Stuff

Will_spreadI have noticed a lot of talk about Scott recently and let me assure you, he was in great form the other night. At the top of his game and totally professional.

1. Who is Lisa Leverage? She looks pretty cool in the pic, but I don't know what band she is in.

Lisa plays guitar for Courtney. She rules! We traded guitar straps that night.

2. Is Matt going to be playing at the CF show at Irving Plaza on the 21st? If not, is Perk going to fill in?

I believe Perkins will be joining us.

3. Dejavu I think it is,Itanja and lisa, I have been ranting about this for days now. There are places that are selling official autographed copies of Dave's book, they are the BOOKSTORES that have entered into a business arrangement with him through proper channels...I'm assuming, or I could be talking out of my ass..

I will be doing 2 book signings in NY and 2 in LA. Some of the stores are offering a chance to get the book signed if you purchase it on the date of release. It would be nice to be able to give everyone out there a free signed copy but then M.A.P. wouldn't reap the benefit. My proceeds will be going to M.A.P., a charitable organization that helps addicts with recovery. I have nothing to do with the money, I'm just trying to do my share and help out people who are struggling with the same demons I have been so blessed to be set free from. Whether you buy a book from the store, a man on the street, or e-bay….someone down the line had to have bought it somewhere and that money is accounted for and will be sent to M.A.P.

4. How about Howard Stern?

10/4

Just want to say thank you again for all your support and for sharing your pictures with us. We are looking forward to launching The Panic Channel web site on 10/31... Holloween. I don't know if I have raved enough about Shoot! It feels so good to be part of such an awesome community. Not only is the track rocking, but it is a total Online collaboration! You guys rule. None of you even live in the same country! Great job. I should be in the studio in mid-October, so perhaps I can jump on it too.

one hot minute is pretty damn good. i was buying drugs from the same place anthony was around this time, a time i was listening to this album constantly. it would have been strange to see him, while thinking he was sober. i also thought he was sober for some reason, until i read his book... what a fuck up!
what an amazin story. love the dark guitar sounds there. no mas chiva.

So when and where are the book signings? Can we still attend if we have already purchased the book, and just want to say thanks?
Thanks for you time

Mornin' Dave (it's past 1 am here). I was just wondering what the chances are of you doing a book signing in Toronto? Incidentally, Anthony is doing one here on the 8th. Also, do you have any particular costume in mind for Halloween? Thanx for the update. ~ Karina

Seee, I told you I was talking out of my ass.....at least HALF...the DUMB part.....his name is JACK!!!

Fight Club...I am Jack's dumb ass....

I think that's awesome, but in my defense, that's what I meant, that even if you wanted to give the money to charity, it should ultimately be YOUR intentions...

you are the one that is putting his soul out there, with what my mom would have said 'warts and all'

ok, i am reminded of 70s poster my cousin beth had

It's good to be a seeker, but sooner or later, you have to be a finder.
And then it is well, to give what you have found, a gift unto the world
for whover will accept it.

I get this way during full moons...

Dave:

Take a solo at the end of the 2nd chorus of "Go On".

Trust me, it'll work beautifully.

I'll kick Isaac's ass if he objects!!!!

Verse-Chorus-Verse-Blah!

Sorry for the QC, but past solos were beautiful and are the constant soundtrack to my life!

Love to 6767, love for all.

hmmm...ny? lol..i like the sound of that...and can't wait for howard stern...love that guy...he's awesome...and very very intelligent...i think that gets overshadowed a lot...oh well.

can't wait for some panic channel action...i'm so psyched for this project! from waht i've seen it's AMAZING!

Much luck to you and your near future pursuits!

love you dave, never posted before, but I just want to thank you for all the great music. one hot minute is so underated. anyway, have you read anthony's book/will you? What do you think about his and your book coming out around the same time? thanks alot.

Posted by: Jeff at September 29, 2004 11:03 PM

Did you or FreAk do the solo on "Shoot?" It sounds really great either way.

Posted by: americanzer0 at September 29, 2004 11:04 PM

Hey Dave whats up, I'm glad to hear Scott is doing well. I can't wait to pick up a copy of the book, it sounds really interesting. I don't read that much and your getting me to read! Thats so cool that all the profits are going to help drug addicts recover, man. Very cool and selfless. Howard Stern is great, can't wait to hear that.

