CL Kickin Ass!
Well, it has been a few days since I have actually checked in. What can I report? I have updated the Agency Artwork pages. Some cool stuff and some cool and funny stuff. Thank you for the submissions. The link is on the right as Agency Artwork 4. Once again, we had a really amazing time on Tuesday night and enjoyed meeting some of you. There was a mention in Blabbermouth about the gig:
THE PANIC CHANNEL, the new band featuring former JANE'S ADDICTION members Dave Navarro (guitar), Stephen Perkins (drums) and Chris Chaney (bass), along with singer Steve Isaacs, made their live debut on Tuesday (Sept. 21) at the Dragonfly in Los Angeles, CA. The group's set list for the show was as follows:
01. Punish Me
02. UnHoly Ghost
03. Loophole
04. Bloody Mary
05. She Won't Last
06. Outsider
07. Go On
08. Half Hearted
09. Ashes
Commented Navarro: "That was so much fun! Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported us. It was so great to meet some of you and be back in the club. I hadn't played there in years."
In a separate posting, Navarro's CAMP FREDDY bandmate Billy Morrison (DOHENY, ex-THE CULT) wrote, "The songs are killer, Steve is a perfect frontman, and Dave, as usual, is a genius on guitar. Chaney and Perkins have to be one of the best rhythm sections out there. Big up to the guys, and I look forward to great things from them."
What else? Unfortunately, CFR tomorrow is going to be a repeat as we (Camp Freddy) are doing a private party in Anaheim. I wish you guys could come, but I will tell you all about it and we will make it up to our West Coasters at the Wiltern show, East Coasters at the Irving Plaza show. Yesterday I went down to Courtney Love's studio and went over a couple of songs for the CF show with her and her guitar player Lisa. We did Iggy's Search and Destroy and Courtney just killed it. Her voice sounds better than ever and she is doing so well. She looks great, sounds great and I am so happy for her. She has been through enough and I can totally relate. (Psychic group hug for Courtney.) Today we rehearse, cram session style, as we always do before a CF gig. I am really looking forward to it.
This question came in which caught me eye:
Q: In your opinion, would you have been able to write something like the solos in Three Days or Noone's Leaving or even the One Hot Minute stuff (which is one of the greatest and most underrated guitar albums around)without the use of drugs? Or did it help to get something out of your system you might not have been able to express otherwise?
A: I appreciate the praise regarding OHM. The truth is that I was totally clean throughout that process. So, I suppose the answer is yes. The JA record was written way before the recording so even though I was not at my best when we recorded, I was when we were writing. Different times, different albums, different guys.
Peace my loves,
Dave

Good Friday morning family. Hope everyone is well. I am SO mad, I missed the show. I accually had plans for another show up in San Francisco to go to. I already had the tix, so I could not miss it. I rather not say who I saw but it took me back to my teen years and it was someone from a boy band that was out in the early 90's. I am sure you guys can figure it out. But it was before I discovered Jane's. Anyway. Sounds like the show was a blast.
Dave please post some pics if you can. Glad to hear that Courtney is doing well. Love that girl. Take care everyone. Dave hope you guys have a great show.
One love, Agent Sassy cc

Thanks for the answer. I guess the next question is
Where the hell did a 19yr old (?)pull the first solo of Three days from?
I think I have a recording from 1986 or 87 that is very similar to the one played on the album. It remains one of the most narrative and brilliant solos in my 2300+ cd collection, and sounds unlike anything else you've written. There are other solos from around the same time that sound similar to each other, but that one stands alone...
What was so different about that particular one for you? Or that process

question:
while reading the article about the book you said that there was no one you have on a list to work with. but, is there something that you havent done in your life, or career that you want to. i mean, you have done some great albums, videos, concerts, been on a few t.v. shows, in the movies, even wrote a book... what else is there? dave navarro fashion line... all pants, no shirts..haha
anyway, just bored and thought i would ask

Dave,
Just wanted to say I think that it's awesome that you're being so supportive of Courtney Love. The media has been so unfair to her throughout all of her trials and tribulations and it's nice to know that you and other musicians have her back.
XO.
Posted by: Jess at September 24, 2004 11:01 AM
Axis, forgot to give you props on that question. And good point on a 19 yr old creating that kind of music. I never thought about it like that. Three days is one of my most FAV songs, and I am always amazed with him when I hear that song. Great question! Props to you mi amigo.

