Time For Dateline

dave_spread_iconThanks to White Pony for the new domain and the FAQ page. Nice going.

1. Just wondering if you have any favorite Hillel Slovak songs from the chili peppers, I remember you used to play Backwoods live.

I love the Uplift album.

2. How'd you get hooked up with Billy Morrison?

Known him for several years now from "around". We first started Camp Freddy a few years ago at the request of Donovan to open a hotel. We have been jamming together ever since.

3. How do u feel about parodying Paris Hilton now that she has been beaten up?

I feel like an insensitive jerk. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I sincerely apologize. I still think she is adorable...

4. Are you planning on going to the MTV VMA's this year, & if so, will you be doing anything on stage?

Yes, I am and no I am not.

5. I know you have been around the music scene longer than we have so is this sort of drama typical?

I wouldn't call it typical. Sounds like an unstable situation. I would seek the legal route.

6. How do you feel about Carmen getting the most pause worthy female award?

I think she deserved it of course.

7. Curious, when did you tape your "acceptance speech" for the MTV Reality Awards?

Like 2 or 3 weeks before it aired.

8. ¿Have you ever seen RADIO DAYS, and if so, what do you think of it?

Love Radio Days.

9. I was watching the rock superstar video of Camp Freddy and it looked like you were totally into it. Would have ever done that if you hadn't met Carmen.

Well, I for sure would have, but I met Be Real through Carmen and we became friends. So in a way, I have her to thank for that.

10. Have you ever come up with a guitar part when your jamming away that you thought was really cool, only to realize it's already been done by someone else.

Of course. That happens to the best of artists. Don't worry about it, just keep plugging away...

Goodnight,

DN

hey everyone

i just wanted to say that this site is amazing and that an artist should give so much of himself and his time to his fans is truly amazing. thanks dave!

about the paris hilton parody - you can't consider it insensitive! i think the question is more insensitive. there is no relation between what happened to her and that photo. anyway, just my opinion.

thanks again for the site. you are an inspiring artist in an age of so much mediocrity.

Posted by: ooftymcgoofty at August 6, 2004 08:21 PM

oh! and a question - who is doing the singing on deconstruction? i've always assumed it was eric avery except on big sur..
thanks again!

Late night huh Dave?

Have a good one everyone!

Love, Cynthia

Posted by: Cynthia at August 6, 2004 08:27 PM

Oh yea, I already posted this but, Everyone knows Dave is obviously a fan of Paris Hilton, if anyone thinks he is an insensitive jerk, well they just don't know him like we do in the community man! (or at least we like to think we do)

buh bye!

hey guys. man this web is cool. it's cool to hear what dave really thinks about certain things that people ask. seeing as he is my guitar hero it gives me a bit insight into what might have gone through his head when he wrote a particular song. oh and hi dave and carmen.

You have a BEAUTIFUL voice. Do you plan on doing any vocals anytime soon?

HERE'S SOME LYRICS if anybody wants to try them on...
title:Palace of Time Bombs
Hiding in the candle-lit shadows: a removal from here and now, into revolving time,
collage-ing molecule by molecule. Gravity dropping. Knowing without knowing.
Distracted. Dismantled. Fallen away from everywhere. Everywhere, lying in mud.
These two forces in life refocus their infinite cyclic spirals psychic vibrations
Dirt time travelling warm rage infinity, new eyes always. emerging.
My mind has stopped dead. No more worries of the lies ahead. No more dark clouds
just sunshine... No more yearning From all their lies to live.
Im burning silent in this fire, swimming in the starry light. Where there’s nothing to hurt me.
Dying forever here and now. on this bed singing this death song.
(written/cut-up:1995/1996/2004)
taken from a very very very long poem: Nine Months
:)RSM

Its not your fault Dave, you can't know all the celebrities personal business and you should be able to have fun and not get guilted like that for something meant as a joke.

I mean, it isn't like she got beaten up because you parodied her. And I think taking the pics down show how much you do care! Don't feel bad for anything you did, the only one who wronged in this mess was whoever hit her.

Posted by: Bonnie at August 6, 2004 08:48 PM

You are so NOT a jerk...if anything you're the total opposite. I thought it was a cute homage to her (not to mention you looked cute yourself) and maybe even showed a little respect for her. I feel she's unnecessarily judged and criticized too much (i feel like everyone in hollywood is...i mean how do we know what's really going on so what right do we have to pass judgment?)

just want to agree with everyone here and say you're not insensitive. and to also say this site does rock! you devote yourself to your fans...and that just shows how cool you are! thanks man!

hey just watched the awards show for g-phoria.