How would you describe the sound of TPC compared to the other work you've done? Your style always grows and changes so much from project to project, which keeps things interesting. Your classic Jane's style is so different from something like TNO. Where would you say your playing style is currently heading?

Posted by: Bill at September 29, 2004 11:31 PM

Hey Colleen!!! Is that you up there today??? "Will spread...." Clever clever ;)

Posted by: Abby at September 29, 2004 11:36 PM

so the guitar strap swapping thing... is that like when soccer players exchange shirts at the end of a match?? what other musicians have you done that with?

btw "go on" sounds AWESOME and it was stuck in my head today the entire time while i was waiting at the eye doctor's office (appropriate considering the last few lines of the song)

Dave, will you be taking a 2nd attempt at "Lord of the Anal Rings"?

you can beat Artie. i know you can.

SPECIAL REQUEST

DAVE, please try and post the CF version of I wanna be your dog that's played on 103.1... i've only caught the end and i must hear it!

Posted by: chris at September 30, 2004 04:32 AM

americanzer0~It's FreAk who plays the guitar solo on ShooT :) Talented guy.

And I'm really loving the t-shirt in the pic. It looks way better than the pic I used for my sweater, dAmNiT! :) I'd jump the bandwagon and send in a pic, but I live in the land of the snow and it's a winter sweater so it's not a very hot pic, so I think I better just leave it :p

Have a good one, everyone!

Dave~Thanks for clarifying what's happening with your book. I do recall you saying a while back that proceeds were going to M.A.P.
I'll be buying the book signed or not. :)
If I had a signed copy, I'd probably cherish that, and get another reading copy anyway!
In case, anyone forgot, and because OHM and drug use was mentioned again, Dave posted not too long ago that he was not using during OHM. I just felt like I wanted to clear that up. I dunno if I'd be spreading around drug use and where I got the drugs in the past if I were you Chris. But okay, I'm me.
Am I making sense? Jez, I get pretty loopy around the full moon myself. I think of it as a more creative period in life. ;) But lots of the time it feels like my head is stuffed with fluff, like Pooh Bear.

$70, 000 for getting my nose and jaw fixed, please, they're still fucked up after a close encounter with a lacrosse ball when I was 13. No more headaches. Yes!!! :)
Then I can get out there and do my bit.

Great to have you post again Dave. I miss it when you don't! :)
Love
Lisa

I picture myself in 50 years wandering the city parks with my CATS, in support hose sagging at the ankles, screaming obscenities at imaginary flies I will be swatting away from my face....

Terrible day yesterday, I broke up with my boyfriend 'emi', after an argument we had about money...
I said I couldn't support his coke habit anymore, and to get off my couch and get a real job, instead of sponging off his friend

Good Morning Everyone,
Last night’s Scissors Sisters concert rocked. They have an interesting following. One of the security guards recognized me from last Camp Freddy show and totally hooked me up with drinks all night. Woohoo! It takes so little to make me happy. I can’t believe I’m typing these words but there was actual point where I had to tell him no more please.

Anyhow Jezebel, sorry to hear that you had a horrible day things happen for a reason and I’m sure that things will turn out great at the end.

Dave, since it’s for a good cause I think I’m gonna have two buy a few copies and give them away for x-mas. By the way how much is the book?

I’m still a little sad that I’ll be missing the Wiltern show. I’m a bit tempted right now to book a flight to New York and catch the show there. I’m gonna have to do some research and see how much it will set me back. If I could find a reasonable flight I’m there. (This is why I’m always broke and have a shitty car)

Are tickets still available?

Have an excellent day.

Wendy

Hi wendybird,

Just found out AFTER I ordered my NYC Camp Freddy tickets, that there IS a 'VIP' package deal available.....to attend BOTH the gig & an AFTER PARTY!!! Talk about Woo-Hoooo~~!!

Now I am wondering if I can order tickets for the party, since I already ordered the concert tix...??????? Of course, they announce this info AFTER tix went on sale.

