for conan and for howard stern...i had to miss those two shows...and i was just wondering if anyone could at least describe what was discussed on them.
i would really appreciate it...thank you all so much...and it's a shame about christopher reeve...may he rest in peace.
cori...may your grandmother come out of this well and in good health...my best wishes are with you.

Ended up being a Superman
Thanks for it all, SuperReeve!

Emily-
I tried both websites, and unfortunately neither had anything related to past episodes except conan. Although Conan's website only has them up to July. So I am figuring he may have it up there at sometime, but who knows when. As for Howard, you may have to wait till it reairs on E. I will keep looking for you though.

The world has been losing a lot of inspirational and influential figures lately. It's a sad time.

Posted by: ylais at October 11, 2004 10:12 AM
wow, I forgot about that particular comic book, I still have that some where around, bought that when I was around 10 or something like that.....While it is truly unfortunate that he has passed away I'm sure he wouldn't want us to mourn-he'd want to keep the hope and push alive for eymbro stem cell research. I hope that this doesn't dissolve or weaken the push for embryonic stem cell research, something that Christopher fought tremoundously hard for. He may be gone but his dream isn't and has yet to be realized-
Thank you and RIP C.R

hey all
there s something i don't get about the elections over there. lots of people say they're gonna vote anything but bush, so many people are against bush, don't like him, think he made the wrong choices etc. i've seen protestmarches like the ones in New York a little while ago.
but why are the elections still so close?
after every debate someone else leads, sometimes bush and sometimes kerry. are there so many people voting bush because of their principls, because they've always voted for the republicans or other reasons
i'm just wondering, any thoughts?
sleep tight, see you all tomorrow

Emma, Hey, how are those college searches working out for you, if you ever want to come out and take a tour, I will put you up!
Yes, isn't that funny that for all the liberal media coverage of the election process, the polls show them still so close. I have said it before, and I will say it again, 98 percent of all media is owned by a handful of companies, and probably most of those companies are liberal minded, so press favorable to the 'democratic process' will be showcased more. Why is the big news of the day Dubya's back bulge, or his facial expressions? Has the Sudan genocide suddenly stopped? I think that people are more divided on this election, no matter what the media slant. I also think that the undecideds and I don't care's will make or break the election, which is why Bush and Kerry are spending the majority of the next couple weeks courting them. Of course, that's my own opinion. I am not pro-Bush, nor am I necessarily pro-Kerry, no matter who wins, I just hope they don't have mindless assholes giving them policy advice...
Choose or Lose? It seems each choice brings with it a loss. Abby made the most eloquent argument against the two party system, in one of her responses to Steve Isaac's post about the debate, head on around the corner and check that out, and let me know what you think?

Dave & DN Family,
I never got into comics when I was a kid. But the only three comics that I do own are:
Ghost Rider #1
Superman dies (still in the black plastic bag)
Superman comes back alive (still in the white plastic bag)
Everyone have a great night.
Dave- Do you own or used to own any comics?

Man, it's crazy all the losses this year.. John Ritter (anyone watch Three's company?? loved that show!), Rodney Dangerfield, Joey Ramone, now Christopher Reeve...
Anyone know if Dave is going to be on loveline tonight or tomorrow night? He's on Kevin & Bean tomorrow morning. I listen to that show every morning.
I'm quite excited today as my sister works for a staffing agency and she found a crazy job for me that pays a whole lot more than i'm currently making... i'm going to submit my resume and go on an interview. Got my fingers crossed! If I get that job I'll be able to get a car and finish school and everything!

yeah, i'm one of those "anyone but bush" people. this weekend, i was talking to my mom and she told me that she doesn't really care for bush, though she's a republican, but will vote for him just because he's not kerry. it's seems like, for a long time, it's been the lesser of two evils.
glad you're home Dave.

Dave and Family:
I work in stem cell research and I know there is NO WAY to advance this life-saving, literally world-changing technology with limits by the fed govt. The existing lines that the govt touts supporting are exhausted, mapped, interbred and contaminated. Most of us probably don't think the govt would dare legislate something they don't even fund, but with embryonic stem cell research that's exactly what this administration has done and would continue to do. Everyone please think about that and vote to save lives.
*steps off the soapbox* Ok, now to the good stuff: Dave, since you're experimenting with your hair, how about re-doing the blond highlights? Saw them in some old pics, and they give you a great look.

