CF/NASCAR

panicchannelHello friends. Today, there will be no Camp Freddy Radio, as we are headed out to NASCAR to do a gig. I think that the station is going to repeat a broadcast from a while ago. Hopefully, I can get some video up from the day's event.

1. Dave, now that you are drug free, how is it hanging around with people that are still using?

Well, most stuff doesn't bother me, like drinking or smoking, but if a needle ever came out, I would definitely remove myself from wherever I was.

2. Dave... Do you have a favorite brand of guitar picks and/or strings?

Not really. In fact, I know I use 9's and medium picks, but I have no idea what kind.

3. Dave, do you use MAC for recording, like studio, what are the program do you run in this machine?

I don't use any audio software at home, but in the studio, we are all about the MAC.

4. Do you ever come up with a riff and decide "this is specifically for my solo project" or "this is for the band"?

No, I just focus on what is at hand. Right now, everything I come up with is Panic material.

5. Do you keep fish? Or any other aquatic animal?

We ain't got no fish!

6. I noticed you have marked the "She Won't Last" clip as copyrighted. What's the difference (legally, I guess?) between it and the other videos/music you have posted?

No difference, they are all copyrighted. I just forgot!

7. Will you be hitting any clubs after your set? Need any suggestions?

I don't think so, but thank you anyway.

8. When you write lyrics for a song do you write about a specific event/topic, or do you write down poetry that eventually turns into a song?

For me, lyrics come while writing the music.

9. Does Carmen support all of your tattoos, or when you show her something new does se every give you the “another one?!? speech?

She loves them. She is in full support.

10. Hey Dave, I was just wondering if Camp Freddy was gonna work with some DJs like Mix Master Mike, DJ Lethal, or the X-ecutioners?

I would love that and have suggested it, but I think the majority of the guys want to keep it "straight rock".

I'm out...

Hey Dave, when you get ink, do they do it for free because you're Dave Navarro? Also, any more info on a possible PRS Navarro model?

Hey Dave, Um have you ever thought about doing a Cd or writing a book with Carmen? Would you do something like that? And do record companies actually take and listen to demo tapes and do something with them? Sorry for all the questions... but have fun todayy, take advantage and have no regrets. bye!

Quick question here: You said that you are friend with Gavin, so you like his band Bush? If so, fave song? I am asking this because Bush is my favorite band and Letting the cables sleep my #1 of all time.

dear Dave, and everyone hangin here

I am officially launching my webpage today, after months of stumbling and failure trying to present my spirit in this medium. (click on my name at the bottom)

Im posting it here primarily in homage to being inspired by great music/musicians...and Dave is up there amongst my humble little top ten list of brilliant musicians whose playing has spoken to me emotionally and inspired me my in my life to 'maintain' through my creative struggles.

Jane's was a very important part of my life in the late 80's and early 90's- always in my headphones, ...and I was fortunate enough to see them back then in Vancouver. There are rare moments of 'full-body-vibration' in life, and that night was one of them.

thanks Dave!
and to everyone here who feels the same way I do, i hope you enjoy my work.

peace, love,
RSM

You said Ritual De Lo Habitual was your fav Jane's album, well I was just wondering, is there a Jane's song that you didn't like for some reason or another?

hey dave,

i was wandering do you ever feel like some part of your music or lyrics should stay "only yours"?, or do you feel the need to share all of it ,for the sake of art?

Posted by: moonchild at September 4, 2004 01:58 PM

Hi Dave. I am a newcomer to your bad ass blog. it's fucking great. what happened with the art on "Strays" - the art that got released on the album wasn't the original art (so i hear) - so, um, is there a story to go with it?

Posted by: corey at September 4, 2004 03:03 PM

i'm not going to be here for a while...i miss it a lot...i'm going to have withdrawal...i'll try to check in as often as possible...much love to the family

Hey Dave have fun at the gig tonight, I hope you've got some cool stuff to share when you get back.

to Jess, record companys don't listen to demos that are sent in, (except for a few small co) they just send them back unopened. they get thousands everyday. you might check out starpolish.com they've got lots of great advice and ideas for making your self stand out, and people to contact to help you along the way. In the end, these days it's all about the buzz.

it's a little after 8:00 pm here in orlando. the storm has slowed down so we may be able to keep power for a little longer. there has already been some damage to a building next to ours, (I live in a townhouse) so keep the prayers and good vibes coming, so far so good. I'll check back in if I can later. best whishes to everyone in the path of the storm.