Here's the number: 323-960-8951 to call for info. I am assuming this package deal will be for BOTH the Wiltern & NYC shows.

There was an ad in this weeks VILLAGE VOICE advertising some kind of 'package deal' / VIP tickets for the concert & an AFTER PARTY package. I don't know if you get The VOICE out in California. It's a free weekly newspaper.

Fred Schneider of the B-52s is also performing & actress Kyra Sedgewick is the Host. I don't know if that's just for the NYC Irving Plaza show. ???????!!!!!

Good Luck whatever show you decide on goin too~~!!

Take care!
itanja

Posted by: itanja at September 30, 2004 11:27 AM

O.k I checked and it would only cost me 200 for airfare. I never been in New York and I’m feeling spontaneous right now. Should I book it??? I don’t know what to do. I know hotels run pretty expensive over there are there any in particular that you guys would recommend that are near the venue are not too expensive???? Now I just need to check with my boss.

Posted by: wendybird at September 30, 2004 11:47 AM

How do you write music Dave? Do you have a special method or do you write it in sheet? If so, when did you learn?

And why won't you tell us what is your religion? :D

Hey Dave,

You didn't mention the locations of your book singings. I saw in the Daily News this morning that the New York singing will be Monday at the Barnes & Noble at Astor Place - however, it didn't say what time. Does anyone know what time the signing will take place?

Also, Dave if you (or any of the 6767 crowd) are in New York City this Saturday October 2nd & are looking for something to do stop by & see my band Ointment at the Orange Bear. The Orange Bear is downtown at 47 Murray Street, which is near City Hall. You can take the N or R to City Hall or the 1 or 9 to Chambers St to get to the Orange Bear.

You can check out some live versions of our tunes at:

http://www.sonicbids.com/Ointment

I still also have a midnight slot available if there are any band out there that are looking for a gig. You can contact me about the gig or send any feedback you may have on the libe tunes, via email at: lusciouslenny@mad.scientist.com

thanks,
Lenny

PS. Is there any chance, Dave, that you'll post the Pre-TNO track "Whore" on the download section of the site. I love that song and I'd love to have a good version & plus I'm too damn lazy to find the version I downloaded off Napster eons ago.

K, I think I officially had way too much caffeine today. Oh well too late.

"it is done to take out bush, tell me when it will be pass, and if it passing now, please tell me too."
this sounds like she's saying that someone is planning to destroy bush by passing some rediculously toxic gas and that she wants a warning beforehand so she can escape the tidlewave of deadly stench.

Did you find a hotel, the Irving Plaza website has links to hotels in area

lusciouslenny--book signing is at 7:30- go to barnes and noble website for more info

those of you going to musicland, I am going on tuesday, october 5th, after work to buy book, they issue a wristband to you when you buy book, but only on that date, you then bring the wristband back with you to the book signing on the 12th, starting at 7, and Dave will sign only for those with wristbands, only books that were purchased on 5th, this according to employee.
Anyone wants to meet me there, email me and let me know..

And naked people walking around with boa constrictors. And a live bondage show. Oh! And a slip and slide going down the bowling alley into the pins! Acrobats on stilts...juggling firey objects...Naked of course! I'll get some wings from Hooters!
Everyone is invited!
70K outta cover this but no...make it 100K. Yep. That outta do it!
Once again...I need this!

We can make it an annual event.

This is too funny. You would think that the new harvest moon was today. I’m finally coming down my caffeine rush. I don’t know what’s going on, even here at the office too many bizarre things are occurring.

Shit I’m going to New York. I’m finally going to New York. I’m excited and scared at the same time. I know to most it’s not a big deal but as you can see I seldom leave the Southern California/Nevada boundaries and to top it off I’m going alone.

I’m in for the Vegas thing too, while we are at it why not ask for a cool mil. (rolls laughing)

We can hire Led Zeppelin to play a gig with Perk on drums! Oh! And edible chocolate body paint. We need that too! We need vinyl pants. We need to have a rock wall with a full bar at the top! We need that big BBQ truck that is as big as a city bus to cook ribs. Oh and someone bring some condoms. We need condoms! Oh and duct tape because you always need duct tape...

