Deep Pepper
Today I have a recording session with Chad Smith and Glenn Hughes, bassist for Deep Purple in the mid 1970's. It should be a blast. I haven't recorded with Chad in years. I am very excited about rocking with my long time friend again. I'll let you know how it goes. The track is like a 70's rock meets Rage Against the Machine vibe. Total Smith style. Here are a few answers.
1. Wasn't this book completed BEFORE you started dating Carmen or have you actually added more chapters to this book including the past year?
Yes, it was, but I have added a chapter about where my life is now. However, the news report is wrong as we didn't write it together and it is not about our marriage, although our marriage does come up. The book is mainly about getting through the rough times and coming out the other side in a better place spiritually, emotionally and physically.
2. Any words of wisdom you could share to help get over a girl?
Let time do it's magic and pray for her happiness and the ability to let go of resentment.
3. how did you get iggy to perform with you? (w/RHCP)
Well, he came to the show as an observer and we just asked him. It was one of the most exciting nights of my life professionally, speaking.
4. Hey, since Perk will be filling in for Camp Freddy for a bit, will the other Steve be joining you guys on stage at all?
Yes, we are doing a show for NASCAR on September 4th. Steve I will be joining us.
5. I talked to Steve and we are going to try to have this chat about The Panic Agency tomorrow at 1pm PST on MSN. I don't know if you're free then, but if you are feel free to join us.
I would love to, but that recording session is today.
6. have you ever been suicidal?
Yes. You got to move through it man. I know if I had killed myself, I'd really want to kill myself. You know what I mean? I am no expert but I would seriously seek the advice of a therapist. It may not seem like it now, but life is a gift.
7. Many people claim how much of a dick Gene Simmons is to his fans. Seeing as you recorded with him, what kinda of a guy is he?
I never heard that. He was perfectly nice to me and I am a long time fan.
8. So what was it like playing on "oh my god" with guns and roses? Did you actually meet with Axl and the band or did you record your guitar parts separately on your own?
I have met him many times before, but during the session, he was not there. He and I worked via speaker phone. It was really trippy, but kind of cool in a twisted way. What a mysterious guy.
9. Dave, how does it feel to have a second guitar in the band?
It very cool. We can layer and add textures in a live situation. I definitely have more freedom.
10. I remember Anthony saying something like, "Dave didn't like this idea" about you performing with the big light bulbs on your head. I was just wondering what you thought about it in your own words because I thought the light bulbs were kind of gay too.
You know what? I did hate those things because they were so hard to play with on. Yet, somehow, I have come around since then and I am really glad we did it. The pictures from that day were hilarious!
Peace my friends,
Dave

DN,
Glenn Hughes is amazing and will blow you away, especially his vocals. Tell him "Wayne and Garth" in Orlando said hello, he's an old friend.
Enjoy,
Mike

Just bumping this up a bit....
"Again this is not to keep 6767 friends from getting it. This is to keep people who find the site online and are not members of the community to leech from me.
I have plans to upgrade the server, but its just not in the budget yet.
Love as always
WhitePony"
After the above post, I had a conversation with Anthony, who has consented to accepting a little help to upgrade his server, etc.
Obviously, he has done a awful lot on his own there, which I for one really have appreciated tremendously. I am happy to send him a little donation to help out and, if anyone else is interested in pitching in, Anthony's paypal info is the same as his email: theunit69@hotmail.com

Take a snippet of video and up it on up in the downloads section!

Hey Dave, In a recent interview with Flea in Mojo magazine, Flea said that he wrote a lot of OHM on acoustic guitar, and that he wasnt very good at guitar. Just curious how true that statment is. When you joined rhcp was there material already written for you to work with? Where there any songs that you brought to the table?
Thanks!

Dave,
I'll make a copy of the chat with Steve and FreAk and Whitepony and email it to you so you don't fall out of the loop. Have fun at the recording session.

Hi Dave.
Jane's "Kettle Whistle" is one of the most beautiful songs ever. How did it get written? I'd love to know anything you'd like to say about the song or what influenced its creation or how it got written.
Thanks Dave!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to say I've been a fan of Dave's for about 15 years. So, thank you so much for this site. I find it incredible that you spend time with fans this way. I would also like to thank Dave for showing me a side of Carmen I didn't know. When I first heard you were dating, I was like, WHY? But then I got to see her through your eyes, and I realized what an amazing person she is! I realized that my initial impression was WAY off...so I want to thank you for that as well. Much happiness to you both!

and a question for dave. having witnessed a lot of alcoholism in my family (i'd say 3/4 of my family suffers from it) and witnessing personality differences between being sober and intoxicated...do you feel there is a big personality difference in yourself when your sober versus on drugs? sorry if this is a personal question...it's just query of mine, cause i've seen evidence of it in my family. i'm glad, ecstatic even, that you're happy and you're going to work with chad smith again! hope it goes well. and i can't wait for the book either! glad to see everything's going well...much love to ya
and much love to the fam! just wanted to shout out and thank everyone here for making my day better the past two days...so thanks guys! it's so amazing the loving vibe here...i come here and i automatically smile!

