CF Rehearsal NYC
We just got done with rehearsal and Lou Reed came down. I cannot express with enough conviction in type, how unreal it was. We did Venus in Furs and The Blue Mask. It was truly a spiritual experience as well as one of the greatest moments of my entire career. I am, for once, at a loss for words.

PRONOIA Is the Antidote for Paranoia:
How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings

THIS IS A PERFECT MOMENT
This is a perfect moment.
It's a perfect moment for many reasons, but especially because you and I are waking up from our sleepwalking thumbsucking dumbclucking collusion with the masters of illusion and destruction.
Thanks to them, from whom the painful blessings flow, we are waking up.
Their wars and tortures,
their crimes against nature,
extinctions of species
and brand new diseases.
Their spying and lying
in the name of the father,
sterilizing seeds and
trademarking water.
Molestations of god,
celebrations of shame,
stealing our dreams and
changing our names.
Their ingenious commercials
and bloodsucking hustles,
their endless rehearsals
for the end of the world.
Thanks to them, from whom the painful blessings flow, we are waking up.
•
Their painful blessings are cracking open more and more gashes in the shrunken and crippled mass hallucination that is mistakenly called "reality." And through the fractures, ripe eternity is flooding in; news of the soul's true home is pouring in; our allies from the other side of the veil are swarming in: inspiring us to become smarter and wilder and kinder and trickier.
We are waking up.
As heaven and earth come together, as the dreamtime and daytime merge, we register the shockingly exhilarating fact that we are in charge--you and I are in charge--of creating a brand new world. Not in some distant time or faraway place, but right here and right now.
•
As we stand on this brink, as we dance on this verge, we can't let the ruling fools of the dying world sustain their curses. We have to rise up and fight their insane logic; defy, resist, and prevent their tragic magic; unleash our sacred rage and supercharge it.
But overthrowing the living dead is not enough. Protesting the well-dressed monsters is not enough. We can't afford to be consumed with our anger; can't be obsessed and possessed with their danger. Our sweet animal bodies need love and fertility. Our imaginations crave tastes of infinity.
In the New World that we are creating, we've got to be steeped in lusty compassion and ecstatic duty, ingenious love and insurrectionary beauty. We need radical curiosity and reverent pranks, voracious listening and ferocious thanks.
•
So I'm curious, my fellow creators. Since you and I are in charge of making a brand New World, where do we begin? What wild truths do we want at the heart of our transformations? What fresh codes and stories will be our oracles? What crafty questions and uplifting desires will be our inspirations?
Here's where I want to begin: with pronoia. Pronoia is the opposite of paranoia--the antidote for paranoia.
Pronoia is the true theory that all of creation is conspiring to shower you with blessings.
Pronoia is the guarantee that life always gives you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.
Pronoia says that everything alive is working very hard to liberate you from ignorance and transform you into the gift of love you were born to be.
•
I am allergic to dogma. I thrive on questions, and don't trust any idea that tempts me to believe in it absolutely. There are very few perceptions or theories about which I am totally certain.
But I am absolutely certain that pronoia describes the way the world actually is. Pronoia is wetter than water, truer than the facts, and stronger than death. It smells like cedar smoke in early spring rain, and if you close your eyes right now, you can feel it shimmering like the aurora borealis in your soft, warm animal body.
Some Buddhists say the inherent nature of existence is suffering; they long to escape into nirvana. Many Catholics say the inherent nature of life is sinful; they long for the purified peace of heaven. But pronoia assures us that the inherent nature of life is to liberate us.
Being born on the earth is the highest honor and greatest privilege. To be alive as human beings gives us the chance to pull off exquisite and Herculean feats of magic that are not possible in nirvana or heaven or any other so-called paradise, higher dimension, or better place.
I'm not exaggerating or indulging in poetic metaphor when I say this. Visualize it if you dare.
The sweet stuff that quenches all of our longing is not far away in some other time and place. It's right here and right now.
As Elizabeth Barrett Browning knew, "Earth is crammed with heaven."

"Some day after we have mastered the winds, the waves and gravity, we will harness for God the energies of love; and then for a second time in the history of the world, humans will have discovered fire. -Teilhard de Chardin

Dave,
There are some moments that are beyond description, especially if the moment is a musical one. It is a harbinger of the success for the Panic Channel and Camp Freddy, and a testament to the positive place where you currently are.
Glad to hear it was a great rehearsal, and the positive vibe of the book and music. Looking forward to seeing either Camp Freddy or the Panic Channel if you make it out to western New York.