Ok! So this is sooo do-able! All we need is the cash and the midgets.

Quick Midget/Coke story... Roger Taylor from Queen told me that Freddie used to hire uniformed midgets (little people) to walk around the party with platters of coke and straws atop their heads...like Hors de ourves! How friggin rock and roll decadent is that?!?

WE NEED THIS! Make it a half a mil and we'll stop there!

OH YEAH! IMA BOUT TA DO SON!

Alright minus the drugs... of course! All in good fun!

Vegas Thing- Maybe have DJ's spinning in each room, a speed metal band on the patio of the "Penthouse", doing covers of Slayer's "Reign in Blood." Maybe a Karioke machine for all those brave enough? The possibilities are endless here people.

As per the (little people)- party attenders much make every attempt to NOT make any references to "The Wizard of OZ" or "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" or it will get really ugly. LOL

Dave - I've followed the band in the UK since the late 80's and never posted a comment on a Jane's / Xiola / 6767 baord before. Seen the gigs, the albums, the t-shirts since the off. So far so nothing. The following is my one time writing to you all in getting past 15-17 years support. If you have the time I'd love to think you read it to the end whatever the bumps on the way - it's a message of deep love and affection at heart. Ta. G.

I went to the Halloween Special at the Brixton Academy in London on the Strays tour. The following gig, the last in the UK tour, was broadcast in entirety by XFM in London and the mp3 is widely available - the whole thing. At the two shows you can hear Perry tag between songs with comments like "So this is what it's come to huh? Is this it? Is this what you find at the end of the rainbow?". Although Perry is Perry (watched since the late 80's early 90's yaddy-yadda how authentic am I bitch face etc), I'm still not really sure that he wasn't pretty loaded. Maybe he wasn't - there's an 'unrehearsed' acoustic slower rendition of "Just Because" when he says "Hey hey hey, I think we just figured something out!!" which conveys excitement going forward so basically I dunno.

My impressions of that final tour were pretty mixed. I loved, man I loved the fact that the gig happened. It will remain with me always. Brilliant that it happened - I nearly crashed the car when I heard the tickets being announced. What, objectively, I noticed from watching some earlier videos of 80's / 90's tours and ones I went too versus the gig was this;

The band originally used to be so fucking *dangerous* - they were a desparately wound spring and the gigs used to feel like a riot could go off at any second. Litterally. I saw them in front of 800 people in Bristol in England in 89 I think and man it was volatile - I dragged some poor unconcious fuck out of the audience when he was being trampled.

The band in 03 was just, I dunno, so fucking in need of a good kick in the nuts. No-one expects men in their 30's and hell 40's to be that angry still but the things that really needed a good kick in the arse for me were;

Dave having just been lost to posing on stage so comprehensively. Its impossible to understand now just how freakish and dangerous Janes appeared on the Nothings Shocking picture cover compared to the poodle rock been executed in the mainstream strip by Axl and co at the same time. Dave moves these days, if not looks, like he should be in the Dave Lee Roth Revue Band. Pretty disappointing for a guy that likes Souixsie and Bauhaus. He's got a missus that has built a pretty career on media coverage and to be honest fair play to her but Dave can't pass video and picture posturing and media coverage as content when the end product is music that people connect to emotionally. That the man who co-wrote Then She Did seems to have lost the balance between the creation and the visual is enough to make me want to shake him by the rock lapels.

2nd; Perkins gooning like a complete idiot with all these theatrical melodromatic cymbal splashes and strokes like he was executing cable television medical drama drumming. Big arm waves with open mouthed "ooooohs" like he was *really* feeling it which he just did NOT look like he was doing. He really really camped the whole fucking thing up on Up The Beach which was the first number ffs and never led up. A real tragedy - how can you get these amazing songs if a core member looks like he's drumming the revue.

The flailling posturing was just immensely obviously unfelt and just "the show". Another example of the same was on a simple "how do" from the covering radio station. Dave lauched into an unprompted incredibly cheesy "Hi I'm Dave Navarro and You're Listening To XFM". The radio presenter just about kept it together and said "uhh ok" because it was so obviously radio 101 and had just blown his interview cool. Total Hollywood shite.

