CFR Indie 103.1

tattoo_shirt_thmbTonight is yet another edition of Camp Freddy Radio. Michael Des Barres will be stopping by the studio to talk about an upcoming film festival and perhaps to tell another one of his legendary stories. The show is on Indie 103.1 from 6pm-8pm Pacific. Check the Indie 103.1 link for web simulcast. We love to take calls, so those of you in another time zone, be aware that there is a 8 minute delay on the web.

1. Who is doing the singing on deconstruction? I’ve always assumed it was Eric Avery except on Big Sur.

It is Eric Avery with the exception of Big Sur, which is yours truly. I also handle most of the melodic harmonies and outro stuff.

2. Do you plan on doing any vocals anytime soon?

Well, most of that will be Steve I in the Panic Channel, but I will be doing a lot of back-ups and harmonies.

3. How do musicians in your position get paid? I realize you receive royalties from your prior work, but how do you receive them? Like every month? From who? For publishing rights etc.?

Good question. It is certainly not from selling records, I can assure you. I would say mostly from touring.

4. Can you give us an update on any CF all-star lineups (ex. Morrissey) in the works?

No because that stuff really falls into place at the very last minute from show to show. I know we have a couple of shows booked for September, but we haven't even thought about who might join us. I can tell you that Perkins will be sitting in, as Sorum will be out with Velvet Revolver.

5. Is there anywhere that has a complete listing of everything you've done? If not I think I just very well have my next idea for content on my site...

There has got to be somewhere. I know I couldn't even begin to remember everything. Try here. They seem to have a handle on all that kind of stuff.

6. I am an aspiring screenwriter. I wrote a script that I think you would be perfect for.

Thank you, I am touched, but I am not really looking to do any acting. Good luck.

7. How does it feel to have done something so amazing and so mind blowing to the world and realizing that you were so young!

Really great. I am so grateful to all of the people I have been blessed to work with. I owe my career to so many great and talented people. I do thank God.

8. What does a record company do when a band has signed on for 4 albums or something and they break up before releasing all of those?

I don't know... but I should have an answer to that within the next few months... (gulp)

9. Of all your very interesting and awesome tattoos, which one do you like the most or do you feel has the most meaning?

Right now it is my latest one. It says, "eleven twenty-two". Our wedding date.

10. The loop from Saraswati is quite cool, as it’s long enough and already have some variations in it. I wud recommend that one to start with, and get some of the other loops converted to be used as fills or extras. If someone could av a look to that Saraswati loop, and come up with some kind of structure...

Sounds good to me FreAk.

Love…

Damn! I won't be able to join the chat tonight :-(
I have a family affair to go to...darn lol. oh well...i hope it's a fun and interesting chat.

Does anyone know where i can find transcripts of past Dave appearances and the Camp Freddy radio shows...i can't get my computer to get on line with the radio or something like that. I'd be much appreciative.

Just saying hello to everyone and hoping everyone is doing well!

And Ellen...don't go back to the U of Missouri! please...i think either the LA art school or NYU (i'm a supporter of nyu personally lol) are much better. that's just my two cents though!

No questions to ask...lol...just wanted to show my support once again.

Love, Emily

namaste!

i wish i could break up with my girl at 6 AM just to be in time for ear the CF show here in italy! unfortunately i'll be rather in bed sleeping with her.

Dave! do you know the cartoonist Gary Larson? i don't think anyone ever made my laugh like he did since about 9 years ago! (this question about the very amusing link you've submitted days ago with childlike drawings mixed with hirony, violence and nonsense).

Probably the web is unprovided of comics by larson due to rights questions. but for those who don't know his work i suggest to search for them ("the far side" and similar)!

shame on my english if there's any purist of the english language

Hey Dave,
now that you older do you explore your hispanic roots?
I know you've said in the past that growing up you didn't because you lived with your mum who was white and blonde in Bel Air, how about now? I got to say I nearly fell off my chair when you mentioned IDDUP you was hispanic, i know it shouldn't be a surprise with a surname like your's but Janes Addiction was sOOOOOOOOOO vocal about being jewish, and the garms they would wear during chip aways tended to reflex their culture.
I like the fact that you mention your ethnicity because there are so many stereo types out here (USA) and you break them all.