Hey everyone

I'm having a low time right now.
I can't seem to get over someone i truly loved. She dumped me in a real cold hearted way over a year ago.
I have such hatered towards her but i still love her too.i'ts messing my head up.
I thought i was over it,but i've just had a conversation with a friend whose ex has just shown up and tried to get in contact with him(she's in trouble).
this has opened up some wounds of mine that probably will never heal.I've put up barriers that is stopping my current relationship from blosseming.I'm scared of being hurt again.Last year i just wanted to stop living because i didn't want to live the rest of my life without this girl i loved completely.
I know this girl doesn't give a shit about me or my happiness or my well being.
I hate myself for still having feelings for her.
I wish i'd never met her,i wish i'd never let her be a part of my life.I'm sick of thinking about her.
I'm sorry for this post

Hey, this is gonna be long but forgive me. I didn't know you had 6767.com back up!

I HAVE the Rene picture! Well, at least the photobooth one. I have several of the photobooths honestly. The set Twig/Jeordie did, the Zim ones, and that girl from Fanatic... plus I have the AngelPhaze.qt you did with Zim in the wigs. That was a classic! I nearly lost it, but a friend saved it. You know, now I need to check all my files. If there's anything you want back, just let me know.

Thank you for putting The Bed up. I've wanted to buy the Japanese import of TNO, but never have the cash. I still will, but now I have the song!

Speaking of Zim, do you still speak to him? Mandy (his ex, whom I'm also friends with) said Zim's grandmother died recently, and he was taking it pretty hard. I don't know if Mandy's still in contact with him, but it was more of a grapevine about her death.

A question bugging me for a long time now: did Jeordie do the bass on Everything?

I'm glad to see you back, happy and healthy!

Hiya Dave :)

I was wondering if you're familiar with Flea's Silverlake Conservatory of Music music school and if he's ever asked you to come in and give a few lessons to the students?

P.S. I've got a dear friend in Florida and I hope she and everyone else makes it through the storm ok.

Lots of Love

Have you ever suffered an addiction to narcotic painkillers at any point and time or only heroin? And if so, how difficult was it for you to wean yourself off? What was it like detoxing from heroin?

Hey-
I remember not too long ago a bunch of people talking about dreams they had had with Dave in them. Well I guess it's about time I join the club. I had a dream with Dave in it and basically he was just a really nice friend. Do any of you dream interpreters happen to know what a lot of dreams about fish could mean? Like tropical fish. Any help would be appreciated.

Dave what is your little dog's name? I forget, but I thought he or she was very cute on TDDUP! Was that a dog that you or Carmen had before you met, or did you get the dog after you were together?

Steve L - I'm really sorry you're hurting so much....I hope you find some way to understand that this person does not deserve to have you waste so much energy on her....you deserve to be happy and obviously, she was not your soul mate. Please love yourself enough to allow yourself to find happiness. (((hugs)))

Florida peeps...I'm hoping the worst blows right by you...hang in there.

Dave - hope you had a great show!

Posted by: Cori at September 4, 2004 11:48 PM

hi dave,

what a great blog you have!

in The Gift theres a scene of Perry on the phone saying that you guys had pretty much recorded "Three Days" in the first take.

that was a joke, right?

Posted by: tony at September 5, 2004 12:01 AM

Hey again everyone! Just checking in again on the way to bed. :)

Steve L... Cori's right, bro. I'm really sorry you're hurting so much, too. I just hope you'll find a way to stop hating yourself for how you feel... you're human... you can't turn your feelings off and on like a light. Experience it, work through it, learn from it and then move on, man. Your real soulmate just might be in your life already, but you have to take the chance to find out. Good luck and lots of hugs, bro.

Tony... don't know if that's true about 3 Days, but it is possible to get it in the first take. There have been a few artists who were legendary for doing that... Karen Carpenter comes to mind, in fact... nailed the song "Superstar" in one take, reading the lyrics off a cocktail napkin, and that wasn't the only one she got in first take, either.

I'm going to bed now. If I get there in less than ten minutes, I can say I was in bed before 4AM. LOL

Love and respect to Dave and the Family... positive vibes for those dealing with the hurricane.

Peace,
Tim/Panic Agent Nitewing

Dave,

Thanks for answering my question. It's really cool that you keep in contact with your fans like this. Just back from seeing Jurassic 5 last night. Not usually that interested in hip-hop but I can truly say it's one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

Got thinking about your new project and was wondering, of all the songs the Panic Channel are currently working on which is your favourite? For what reason? Thanks.

Top 5 gigs:
1. Twilight Singers, Dublin 2004
2. At the Drive-In, Dublin 2001
3. Nine Inch Nails, Glastonbury 2000
4. Jurassic 5, Electric Picnic 2004
5. Super Furry Animals, Witnness 2000

Kirsty~ Congrats on becoming an aunt :)
You know, you have the same name as me, only I spell it with an 'i' instad of a 'y'.
You know how they put your name on the coffee at Starbucks? Well every time I went there in LA, no one could figure my name out, and even though I spelled it out for them they always got it wrong :p
Ah well..