I'm way late posting here, but wanted to say "hey".
I missed the Panic Channel show cause I was in Vegas (doh!).
But I spent a week in LA/Hollywood (last week) and flew home the day the DTTAH book came out. Couldn't get the damned thing at Barnes & Noble, but got one from Borders in Hollywood with about an hour to spare before I had to board the plane back home to Australia.
It was a great (dark, vulnerable, destructive) read for my long plane ride home.
It's great it finally came out, I honestly didn't think it ever would. It did fire-up my interest again to see the documentary/movie you made during that same time. I used to love finding clips of it on the old 6767/Spread site.
I'm dissapointed I TPC show when I was over there, I can only hope you guys will make a trip down to Australia in the not-too-distant future (think Big Day Out), 'cause I don't think I can 'ford another trip to the USA for a few years.
Thanx for sharing Dave,
Rich

Hearing Dave on the radio this morning WAS the highpoint of my day after all because, on my way to work was when I heard about Christopher Reeves. The day's just kinda sucked after that.
Just like so many who've already posted, I remember watching "Superman" as a kid. While I didn't run around with a towel or a sheet tied around my neck like a cape, he became one of my first (and best) models of what it means to be a "good man".
Like many young girls who dream of their proverbial knight in shining armor, while mine didn't have to be faster than a speeding bullet or leap any buildings; but, Christopher Reeves showed me that I wanted mine to be courageous, loyal, honest, strong ... and so many other things that he personified both on-screen and off.
When I found out he was also from NJ, oh! I was so proud. I know it's a tad morose; but, I'm feeling like the world just got a little bit darker.
Much love, (sorry so long)

Hi Fam.
I’m sorry to post this here, I never used e-bay and I figured somebody here would be interested. Anywho,d oes anyone still need one Camp Freddy ticket for Irving plaza? Due to unforeseen circumstances (big gambling loss cough.. cough) I’m going to have to cancel/postpone my trip to New York :( Unless a miracle happens which I highly doubt. Anyhow, I had already purchased my ticket and I’m willing to sell it for less. With the ticketmaster charges the total came out to 51.95. I want 40 and I’ll pay for shipping cost. So you are saving 11.95. At this point I’m just trying to get some of my money back. My airfare was nonrefundable :( If you are interested e-mail me at wgonzalez@riohondo.edu
I really wish I didn’t have to type this. I’m such an addicted asshole.

I know Dave has said he is not into politics, but here is a sad oberservation I've made. When I talk to people about who they are voting for it it's always the same. If they are voting for Kerry it's because they hate Bush and when asked why they list off a dozen reasons. When they say they are voting for Bush its because they don't like Kerry. But when asked why they always say "I don't know I just don't like him". Is it just me or is that pathetic. Sorry Dave, I'll try not to bring it up again.
Posted by: Shane at October 11, 2004 07:03 PM
I appreciate the offer Aimee but it’s not in the stars. It’s not a cancellation it’s only a minor postponement. I think I can still get credit for my airfare but no refund so I’ll just use it some other time (not everything is lost). New York will still be there. Right now I’m just really disappointed in myself. I should have known better. There were signs everywhere not to go but my grandmother was in town and this was the only time I hade to take her gambling or so I told myself. (I get my addiction from her). Once I got there I lost all rationality. Anyhow shit happens, especially if you sit in the toilet and make it happen. Like I mentioned earlier things could always be a lot worse.
The whole ride there I thought, well if I just win 300 that will help me get… if I make it to 1,000 I can buy the camera I really want, if I make 2,000 I can pay off some loans, if I make 3,000 I can buy a computer….then after all the daydreaming I came to earth and said well I only really need 300. The sad thing is that within minutes I had won the 300. I should’ve called it quits but no I got greedy and it started to get ugly fast. It was a combination of bad luck, a horrible player next to me and not sticking to the plan. I ended up loosing the 300 plus everything I had and I told myself only to take 200. For a moment my hearth sunk and I was wishing that it was only a bad dream, since it all happened so fast. I should have left the ATM at home were it belongs. Rrrr. Nothing I can do now. Again things could always be worse and it's only money.
On a bright note it’s been a good day with the exception of Mr. Reeves.

Yea Mike on the commercial for MTV's new season of Battles of the Sexes they played Stop too, I thought that exposure was cool...hey Dave, after reading the book maybe you can help me and if this makes you feel i dunno uncomfortable (like you said that everyone goes to you with their problems and you didn't like it) it's cool, you don't have to answer. I had my own mother who believes she's a clairvoient tell me that two people in our family were going to die. So far an uncle who I didn't get to know too much, died on a fishing trip when he fell overboard and drowned. Lately I've had close car accident calls I'm scared to go driving, walking, or do regular things that put me out in a predicament because i dunno, in the back of my mind I think I could be that next person (and my mother made some predictions which have turned out to be right)...well I remember you went through the same situation, if not worse, if you could please tell me how you finally got over that because even if you wrote it in the book, I'm still not clear how to squash it

Trully a real superman, and an inspiration to all those with spinal cord injuries. He will be missed
Posted by: sam at October 11, 2004 09:58 PM
Hi All,
I was quite shocked to hear about Christopher Reeve.
He remained a positive & determined person even after his devastating accident.
It had to be incredibly frustrating not to mention depressing, for such a vital & active person to suddenly find himself in the position he was in, yet he worked assiduously as an activist for research to help others. He also continued to remain active as an actor & director.
Remaining active & focused is the great lesson we can learn from people like him.
I always look to people like Mr. Reeves & Dave for inspiration, especially when I get bummed out over the smallest things going wrong in my life.
R.I.P., Superman and thanks again Dave for helping so many by writing your book.