Posted by: S.E.4 at August 7, 2004 10:57 AM

Oh and Dave,
when can we expect another solo album TNO was blinding!

Posted by: S.E.4 at August 7, 2004 11:15 AM

Finally got my speakers working, it seems most of the lyrics i have read are pretty dark...well in comparison to the sound files submitted anyway.
There surely needs to be some kind of genre selected so the two can mix well?
Being biased as I love funk beats im loving the work submitted by chickbassplayer1@comcast.net. However i can't see it lining up with any of the lyrics :oS.
Although i can't submit because of recording problems im really loving the whole vibe.
Keep it up guys!

Also what other cosmetic and styling product do you reccomend? Your complection seems very nice as well.

hi Dave,

Firstly thanks for comin to Scotland, i saw you in Glasgow and it was the best gig ive ever been to.

Is there a guitar only version of "fighter"? id love to hear the solo but its turned down in the mix.

Also will Rhimorse ever be released?

Thanks
Pete

Dave, are you a spiritual person? Do you believe in a higher power?

Posted by: americanzer0 at August 7, 2004 01:52 PM

David J--- he's the best. My favorite musician.
When you guys were bass-less, you called him and together created the tune "Strays."

Did you ever consider asking David J to join Jane's? Was it ever in the back of your mind?

(Hey, Chaney is awesome. So don't take this as an insult.)

Posted by: Joshua at August 7, 2004 01:52 PM

Hey finally got my sister to submit some bass grooves....she's bad ass for real...the short loops don't do her justice thou!!! Thank u Dave for posting them! Thanx to RobK for the props!!
Chat with u's later hopefully...Take Care and God Bless

***Hey, what is the longest you've been without sleep (and perhaps why?)

***and what do you do to cure insomnia when you get it?

I have been averaging 3hrs a night now and I just thought you or some people on here would have some good ideas! Thanks!
--Bonnie

Ps- Some more people should make and link salutes for Dave.. maybe if he gets enough he can use them as his daily icon or something.. Just a weird idea I have and rather like still, which is unusual for me. :D And some salutes/exclusive pics from Dave of course would rock the planet! good day, I am off to slave for a toy store for many hours! <3 <3

Posted by: Bonnie at August 7, 2004 03:15 PM

Hey FreAK..
You should consider going to

http://www.bravenet.com

and registering a free quick name like mine... they have like clik.to, embark.to, wakeup.to, and such others as that.. because I noticed how long your url is and i think it could help boost you sites stats! Anyone else here should consider it too.. the only price you pay is a pop up from bravenet, but hey-- its better than people not going because your URL is like

members.site.com/subcat/username/site.html

or something like that. hahah-- I know it made my site get 6 times the amount of hits a day for the first few days!! Thanks for your ear..

--bonnie

Ps-- if anyone would like me to do this for them, send me your desired bravente username and URL, I will sign you up and make a quick URL.. :D But if youre savvy enough to do this yourself then please dont abuse this offer.. :D

here are the diff URLs they offer

clik.to/
clix.to/
trak.to/
dear.to/
takeoff.to/
wakeup.to/
embark.to/
destined.to/
devoted.to/
get-me.to/
committed.to/
singshot.to/
continue.to/

And do not forget to offer alternatives incase your idea is taken.. like get-me.to/funkytown is taken so dont ask..I already tried. <3

hi dave.
Im started up a new band at the moment. I play the guitar, sing & write songs. Im making demo's at the moment. And then sending it back to myself through the post as a form of copywrite. As i may require to send these songs out to other musicians, for them to listen..

With your experience, is this a good way of copywrite? Or how do you protect your music with copywrite issues/keeping fresh ideas safe?

Thanx 4 everything!

Posted by: Murat at August 7, 2004 03:46 PM

Dave, when you started out in music, or even with Janes, did you or your bands ever get any harsh criticism that made you think, "Damn, maybe I should just quit now" or "Hell, Im not good enough, Im wasting my time" ???

Posted by: Kyle at August 7, 2004 04:45 PM

So I heard that Been Caught Stealing was confirmed to be in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. That's too awesome, I love the GTA games and that song being in it makes it way better. What do you think about it?