What a cool sounding project...What is it for?
Glenn played with another one of my favorite guitarists ...Tommy Bolin.
What a tragic loss:(
I have a cool bootleg video of Tommy, Glenn and David Coverdale in Deep Purple. Glenn's hair is to his waist and he' wearing a tight white jumpsuit :O

Cori... Glad you like the artwork! :)
Emily... I know your question was to Dave, but I'm gonna toss in my two cents if you don't mind. :)
I'd have to say that there's a definite difference in my personality without the drugs. There's the obvious reasons why... such as not worrying about scoring my next hit, not worrying about hiding my addiction from other people, that kind of thing... and then there's the not-so-obvious factors. I'm much more grounded and focused now... much more at peace with who I am and what I can and can not do, and much more in touch with my soul. I have much more self-confidence and a much higher sense of self-worth. Even after 21 years of being clean (as of yesterday), I'm still finding that NOT being chemically altered is an incredible experience. I'm able to see life as a gift now, rather than a burden... so my whole perspective has changed for the better.
Dave... Thanks again for using my artwork! :) You've managed to make my week already... You ROCK, Dave! :D
Wanted to say 'HI!' to the family... much love and respect to all of you...
And on that note... I think it's dinner time.. LOL
Peace,
Tim/Panic Agent Nitewing

Kia ora Dave and all the Family,
I was wondering (and this is for all of you) about your thoughts on crystal meth (called 'ice' out here in Hawaii). Here, it's a huge epidemic. I mean, HUGE. When I last visited Hawaii a little over a year ago, my friends and family members were 'normal'. I moved here last month and I can't count how friends have become addicted and strung out. It's the nastiest thing I have ever seen. Families torn apart. Children left to fend for themselves. Grandparents forced to reassume the roles of parent to their grandchildren.
Is this a drug any one of you (including Dave) has tried? What's the appeal? How bad is it in your communities?
Posted by: tiare at August 18, 2004 05:49 PM
Tiare -
Yes, I have tried it...actally years ago used it quite a lot. It is VERY addictive...you think you're just going to do it on Friday night...you stay awake all weekend, have fun with your friends, who are all doing it as well...feel great...maybe you need just a little more on Saturday night to carry it over...then maybe you need just a little to help you get to work on Monday...before you know it, you're totally addicted.
That is a very simplified version of how it happens...but the stuff is very, very easy to become addicted to and does horrible things to you, once you do get hooked. I managed to stop before too much damage was done, but my 1st Husband did not and became a crazed, violent psyco.
Thank God those days are long behind me...it was a nightmare.
Posted by: Cori at August 18, 2004 05:57 PM
I have tried Crystal Meth a bunch of times when I was younger it and exstacy used to be pretty trendy drugs awhile ago. I admit it can be a pretty good party drug becuase personally I could stay up and drink all night on it without getting drowsy. I wouldn't recommend it though it is very bad for you.

Hey Dave. Thanks for all of the honesty and insight you are providing for us. I know it's an all-star kinda' thing, but what are the chances of a semi-sucessful drummer, LA native and huge Jane's fan getting the opportunity to drum with Camp Freddy or with you in some way?! I seem to have a hard time finding inspiring, motivated and interesting musicians to rock with.

Hola 6767 Fam:
Agency news: had a chat with Freak, Pony and BradK today, and will in coming weeks have a full message board up on www.thepanicagency.com. We will move alot of "community", "Panic Agency", and "off topic" conversaions over there. Ellen, that would be a great place to do the daily topics. It will take a bit for the transfer to go through, then that will be the solid place to sign up as an agent, brainstorm ideas, make loops, send in artwork, anything the comunity wants. Much thanks to everyone for being so inspiring and interesting on this site. It grew so fast, we're renting larger internet "digs" - nice work! And thanks to Freak, Pony, and BradK for helping get this next phase happening!

"I never heard that. He was perfectly nice to me and I am a long time fan."
ya man. like there is this big issue goin on right now about how there is this yearly KISS convention where all the Kiss fans come and supposedly soom bootlegs get passed around, but recently at this last one Gene got his attorneys together and i guess the police came and raided the place at Gene's call. and many fans got arrested for possessing the bootlegs. I mean i know the boots were probably illegal, but i mean these are his own fans, i don't believe that is right.