Dave~ I've been meaning to ask you about the dog too (like Krista did before), since I recall you once saying you were not much of a pet person. Do you consider yourself a pet person these days?

Hope everyone down in Florida are doing okay!

Have a nice one, people.

Hi Dave

While picking-up my girlfriend at Zurich airport, I met Matt Sorum, who was on the same flight as her and on his way to a gig near Zurich. He was so absolutely cool and nice to put us on the guest-list for the VR-concert the same night!
Would be great to see him and you with Camp Freddy in Europe some time!

Cheers and take care

Dave Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

dave, just wondering if you ever read metal sludge or blabbermouth.net for gossip and stuff... and would you ever consider doing '20 questions' w/the sludge???

keep up the music, peace.

Dave,

Have fun at the NASCAR event. I will be weathering the effects of our second hurricane in 3 weeks, with a third due next weekend. Yes, Florida is a swamp!

Question: How would you feel about of re-mixes of your solo material? I would like to take a crack at it and will be happy to send you any finished tracks via the Panic Agency for your approval.

Morning Dave and everyone...

I survived the reunion, and had a really good time, a nice little suprise were some guys that I went to school with telling me how great I look. I wasn't expecting that, but it made me feel really good...

So guys when you go to a reunion, please tell the girls how great they look, it's amazing how uplifting it is, even though it's vain...I did return the favor as well...

:)

Just sending my prayers and love to those in Florida and hope everyone is safe and no harm is done.

Tony...I believe it's actually true about Three Days being done in one take...it's been mentioned several times, esp in the August 2003 Spin article. I actually think it's true and if it is...that must be why the song is so amazing. it would be nice to get confirmation on that, but according to dave in the said Spin article, he only has about a 5 minute memory of RDLH. oh well...one of those mysteries of life.

damn computers...mine's still broken...i'm just home and using my home one. it's all good.

Hey Dave!
Love your stuff. Your solo CD was really good and didn't get the attention it deserved. Still waiting for your book and can't wait for that. It seems that your plate is REALLY full right now with the Camp Freddy thing, your new band with Steve, and the whole newlywed thing (congrats BTW) So can I expect a whole ton of Dave Navarro stuff in the near future?
My question to you is who are your TOP 5 Guitarists?
And if you don't mind what do you think of JEFF BECK. I have an ongoing list of comments about him from other famous guitarists.

Posted by: Teener at September 5, 2004 09:28 AM

wow, thanks for using my picture for todays post, i near shat myself when i saw it. good to hear you're a fan of the office, you have to see ricky gervais' 'animals' dvd if you can. its fantastic.

have a nice gig, don't rock NASCAR too hard

I have a question is it true Carmen is gonna be in a movie with a SUM41 guy. If so, why don't you try to get a cameo in it or something, that would be cool huh?

Posted by: Tony at September 5, 2004 10:15 AM

Dave, did Jerry Cantrell and Billy Duffy make it to the Nascar show? Those two with you guys had to have been a dream jam! If all of you ever feel the need to head south head to Memphis! Just curious as I'm clueless about the promotion and touring biz, but what exactly would it take to make that happen? Who talks to who and decides what venues to play? In fact if any other family members more familiar with that stuff have some answers or ideas I'd appreciate it. Seems we get less and less good shows here in Memphis so I'm tempted to turn amateur promoter and try and get it done myself. Too ambitious?

Posted by: Trav at September 5, 2004 10:40 AM

Hey Dave,

Just been watching your instructional DVD, yeah, I know you don't like em, but I got it anyways!

Did you have your white PRS at that time cos I didn't see it shown, and was that big guy with the 'Yes, Sir Mr Navarro' t-shirt really your guitar tech. it looked so put on, the whole thing, but bloody hilarious at the same time.

Posted by: Karl at September 5, 2004 10:54 AM

heLLo,

Karl, about the white prs, if im correct, the instr Vids were done durin the RHCP era. So the prs are missin coz Dave was usin mainly the Fender Strats (and Parker Fly wiv Piezo, Great guitar btw!) to get a "more RHCP sound". The PRS beein too heavy for a RHCP sound, that wasn really appropriated. Thats mainly why u dont really see any prs there..

Hope this helps..

Hello dave.
Hello everybody.

I've good and bad news
the bad news is that I couldn't return to my country because of the hurricane and there was no power to communicate with you guys.the good news is that tomorrow I return to Dominican Republic.these days in Florida have been crazy with the hurricane and lots of rain.

The best thing that happened to me these days was that I had a dream with you Dave. You were in my country giving a concert and you said "Hello" to me in front of everybody and you hugged me.I was sooooo happy in my dream that it seemed so real and I didn't want to wake up.I would give my life to see that happen one day.

love for everybody