Hey Dave!
Sounds like the show was Awesome!
My boyfriend absolutely loves you! He just got back from Iraq after 12 months and really wants to go to a show soon before he is deployed back over there...which helps bring up a question:
Before you and Carmen were married, and you were out on tour or away from her for a while how did you guys keep things going smoothly? I'm sure it wasn't hard for you but, it's really hard when my boyfriend is stationed somewhere far away and I can't go with him. So got any advice for us? I'd really appreciate some. =)
Oh and Oct 4th is my guy Robert's birthday! Could you maybe say a Happy Birthday for him. He would be nuts!
Take some good cares,

Great Art everyone, enjoying looking at it. Just in case anyone is curious, mine is the hand with the TPC logo on. That really is my hand, and I used tattoo ink to draw the logo on my hand, and took a photo. It's not photoshop. I don't have photoshop.
I'd love to have it, but I don't. So I 've got to rack my brains for stuff to do without it! :P
(wishing for photoshop)
but I won't be getting it for a while.
Got another family wedding to go to in a few days.
Got to put my dog in kennels. :( not happy about that, he's only one.

Hey Dave,
I know you're probably getting pretty sick of all the requests from the UK and i can understand that it takes alot of time, effort and organisation but please please please bring the show over.
You have so many fans here it's incredible.
Also on Steve's site he did mention that you guys are aware of the fanbase here and that you would be coming over as soon as it's possible.
The other thing i wanted to say was please don't think just because London is the capital it's the show to do. There's an amazing small venue up here in Nottingham called Rock City, (you've played it before with Jane's). Always keep this venue in mind!
Cheers,
Rob

How a thought of seeing Jane's play led me to a whale exploding on my computer...
Thinking of the show >
Thinking of the infamous bow at the end of the gig >
Thinking that the word infamous is often used incorrectly >
Searching for a definition of the word infamous on google (i typed "define:infamous") >
Recieving one poor result >
Searching google normally for the words "the infamous" (including speech marks to see what context it was used in) >
Clicking on the first result titled The Infamous Exploding Whale >
Browsing the site and finding a video of a whale exploding. http://www.perp.com/whale/
What do you think of this site Dave?

Aww, Dave called us his loves.. :0)
DTTAH sounds like it's going to be a great read!
Dave, I am so glad you're in a good place right now in your life. Shine on you crazy diamond!
OHM is definitely underrated. It is the album that got me through a tough time in my life. it came to me at a time I needed something to relate to completely, it was an anchor to keep me centered when I was losing myself. That album holds a special place with me.
Jezzie mentioned "Let's go to Wiltern together on the 23rd"
oh crap, it's OCT 23rd isn't it? I will be out of town that weekend! noooooooooo! :( I'm not even going to mention where I'm going that weekend because everyone will be like "you suck!" lol man, I really wanted to see Camp Freddy... They'll be doing more shows around town eventually i hope i hope..?
have a good day/weekend all!
I will be going down to Laguna beach and visiting friends and reading Scar Tissue.

it seems this family is becoming closer and closer and you know, i didnt think it could get any closer. wow, its amazing, you all are amazing and everyday i look forward to checking in with you all. i truely wish i was closer to you all so we could get together before CF or TPC gigs.

Have a good weekend everyone. Let's see what stories we have to share Monday if any.
Posted by: wendybird at September 24, 2004 05:31 PM
it's so great to hear that courtney love is doing great! she's always been one of my fav female leads (along with shirley manson) and it's sad to see how poorly she's treated in the media. they fail to highlight how nice and mature her daughter is, and how intelligent courtney can be...she makes a lot of sense. it's upsetting to see her mistakes amplified...that's not what people need...but i'm really really glad to hear she's doing well!
and i'm so psyched for the NY camp freddy gig. wheeee! lol...and i agree with the person who was talking about OHM...i think it's HIGHLY underrated. i think it's the most progressive and daring RHCP work to date...i think that's in large part to your influence. great work! you just keep on getting better and better!
much love to all!

Hello Dave, I'd like to say that I like your job as musician and I'd like to ask you something, when you were recording One Hot Minute with the peppers what were you thinking, I mean when you were writting the guitar parts to the musics the things that were passing on your head, cuz the final result was really great, and I never understand why Frusciante don't play One Hot Minute musics, the OHM musics are so true and they have a lot of feeling. And if you have time could you write the gear you used on OHM. Thank you Dave. Keep rockin' !
Hugs from your Brazilian fan,

