Animal Avengers
Today I am going to go and play Blackjack. You know, that "favorite casino game". Hopefully I will do well, but I'll be honest, I am the world's worst Blackjack player. It's a charity event so I am sure it will be fun. I am doing it as a favor to my friends Joe Reitman and Shannon Elizabeth. They have founded an organization called Animal Avengers. They help protect and save animals from being put to sleep and place them in a loving home. Anything I might win will go to that cause. (Fingers crossed.)
1. I also wanted to ask if you have told friends/musical peers about the online collaboration going on here and what their thoughts on it are?
They love it. I have heard nothing but positive feedback.
2. Are you only playing TPC songs at the upcoming show?
Yeah, it will be all TPC. The set is about 40 minutes.
3. Also, are your sure you went traditional with the wedding? 'Cause I remember the priestess or whoever she was mentioning the five elememnts and the Goddess... *shrugs*
Well, as traditional as we get anyway.
4. But, must admit, finally in public, my strange but serious attraction to.......Toby?
I totally get it.
5. tell me, would it be a faux pas to wear it (CF T shirt) to TPC show???
Not at all.
6. What Cd is in your car stereo right now?
Dr. Dre - The Chronic
7. Dave, since you went to Nascar and experienced it, what do you think the attraction to it is?
I'm still not sure. It was way too hot to figure it out, but we did have fun.
8. just wondered what you think of when you listen to TNO. some of the themes in songs such as rexall have changed completly since you met carmen. thanks. much love, VIF
I still love the record, it documents a time. I have moved through a lot of those feelings and I think the process of making the record was part of how I did.
9. I am starting to think the guys from Buckcherry are not some of your fave people.
Actually, I just don't know any of them apart from Josh.
10. Check out the Doheny video if you haven't. It is really great!
Peace,
Dave

Good Morning Dave and Family....good luck today Dave...that is a very good cause.
Today is shaping up to be really rough for me. My Mom passed away one year ago today. I kept telling myself, right up until yesterday even, that I was not going to acknowledge this day...I was going to let it pass like any other day, because I did not want to lend credence to the day we lost her. I guess that was really naive because it hit like a ton of bricks this morning and seems to be all I can think about.
I am thankful to be able to come here and get this off my chest. In my family, I am the strong one (imagine that!) I am the one who takes care of everyone else...I will be very busy today trying to put on a brave, positive face for my Dad and Sister, while my heart is very heavy on the inside.
Thank you, Community, for giving me a safe place to come and vent.

Best of luck with BlackJack Dave - and remember - most dealers stand on 17 - I think?
I think you are playing for an excellent cause. I have several cats I have "rescued" and they are all as sweet as can be. Bob Barker would be very proud of you, and as Bob would say, "Help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered." I always wanted to be a Barker's Beauty!
You are right jezebel - Sugarloaf did green eyed lady. The Guess Who did "these eyes." Big difference! Thanks for the correction, I obvoiusly have not had enough coffee today!

Hey Dave,
I was just wondering- what are some of your ultimate albums? I know you've talked about different bands you really dig, but what are some of the albums or even songs you feel really spoke to you at a given moment in time or really helped you get through difficult experiences? Mine range anywhere from RHCP "One Hot Minute" to Radio Delilah! HAHAHA But I was hoping you might be able to shed some light on what music has helped you or currently does?
Thanks!

Cori... Major hugs to you!
Anthony... much love to you bro! Hope things are looking up for you.
About eye color... mine are hazel, but tend to look either blue or gray. Most people freak out when they're looking more gray, so I got some blue contacts and some clear ones. Guess I like to keep 'em guessing. LOL
I'm outta here... gotta finish my coffee and get back to the moving/packing process.

