"Vegas, Baby!"
Good morning. I am off today for Vegas to tape the next season of CPS. I am playing this time for Cure Autism Now. Obviously, I will be out for this week's Camp Freddy Radio, but I know that Donovan and Billy will have a killer show for you. I will be away from my computer for a couple of days but I will check in and read up on what's going on via Sidekick. I love what's going on here. You guys rule!
1. Do you know or ever played with local LA guy Coyote Shivers? Also ever done anything with Shifty formerly of CrazyTown? I have met him a few times & he mentioned he likes how you rip shit up.
I know them both but only Shifty has joined Camp Freddy for a version of The Clash's Should I Stay.
2. I feel like I have hole in MY personality. How did you pass by this episode?
For me, it was all about self acceptance instead of self criticism. Things do change with time.
3. Would it be OK if I used "sunny day" or "the bed" for the background music for my xanga website?
Yes, it is OK.
4. I hear a huge Killing Joke vibe in Dirge.
Yeah, Eric and I were heavily influenced by Killing Joke.
5. I'm thinking Dave's just gonna order plain black coffee... :D
That's right Cori!
6. Dave, do you keep your notes, and little scribbles, fan letters, etc.
I am very streamlined. I don't like having too much stuff. We do an annual Good Will clean up around here. Clothes, furniture and stuff like that. I don't like owning stuff I don't use or won't need.
7. Dave, how much make up do you wear at big occasions like the VMAs, etc.
Not much if any. Perhaps a little powder to "de-shine", a touch of liner or mascara. I go through phases. Sometimes I'm into it, other times it seems like a drag.
8. I feel free to share about my drug experiences here although I want to make a point to say that they are past drug experiences and I would not recommend drugs.
Amen. I share a lot about my experiences in my book, but only to illustrate the destructive nature they have had in my life.
9. A few days ago someone asked if Carmen still left coke cans everywhere - I do that too!
She certainly does!
10. Happy Birthday R.P. and Renato, my prayers are with you too.
Off to Vegas,
DN

Man, what a kick ass website! Iris has gotta be one of the coolest instrumentals I've EVER heard. And The Loophole- more of the same please! Been kicking around this site for a while and only just mustered up the balls to post. Interested to see a couple of previously posted questions which I haven't heard answered. How much of a say did you have in the writing of Hard Charger (killer tune BTW)? Were you planning on using the tracks on Ritual De Lo Habitual originally or like I saw posted yesterday was the fact that you guys were never in the studio at the same time the reason that you used songs like Three Days etc?

Another quick question while I remember. Any chance of posting the acoustic version of Just Because or any other unreleased material from the Strays sessions? Thanks and have a great time in Vegas.
PS- you've got to play a show in Dublin at some stage!

Hey guys,
thanks for giving me a mention Colleen. Yeah i got into university tomorrow to do film + theatre. Oooooooh, I'm so excited :)
me and my pal have got a website devoted to all the short films we are making and planning on making, although most of them are comedy ideas, mostly HIGHLY offensive (for example, The Hunt for Anne Frank). Anyway, check it out: www.johntroutproductions.co.uk
It's got a spoof news section as well. Feel free to post in the message board peoples :D
Oh, and sorry for the shameless plug.
Posted by: Wilson at August 20, 2004 10:47 AM
hey dave....since you are such the well dressed man and speaking of doing an annual sweep to get rid of clothes and things you don't need anymore.....have you or would you ever consider donating some stuff to charity auctions? i'm pretty sure some of those threads would bring in some serious cash ;)
Posted by: cristine at August 20, 2004 10:48 AM
I so agree, I am liking today's artwork a lot!
Anthony/WhitePony- Those eminem lyrics i feel fit in so many ways.
I don't know what it is that's giving you a hard time, but hang in there man, I know sometimes it might not feel like it but things will get better.
I had a rough time the last 2 or 3 years myself, but since spring of this year I've finally been feeling like an animal set free from their cage. I'm at a point where I am just grateful to be alive and don't give a fuck about what anyone might say or think about me. I have realized that most people live in their own reality and have false notions of what other people's reality is and that in the end we are all in the same boat. Also, that whatever obstacles life throws at you will only make you stronger and wiser in the end.
Awesome job on your site, it kicks major ass!
Feel free to catch me on MSN if you ever need someone to talk to.
peace & love to you fellow agent