Skot~thank you for posting that.
Amazingly, there is going to be a programme on the television here this week about
how a climate of "Fear" has been created, and why is has been. It's called "Fear" even. I've been waiting to see it, wondering what will be said and shown.
What they did in the 1980's to scare the shit out of us is unbelievable now I look back on it. There you are in school, pondering when and if nuclear war is coming at anytime. doing drills. What to do if there's a nuclear war? I was in the states in high school then. I know they did some of that stuff in the UK too, but not nearly as much. It looks laughable looking back at what we were shown on TV or told in school or newspapers, mags, or books we read like "On the Beach"; but it seemed so real at the time. Think about how much of an affect all that crap had on us growing up then. Bollocks to it. Okay, I've had my say for today. :X

Hey Dave,
I got your book today here in Brazil and I can´t put it down. I´m a fan from the time of the old 6767 site and I feel like a part of it all..I´ts cool in a twisted sort of way to know what was going on in your life during that time. Thank god you got your shit together.
Do you have any audio/video from your rehearsal with Lou Reed?? That would be cool!!!

Wow, all I can say is Wow. God, to have been a fly on the wall in that rehearsal room! Lou Reed is the Godfather of Punk! That album was released the year you were born Dave (as if you didn't already know that-lol). I hope you can do Halloween Parade with him (if he comes down again), or Andy's Chest, or Street Hassle, or...Oh man. It doesn't get any bigger than Lou. Some suggested cds are Street Hassle, New York, Transformer(mandatory!), Rock & Roll Animal. Dave and Lou jamming? Are you kidding me? Unbelievable.
Posted by: Zingale at October 20, 2004 11:48 PM
Dave, caught you on Howard Stern half an hour ago... funny. I was kinda curious what shoes you wear, I'd think you'd wear boots but maybe you just haven't found a comfortable pair? Mine are fallin' apart!
Posted by: Justin at October 20, 2004 11:59 PM
Forgot to ask, how is his health? Looks like he's 35, still? He's still into the marital arts, right? Damn, if I could ever meet Lou Reed, Man, I'd piss myself. Lou Reed was "alternative" before alternative was cool, responsible for so much music today and for the past 30 years. What a giant figure in music, and I'm so happy for you Dave, you Rock & Roll Animal! :)

Skot - You da man. That is all so true. And Ylais, you should see Farenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine. The theme of both of those movies is how we now live in a society based in fear. You're so right girl. Our news is broadcast all the time now on several channels-because we're afraid. We have metal detectors everywhere-because we're afraid. We buy too much insurance-because we're afraid. We teach our kids our fear, call it being cautious or conservative. It's all BS. All of us in this family live passionate, committed lives, or we wouldn't be here on this site in the first place. We have great posts from all of us, and we connect. We love our causes and each other, so rebel against the fear and let it go.
oh, and YEAH SOX!! We're gonna win it all.

I'm hoping to make it to Lemon, but I will have to leave work at 4:30 to get there. We'll see how the day goes.... How late do you think people will be at Lemon? Doors for the show are at 7, but that doesn't necessarily mean the show starts then, so will the 6767ers hang for a bit at Lemon? Or head over to Irving right before 7? What's the consensus?

Adina,
Well, I'd imagine we'll be there past 7. Irving Plaza is notorious for opening the doors a half hour late. And I believe The Roots are opening before Camp Freddy. Most of us are getting there between 5:30 and 6, so I'll guesstimate and say that we'll probably be there until 7:30 or later. Guess it depends on how many people order food and how long they want to stay and hang out. Let's see what happens! :)

Hello Big Daddy(Dave)and fam. Saw Howard last night. It was damn funny.
And before I left for work today I was watchin' Vh1 classic and they played "jane says". I have not seen that video since it came out a few years ago. I was at that show, the one where Perry was wearing a blue outfit and Dave was wearing a black skirt with fishnets. Hot. Anyway, that was the first time I saw Jane's, and seeing the video brough back good memories. Oh man, good times. I miss those days. And Dave looked SO hot. Something about a man with make-up on and women's clothes. It just gets me hot. lol.
Anyway...It started off my day to a good start. Just wanted to share my happines. ANd also I had major coffee today. That has a part of it. Good day everyone.Take care.