Hello everyone. Good luck Dave. Kick some a**!
To Cori, I know it's hard for you today. Just try and stay strong. Remember its ok to cry and to remember her by making the day positive by thinking about the good times. I know that sounds cheesy but it helps. And props to you for comming here to let if off your chest. Its good to talk and let it out. Take care.
And to UteroiD, congrats! 10 years here, right on! Take care everyone, I wish all of you peace and joy. One love. -CC aka Agent Sassy

Hi Dave,
Good Luck at the Black Jack event. Shannon E is such a sweet person, nice to hear you are friends.
Btw, I keep forgetting to ask.....Is there any chance that Camp Freddy will appear on 'Conan' when you guys hit NYC?
I realise that most bands appearing on any of those talk shows usually have an album out to promote. I know for a fact that Conan loves to showcase new bands & he did enjoy having you on when you were out touring with TNO.
take care,

Cori-Peace and love to you today. Im so sorry. I've been there. I lost my mom almost 3 yrs ago to breast cancer, and I miss her EVERY Day. You think you will never think about anything else again, but you will and more importantly, it's OK to do that.
I love that Dave is starting to consider animal-rights support, one of my favorite causes. I knew everyone here would be happy about that-we're a warm and fuzzy bunch.

Did you happen to be reading Kerrang Sonic, cos I saw Mike got a brillinat review in their. 5 K's. whoa!
Where was it they did pick your all time fave people to make up your own band, MTV.co.uk? somewhere like that last year...Guess who I put?
The fun one was who would you have as your all around "whipping boy/post" or whatever.
I wierdly put Adam Ant, well it was the whip thing.

Thanks for answering my question fam. I’m glad to see that I wasn’t the only one getting the August calendar. I’m so used to updated info that it threw me for a loop.
In other news dir you guys know that Sunday is national talk like a Pirrrate day? I think this is too much info but I’m fascinated with pirate talk/stuff. I even made myself a custom eye patch. Even though my friends think I’m a retard it really is lovely. I even convinced some of them to dress up like a pirate with me on Halloween. Just a small suggestion here Dave, maybe you can incorporate some pirate talk in Camp Freddy Radio. Thar would be arwesome. By the way I suck at tarking like a pirrrate. Arr

Seeee, Tex, what's not to love about Toby!!
Cori- sweet girl, I can totally relate to you. My mom died almost three years ago. I was the one that kept everything inside..the one that packed up the contents of her house, stored her material memories in my garage while family members battled each other for every meaningless trinket. (The things you own...) I didn't even really get along with her that much, so it's really surprising how much I miss her. You go through these weird stages, the first year was all about the getting through, the second you start to let a little emotion in, now, I just look at my boy and cry sometimes because I realize how much she loved HIM.
You need to allow yourself to go to whatever safe place feels right for you to express your emotion. Here is good. People are nice here. You are such a strong girl, let yourself not be sometimes.
ok, Cd in my car stereo right now, Jars of Clay- Tweed- the positive alternative..I'm such the geek..Last night it was Genius Loves Company, but as soon as son gets in car, it'll be...now do the rockaway, now lean back, lean back....

hey all, I love cats (dogs are scary...)I've got a cat, arie, but i think he's gonna die soon cause he has 4 weird legs and he can't keep his food inside....o, and he's getting old, he's as old as I am, 18.. (but my b day is at the end of this month, whoehoe!)
"What Cd is in your stereo right now?" Raw Power; Iggy and the stooges!! just to scream and sing as loud as I want at my self in the mirror is great. (I get the same feeling with The Sound Of Music......) dave, what do you think of that record?
I have to get up early tomorrow, almost bedtime. so take care

Hi Cori,
I can relate, my favorite aunt passed away in April. She was my dad's eldest sister, she would have been 87 in May. She became the matriarch of the family because my grandmother had died when I was a small child, all the grandchildren saw her as the grandma.
My aunt always kept the family together during the bad times & silly family arguments over the years, she was there for everyone. Always trying to keep the peace.
I will miss her youthful spirit, great sense of humour & love of life. Funny enough, she even knew who Dave & Carmen were! She really kept up on things!!
She had taken ill around 3 years ago & got worse. A cousin said at the wake; "Just remember all the good, fun times." And there were many.
Cori, I will pass that on to you, remember all the good times....all the joy & love your mom brought to you & your family. I find that really helps with the grieving process.
Take care,
itanja