Chris C. I guess the bloke just cannot have a fair crack of the whip given the legacy of Janes and you know I would never criticise him on "not being Eric". It's not fair clearly. However, god's honest truth, he just is *so* un-rock and roll on stage. He can diet, set his cheekbones all he likes and wear a leather jacket but I've never seen someone in a major rock band less comfortable than he looks. I understand that Dave and probably Steve have a lot of respect for his bass playing and that carries a lot of weight indeed. However he looks like a very nice looking trendy accountant and is just so not rock and roll. The serious face, the head nodding and the shrugging of the skeleton is just so un-hip! It reminded me, throughout, of watching your favourite funny relative on the dance floor. He's a really nice guy, really funny, and you just think "oh my god why's he on the dancefloor / stage cos he's just so uncool! Just sooooo fuckin unconvincing - sorry!

So Perry - still fucked up, still wild. My following was never with Perry and I would never support him for simply being still so out there. I expect all artists to move on because they themselves want to. I was just so damn disappointed with the grease-stick corny candy of Dave and Steve at these gigs and the ironing-board charisma of Chris. Did Perry look like a star by comparison? Yes, despite being an anti-Perry fan to that stage, yes he did a million times over.

I dunno what happened to Jane's on the split. What I do know is that Strays had the the smell of a band where ALL four members were trying to score commercial success. That includes Perry in the cheesy soundbites for MTV and all that shit on the DVD. Eventually there were various interviews with all members saying "we expect(ed) to be massive". Yes the band wrote some nice stuff but the band fucking copped out and wrote some naff stuff too in the persuit of commercialism.

Once upon a time four young men took almost all of the future of rock in their hands and twisted it into a completely new trajectory and did something extraordinary indeed. The cop out, soft flap, bullshit, posturing of mainstream rock has nothing to do with that extraordinary creative ability that they had. I am so very sorry that more than one has defocused on where their STILL EXISTING artistic creative genius lies. The foundation of confidence to do such extraordinary stuff that they should so richly enjoy is still there. Trading it for this tawdry dull stuff that was lastly, so latterly evidenced on SkyCycle Steve's website is just awful. Seriously guts, dial it up on the website and look at it - it's not a new band in its formative stages, it's a 2nd tier combo. You are NOT going to get an Audioslave / Velvet Revolver type reaction out of this.

For heavens' sake Steve, Dave, Perry, (even Eric hell), don't think that your genius was the drugs and the time. It influenced it but it didn't create your *musical taste*. You found the ability to do something so totally fucking different from the dross. That's why we all bought it. That's why we collectively "made you what you are". To be so high and think that your future could lie in going mainstream rather than persuing the burning comet you created - how could that *possibly* be sensible? To squander the opportunity to create brilliant songs which millions of people spontaneously recognised because of the insane belief that you'd be better off "going commercial"? You are collectively brilliant at being yourselves. The public recognised it before and bought the records and gave the reputation you deserve. Being "commercial" achieves/d nothing.

As a twenty year fan who wrote to you for the first time ever, can I just say this. What a total fucking point of potential tragedy. Do you want to die with this current stuff as your legacy? Or, if you cast it ALL to the wind and include more than just the popular but the dark, the rythmically, melodically and texturally complex and just did whatever you thought best, then you could make the most extraordinarily successful rock album in history.

The choice is yours. What do you want? Flip the coin my dear long time friends. Just flip the fucking coin.

hello to everyone... jezzi, Abby, Cassandra, Blanca, Brett...

i finally got the chance to sit down and listen to Shoot and wow... that was great. i am so amazed at the talent. they/you all are great, but Freak, you absolutely blow me away. that you even have to ability to do what you did, just rocks.

jezzi - i am going to buy the book tuesday and get my wristband, but since my 4:00 class will not be held, i am going to drive out there earlier in the afternoon to miss as much traffic as possible. does anyone know... which way does the traffic get bad during rush hour? i am driving from anaheim out to LA - is rush hour bad going TO LA or FROM LA??

i was watching That 70's Show last night and Danny Masterson had the greatest line... his "new" dad asks him why he wears is Led Zeppelin shirt so much and he replies:

"if god didn't want me to wear it so much, he wouldn't have made them rock so hard"

classic... =)

That post from G bummed me out... Chill out, dude. It's only rock and roll.