wendy--yes, my party crashing days are over, I used to crash high school reunions, just for kicks and MEN, but, I crashed my own, and it got pretty ugly
ok, I am going to San Diego then, Brett, I will be in your neck of the woods, boys beware!!
Feeling mighty pensive these days...But I am in the mood for reflection...Fellow 6767 peeps and agents
It would be such a good read if we all posted the story of "How we became fans of Dave" A lot of us have alluded to different events and songs, but it would be interesting to compile an anthology as it were.
what do YOU think?
Posted by: jezebel at September 24, 2004 08:38 PM
Dave,
Sorry but, I have been holding this back for quite some time. You f'ing bailed out hard and weak, and after seeing the show and this whole attempt at distancing yourself from Jane's... is yet another lame attempt at avoiding something you feel you can't control, as if you want to disassociate yourself. However this time my man, you can't blame it on anything or anyone but yourself.
This whole effort to anyone who has half a mind and know what's up should be entirely offended.
You explain yourself as a recoverer who learns from his mistakes and keeps positive and stays focused... horses**t.
You bailed, you f'ed up. Stop it now, face your new egotistical demons and those morons who are guiding you and realize what is up dude, you totally f'ed up.
The only problem is now, your so called friend won't take you back.
I am finally convinced you are gone.

ummm...what's with this dude above me?...dude...it's called respect...buy some on sale for 50 cents and then you can talk. what right do you have to pass judgment on someone who is doing something that seems to make him happy...esp when you have probably done nothing. i'm sorry...it's this kind of attitude that completely irritates and angers me...why take the energy to say something negative when it's so much easier to say something nice? think about that.
and someone above mentioned telling stories of how we became dave fans...well here goes...it was summer of '97 (i was 12) and i had a counselor who was majorly into jane's...listened to it...loooooved it...and then saw a documentary on RHCP (vh1's behind the music and they mentioned dave navarro was guitarist for jane's addiction)...well...i took one look and was like "woah...this dude is talented and hot...awesome!"..then i saw the warped video, and saw dave kiss anthony...thought that was even hotter...and ever since then i've been hooked...lol...that's my very un-interesting story i have for you all.
good night and much love!

Dave report from the New york posts PAGE SIX
September 25, 2004 -- THE reason Dave Navarro fought to stop publication of his new book for a few years is obvious after a glimpse at its shocking portrait of the drug-fueled life he led.
As PAGE SIX reported last week, the Jane's Addiction guitarist, who's married to Carmen Electra, feuded with publisher Judith Regan for two years before finally allowing his own story, "Don't Try This at Home," to come out.
Navarro's co-author, Neil Strauss, writes that he realized Navarro, who was heavily addicted to drugs (and prostitutes) at the time, never thought he'd still be alive when the book was published.
Strauss recounts several raunchy tales from the year he spent hanging out with the rocker. At a party at the Playboy mansion in 1998, Navarro picked up a Playboy Playmate and a Penthouse Pet.
"The Playmate was an argumentative model . . . The drop-dead gorgeous Pet, renamed 'Where's My Purse?' after misplacing her handbag eight times that night, went on to earn herself the honor of being quite possibly the stupidest woman ever to sleep with [Marilyn Manson bassist] Twiggy [Ramirez]. And that says a lot."
On another occasion, Navarro had a date with a woman who came to his house before they went out for the evening. The doorbell rang soon after she arrived; she answered it to find "a very dolled-up prostitute with stiletto heels and a garter belt hanging from the bottom of her skirt," Strauss writes.
"The woman, a former Heidi Fleiss escort, held a bag full of hooker clothes in one hand and doggie biscuits in the other." Then "she proceeded to sit on the couch, pull a crack pipe out of her purse and light it."
Strauss also recounts the night "Manson and Dave spent two hours manipulating a photograph of a scantily clad Courtney Love lying sprawled outside Trent Reznor's hotel room so that they [could] blow up a picture of her [privates] to use as an album cover for Dave's demos."
Then there was the time Leif Garrett came over at 6:30 a.m. to fix a curtain rod in exchange for drugs; the night Rose McGowan "pick[ed] up what she thought was a stack of poker chips only to be told by fiancé Marilyn Manson that it was a [sex toy] a prostitute had given Navarro"; and the time Navarro and Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx ran out of drugs, so they shot up Jack Daniels instead.
Dave I check out Page Six every few days & latley I am wondering how real their info is. How much of what the page six story on you is real compared to false rumor.
Just thought I would go right to the sourcee.....
The book is going to be great.......will prolly take the day off & finish it that same day.
2 your success!
Giovanni Puchetta

Aren't those all excerpts from the book?
I'd expect that just before a book's release anyway!
I can't wait to read it!
But Dave how are you feeling about all this being released in papers, and elsewhere in the media?