Hiii again to all and Dave,
I have a question for you Dave..It's really random but..
When I listen to your song..Hungry..ya know the part where it's a guy (prolly you) and some girl whispering before it goes into chorus
What are the words that both of the people are saying?
I have something in my mind of what they're saying but I am not so sure..and I really want to know what they are whispering to each other..

Hey Dave,
I saw your face on the side of a bus this morning on the way to school. I sipped my coffee and smiled. Just felt like sharing.

Hello everybody!! I had some time to kill(a lot of time) so I went reading through the archives. I've only made it through June and July so far. Dave answers a ton of questions there, which is so awesome! If anyone hasn't looked there before, it's really, really insiteful. There were answers to questions that I never knew I always wanted to know.
I hope those goingto the show in NYC have a wonderful time!!

Beautiful People;
Hey what's up just dropping back in. I hope everybody is doing well. Jezzi and TPC Ladies "hello."

You're so sweet Jezzi for reminding everyone of the good cause in the middle of all the fuzz. I think it's great. I should know 'cos my mom died of breast cancer.
Can't wait to hear about the gig itself though! I bet Dave & Lou can work magic on stage.

I hope you guys are having a great time in Nueva York :(
Posted by: wendybird at October 21, 2004 05:37 PM
Pekka, thank you, I just wanted people to know that the whole purpose of this concert was to benefit STEP UP, an organization that not only helps with women's health issues like breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer, but with domestic violence victims.
My dear friend, (Dave's better fan than me), left his home here last October to move to Colorado to care for his sister, who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is a single mom with 4 kids, and going through surgery and treatment took a lot out of her. It's been a year now, she just had her reconstructive surgery, and is expected to make a full recovery. I feel selfish for missing my friend so much, but I know she needs him more.
BRETT!!! You Stud!! Do you ever listen to Tommy on the Steve Harvey morning radio show..Ladies, ladies, ladies, how my, how my ladies doin' out there?

Hey guys!
Dave -- That's so awesome about Lou Reed. Ditto what everyone else has said, now you know how we felt meeting you. I'm really happy for you; and, if I could actually DO a cartwheel, I would.
Lori in PA -- *points to my new sig, grins cheesy* See ... tole ya I'd change it. LOL
And that's about all the energy I can muster tonight. [Works been a raggy bitch this week and my son's failing 3 classes (had to meet with all his teachers today ... I was waiting for them to whip out the rack or an iron maiden).]
Much love,
~~ Lori
P.S. Everyone who went to Irving Plaza ... one word: DETAILS!

I just got back from Irving Plaza. Wow. I'm so glad I went!!! Unfortunately, I didn't make it in time to meet up with anyone I didn't already know!! I have to agree with whoever posted about AIC!!!! I freaked out when they said Jerry Cantrell was there. I knew he played some shows on the West coast, I didn't think he'd be in NYC...so pleasant surprise for me.
Another thing...who knew Fred Schneider could tear s*it up like that?! He was awesome!!! And so NOT goofy!
I'm desperate for audio of the songs w/Lou! They sounded amazing. Loved seeing Dave blissed out over it as well!!!!

Hi All.
WHAT A SHOW.....everyone was EXCELLENT~~!! Dave & Lou! WOOOOW~~! Jerry Cantrell, "Man in the Box", what can say??
Denise & I just got back from the city awhile ago, we stopped for a snack with Sean & Ellen after we all ambushed Dave, Perk & Jerry Cantrell by the backstage area. ;)
Pre-show we hung out with Mike from NYC & his girlfriend, Luz at Lemon.
Dave was more than gracious, he was his usual super charming self, he stopped to talk with us & posed for some photos.
Sorry we all couldn't all hang pre-show....we missed Deena, Emily & I'm sure a host of other 6767ers.
Hector...were you there??? Hope you got to see the show.
Took loads of shots, flash unit literally broke during Camp Freddy! ARGH~~! But I a had great time, my ears are still buzzing. Took the rest of the shots sans flash, Photoshop to the rescue.
Got to get some sleep. Nite all.
take care,
itanja

