Beautiful pic. It's lovely. Oh and Dave does not know the meaning of Xiola. I guess I will never know. Do any of you guys know what the name means?
Posted by: Crecencia at October 27, 2004 12:22 PM
as usual, you rocked.
a quick one : do you listen to jane's addiction or the peppers or spread or camp freddy or the panic channel like any other band? i mean, do you listen to it objectively?
thanks

Xiola was the muse of perry farrell before and during jane's, but she died. I don't know if this name has a real meaning, I'm not an expert.

Great picture!!! I just finished reading the book and it was great, sad, wonderful, heartbreaking....
I was one of the OG "uni's" who participated in the photo booth website and I remember us being so excited at that time that you were stopping in for chats and being so open on your website.
It was crazy to see the realiy of that time by reading what you were going through. Congratulations for making it through and continually being so thoughtful to your long time fans :)

Dave,
Have you ever worked with Adrian Belew? Are you a fan of his guitar playing?
Posted by: Eric at October 27, 2004 12:32 PM
I found this on a Kabala website of all places (for the person who was looking for a meaning to the name Xiola):
Although the name Xiola creates an interest in the deeper aspects of life, we emphasize that it limits self-expression and friendly congeniality with a moody disposition. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the heart, lungs and bronchial area.
The name of Xiola gives you a clever, quick, analytical mind, but you suffer with a great deal of self-consciousness, lack of confidence, and much aloneness because of misunderstandings. Your idealistic and sensitive nature gives you a deep appreciation for the finer things of life and a strong desire to be of service to humanity. There are times when you experience inner turbulence at your inability to say what you mean. It is far easier for you to express your deeper thoughts and feelings through writing than verbally. You find pleasure in literature, in poetry, and in your ideals and will turn to them when you feel you have been misunderstood. You are deeply moved by the beauties of life, especially nature.

This is my first post so bear with me (I hope this is the appropriate place) but I wanted to say that I am reading the book and it's been interesting what a flood of personal memories it has brought back to me. I am having to read it slowly - like eating too much sugar, it's better for me in small doses at a time. You see I was also an addict and JA was one of my favorite bands during the time. This was many years ago (remember the Scream days in LA?) but the association of my using and the songs is very powerful. I couldn't listen to them - until now. For some odd reason, reading the book has been quite cathartic for me and I took the step of buying Three Days and watching it. Whew! The memories are bittersweet, just like reading the book. I guess the point of all this is to say I'm grateful we both survived and that the healing still continues. Thank you. Angela, Portland, OR

A magnificent pic! Is Lou a humor man? How would've he taken it if you were wearing one of those Kill Your Idol tees?
BTW we Finns got our own O.J. today as our most successful olympic athlete of all time was sentenced to two years and two months in prison for attempted manslaughter. Only! Yeah, the law is a bit different on this side of the globe.
Anyways, Dave, I've always wanted to know how many guitars does a pro like you have? I mean is it as many as a painter has brushes or more like a chaffeur has cars?
Peas on earth!
Posted by: Pekka at October 27, 2004 01:47 PM
Dave,
What does Lou think of your version of venus in furs?
obviously we all love it, but you hold him in such high regaurd. Just cursious.
Much love

WOw. Crazy story about her (Xiola). Not sure if you guys know but last year SPIN mag printed the fully story about how JA got together. And if my memory servs me right, they tell the story of "three days". It is a really cool story with cool pics. I was so thrilled to have the story that I bought 2 copies.
Cori-congrats! Very happy for you.

Did anyone get to the Tommy Lee book signing? I got there JUST in the nick of time!!!! It was so RUSHED! No personalization. We were able to take pics, though. And it seemed you could get other memorabilia signed.
My quick story....I said to him that if he tours solo again he HAS to play drums for at least one song! We missed that the last time....he looked at me with this look like "How did she know?! How could she possibly know I play drums" it was WEIRD...lmao
He was cool & said something like "right on, definitely, awesome" lol

also just wondering if you have a favorite record that you just keep playing, I've been playing Ziggy Stardust so much as of late. It just has so many creative changes.