Dave-just wondering if you ever heard the c.d. Grace from Jeff Buckley. If so,any thoughts on it?
Posted by: chaos at August 19, 2004 12:50 AM
Hey Dave,
don't you DARE let Mortisha8 be the moderator of the new forums. she is a backstabbing liar who took it upon herself to ban at least a dozen members from the RHCP board just because she personally did not get along with them.
Many of which, i might add, were banned simply for TALKING ABOUT DAVE NAVARRO (imagine that)
Hey Maria, i guess you leave out the parts that make you look bad right? feel free to explain why you were so negative towards Dave Navarro fans just under a year ago, and now you want to run his forum.
Also, Dave, if you haven't noticed, the only time she ever shows up here is to try and use her connections to her Ex boyfriend blackie to somehow make contact with you (examples : 2 instances in which she wanted to help you clean your garage, and now another in which she wants to run your bulletin board)
She's insane. Please distance yourself from her.
Posted by: Six7Six7 at August 19, 2004 01:42 AM
Also, Dave...
How about letting the OLD SCHOOL Unis (you know, the ones you have spoken to personally for the last 5 ot 6 years) be the moderators of the forum?
I nominate DEENA. You can't go wrong with her. Either of the 2 Lisas as well.
I also would like to nominate.....ME....Six7Six7. I've been SPREADing your word and worshiping your music as long as i can remember.
Posted by: Six7Six7 at August 19, 2004 01:52 AM
six7 is right
don't let mortisha moderate the forum
she's a backstabbing bitch and a horrible moderator
I would absolutely hate it if she ruined the Panic Channel message board as well as the RHCP board
Posted by: celluloid love at August 19, 2004 02:00 AM
hey dave, im sure your pretty sick of RHCP related questions, thats all part of your past and its an experience you have had and moved on from...but...myself and many many john fans would love to see you and him doing a collaboration...im sure if you got in touch it would all happen..john is doing so much experimental stuff right now with many different artists and styles, your both extremely talented musicians, fuck its gotta happen my man! try and make it happen!
your a cool guy dave, very respectful! take care and be well!
Posted by: Kevin McAleese at August 19, 2004 02:45 AM
Maria, I'm glad you've taken the time to look into Dave's music and you clearly like it or you wouldn't be here.
The fact remains though that you DID conduct a witchhunt of Dave Navarro fans on the RHCP BBS, you did abuse your position to act on personal grudges, banning the core membership of the board who spoke out against you doing so (all of whom happened to be Navarro fans - coincidence? Hmmm...) and you did slate Dave Navarro, his work and his fans at every given opportunity.
I am amazed that you have the cheek to ask to control this board. I would say 'run' this board but lets face it, it's control and power that you crave. You can't be trusted.

Hey Dave & my fellow Panic Agents-
How are ya? Tell Chad I say hi. I got to meet him at the Malibu Inn when he guest drummed with Chevy Metal a couple wks ago. I felt rude bothering him but he was the nicest guy ever, so gracious & great to talk to- and his wife is a total sweetheart. We chatted a bunch about the Peppers & I told him how I met you a couple wks earlier, too, and he was like, no kidding, how's Dave doing! How excellent that you're recording together again. I, for one, am very excited to hear that collaboration.
Thanks for answering the Iggy Pop question. Right on. That was such an incredible event to witness, let me tell you! My best friend & I were like, "No f- way!" We couldn't even tell until you started jamming, then we flipped out naturally. our seats were so bad haha
What a cool summer! I know that sounds corny, but it has been so exciting meeting musicians, such as yourselves and Steve Isaacs (what up bro!) during the past couple mos. I've been in town. I definitely have some crazy stories to tell the folks back home fo' sho.
While I'm sad to leave LA, I'm very excited about my future back in NY. Although it's still a bit TBD, I know it's the right decision for me to move back for now. I've still got the Filter gig going on & I'll have to see what else I can pick up back in NY. I'm really hopeful for my future writing & producing ventures...you'll all see soon enough hehe...I'm actually not done packing haha...I'm such a slacker, geez.
Much love always. I feel proud to have this community- it has definitely been helpful during this strange transition period for me. I'm leaving for Mizzou tomorrow to pack up my stuff then move to NYC (ok fine, NJ...for now haha) in another week. I don't want to jinx my school acceptance, but I should know by Monday- so I'm told- if it works out. (gulp!) So scary...but I just have to trust that whatever happens is meant to be and I will make the most out of whatever's thrown my way, even though it will be hard as hell either way!
Well, goodnight all. I'll be back on in a couple days. Hopefully sooner than later.
XOXO
PS Check out the new Rolling Stone with Tom Cruise on the cover...there is a juicy story told by Jenna Jameson on her romps with Manson...I know Dave & a bunch of you other Panic Agents are big Manson fans (she's got a book coming out soon 'How to...Make Love Like a Pornstar', so they excerpted the Manson tale...)