Posted by: Sean at August 7, 2004 05:09 PM

Bonnie...a great trick that always works for me regarding sleep is mixing chamomile tea with milk, and a Tylenol PM (i don't know where you're from so they might not have it). it works within a half hour. it's a tried and true formula for me. and that pic of you was really nice and cute!! don't be ashamed/chickened out by it lol

and for once...a weird question for dave. Have you ever seen the movie Donnie Darko? if you have what did you think of it? and if not...i highly recommend it.

have fun with the chat and camp freddy radio everyone!

I have tried to reach you by phone at indie 103.1, it only rings no one answers... hmmm.... anyways you mentioned SCREAM. I was a VIP card carrier. Jane's addiction played at my 19th birthday.

I am a huge fan of Indie, Camp Freddie, you Dave and Carmen. Hopefully next time I will get thru!!

Hi Colleen,

I was listening to CFR & heard you talking to Dave.

Hey girl....you finally got through, Dave even remembered your name & Angels!

I was having a few comp problems, with the show cutting off every 10 minutes or so.
Did you win a substitute prize? Did you get back on the air?

Cool that you got through. Missed you mentioning the 'unicorn', must have been hysterical!

The show was pretty funny tonight. Dave blurting out that Manson info was hilarious!
Did he say what I think he did?? He kept repeating; "I know we're going off the air..."

Stay cool!

What is the story with calling in to the station? The phone seems to hang up after a minute or so and I'm not sure if that's happening on my cell phone or on the station's end. Any instructions for people trying to call in other than the usual? There were a couple of people on MSN tonight trying to call from EU and racking up a huge bill from what they said. Any way to help them out next time? Oh yeah and what happened to my Maryann Faithful request as if I didn't know!

Posted by: ONEIDA fish at August 7, 2004 08:21 PM

With regards to calling Indie 103.1-
If your call doesn't get picked up within 1 min 5-7 sec, their phone system drops your call. Happens whenever there's high call volume. As for calling from overseas... sorry, can't help. Hope this was useful,

Dave,
All the talk, all the teases. When...When will 6767.com visitors be able to hear a sample of "The Panic Channel", even a work in progress?

Posted by: Pete at August 7, 2004 09:22 PM

I saw Jane's recently at Irving Plaza in 2003. Did you guys record that show? Reason I am asking is there was a soundboard on the floor that was never there before or since. Show was badass. Cant wait for Freddy in Sept.

Posted by: pete at August 7, 2004 09:25 PM

Hey classicgirl! Thanks, so just keep trying to call in, huh? Thanks to everybody recording, posting and sending around links. I didn't see that someone posted the ENTIRE Decon album did I??? I have three cuts but would like to have them all. Will keep looking around. Haven't been online for a week and look at all the catching up I have to do!!! PROlific bunch!

So Dave...
You asked for relationship problems today on CFR... here's mine: There are no more good men... and... possibly women... in LA!
#1- I am 27
#2- I am cute
#3- I am voluptuous... (that is not code for overweight, it means I have nice tits and hips)
#4- I have a great career, I have my own apartment, a car... financially stable on my own
#5- Very easy to get along with, not uptight at all... great taste in music and fashion
#6- Intelligent!
#7- Every time that I have spoken to you on CFR you have told me that I "sounded hot" (to quote you)!!
Every guy that I meet is fresh out of jail, a whore, or living with Mommy... what am I doing wrong? Any help, including those in the community, is appreciated.
HEY DAVE, HOW ABOUT HOOKING ME UP ON A BLIND DATE... HEY, IT WORKED FOR YOU!!!

Hiya all, Dave really enjoyed the show early this morning 3am Cheers for the shout out :)
To all the guys & gals on the Msn chat that was excellent fun, Colleen way to go girl!

Sandy, I figured out that maybe with a mobile is not the best way to call the show as when you are calling from overseas the person receiving the call also has to pay a substantial amount for it too (the mobile companies must be making a fortune out of this scam! people end up paying twice for the same call.)

Well have a lovely Sunday everyone,

plus...i would really appreciate it (as would others who missed the radio show) if someone could go over the highlights of the show...not every little detail but the 6767 stuff etc like that! thanks so much
