R.I.P.
R.I.P. Johnny. Your music has touched us all and we will never forget the joy you have brought into our lives. Years ago, like in the late 80's/ early 90's we did some shows opening up for the Ramones. It was one of those experiences that I cannot describe how amazing it was, to actually open for our heroes was such a beautiful gift. It is so nice that Johnny was able to feel the love of his peers before he left us. You will be missed, mate. God Bless.

Blessed tidings to family and friends. His pain is gone and that is always something I latch onto when someone passes.

And another legend has left us.
Thank you Johnny for the joy and fun you brought to us. Your music... your legacy... will live on forever.

I never thought I was a fan of the Ramones, but after hearing the news on the radio today they played a song that I love and have been trying to find the name of for what seems like forever. Ironically, just when I realize that I do like them, Johnny is no longer around.

Think about the party in Rock and Roll Heaven. Joey, Dee Dee and now Johnny. Jamming together again. Leather jackets with white angel's wings. What a show!
Rock-n-Roll forever!

I just heard the news this morning while I was driving to work. I'm just glad that I was able to see the Ramones several times over the years. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the tribute show on Sunday. It makes me a little bit happier knowing that Johnny could hear us cheering "Hey Ho Let's Go!" over the phone during the tribute.

Touching dreams in my memories
Amazing how real they seem
Magic tricks behind closed eyes
Lighting up my mind at night
Close your eyes
See a place where it's alright
Close your eyes,take a hand
Now your in the Promised Land
Close your eyes,see the light
It's your star shining brightest tonight.

I was very saddened to hear this news last night. It breaks my heart, but thankfully they can keep on rockin up there.
Posted by: Karrie at September 16, 2004 11:42 AM
my condolences to all those who were a part of Johnny's life.
Even though I've been listening to Ramones music since I was a kid, I unfortunately never had the chance to see Joey, Dee Dee, Tommy, and Johnny together live as the Ramones. I am so very grateful I had the opportunity to go to the tribute show and be in the presence of Tommy Ramone (who was at the show) and be a part of the last crowd Johnny would ever hear shouting "Hey, ho, let's go!"
"God bless the Ramones." AK 9/12
The music they gave will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Hi Dave & Friends
It's heartbreaking, Joey, Dee Dee & now Johnny not to mention Joe Strummer. I grew up in awe of these guys. The Ramones where the first band I ever saw live & are a huge part of what made me fall in love with rock music. They'll be rockin' in heaven tonight. 1-2-3-4!
Goodnight & godbless Johnny

Twisted Angel,
i can totally relate. it seems that all the musicians that i start to appreciate have already passed by the time i discover them. most of my favorite groups are from the 70's so i never had the chance to experience them live. but lately, i was just barely too late. the grateful dead, nirvana, sublime... i have said before that i was born too late...

Sarah,
Cool but sad Sublime story...
I used to run a bar in Pasadena and we had this band from Long Beach booked on a slow Thursday night. Well these 3 scruffy dudes show up and we introduce them to about 15, maybe 20 people.
It was Sublime and they just blew up the stage. We were all just mesmerized by the energy and talent of Brad. Was it punk? Was it Ska? Was it surf? Whatever it was...it was amazing. Plus this was a small room with barely anyone there...it was like a private show.
We paid them $50 bucks for the gig and when it came time to pay up, Brad came up and asked to get paid. I said sure and then he said that he had to get home because he was sick. I asked if he had a cold and he told me he was dope sick. I handed him the cash and told him that I really enjoyed the set and that he should get straight because that shit was going to kill him. He then said that he knew and they split. After that, the band blew up and the rest is history. Heroin is a drag.

Gone but not Forgotten--Johnny--
Thanks for being a real punk band, all the way.
Posted by: Shane at September 16, 2004 03:28 PM
wow Steve,
your story gave me goosebumps... seriously. if i HAD to say my favorite group of all time, and i mean HAD TO like gun-to-my-head HAD TO....... i would probably say sublime. i just love everything they do, and, like you mentioned, there is so much variety. i remember my friend made me a tape of 40 oz to freedom when i was in junior high and i listened to it all the time, memorizing all the words, and i didn't even know the name of the group. then one day, they were huge.
some of the best rockers out there have such a sad story. but, as with many musicians passed, their story will live on through their music.
thanks Steve!

I just heard the news
RIP Johnny!!!! The RAMONES.....what can you say to do them justice? They are so heavy as far as an influence to so many! Their music will never die, and it will continue to influence listeners, musicians, artists and everybody else in between. Legends in my book...hands down.
Be safe and be well-Brett

Hi Dave and everyone
It is so sad, the news of Johnny.
Stemming off the posts of Sublime...Dave, I'm so glad you are clean now. You are such an infuence and I/we wouldn't want you to go before your time. Congrats on making it out! I know how hard it must have been. Thank you Dave! You are so inspiring!

Yeah, i just saw Henry Rollins speak at KSU. What a guy. He was pretty badass, and had some really cool things to say. He's fuckin' hilarious, too. I'd say he talked about the Ramones for about 20 minutes or a half hour. He talked about visiting johnny last week, and how much the ramones changed his life. It was real cool. Six7Six7, do you go to school at Kent?
Posted by: Bill at September 16, 2004 07:07 PM
Nope, i go to Akron. Formerly went to Uni of Cincinatti
I just happen to go see Rollins anytime he hits Ohio. i think that was my 5th spoken word gig.

Yeah Dave, how about it - a gig in London, UK exclusive for us Panic Agents. I live about 3 hours drive from London but it would be soo cool.
Just think, you could come over in December, bring Carmen and combine it with a little Christmas shopping UK styleee! ;)

Actually Steve, I have a lame question too ;)