when i was about 9 years old I had a friend, she lived across the street. she needed a new liver. the first one she got had no effect, just like and the second one. but the third one did, accept that it was too late for her and a short time after the third donorliver she past away. all I can remember of the last days I played with her at the street, is that her face was yellow. that scared me, and me and another girl didn't realize she was ill so we weren't that nice to her. she was a really sweet girl and even when she got ill she was always full of energy and making jokes. the funeral was beautiful, the small church was filled with drawings made by her classmates and friends and they played 'mama' of the Spice Girls.
she was a sweet girl.
goodnight all, emma

Hey, everyone, check out the Animal Avenger Gear link at the site. There is an autographed poster of Shannon with MY dog!!!
ok, well, it's not MY dog, but it could be. I have never seen another dog that looks so much like mine, except my Scrappy has a broken ear that is perenially flopped over, adding immeasureably to his charm!
I adopted him two years ago at a no-kill shelter in Yucaipa. Acres of hilly grass for these dogs to play and romp on, a meet and greet room, with a couch and soft music, so we could get to know Scrappy ( His name was Josh at the shelter, after one of the employee's boyfriends, he became Scrappy as soon as he jumped on the couch beside me)
He loves my boy, is a fierce protector, but a pushover for attention, much like his owner, I take him to school often, since I teach in a neighborhood where the only dogs allowed are either tiny chihuahuas or huge guard beasts, 750 kids chasing my dog through the schoolyard, and he loves every minute of it
Thanks Dave, for bringing this site to my attention, off I go to by some Avenger underroos!!

Hi Cori,
My heart goes out to you and all I can say is be strong and remember everything that made you love your Mom so much.
Hi Emma,
I hope Arie continues to have a long and happy life. I too love cats and had 2 adopted cats, which I had for many years (Beso was 18, and Abby was 15). After they both passed away, my husband and I couldn't stand not having any cats in the house, so we went to several shelters and adopted the oldest and sickliest ones they had. We have now rescued 7 cats! They are all happy and healthy girls, and get along like peas and carrots (as Forrest Gump would say!). I must admit, I will never be crazy enough to have 7 cats again, but Josie (named after Josie and the pussycats), Trixie (from the Honeymooners), Rain (cause she's gray), Sunny (she's my bright ray of sunshine - actually she's a pain in the ass - but still sweet), Lily (just liked the name), Clarabelle (big, goofy Maine Coon-cat), and Gilda (for Gilda Radner)are much better off with me than living in a cage. Thanks again Dave, we hope you all win big!
CD playing in my car right now is the July 30th Tweeter Center show from The Dead (purchased legally, of course, from the show).

Always bring a table cheese to room temperature before serving it--the flavor is much better.
Younger cheeses tend to be mild, soft, and moist. As cheeses age, they become more pungent, hard, and crumbly.
Many cheeses become rubbery when cooked too long or at too high a temperature. If you plan to cook with a cheese, select a heat-tolerant one like mozzarella or Emmental.
It's usually best to keep cheese in its original packaging. If the cheese has been cut, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap to hold in the moisture. If it hasn't been cut, wrap it first with waxed paper and then with plastic wrap--this allows the cheese to breathe.
Store cheese near the bottom of the refrigerator, where temperature fluctuations are minimal.
Harder cheeses have a longer shelf life than soft, moist ones.
Don't freeze cheese--it ruins the flavor.
Just as you'd ask your fishmonger "What's fresh today?" ask your cheesemonger "What's ripe today?"
Under-ripe cheeses haven't fully developed their flavor, while overripe cheeses become acidic and unpleasantly pungent. Some overripe cheeses develop a strong ammonia smell.
If a small amount of mold forms on the surface of the cheese, cut it off along with a half an inch of cheese on all sides of it. If there's a lot of mold, throw the cheese out.
Many lactose-intolerant people find that they can tolerate low-lactose cheeses like cream cheese, cottage cheese, Mozzarella, and Provolone.
Don't serve cheese with citrus or tropical fruits.
Cheese is usually made with pasteurized milk, which has been heated to remove harmful bacteria. Unfortunately, pasteurization also destroys friendly bacteria and enzymes, though some of these can be added back artificially once the milk is pasteurized. Some producers insist on making cheese with raw (unpasteurized) milk, believing that this gives their cheese richer microflora and better flavor and textures.
yours truly,
CHEEZEE
Posted by: skot at September 15, 2004 02:36 PM
for sheezee, my neezee, how cheesy!
Do you know Bubba?
There are many ways to serve cheese, you can broil it, fry it, parboil it, you can braise it...
there's cheese gumbo, cheese jambalaya, cheese paella,
there's cajun cheese, lemon-pepper cheese
me, I like the moon, it's made of green cheese