So scary...but I just have to trust that whatever happens is meant to be and I will make the most out of whatever's thrown my way, even though it will be hard as hell either way!

"Agency news: had a chat with Freak, Pony and BradK today, and will in coming weeks have a full message board up on www.thepanicagency.com. We will move alot of "community", "Panic Agency", and "off topic" conversaions over there."
Thank God. And the boys! Nice job, you guys.

hellu (:
oh, you don't know the temptation of saying 'wow I think you looked really hot in the light bulb costume' as some kind of cheesy double-entendre... ahem. yeah.
70s rock meets RATM? That's... an interesting sounding idea - good interesting!
and as for this Panic Agency thing that I've sort-of been reading... I don't know if it's just me speaking from the little isle but as a GMT girl it is all very confusing and whatnot. damn you, whoever decided on region times! *scowls and waves her hands in a scowly manner*
have you heard Ataxia yet? Automatic Writing is very shibby. I don't know, one of the tracks, I think it was... oh jesus, five tracks and I don't remember which one it was... reminded me of Sunny Day a bit... might have been Addition... anyway. yeah. 'tis very nice.
*cough*you and John should get together sometime*cough*

hi dave
what do you mean when you said " the sugar never help" in the song rexall
Posted by: laura at August 19, 2004 06:56 AM
Well done to freak, whitepony, and bradk; for all the work, and getting things moving, like Steve said.
And"it's all good." I just love that. It's become part of my everyday lingo. :D
Be good to have a place for ppl to chat, interact, exchange ideas, etc. Happy familes, hey remember familes fight too. I mean have disagreements, and still stick with each other. Like the Osbournes.
Happy birthday reckless princess!
Love

my experience with The RHCP board, I think has simply become too big. I signed up a while ago, and I just didn't really go on there, couldn't get a good conversation going really. I wondered too why at the sign up it says you can go ahead and swear, because you look silly doing this kind of stuff *&@*!; but if you write a quite normal word on there as in the word sex, it gets blocked. Plus the word was being used in relation to someone's tattoo art, and what it was. That stops the flow of communication. I know you have to be safe, but really. Censorship?

dave, when someone asks what gear you play with, do you copy and paste the answer or type it out every single fucking time?
Posted by: wally at August 19, 2004 08:53 AM
Dave's gear is posted over on the FAQ at my site but it doesn't look like its gettting read.

oh lord, I apologize for even mentioning anything RHCP.
I was just offering a helping hand. It is obviously up to Dave and his crew who he puts as help on the board.
and besides, it's not like I'm the only moderator on there that has moderated or banned anyone. I beleive strongly in freedom of speech, but when the insults start flying (not just about the RHCP but about the posters personally) and that negative vibe between people comes in, that is crossing the line and I do not see how it makes a good message board. I do not know anyone who likes to be ganged up on or insulted, and what fan wants to read people posting shit about their favorite band?
I believe there are plenty of other people on there who don't have any complaints about the board. I don't see the people that asked me to be an Admin complaining about me. Although I do admit since infopop upgraded to EVE it's been a pain in the butt for the admins and mods to do work behind the scenes and it has been giving the users trouble.
and the trigger words are for those who use text talk and cannot spell. If there are swear words as trigger words, i am not aware of them. I'll have to check on that.
but whatever. I have barely been doing any moderator or administrator work on there at all in a while.
No matter what you do, you can't please everyone.
peace

Pony, it really doesn't make any sense for an FAQ to be posted anywhere else but this site. Think about it -- people are not going to jump from Dave's own site to another to find out about him. Like if you came to my site, would you then jump to Ellen's to learn about me? See, that's what I mean? It's just not a reasonable expectation. Note all the great info on Jen's kickass site. Are people checking that out before asking questions here? Nope.
You guys are probably starting to hate me now for speaking my mind, but I really don't care, since I make damn good sense! :p
Posted by: Dana at August 19, 2004 09:23 AM
Cancel that question mark after "see, that's what I mean" if you want that to read right. I hate when I can't fix my friggin mistakes.
Posted by: Dana at August 19, 2004 09:25 AM
Dana,
I agree with you. Dave simply asked that i get the faq up so I did.

Well Pony, now he knows the error of his ways.
Haha! Just kidding. Actually, I was under the impression that you were creating that for him to post here, or I probably would have said that sooner. :)
Posted by: Dana at August 19, 2004 09:36 AM
And please, no censoring on the new site. I motherfucking hate that goddamn bullshit. :p
Posted by: Dana at August 19, 2004 09:38 AM