Great show. you guys were awesome! Hilarious. Oh, and it was great to find out when and where you & Carm have had sex at award shows. Thanks.

I aboslutely love your wedding tattoo...
Carmens = equally hot. (saw it on craig kilborn.)

***I know this isn't gonna happen - but since you're gonna be in Miami for the VMA's - and I live in Miami...would it be possible for me to meet you & Carmen - since I dont have the $500 for a VMA ticket? Oh yeah, and I love you guys?***
Didn't think so.
But if it's at all possible, email me...bmd315@msn.com - please.

One last thing...how WAS that sex in the arcade!?
Just kidding...
...or was I?
*evil grin*

Hi Dave,

This is a bit of an inane question, but how do musicians in your position get paid? I realize you receive royalties from your prior work, but how do you receive them? Like every month? From who? For publishing rights etc.?

Please explain if you would.

Thank you,
Jay

Posted by: Jay at August 6, 2004 09:36 PM

just thought I should clear something after re-reading my last post...

that bit about it being "great" finding out about the sex at awards shows...total sarcasm.

I'm not THAT sick.
Seriously.

Well (Rob K) he said this (on July 1995) "A few years ago I stopped eating meat and started working out. People ask me, "How can a vegetarian who works out smoke?" It's not about health, it's about vanity: I don't want to get fat. Who cares how pink my lungs are--how do I look." (I don't know about Dave, but I love the book because I can relate to it.)

So... Does that still apply?

Can you give us an update on any CF all-star lineups (ex. Morrissey) in the works?

Thanks Dave. -al

Dave,

It is an honor to do all this for you and for the site.

I am sitting here listening to the spread album that was so kindly sent to me by Navarrian (THANK YOU!) and this stuff blows my mind. I love these versions of the songs. TNO has been my favorite album (even more than deftones white pony) since the day i first heard it.

Any other ideas for content on my site? Or any other media requests.

Posted by: whitepony at August 6, 2004 10:05 PM

Dave,

Is there anywhere that has a complete listing of everything you've done. If not i think I just very well have my next idea for content on my site... that is if there is intrest for it.

lemme know...

Everyone knows you have a good heart, Dave, and that you just didn't make that connection when you posted the parody. Anyone would make that mistake. I certainly didn't make the connection until that guy pointed it out. I know you are expected to be perfect, since you are on MTV and stuff, but I hope this type of thing doesn't make you feel uncomfortable about posting your thoughts so freely. I think these little reminders that you aren't perfect are part of what makes this such a cool site.

Dear Mr. Dave Navarro,
I am an aspiring screenwriter. I wrote a script that I think you would be perfect for. I live in Mexico, but will be in the L.A. area on August 23rd to register my script. I was wondering where I could drop off/send you a copy of my script. I would love for you to go throught it and tell me what you think. Thank you very much. Hope to hear from you soon.

hey everyone.

Dave, its been reported that Janes Addiction is the godfather of alternative music, and its also been said that Janes is one of the best bands ever. i then realised that when janes started and reached that level you were pretty young. how does it feel to have done something so amazing and so mind blowing to the world and realising that you were so young! i mean, most people wont achieve something like that in their whole lives but you did something so great and you where in your early twenties? how does that feel?

Yo Luiz, how you doing dude? hope your well.
Whitepony, thanks for all your hard work, its really appreciated! i will email you those lyrics soon. i think if we all get our asses in gear we could have some really great lyrics for the online song. i cant wait.

dont do anything i wouldnt do. and if you do then name it after me

'cause the other post is closed...

"DAVE NAVARRO MADE ME DO IT!"

Ahem. *coughs* Yeah.

meh... having a bit of a general life epiphany thing... and I just think it's so cool that you... bother, y'know? and that a lot of people have sort of set up their own little community from the shores of your journal, I think that's really nice that people are so up for communication and making music and stuff.

So yes. A big public 'thank you' because... you always deserve more praise than you get. (:

Soph x.

Posted by: Sophia at August 7, 2004 01:27 AM

No, Dave... not insensitive at all. Please don't feel like a jerk... the pic was cool... sort of served as a bit of an homage to her, at least, that's how I see it.

I was thinking earlier that I'd really love to see/hear Dave and Stevie Nicks working together on a project... or maybe having her as a guest with Camp Freddy sometime. Even after all this time, the lady can still rock out when she wants to. (This idea probably has something to do with me wanting to work with her myself... LOL)

But it begs the question... Dave, do you have any "dream" collaborations that you'd really love to do, and with whom?

Random thing here... I filled in on lead vocals for a friend's band Thursday night, because their regular guy has a throat infection. Anyway, I tried out this spray stuff called Clear Voice, because the last time I filled in for these guys, I ended up pushing my voice too hard. I was really impressed with it, and it got me wondering if any of the other singers on here (or you, Dave) have used this stuff, and if you have, what did you think of it? Just curious... :)

Peace,
Tim

i was just on holidays for 2 weeks and didnt think that when i came back you would have updated so much, but i read it all.

do you surf?

what does a record company do when a band has signed on for 4 albums or something and they break up before releasing all of those? does the contract advance really have to pay for the recording costs? do the artists pay for the videos?

could you stick lots of extras onto that till death do us part dvd? please. i havent seen it because it is shown irregularly on mtv asia but i want to see it but i dont think it is worth spending money on tv series box sets unless they are well packed with special features.

hello lovahs xoxo-

how goes it for everyone? i hope everyone had good wks with whatever has been keeping them busy. i am so glad it's the wknd--- had a little bit too much to drink thurs night at a HOB show in hollywood...but then i met the singer michael buble (also of i love the 90s) at one of my internships this a.m. and he told me how much he loved my name...which TOTALLY made my day go by easier hehe(my last name is houlihan...as in 'hot lips houlihan' from m*a*s*h not to toot my own horn haha...but i think he complimented it bc hula-han sounds kind of cool haha) "oh frankie...er michael!" ba da ba ba ba i'm lovin it :) hehe anyway...

again, i want to stress how grateful i am to have this community. it means a lot to know there are people that care about you out there even if you haven't met face to face. i know it sounds corny but i'm sure you can all relate- whenever i see a new post has gone up i get soooo freakin excited. don't ever leave us, oh great one! (that would be you, dave haha)...i am diggin the panic children name, for us daveheads hehe

i caught an old beavis & butthead episode on mtv2 the other night & during one of the video-watching segments beavis thinks the guitarist in the video is you. he's like, 'hey that's dave nav-a-row' & butthead's like 'shut up dumb ass' haha but then beavis goes on to explain his theory that RHCP's long list of guitarists is b/c flea gets all the chicks & that deflates the guitarists' egos...thus their departures..flea would get a great laugh out of that episode.

having read a lot of similar posts, dave, you must know this from our correspondence already...but you are a great person. i am continually inspired by your advice, wisdom & humor supplied to everyone's comments, concerns or mentions apart from and including myself. i really admire your honesty. it is so cool to be able to connect with someone who has overcome so much and found how to live a happy life...it's so great to have our own little online "cheers" support group...where everybody knows your name haha...sorry i'm getting cheesy w/ the tv references here...

in humorous news, i saw a couple posts about carmen being on kilby (as kilborn refers to himself)...and entertainment weekly's head tv critic, ken tucker, makes a hilarious observation this week...(i just love their witty writing!) ahem, here goes: "you readers really like to force out my most embarassing habits, don't you? okay, i admit it: i will tivo craig kilborn's late late show any time i see that he's booked a model or an actress whom i know kilborn thinks is hot. why? because i find his infinite variations on winking come-ons and arrested-adolescent awe weirdly fascinating. whether it's carmen electra or marg helgenberger, the guy does it over and over- he operates on tv viagra." so so true.

anywho...time to pass out...

good night to all & to all a rockin wknd

heLLo!

thanks Jenna, appreciate it! Put u on the 6767Msn, see u on there!

Dave, I managed to dig some old songs from a cd kept in a box in the middle of nowhere! ;-)
Anyway, there are songs from the Pre-Spread era I think, as they are only acoustic with you singing, different from anythingelse I've heard so far..

Cry MyselF to SleEp
MourninG Son
Very LiTtle DaYlight
WhoRe

Let me know if I can put'em online temporary or not...

CFR Show: Is there one tonite as usual?? Who shud be there tonite? (guest?) are u hosting it?

CyberSong: The loop from Saraswati is quite cool, as its long enough and already have some variations in it. I wud recommend that one to start with, and get some of the other loops converted to be used as fills or extras.
If someone could av a look to that Saraswati loop, and come up with some kind of structure...

Ive not been around the last few days, but its great to see that the community is still rocking as ever!

Will come back soon with some logos and some new materials for the CybeRsoNg

Av a nice day u PPL in the US!! ;-)

Enjoy!