Hey All,
Christopher Reeve what a guy!
He showed the world what the human spirit is capable of, a true superhero, he never gave up on his cause.
Respect & RIP.
Hector, I hope you don't mind me commenting, if you look at it like someday we all will die, it is inevitable and that being said we must live life to the full while we are here, make each moment count dude try not to worry about things that you have no control over like your destiny.
Dave, if you get to meet a lady called Sue who works at the Booksoup bookshop, please tell her from me that she is a total star! She was so lovely and helpful when I called for a signed copy :)
Enjoy your day everyone!

Its a shame to see Mr.Reeves go, because he was such a force for stem cell research which is a key issue in the upcoming election...
We have something in this country called a seperation between church and state. That seperation was put in place to protect the state from being influenced by the church not the other way round. Why doesn't the seperation actually exist? People vote for Bush because they attend church regularly (80% of the country), not because he is a good President...

Hey Dave.
The first time I heard of you was when I saw your vidoe for Rexall on Vh1. It was awesome, and I learned everything I could about you. I just picked up a copy of your book and it rocks! Im sure you probably hear this stuff all the time but I feel like I can relate to alot of what you talk about in it. The Chili Peppers break-up for example. I just got booted out of my band in the exact same way as you. (secret meeting and all that) It made me feel alot better to know that you had pretty much the same feelings about it that i did; except that I was really into what we were doing.
But anyway, using the cover of that comic is the perfect way to remember Christopher Reeve, I dont think anyone could do better than that. You're awesome Dave, keep it up.

Oh yeah, mad props to Rodney Dangerfield while we're at it.

80% of this country attends church regularly? hmmmm

hey jezebel, i still don't know what to do. i'm not sure i want to go to a university in the US, maybe i'm gonna study english here (perhaps in Leiden, who knows)..arrg, it's so hard!! i will just think about it all for a while and i'll let you know what my thoughts are, or if i need any help, advice, information or even a tour....who knows
i've read abby s response to Steve Isaac's post about the debate, and i agree on the only-two-choices-thing (if i read it correctly). here in holland we have some bigger political parties, some smaller ones, and some really small ones. some are socialistic, others are liberal, others have a religion base. some parties have a little bit of all. there's planty of choice. when you vote, you don't vote on one person, but on the party. some elections are to vote on one person, but those are small elections, for a certain possition, im sure you have those there as well.
when you don't like bush or the republicans, you vote for the other party. overhere if you don't like the ideas of one party, you can vote on one of the others, there's still plenty of choice. ofcause there are lots of errors in our system, but it sure is completly different then yours.
okay, lovely day everyone
love, emma

Christopher Reeve was a great actor as well as an activist. 52 is way to young for a person like him to die. It's sad that for the last 9 years of his life he was confined to a wheelchair, but he was a great source of inspiration for many people.
RIP

That's so sad for Christopher Reeve. He left this world too early...
R.I.P Superman.
Take care Dave.

People vote for Bush because they attend church regularly (80% of the country), not because he is a good President...

I offer for your consideration this
http://www.mirrorofjustice.com/mirrorofjustice/2004/09/on_catholic_vot.html
Statistics, in my personal opinion, are beautiful, because they can be manipulated toward just about any argument. Actually the original statistic was that among regular church goers, 80% were leaning toward Bush. If Bush himself was trusting of the legitimacy of that statistic, he wouldn't be freaking out right now trying to sway voters. Church attendance is just one characteristic of the Bush voter, as being Catholic is just one characteristic of the Kerry voter.
Choose or lose, choose responsibly.
jezebel(80% of people who have met me, would allow me to make decisions for them, I make sure I meet the right people!!!)