The Pirate Day thing, that is a coincidence, I have been teasing my man that I am going to make him an eye-patch with The Panic Channel Logo sewn on it, so he can wear it like a pirate. Of course, Kill Bill was somewhat of an inspiration for that, but I also like pirates too, and also coincidentally Adam Ant did, maybe he still does. :D I was at the concert in NYC on Pier (forgot the number) when Adam and The Ants sailed up to the concert in a ship flying the Jolly Roger.
I have been so moved by all the beautiful posts today, hugs to all of you. Itanja your post was so moving, and so was yours Emma. And Jezebel so was your post.

This panicy chanel thing seems to be something your doing purely for fun, like the guitar cameos and the reality tv series etc, and i just wondered if you think that you will ever want or even be able to create and perform music in a more artistic way, regardless of if its successful or acclaimed or challenging to make? Do you think you peaked creativly with Ritual and will you ever attemt to surpass it or are you completly furfilled doing things just for fun?

Needless, to say, I am a huge fan.
Now, was that your red strat with Usher? You don't seem much like a red guitar sorta guy?
Next, I recently got a wah pedal. I think you're a wah master and I thought I would take this opportunity to get some advise. What is your method? I hear it working but don't know exactly how to get your vibe... do you rock it in time or as you bend or when you hit a string or ...?

for all the NY-ers going to the camp freddy show...i think we should all wear 6767 name tags lol...so we can identify each other. i think that would be so funny and cute. we should hold up signs too...so dave can know there's 6767 support in the audience. just a cute, kitschy suggestion :-)

Hang in there Cori, I can relate. Four years have passed since I lost my Dad. Every year on that day, I get through it by trying to do something positive. The first year, I spent the day with my Mom, and on our travels we spontaneously walked into a tattoo parlor, and I got the Japanese symbol for "Father" tattooed on the back of my shoulder. Just a reminder that he'll always be "watching over my shoulder" and he's "got my back." Another year I got pregnant with my daughter which turned the focus on loss to a focus on life. I find comfort in doing positive things to balance life's negatives. You mentioned that you have to be the strong one to take care of your family. That's putting a pretty big burden on yourself, hey, you've got to feel too! Why not be strong together and take care of each other?
However you choose to spend the day, I wish you peace and good memories.
Spreading the love,
Deena

R.I.P.....Johnny Ramone.
Chuck Scarborough just announced that Johnny died in his sleep at his Los Angeles home. Chuck said Johnny had been battling prostate cancer for 3 years.

Dave!
Someone mentioned a mailing list somewhere in the last couple of posts/comments. Where is the signup for this located? What kind of information is being sent from there?
Thanks,

Here's an article about Johnny Ramone.
I'm feeling sad.
Posted by: culculun at September 15, 2004 09:58 PM
dave, i was wondering how you felt about the awesome new cure record? did you see any of their recent shows?
Posted by: flicker at September 15, 2004 11:27 PM
yeah itanja, i heard on the news tonight.
As i posted before, i was at the Ramone's bash Sunday.
Rob Zombie read a letter Johnny wrote to the audience and called him since he was real ill and couldn't be there. We chanted "Hey, ho, let's go!" to him. He said "Rob, you're holding up the show."
The letter seems like a goodbye letter now.