Dave - you want to take a ride on the "spaceship" according to a story on cnn this morning. You know, that guy who wants a few hundred grand to go into space. Is this true?
Sounds like CF was a great show. I too love Alice in Chains, but can't say Jerry Cantrell is the nicest guy. Interviewed him once not too long ago, and he was a complete ass. One of the worst people I've ever interviewed, unfortunately.
Good day -

DN Fam,
Had a great time last night. I was with ITANJA & DENISE before and during the show. I only saw ELLEN after their set ended. It was great to see you ladies again.
Outside I saw Fred Schneider, Dave & Perk. Got a nice picture of Perk's mohawk. Perk was really cool. He thanked me for being a 6767.com viewer. Dave gave me another autograph. (I like the hair. Much better.)
DAVE, PERK & CHRIS - Thanks for a great show. I will never forget it. Can't wait for the Panic Channel album. You will always have me for a fan.
Later,
Mike from NYC
ITANJA - Please e-mail the pictures of last night and the picture of DAVE that my girlfriend wants to see.

I know I'll definitely catch the Panic Channel when they play Madison Square Garden or hopefully Giants Stadium haha u guys rock and i really can't wait to hear the Panic Channel stuff! Yea, I totally missed Camp Freddy last night. Even if I had the ticket I had a 9-7 work day yesterday and would've most likely been late for the show :(...

Hey all-
Last night's Camp Freddy show was amazing! I wound up chilling w/ Emily and her sister right in the front (the 2nd and later 1st row) and we got Dave's attention with a "6-7-6-7" shoutout, which was very cool! I am so excited I finally got to see Camp Freddy. I had no idea how cool (and sexy -wink wink- haha) Donovan and Billy were. I was really impressed. The band was tight and had strong chemistry.
I was thrilled to finally see Jerry Cantrell live and of all AIC's songs, "Man in the Box" is one of my all-time favorites, so that was a definite treat. The other thing that ruled was Camp Freddy played totally awesome straight-up unadulterated rock. They really let it rip. I was so excited to have known all of the songs. I love when that happens! The concert kept you guessing and excited about the next song and the next guest vocalist, so it was really exciting to be there. Some of my favorites were "Jailbreak", "Should I Stay", "Whole Lotta Love", "Feel Like Making Love", "Blitzkrieg Bop" and so many more.
We got to meet Dave, Jerry, Perk, Fred, etc. after the show, so that was really fun. Exactly like Sean said, I felt bad for holding them up, but ultimately it was very cool just even shaking hands with the musicians I admire. I finally met Perk which was great. I had met Dave, Steve Isaacs & Chris Chaney before and I feel excited to have finally met the last (but certainly not the least hehe) member of The Panic Channel. I took some great pictures, but let's hope they came out well. I know Sean managed to organize a huge 6767 fan picture with Dave, so hopefully that will get up on the site soon enough. Once I get my pictures- from the book signing in NYC and from the CF show- I will definitely find a way to post them online :)
Then afterwards, Denise, Itanja, Sean and I went to the bar/restaurant Coffee Shop in Union Square. On the walk there, I channeled One Hot Minute's "Coffee Shop" so that was funny.
When I finally left the city around 2:30 am, getting my car in the parking garage, I chatted with two gals who were at the show & one of them wound up being Deena from 6767, so that was crazy!
Aight folks, I must go. Have a wonderful weekend!
Posted by: Ellen at October 22, 2004 07:29 AM
Also, Dave, your hair looked so good! No more gel or hats, ok? capiche? haha just kidding...but seriously we were 'ooh'-ing and 'ahh'-ing lol
one more thought- when the van drove away that held the CF guys, we all started chanting "panic channel!" so that was a fun, unified crowd :)
Posted by: Ellen at October 22, 2004 07:33 AM
Ok guys, quit capping on the hat...get it? "capping" on the "hat" tee-hee....
Dave, thank you for the morning rejuvenation...that hair is positively yummy...and that pic of you on the leopard couch....ok, ok, nothing to see here, citizens, as you were....
What did Gina sing? That girl ROCKS!! Did anyone catch her doc on IFC?
anyway, back to DAVE!!! You New Yorkers all sound like you had a most excellent time...kinda puts the whole Yankee thing in perspective!!