Damn! I wanna try and try to be 1st. Oh Well.
ANYWAY. Goooood morning Panic Freaks.
Question for Dave: Where did the song "My cat's name is Maceo." come from. (For those who don't know, its on Kettle Wistle) Trippy song, but strange, in a good way. Did Perry really have a cat named Maceo?
Ok, now another question. Dave does not have to answer, but I woul dliek to get his take on this. But you guys out there let me know what you think. All of my FAv performers have all been heroin addicts. Scott Wheiland, Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Art from Everclear, Courtney Love, and my most Favorite DAve.
What do you guys think. Strange or not? Give you your thoughts. Thnx, HAve a nice weekend.

Oh yeah! I agree with Maria (Mortisha8) True dat!

Hey Dave. Thanks for adding my loops. I really just wanted to Thank You in the highest for choosing Autism as your charity. My other sister Mary (not Colleen who I know you have met) has a son with high functioning Autism. She has managed to control his behavior better through diet....no wheat or dairy....and she has recipes to make him his own special cookies .....which are very good....cause I sneak a few being the chocoholic that I am....so if you hear of a site for other parents or adults of the disease could you be a dear and post the link. She would love to share her experiences and recipes with the community. Thanks for the great site and I love everything (and everyone) you do. Ha ha....that's something Colleen would say....the little freak....you gotta love her. Love n Peace.

You and the guys were at CD:UK last year on 1st Novemeber. You were the only reason I went and knowing that got me through that crap music I had to stand and listen to. You came out and I reached out to you and you shook my hand.
Just want to say thanks for that!! You made the wait totally worthwhile and it really made by day... infact it was one of the greatest days ever! I didn't let anyone touch my hand for weeks after that!

What are your thoughts on Filter? I personally love them, especially Title of Record. I ask 'cos Eric Avery is helping out on their new album (or so Richard Patrick says on his website). Also, I echo Max's sentiments- a Dublin gig would be great- make it happen!

Dear Dave,
Just a quick note to say kudos on not only actually giving a crap about your audience but also taking the time to write to them on a regular basis like this. So many kick-ass rockers turn into uptight arrogant types with the god complex, to see someone as rockin' as yourself still keeping in touch with your fanbase in such a personal way is really refreshing to me.
Nice one man, and keep it up. If I get famous we'll have to jam.
Posted by: Paddy at August 20, 2004 04:22 PM
Do you ever get tired of people asking what you meant when you said something? I noticed that people will ask what you meant in an interview that you did like 8 years ago. Holy!!! I don't remember what I meant yesterday!!
Posted by: Missy at August 20, 2004 04:29 PM

Geek observation and question. You sure do seem to love your Sidekick. The Treo 600 is still a little more than I would care to pay, so the Sidekick has been a long temptation. I have read Sidekick message boards mentioning a variety of mechanical problems, have you had any yet? How long have you used yours? Are you able to load most Web sites, or do you run into problems?

I'm 42... so I'm happy to have the opportunity to be a "newbie" at practically anything!
Dave... as a Floyd fan, have you listened to Easy Star All-Stars' Reggae version of "Dark Side of the Moon", and if so, how did you like it? (I like it a lot, BTW).
What are the rules for the 'loops' page? How do I upload/download?
Me & my family are big fans of Celeb Poker SD on Bravo... what's the taping procedure? Is the whole season taped over one day?

moving out of MO as i type...thank god! it's been strange saying my goodbyes to my pals of the past 3 yrs, but i know i'm absolutely doing the right thing. i really can't imagine staying here another week, let alone another year or two haha...no offense if anyone is from MO, it's just not the right place for me. Countdown to NY begins! I'll hear from my school on Tues if I get in- serious prayer action, guys!
Thanks for the well wishes already. It's great to have a little online "Cheers" to turn to! hehe
ok I need to bounce majorly...but CONGRATS WILSON, i am definitely in a similar place making a new move for school so best of luck to you, too.