Dave-I was wondering, when you play with CF,or TPC do you use a tech,or do you load your own gear?
Posted by: chaos at September 16, 2004 12:59 AM
Dave, how do you feel about Joey's death?
Posted by: Fleuri at September 16, 2004 01:40 AM
Hey Dave, Hey People
Thoughts still out there with you Cori x (give yourself time)
ON the pet front, this morning I am phoning Cats Protection League, to get us a couple of furballs...
...the best suggestion I have for names at the moment is..."Derek and Clive" (does anyone get that?) which I'm thinking is pretty funny.
Dave, a band local to me try to retain total control over stuff like merchandising, technical stuff, distribution, bookings etc as possible. They are pretty well known, and have always had the ethic to keep "close" to their fans. Do you think it's a good thing to keep this tight control or are you happy to reliquish the responsability? (I guess in terms of TPC...)(now wondering if my question makes sense :S)
Thanks....off to play with kittens! (not very rockandroll)
Have a good day all

Maria~I think "Scar Tissue" has been officially released.
I also recalled you had been at the Ramones benefit, and read about that phone call, that phone call part made me feel quite sad.
It's just my best friend and I, played The Ramones records everyday. I think I was about 13/14 then. We were mad on them.

Yes, Scar Tissue, you can get in 24 hours from amazon, so it's out.
Also, I just found out amazon started a new search engine A9.com
It works really well, so far, I only did one search as yet:
http://a9.com/dave%20navarro
you get links and images on same page, which is excellent.

aj---go to Panic Channel site, look at bottom of screen, left hand side is email, right hand side lets you join mailing list
maria-- I preordered DTTAH at White Pony's site, amazon says expected release date is 10/4, my expected arrival is 10/8. I am hoping to have it in hand before expected book signing on the 12th at Universal City Walk's Musicland, trusting that I have the right info on that
Freak---in the words of Randy Jackson....DAWG--get me my agent info!!! would like to be official before TPC show, need those street creds, YO!
Reckless- thanks for the email this morning--another soul sista! Derek? Clive? I am SO out of the loop
Shout outs for Shawna!!
ok, where's my cup of joe?
Posted by: jezebel at September 16, 2004 05:49 AM
jezzi's question of the day: I read in one of your previous posts that you considered your 8th grade lit teacher one of your role models. Could you elaborate a bit on that? What was it about her, was it the content of the class, or the way she treated her students?
When I first found out I was going to be teaching 3rd grade, my brother expressed to me his personal belief that was where a child's battle with education was won or lost...Multiplication, Cursive, FRACTIONS....either could make 'em or break 'em
No pressure, my personal philosophy is to make sure they feel valued, oh, and that they learn to love the written word.
Wait, was there a question in here?
How about the rest of my comrades? Who was your favorite teacher? and the one you HATED?
Posted by: jezebel at September 16, 2004 06:30 AM
hi all,
which Ramones' album do you think is the best?

Good Morning Dave and Family!
I am so touched and overwhelmed by all of your kind words and thoughtfulness....really just so overwhelmed, I can't thank you enough...you all truly helped lift my spirits on a very awful day.
I must say, I am surprised at how emotional I got yesterday...it's not like I didn't know it was coming. I went to the cemetary after work to take some beautiful roses to my Mom. I sat down and had a nice long "chat" with her and started to feel a bit better....then the sprinklers came on and I was drenched! I thought it was hysterical and I'm quite sure Mom did too! ;)
Shawna...I'm sending you a big hug...I hope no one ever feels lonely here, of all places.
Thanks again peeps...you are all such very special people and I really, really appreciate this "Family".
Have a peaceful day :)

Hello again,
It's a really horrible day over here today - pissing rain and grey skies. Oh well, it's nearly over and I'll be off down the pub fairly soon to watch some football on TV. I'm sure you're all delighted to hear that!
I've got a short question. Of all the songs that Panic are currently working on which is your favourite?
PS - Yesterdays artwork rocked!
United By Fate by Rival Schools is on my car stereo