Hey guys-
Hope all is well. I just had quite possibly one of the best weekends of my life. Friday, I was lucky enough to attend the NYC Ramones "Be Well- Beat on Cancer" fundraiser/tribute/birthday for Johnny & CJ Ramone...appearances & sets by Sonic Youth, Blondie, The Strokes, Joan Jett, Andrew WK, Josh Homme, Rob Zombie, CJ & Tommy Ramone...it was cool as bloody hell. I felt so lucky to see all these performers in such a small venue and it just made me feel badly I never got to see Joey, Dee Dee & Johnny live :( but it was definitely a fun way to remember their legacy...
Then Saturday, I saw my new favorite obsession: Morrissey, in concert. lol I know people who aren't familiar with him or sort of are say he's such a pessimist & yadda yadda....but whatever. His lyrics truly speak to me especially at this point in my life & I think he is a beautiful performer & quite amusing. I had orchestra seats at Radio City Music Hall & the view was good...but then I definitely went back on Sunday night & had 4th row seats (hell yea, loners who go to concerts by themselves who get last minute incredible seats lol)...and I snagged a copy of the set list, which was just really cool and a great keepsake to hold onto. i love seeing bands/performers when you're just beginning to appreciate or connect with their lyrics/music. that is exactly how i felt when i saw RHCP in '97 at the garden (yeah, sh*tty seats...but we were on dave's side of the arena haha which was cool...we loved the see-through pants haha! but i digress)
I also was able to take in the John Lennon art exhibit marking his 64th bday..."When I'm 64" (aww isn't that so sad?) Well, it was really touching. Yoko rented out a Soho art gallery for a couple of days and displayed original lyric sheets from the Beatles/solo years, simple drawings, complex and some erotic drawings and some really cute drawings John created to teach Sean lessons about life and cross-cultural awareness. I was really moved and hearing his music in the background was a nice touch. It really made me think of his legacy & all he accomplished in only 40 years. It also made me wonder, what would have happened had John stayed alive? Would people be sick of him ranting against war and hatred?
Also...last week rocked because not only did I meet Dave at the NYC & NJ book signings...but I was able to meet Anthony Kiedis at his NYC book signing. I don't think I was able to mention this in my last post a few days ago. Basically, Dave & AK were and remain great spiritual, musical leaders for me & it has been so exciting to pick up their books. I finished Dave's already & I love it.
I am still trying to get through Anthony's, which is pretty long. It's written very simplisticly which is surprising considering how poetic he usually is in interviews & in lyrics...but it's a nice, refreshing way to read his memoirs, if you will. I like some of his descriptions, which can be very humorous. However, it is highly disturbing to read about the 'right way' to do drugs and how he discusses his dad's behavior towards him.
Understandly, you need to make peace with the people who have harmed you in life and you can't hold grudges, but I do feel sorry that (to reiterate Mr. Howard Stern's comments) he was never told "No" and had a hard time learning limits. He and Flea really, truly struggled as young people and often resorted to "immoral" means to get food and satisfaction.
At the time, they really weren't giving themselves enough credit and living the way they should have. in a way it angered me because i read about their deceiptful tricks & anthony does apologize & make peace with his youthful wrongdoings. yet i know how hard i and others have to work because we have responsibilities and it was upsetting to read about them screwing around only working to get paid to spend their dough on drugs.
I feel they are really lucky to have survived...and have been able to reach so many people with their music, honesty and humor. Although I've known of their struggles and appreciated the beauty that came from their struggle, it is almost disappointing to hear the truth from them. It's kind of hard not to be judgmental towards their behavior but I'm really glad they overcame their demons and whatnot.
Can anyone else relate to that feeling? I almost feel angry reading the passages thinking, are you serious? How could you tinker with life like that? How could you disrespect yourselves, your families & others like that?
We all have our weaknesses but I guess I am taking some of the passages personally...but then I realize that we are all human and we all f*ck up. But it's how we get back up, stand on our feet, treat others, impact others and live our lives that make the real difference.
While I felt a bit similarly reading some of the gruesome passages in Dave's book about his declining health, conditions and growing negativity...it made a little bit more sense understanding the struggle with an addiction and the sufferable repercussions...but it's really heartbreaking to hear about somebody neglected by their parents, mistreated and left to fend for oneself resulting in troubled youth and adulthood...i just don't know how anthony grew to trust his parents later in life, but i'm sure he was glad to feel loved and respected, despite his lack of 'traditional' upbringing. then again, i don't personally know him or anything so i really can't say.
i just really think there must've been some force allowing them not to truly f*ck things up...and i'm grateful b/c i love them for it.

ellen...what a great, magnificent, intelligent post. i'm not going to demean it by writing anything...just compliment it on the sheer virtuosity of the analysis you've made and the comments you've stated. i totally agree.
john lennon's memorial is great...i'm glad they celebrated his birthday (same as mine) instead of his deat, and in a way that was appropriate to his life. he was a truly amazing man, and i don't think we would've gotten tired of hearing him preach about peace and love. his presence is sorely missed in today's world.
thank you for a great, intelligent, thought provoking post :-).

I bought your book and read it in ONE DAY!!! I couldnt put it down. I LOVE IT!! I went to rehab and relasped myself (but now i'm clean) so it was great to read that even you had the same troubles as me and many others. If you want to get strong you can - but its hard, if you want to get clean you can - but its hard. I just thank you so much for putting this book out you dont know how much it effects people that have the same struggles as you. I'm SO happy that there is a happy ending in your book/life. Thank you again. Love a long time fan of you and your music ~K8~