also- i know there's a bunch of floyd freaks on here...check out scissor sisters cover of 'comfortably numb'. at first listen, you'll hate it, but i really dig their entire cd & even 'comfortably numb' has grown on me. scissor sisters sound like elton john meets bowie...glam rock and piano-driven rock combined...it is one of the more refreshing cd's i've heard in awhile. some pretty love ballads, too, so the cd has lots of mixed influences & sounds...
but the 'comfortably numb' chorus kind of steals the 'ah ah ah ah' from 'ah ah ah ah, staying alive' and then the 'become comfortably numb' so it sounds like: 'ah ah ah 've be-come com-fortably numb'. it is dancey but fun. enjoy!
Posted by: Ellen at August 21, 2004 11:28 AM

Bonny where are you? Hope your ok.
Hi Ellen, I do like some of the other stuff that the Scissor Sisters have done but Comfortably Numb, no sorry it didn't grow on me at all, the disco beat with this song really didn't mix for me.
Mind you I am one of the Floyd freaks that you speak of so I guess I am totally biased towards the original version :)
Many smiles to you all,

I can play guitar but I'm restricted at the moment because I've had an operation on my right index finger - I can't grip my plectrum. How would you cope if you had to have surgery? Are your hands insured, Dave?

Hi Dave,
I have been a long time reader but never a poster. I love your site and the family that has formed here - it is a wonderful community.
I know that your Mother was ripped away from you when you were young. My Mom was not murdered in the true sense but the disease of Alcoholism killed her and ripped her from me. She was 53. I am 35 and grateful to have had her in my life as long as I did but now I no longer feel whole. I feel like a puzzle who is missing so many pieces. On the outside people look at me and say well it's been 6 months and she fine. My husband - my soul mate knows that I am not me yet but I don't thnk he can really put his finger on what isn't like it use to be, but either can I. He says I need time and I am so grateful for him supporting me and giving it to me. What do I do with the time? I am not sure what is broken or how to fix it...I miss her so much, she was my best friend, but now I find myself questioning if I even knew her. Wishing I had the answers to so many questions that I will never be able to ask. I guess my question is do you ever feel whole again?
Thanks, Sherry

Hello Dave
we're missing your daily posts, man! I hear you're doing a poker tournament later this week as well. I won't be posting much from now on, but I'll be around just reading. I don't know if you'll be back in LA at all or just staying out in Vegas the whole time, so I wanted to say good luck! I just know you'll kick some major butt out there ;)
I also hear Anthony Kiedis will be at the tournament. If you see him please let him know that his fans love him and wish him good luck as well.
be well

Hello Sherry and Welcome!
I just wanted to tell you that I know how you are feeling...I lost my Mom not quite a year ago and after a few months, people kept telling me I needed to "get over it".
I've lost many friends and other family members but losing my Mom was different...very different, and I don't think I'll ever "get over it".
But, Dave gave me some good advice...it does get easier...just focus on one task at a time...one thing at a time...not a whole week or even a whole day. It really will get easier and having cool people here to talk to helps as well.
Anyway...welcome to the Board...Dave is in Vegas for awhile so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents...hope it helped.

hey guys, sorry i haven'y been around much, i decided to take off from my house for a while, anbd just kind of deal with alot of the stuff that has been going on. I've been camping out in my car, almost got robbed, good times...
anyway, right now i am in a cheap hotel, because i needed a shower, badly. and they happened to have a computer in their tiny lobby. so just wanted to check in with you all, and my support goes out to everybody having problems, i'm having some of my own as well, lol. so right now i'm just pretty much burying all the demons for good. no one knows where i am, lol everyone is probably freaking out right now, so i should go and call a few people so they dont start a police search or some shit.
I bought the smile empty soul cd on my way out of town, and it is fucking AMAZING. i am loving it more and more, i think they are the new nirvana. i highly recommend it to everyone, its an awesome album.
anyway, i have to pay for the internet by the minute, so i'm going to go now. again, my support goes out to everyone and anyone who is having problems, just know that you are definatly not alone, there's always someone who has been throug h something similar.
ok im off to bed now, have a good one,
paperdove