Which is why we NEED to have a million ( I bumped it up.) dollars to have a weekender at the HARD ROCK! We need elephants to ride out by the pool. We need a live theatrical recreation of The Wall by the Cirque Du Soleil people. We need sunblock. We need free breast exams. We need Howard Stern to MC and host. We need tiki torches. We need a fire pole to the lobby. We need vaseline. We need naked skydivers. We need balloon animal makers! We need this! NEED!

This is so do-able!

Posted by: Steve at September 30, 2004 05:38 PM

yeah, Brett. i like songs that have more than one style to them... like Stairway to Heaven. there is no possibility for monotony.

He-lloooo Community!

Wassssup, Dave?

Guess what: I´m back by popular demand! lol
After many trials and tribulations (including drinking binges, struggling with both my internal AND external demons and losing my job) I´m finally back!

it´s all good, tho - I´m unemployed but healthy and happy as my gym memmbership won´t expire till December.
And I´ve been using a lot of pictures of DAVE as an inspiration for me to hit the gym on a daily basis (pumping iron, boxing classes, the lot) and also to go jogging in the world famous (not really) Ibirapuera Park, right here in São Paulo, Brazil.

So I´m doing pretty good... Against all odds, so it seems.

But enough about me. Let´s talk about DAVE cos this is what we´re here for.

I thought I´d resume my posting activities by asking him a random, unrelated to recent posts and utterly stupid question... Just to show everybody I still got "it" (whatever "it" might be...lol)

Here it goes: I´m watching THREE DAYS right now and there´s a scene in which PERRY claims that he doesn´t know how money he has but if he wants, he can get a sandwich in one hour (frankly, I wasn´t very impressed, I myself can get a mean turkey sandwich in about four and a half minutes, there´s this nice lil deli right across the street, you know - but I digress)

Question is: how long does it take for YOU Dave to get a sandwich - if you REALLY, really want one?

as usual, tons of love , respect and ETERNAL gratitude for your wonderful music,

Luiz Marcondes
(Brazil)

HEY!

Don't make fun of the midgets. They cannot help their genetic makeup.

And what's with people giving their opinions on the whole Jane's breakup on here? It happened, live with it, move on.

Oh, and one thing I'm getting tired of reading about bands is people pretty much saying they're the best on drugs as that's where the genius lies, they're lame if they're not on them, etc. Reality check: drugs may be one of many inspirations for songwriting, but they are not an originator of creativity- the musician/artist hemselves is.

hmmm...don't know what to make of the dude G...he's allowed to have his opinion...don't necessarily agree with it though lo...enough about that.

i need massive amounts of info on this book signing thing...jezzi, ellen, or someone please give me info...i can just hop a train and be out in la ciudad...thanks...i'd really appreciate it.

Good job w/ winning the silver chip on Celebrity Poker that aired on Bravo tonight. Not sure if that was a re-run, but it was still fun to watch.

Your Buick Grand Nat'l. (#96) was listed in Automobile magazine's Oct. issue as one of the 100 coolest cars.

Q. What kind (brand) of boots did you wear to TPC show? They looked pretty darn comfortable..

After reading today's posts with so many dates and times being tossed around, it became really evident that we should have an online calendar. As far as I know, there aren't any calendars around that are comprehensive, and feature all projects / events in one place, so I created one. I put it up at my site and it's linked through the homepage, but here is the direct link: http://members.tripod.com/~tno13/calendar.html

I'll try to pick up what info I can from here and I'll update it regularly. If anyone sees anything that I'm missing, or if anyone notices anything inaccurate, please let me know here or via email: Deena1313@cs.com

I hope this helps us all keep track of what's going on.

Spreading the love,
Deena

G, I really love the last record Jane's made and I loved the tour we did. Think what you will of me, but I believe that Perry is undeniably a star and Perk and Chaney are the best rhythm section in the world. I see that the only reason anyone could feel so strongly about my artistic decisions, is that the music really meant something to you, so thanks.