Hey All
I'm afraid i'm going to comment on Way Peed Off and some of the other people whove posted dis-respectful things here.
Whats up with them, are they pissed because J.A. is no more, blaming Dave ain't gonna bring them back,
My understanding of where Dave's at now is deal with the past, learn from it,leave it in the past and look forward.Same can be said for these people.
And as for those sayin' Dave's lost his touch,BULLSHIT
The music that TCP is creating are still probably works in process,it will most likely be tweaked and refined during the recording of the album,i think it was Molly who dissed the new stuff BEFORE SHE'S EVEN HEARD IT!
You want Jane's then put on a Jane's cd,you want 3 Day's,you've already got it.
Still i guess everyone's entitled to they're opinion.
I'll waste no more space on this.

ok, im gonna make an observation here,
Dave, when i first started listening to you throught OHM, your image and persona came across very dark, sad and reclused. i eventually realised that it was probably the effect the drugs had on you. you always seemed very morbid and truelly sad, but lately(the past 4 years or so) your persona and your personality that we(the audience/fans) perceive has been much brighter and happier. and frankly i dont think it has to do as much with you not been on drugs anymore as it has to do with you having carmen in your life. iv noticed that ever since youve been with carmen your whole persona has changed, youve become more 'radient' in a sense. i think that carmen means more to you than anyone will ever know. you seem truely happy...
now, i could be talking out my ass, but its just something that i have perceived and the changes i have noticed since i first started listening to your works. i dont know if the family or anyone in fact agrees with me but its just something i wanted to say because its thats what i felt/perceived. im also sorry if i have made afew spelling mistakes, im still hungover from lastnight, lol
Dave, thank you for your music and you inspiration!
i think i just went and got alittle soppy but i just wanted to say thanks.

Dave,do you ever feel an obligation to create music that appeals to the masses, fans of your previous work and so on.
I think i know the answer to this already.

I have a question kinda based on the non-supportive posts that have appeared here
Dave,do you ever feel an obligation to create music that appeals to the masses, fans of your previous work and so on.
I think i know the answer to this already.

Hey All,
Love the Crop circle art,I did say when I saw the Pc Logo that it would make a great crop circle and well Mark you proved me right :)
I was just wondering Dave do you have the backing of a record company for the Panic Channel or are you guys all doing this out of your own pockets at the moment?
I can't wait to hear what you've been upto.
Remember the old saying "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone"
Enough said.
Well Dave & Fam have a lovely weekend,
Kirsty x

That is so cool that you are working with Courtney Love! I just wish I was in California to see this Camp Freddy show - my 2 favourite rock stars on stage at the same time!!!!

Jezebel - your request granted...how we got into Dave...
My interest in Dave, shallowly so, came because he looked eerily like my ex husband. I was facinated with the similarities. I honestly had not heard of Jane's Addiction, besides Been Caught Stealin', prior to everyone telling me he looked and reminded them of Dave Navarro from from JA. So I had to research and find out who this person was and I was utterly speechless. The similarities were undeniable and quite scary really.
My ex husband was very into JA, and he used to make me tapes for my car w/JA's music. We danced to Summertime Rolls at our wedding. Prior to our split, I started to read more and research more about Dave. Besides their appearances, they had other things in common: drug abuse, tortured existence, even an experience with a family member being killed in front of their eyes (my ex husband's father was killed in front of him). It was just weird.
My ex husband and I split and divorced, (the drug use wore me down), and his story didn't end as well as Dave's. He's currently serving a sentence in a federal prison. He's hard and he's sad and he's unrepentant. He still does not see that he could have made any other choice but the ones he made that put him there.
My facination with Dave started with the eerie similarities to my husband, and my desire to find some understanding about my husband's choices through another. As time as passed, my appreciation deepended for Dave's talent. But my love of Dave today is for the amazing breakthrough he made..I'm just so happy to see that he had found peace. I guess this is a bit of misplaced hope for something that my ex never achieved. It doesn't matter. My appreciation and love of Dave stands on its own today.
So that's it.

Aimee,
I had to step away from my pc while reading your story..
I empathize totally...The two men in my life, my friend and a lover, are both into jane's, and i truly never paid any attention to dave's input, I was really into the drums on Jane Says, and the vocals on that song with the dog barking, I would drop everything and dance whenever I heard it!
anyway, that's my chapter one...
Aimee, that line about hope for something your ex never achieved....that went straight to my heart
Hope baby, hope dies a long, hard death, you got to let them go to have their own...don't ever let them take yours.

hey hey. very cool. and I think that's pretty good because, well... I dunno, the impression I get is that everyone from around the 60s to the 80s, 90s, was like, 'oh I need drugs to write good music', so.. that's pretty cool. (:
