Off To The Shiny Town

bw_panic_8So I am about to roll out to Vegas and Miami for a few days. I'll try to check in via Sidekick or hotel Internet.

1. Why did you leave Cry Myself To Sleep off of TNO? It seems like it would mean a lot to you.

I honestly don't know. I guess because the album was getting long and the song was never really quite finished.

2. Are you guys going to Miami for the VMAs?

Carmen is working at them and I will be out there, but I haven't decided if I am going to attend or not. I might just go to the "after" stuff.

3. I know your favorite guitar is the white prs, but may I ask what exactly makes it that special guitar for you?

The best way to describe it is that it just feels like "butter".

4. Top 3:

Well, I really only use my iPod on shuffle so it is hard to say. The last three songs that were played are:

Girl You Want: Devo
911 is a Joke: Public Enemy
Beat it up Right: Korn

5. I have a question about Til Death Do Us Part. Do you know when we'll be able to pre-order the DVD from amazon, best buy, etc.?

Last I heard it was due out in January or something like that.

6. Dave, how are Your feelings about Chili Peppers not playing anything from One Hot Minute anymore? Isn't that shitty thing?

It's all good. I love all of those guys so whatever they want to do I support.

7. Have you ever been on a leash and drank milk out of a bowl? If so, is there photo evidence?

Ha! That definitely rings a bell. No, there are no pictures.

8. How do you know when you've nailed a good solo? Is it from the reaction of others or do you know instinctively?

What usually happens is that I will try several times and end up going with the first one.

9. Do you avoid working out just after your tattoos are done? For how long?

No, I just hit it as if...

10. Whats the first thought that comes to your mind when you get pocket A's in a game of poker?

It used to be... "Damn, I've got this one!" But I have been busted so many times with pocket Aces that now, I almost worry when they show up!

Peace Out!

Dave

Girl You Want: Devo
911 is a Joke: Public Enemy

LOVE them both. :)

Being a confessed Deadhead, when you go see a band play live, do you prefer for that band to stick rigidly to how the songs sound on the album or, like the Dead, to mix things up a little? Personally I prefer to hear bands mix things up a bit. That way you know that the band are actually enjoying themselves rather than just going through the motions and I feel that the audience feed of this and get even more pumped up. Anyone else want to give their opinion also?

I am so glad Dave that you answered that Red Hots question, because so many people ask that to themselves, or others, and well, I knew you'd support them! So if I ever hear or see something about it again, I can quote you. ;)

I've been to quite a few Dead shows, thanks to my time spent in San Fran. I love that they mixed things up, played different sets. But also, when you really know a song, and love the way it is on a recording, then you want to hear it live like that. so my choice is as on the record, then go a bit funky with it, you know make it longer! :D
ha ha, you get both then.

This's my first time posting a comment here, but I've been reading for awhile. This site never fails to make me smile! Thanks!
So, I was going to ask some great, witty question but I can't think of one so, Dave, even though you've read this a million times, here's a million and one: it's awesome of you to take the time to interact like this. It's awesome :)

WORRY ABOUT POCKET ACES???

It can't get any better than that... you can get busted but come on... Its the dream hand!

ok so in other news....

Well today is Brittney and I's one year aniversary. Even in the midst of the problems we have been having this alone is an accomplishment for us. One year together something I had previously thought was just a myth.

I may be hosting a Doheny video for them because they do not have enough space to host it. I am super excited to see the vid. I will keep you all updated.

Hey dave... if i ever do get married to this girl (i donno if you have seen my posts about the drama between her and I) do you want an invitation?

Much love as always,

Pony

Did you have any say in the music videos for Rexall and Hungry or did somebody just pitch an idea to you? Thanks

Posted by: Rich Shook at August 26, 2004 11:47 AM

Hiya Folks

On the recorded/live thing i personaly love it when bands play they're tunes slightly differently live,i like when a guitar solo is totally different and songs get jammed on instead of autopiloted.
RHCP do this alot and i love them for that,i prefer live music more anyway,i love the spontaneity and that "moment in time" thing.
thats that.
On the OHM tunes not being played anymore live, although i'm sad at this its not the only album of theirs that gets ignored,Mothers Milk, their self-titled debut album too,and lately really all the first 4 albums,no biggy the've got loads to chose from.

I'd love a fully live Janes album.

DN,

Advice needed: A week or so before a gig...

Take average songs and make them good? Or, take the good songs and make them great?

Posted by: Schwing at August 26, 2004 11:57 AM

Yo bro, how about some new downloads...

Posted by: axis at August 26, 2004 12:12 PM

Posted by: Jesse at August 26, 2004 12:15 PM

thanks twisted angel for asking about irving plaza...i'm very very curious myself (it's near my birthday, and it would amazing to see dave live for my birthday!)

and crecencia...thanks for making the effort to send the pic...i really appreciate it.

and to join in on the 5 cd's i'm currently playing...here they are!

1. Fiona Apple- Tidal
2. Cibo Matto- Viva La Woman
3. Jane's Addiction- Ritual de lo Habitual
4. a mix cd with hole, incubus, breeders, and tori amos
5. Audioslave- Audioslave

i'm one of the few people not hip to ipods (i'm more into cd's) so i still value my mix cd's lol...adios dudes!

Dave, it seems that you keep your chest and stomach bare of tattoos for the most part, and mainly just stick to arms/hands. Is there any particular reason?

And to answer Juan's question about starting something new. I think the best advice on that can be found in the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven.

"Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on."

Its never too late, bro.

Oh yeah, if anyone has a couple thousand to throw around, you might consider bidding on the guitar Dave signed to be auctioned for Storm Aid. Its a telecaster, also signed by Tom Petty and John Ondrasik from Five for Fighting. The price is at $2000 right now.

Here is the link:

Off work for six weeks with hepatitis A. Just means I have more time to work on my demo!

I know you're probably sick of answering RHCP questions by now but I'll ask this one nonetheless. Do you rule out the possibility of one day playing again with RHCP? Is it a part of your life that you consider as being over?

Posted by: Nomi Malone at August 26, 2004 01:13 PM

Hi Dave....I really love and prefer the live version of "Three Days" on Kettle Whistle. It sounds to me like there are two guitar parts on that, at least in the beginning. Is this true?

Posted by: Aron at August 26, 2004 01:14 PM

hey, anyone know where i can send agency artwork? is there an email link, or do i have to host it somewhere?

Posted by: doctorG at August 26, 2004 01:14 PM

Who's the best producer that you've come across in your experience? Do you prefer a more "hands-on" type of producer who gives his advice on different song arrangements or somebody who just sits there and presses the record button?

Favorite albums
1)United by Fate - Rival Schools
2)Title of Record - Filter
3)Visual Audio Sensory Theater - VAST
4)Bow Down to the Exit Sign - David Holmes
5)Soul Food Taqueria - Tommy Guerrero

Hiya all!

Some of you were talking about bands who funk up their shit live, and I must say I like it as long as they do it well. Sometimes it annoys me when a band plays one of my favourite songs and they end up butchering it so that I can't even sing along. It happens.
Secondly I have yet to hear a band that sounds better on record than live. Live everything just sounds harder and I like that. I can imagine the opposite being a fact, but I don't listen to crap music so I wouldn't know.

Have a good one everyone, and have fun in Vegas and Miami, Dave (I'm envious. I wanna go to Vegas too...but it's like 3000 miles away and I went last year, so. Bah!)

~Chantelle~

Posted by: Chantelle at August 26, 2004 01:35 PM

Hey Dave and everyone else too,

I have a long winded question that I'm dying to ask. During the recording of Strays you said that you wanted to write primarily 4 minute long songs so as not to allow yourselves to meander in obscure directions. Are you going to stick within similar parameters with the Panic Channel or are you going to allow the songs to breathe more and explore different avenues?

Thank you. The new tats rock BTW.

Posted by: Max at August 26, 2004 01:39 PM

Hey doctorG
i have asked the same question. i dont really have the time at the moment to sort through the hundreds upon hundreds of posts to find it, i know someone on here knows. maybe with the two of us asking we will soon find out.
to ask dave a question. when your dont try this at home comes out, and when 'til death do us part comes out, will there be any chance to get autographed copies, like through a contest, or reward, ect...?

Hi Family! :)

Have fun and hurry back, Dave...

A couple things I wanted to comment on:

Juan... It's never too late. I'm 42 (which is not old, I know) and I'm about to walk away from 20 years as a professional hairstylist/color specialist in a few weeks, to take a chance on getting into the music industry in some capacity. Scary? Sure... but I look at it this way... If I don't go for it and give it my absolute best effort (whether I make the dream a reality or not), then I'll never know. I don't wanna be sitting around at the age of 90 wondering what I could have accomplished or saying "if only..." blah blah blah...

About tattoos: I'm going to be having some cover ups done before long, probably after my move to Chicago, and I just wanted to mention something to those that have never gotten ink: DON'T let yourself get talked into letting a friend/relative/significant other give you home-made tats! Did that myself many years ago (I was drunk, naive, and basically blinded by raging hormones at the time) and I've been wanting them covered up ever since. I've finally figured out what I want them turned into, so now I just have to find a good artist and get it done. Lesson learned... the hard way. ;)

Whoever did the art today... it ROCKS!

Pony... congrats on the one year anniversary, bro!

My top 5 CDs changed after I posted last night... so this is what I'm listening to now, in no particular order:

Dave - TNO
Godsmack - Godsmack
Annie Lennox - Bare
BSB - Chapter 1 [Cori... Me too! ;) LOL]
Janes' Addiction - Strays
Andrea Bocelli - Sogno

Much love and respect to the Family and Dave...

Peace,
Tim/Panic Agent Nitewing

Dave,

Seen you live at Jones Beach last summer and in Detroit in 02 and have been listening to your work for about 15 years now, believe it or not, and have loved how you've grown as a musician. So, thank you for this great site to peruse. Your music has inspired me. Plus you are married to a fellow Cincinnatian and that ain't bad. ha ha!

Being a novice guitarist, could you tell me what are the chords to "My Time" it's one of my favs?

Thanks and all the best,

Hey Dave.

I have a quick question that I was wondering if you have any inside information about. I actually tried to ask you this question on the Capitol Records board before. I read in Rolling Stone awhile ago that you worked with Christina Aguilera on her Stripped album. I was wondering if the influence for her video for Dirrty was the movie Mad Max:Beyond Thunderdome? Sorry i know this question really wasn't about you but I always wondered that.

Posted by: Pinhead at August 26, 2004 03:22 PM

hey dave, if you read this.. i just want to say that you're awesome... i'm not well read in your music, but i respect you dearly, for your talent (all i have heard is beautiful), your fashion, your wife, and your willingness to meet Adrienns Wilson before she passed away.

she may have been one of your biggest fans (i mean that in a good way).

Hey Dave have fun in vegas and miami.

And to Juan, I've had a few of older guitar students, and the conversations goes like this..

them: Do you think I'm to old?
me: No
them: But do you know how old I'll be by the time I get good?
me: The same age you'll be if you don't, and you'll still regret it.

to Whitepony congrats man, I never made more than 4 months with someone, when I made it a year I married her. 5 years later it's still great.

and just to through it out there

All of these thoughtful people asking great questions and all I can do is gush. I promise to do better next time.

Be well,

I would ask a question but I am sure I would end up asking something you have already been asked 50 times so I will wait until I read more. That is if I can stop listening to the music. :oD

I hope you decide to go Dave, it would be cool to see you there. Have a great time either way though.:-)

Emily - Tori Amos rocks! I love her stuff, and I've seen her live 3 times. Amazing girl.

My trainer's little boy told me today that my sister and I are his "best buddies" and he's going to miss us "so much" when we're at school. I almost started crying. Poor little guy, I'm going to miss him too. He's an incredible kid. When my mom said we'd be back for Thanksgiving, he said "Easter too?!" She assured him for Easter too.

Everyone have a good weekend, I'll be moving (always a stressful time for my loveable but high stress relatives ;-))

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for posting my art today! I'm speechless!

I also wanted to add that I did the colorized 'nipple ring pulling' manipulated photo collage art on the second Agency Artwork page.

I have to get my lazy ass over to my art supply cabinet & do an actual sketch of you....someday! Deena's art inspired me.

Thanks again Dave~!

Hi Panic Agent Nitewing,

I did the art today. Thanks so much for the thumbs up. I sent in so many different designs, at first I didn't recognize that was my contribution posted!

I am in the process of attempting a change in careers myself, after many years in the graphic end of the fashion, marketing & music fields, I feel it's time to make some sort of change.

At least you know where your future interest lies, I have no clue what my next step is~!

Good Luck to you!

Ok so I just got out of my E-commerce class. And no I don't want to sell you anything...

Maybe I am getting way to ambitious here and someone stop me if I am, but I think my site should become a hub for this online community... not just for 6767 though. We all visit other sites and there are other people who visit other sites who don't know about this yet. RHCP fans... Doheny fans... Campy Freddy fans... the list goes on and on. Ok anyone with any idea on how to best integrate us all talk about this site and all the others please let me know... also if I am getting way to ambitious here please let me know. I think this would be the best way to give the most visibility to 6767.com thepanicchannel.com dohenymusic.com steveisaacs.com the list goes on and on.

So there is my rant for the night... gimmie some feedback.

Much love,

To elaborate on Twisted Angel & Emily's question about the October 21st Irving Plaza show, is there a possibility of a 6767 presale or something like that, so the members of "the family" can get first dibs on tickets? :)

Also, itanja, it made me feel so good to hear that my art inspired you! Thanks! And speaking of art, I absolutely love the last two posted... wow!

Pony, regarding your idea. I think it's great. As a suggestion, the mailing lists hosted at yahoogroups are excellent. I've been moderating a Spread/Dave list there since 1998, and it is really easy. Anytime someone posts, the subscribers have a choice to receive an email immediately, a digest at the end of the day, or to just read via the web. Email me if you're into it and need any info about it. It's a great way for everyone to communicate. On the Spread list, we always used to say that we all came together with a common interest, but it evolved into so much more than that as this board has. At the last uni gathering a few years ago, people came together in NYC from 4 states.

It's just an idea, but whatever you want to do, I'll back ya!

Spreading the love,
Deena

We're almost done building a getaway camp up in northern MI and it's an old tradition to name it, just like a boat, so how does "Camp Freddy" sound?!

Maybe I can corral you guys at a CF show someday & have you sign a CF shirt, poster, or even a piece of wood to make it offical. The door will be open if you ever pass through MI.

Have you ever been to Canada? If yes I hope your time here was great and if no then come visit us.Western Canada is not as cold as people think. We have lots of room in our house and yes we have running water and no it's not an igloo. We have many great bands over here I think you'd be really interested in hearing!

Posted by: poy at August 26, 2004 10:10 PM

Hey Dave,

Maybe it's a little personal, or deep, but what did you prefer to listen to while you were high?

there has to be something that put you in complete ecstacy (outside of the drugs themselves)

Posted by: Six7Six7 at August 26, 2004 10:35 PM

Hey Dave,

On ths subject of kids.

If and/or when you and Carmen have a child, do you have any ideas as to what you would like to name Him/Her?

Posted by: Six7Six7 at August 26, 2004 10:37 PM

What's up Dave! Hey I was wondering if there was any one song, or a few that you wrote, where you really surprised yourself. I mean, i understand you've got to be pretty proud of all your work, but i mean something where you really got some chills listening to the playback and think ya know, "wow i can't believe i wrote this." I thought of this question while listening to the song '3 days' cuz that just really seems like something more than four people playin in a band ya know?

For those couple of people looking for where to send artwork, bounce them to panic6767agents@free.fr

Pony, you didn't tell me when we talked on MSN earlier that it was your anniversary. Congrats! Hope everything is smooth sailing for you two. I was reading on your site about your new ideas, and I'm in the same boat. I want to do a music site, and have forums, maybe artist specific even, without detracting from the actual artists' sites. So if you get the urge to work together, let me know. You know how to get hold of me.

I know I seem to use this space to put in my two cents to other people posting, but I actually have a couple questions for Dave for once:)

I was actually a DN fan long before i knew who you even were, so now I'd like to dig into your brain from time to time:)

If someone held you at gunpoint and demanded to know what you thought was the greatest song of all time, what would your answer be?

Hey Dave

Pity you have no pictures with the saucer of milk and leash! LOL!

Just wondered who the last band was that you went out of your way to see live and did they live up to your expectations?

My five CDs at the mo are:-

Godsmack - Faceless
Breed 77 - Cultura
Soil - Redefine
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dreams
Alice In Chains - Unplugged

Hello all,
I've been a lurker here for the last couple of days and feel it's now my time to come out of the shadows. Loads of great questions have been asked and (even better still) answered. Sorry if this question has already been asked, I haven't checked many earlier posts yet. I've heard a version of San Fransisco/Iris which you played during a soundcheck in LA from 04/29/89 which isn't all that long before the original sessions for Ritual. Was this song originally mean't as a Jane's Addiction song or was it purposely held over for Deconstruction by you and Eric?

Posted by: Justtoby at August 27, 2004 07:39 AM

Good Luck Kyle!

Hi all!

I just looked through the agency artwork, and...Wow!
One thing that struck me (I'm sort of obsessed with sharks, so bare with me :) is the pic named PanicShark2. Is that pic real? Cause if it is, then I surely would've panicked. Big time. Where did you (whom ever made it :) find that pic? It looks like the guy is paddling towards the shark and not away from it like any sane being would.
I cannot decide whether it's brave or just dumb. Probably the latter.

Have a good one, everyone!

Zombee... we'll definatly be in touch later today.

Basicly what I want is to move all the personal and chat type stuff off this site and into a community site and not clutter this site with our lives. This is mainly a place to ask dave questions and get updates on his life. Anyone who feels the same way let me know.

This is a huge and beautiful community and I thienk we just need to build it a home. I love all of you and am very interested in what is going on in your lives. I just want to give it a bigger and more organized home.

Much love as always,
Pony

Dead gor, Dave, run, run and hide! My mother likes you now. *cackles*

Okay, so she's 32, but that doesn't make it any better (;

D'you ever come across, at shows, where the parental figures seem just as happy and excited as their kids to be there? (:

Good Morning Everyone! Happy Friday :D

Anthony...I'm with you...I love to talk to everyone but I'm always thinking in the back of my mind that I'm making way too much clutter for Dave to wade through ;) (BTW....Happy Belated Anniversary!)

Kyle...best of luck! I know you guys are gonna kick ass!

Everyone have an awesome weekend!

I'm a bit bummed out at the moment as Leeds festival has started and i couldn't get a ticket and I live real close to the site so everywhere I go there are happy (if a little soggy) campers to remind me of what i'm missing out on :O(

Trent Reznor- vocals, Guitar
Dave Navarro- Guitar
Nikki Sixx- Bass
Tommy Lee- Drums

While, Dave's away though, this is going to get very clogged up so we should take it elsewhere.

Chantelle... I did the shark pic... and yes, it's real. Found it in a bunch of public domain pics and I believe the caption said something about the shark showing up in the wave and surprising the surfer dude. If that was me on that board, I know I'd be in Panic mode! LOL

Dave... hope the cards are falling in your favor, bro. Have fun! I was hoping to be sitting at the table with you and the other guys, even though I suck at the game. LOL Can't wait to hear how it went...

Keeping this short so I don't add much to the clutter...

Much love and respect to the Family and Dave... Have a great Friday, everyone! :D

Got an interesting C.D of you and Stephen soundchecking
at the final Hawaii show in 91. Midway through the sound guy asks you to play some bass and you start to play Idiots rule. Is this you playing bass in Eric's absence? Can you remmember that far back ?

I don't feel like we'd be leaving dave out. We'd be organizing the community better and he could read up on us over there if he wants to.

But i am not one to speak for dave. If he would rather we do all our chatting here then we'll leave it. I just thought this would make it easier for him to sort through and get more questions answered.

Dave... do you mind if we try to move the chatter to a family forum where you can read when you have time?

Pony

Posted by: WhitePony at August 27, 2004 02:52 PM

Dave,
As a guitarist and a musician do listening to albums such as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or Radiohead's Ok Computer make you motivated or jealous?

Posted by: Casey at August 27, 2004 02:55 PM

Pony~I've taken my chatter over to Freak's forum for now, but if it'll work better say on your site, or wherever, then great! I mean there are loads of posts on here, it's getting overwhelming, and I do agree we can chat better elsewhere. Of course, Dave can join us there. I was being a bit cheeky, really. when I said "poor Dave" :)
Just tell us where to go to chat. Say post it on here, so people know where to go.

HEYYY DAAAVEEEE..
I have a favor to ask....
I was wondering if you could give a big warm shout out to my friend Trish....
She lost her mom last week...
I was thinking that maybe you could put a bigger smile on her face than I am able to do..

She has been a great friend to my while I was grieving the loss of my mother earlier this year ..

And the really cool thing is, we developed an internet friendship because of your music...

Oh and ... Quit avoiding some of my questions ...

Peace to you my friend...

Pony, your idea has got my vote. We're a pretty vocal bunch of people here, and I'd hate to end up ruining a good thing. It's really cool to be able to ask questions as they arise and get a response, but if sorting through the posts becomes too time consuming, I'm afraid of loosing the current vibe. I agree with you Pony, that it would be a good idea to take our less related threads to a designated outside forum. After all, if Dave spends all his time reading 100 posts per day, we'll all be grandparents before the next cd comes out! :)

Posted by: Deena13 at August 27, 2004 06:42 PM

Deena...I agree that this is getting to be a lot of content for Dave to have to go through to find relevent comments/questions...And if we all agree to post this type of thing on another area then we will all have more of a chance to have or relevent thoughts relayed to dave..

Pony, if you are up to it and we can all agree to it, that would be a gret idea! ;)

I have a suggestion for those of you who don't want to clutter up this site with idle chatter about our own lives and keep it strictly for questions for Dave. A few other members of the 6767 "family" and I are and have been members of Daves' Capitol records message board for a few years now at www.Hollywoodandvine.com That board has been pretty dead for awhile now but it is a perfect place for us to interact with each other if you want to keep the posts on this site to a minimum.

Hey hey, T! Long time no hear!!! If the Irving Plaza thing happens, we're going to have to meet up! Actually, it's been so long since I've seen you... we've got to meet up anyway. I still have to take you out for your bday!

The possibility of the Irving Plaza show got me thinking. Years ago a bunch of us threw around an idea of wearing a subtle symbol at the shows as a way to identify others from the group. We sarcastically joked around about wearing unicorn horns and carrying around potato salad, but seriously, wouldn't it be cool if everyone from here wore a simple visual symbol, such as 6767 written on the back of one hand with a marker, so we can pick fellow members of "the family" out of the crowd?

good morning family

well, its now early morning after the gig lastnight. all i can say is it was great! it was the best gig that we have played at in a long time.heres a quick report...

the turn out for the gig was very decent and the sound was mind blowing. the sound engineer really knew what he was doing. we got a lot of complements after the gig by the event organiser and from the main band Fokofpolisiekar. 4 bands played all in all. so in short, we really did a good job, we walked off stage on a high and feeling that we did a great job.

thank you all for all your complements and love. i feel very touched and i appreciate all your support. i should have sum pics up soon(sorry, i had to use my really stone age digicam) and I'll show you all alittle bit of what happened.

thank you again for al your love and support.

Cynthia,

That is the second time it has happened to that the person i was writing to became the name... That was me that posted that. The msn thing definatly moves alot of the chat off the board. But i still think improvements can be made. This post right here that I am making would be better made in a forum. of the 129 post that are up right now... how many contain questions to dave?

I have decided to hold off on my project until I find out what is happening with the panic agency site. Once i find out what that is doing i will have more direction on what I need to do.

Anthony aka Pony

and again cynthia... no idea how it ended up with you in the name.

Well, I realize I'm the new guy [Panic Agent YAY!] on the block around here, but I've talked to Pony extensively about the forum idea, and I agree. There's 130 posts here, and few of them are actually questions for Dave, and I can only imagine how busy his days are... sifting through here trying to answer questions must be crazy.
I would say that if we have Dave's blessing then we move to something a little more moderated that we can use to communicate with each other. MSN is great, but a forum would be much more leisurly. (Nice spelling, huh?)
Don't know, you guys have all been here longer than I have, so I'll go with the flow, but that's my two cents:)
