Awake
Good morning. Nothing much to report today. We are still waiting for Steve's computer to be up and running. He is handling so much of the art and web design, not to mention singing and writing. What a motivated guy. Once he is back online, we can pick up with all of the content and Agency stuff.
1. When did you play with Siouxsie? That's cool as hell.
A couple of times on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour.
2. Is it true that flea is bi??????
I have never seen evidence of that. He has never come on to me. If he is, then I feel a little insulted!
3. what do you think of Ken Andrews? (Failure, On, Year of the Rabbit)
He is the s@#t. I almost did TNO with him. Very cool guy and extremely talented.
4. How do you know when it's time to stop writing new material and whittle down what you've written to an albums worth of material?
Well, we kind of want to have 20 to choose from, but we also are thinking about putting out several EP's over the course of a year instead of waiting for a full LP. We really haven't decided yet.
5. I heard that flea said he had to pick up a guitar during the ohm record. He said something to the point of that you were not as creative as with the chili's than with Jane's...?
I really wasn't. I guess that is one of the reasons it didn't work out that great. I mean, we became great friends and had a terrific time, but musically, we just came from different places.
6. Dave, when you see bands like apc, audioslave, velvet revolver, i.e. morphs of other bands, have the kind of success they have, does that give you guys added confidence in what you're doing?
Well, I feel a kinship of sorts. Ultimately, it makes me wonder if there was as much animosity and resentment directed at those bands as there is at us.
7. Just wondering if you ever listen to the One Hot Minute record and if so, what's your favorite track off of it?
I still love Warped.
8. Do you have any advice for me about writing my own music?
As someone else posted, and I agree, just write what you know and love. Approach your writing with fearlessness and conviction.
9. Dave... Someone else that'd be great on the CF album would be Mark McGrath. I know he's done some shows with CF in the past, so maybe he'd be down for guesting on the album...
Last I heard he is in for a cover of Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak.
10. how does it feel to have these huge gaps in your memory?
It is odd. Sometimes I wish I could remember certain things, other times, I am glad that I can't!
Beautiful Day,
Dave

You know, I've been reading this board for a while and I never 'got' the excitement when Dave answered a question posted by a 6767 family member ... til today *does the Dave-answered-my-question happy dance* ... it really is a rush ... Thanks Dave!

Heh@Tiare :)
So how's everyone doing?
Dave, have you saved the files from the old 6767.com?
I loved that place, it felt like I was getting lost every time (probably because I kept looking for the clip from 'Whore' once posted under an image that later took me to the anacam site) Such beautiful madness (:
Have a good one!

Good morning (good evening in Dublin) Dave,
Thanks for answering my question; it's made a crappy day a bit better! I'll see if I can try my look with another question. Do you prefer writing, recording or road testing new material and for what reason? Thanks again and keep rocking like a bastard!!

Hi everyone
I read alot of bad things in magazines about One Hot Minute,i loved it,also if it wasn't for Dave and that album the Chili's may well have given up.I admit i can see why some might not have liked it but for me after John left to do what he did,who better to replace him.I like the album and the tunes rock big style.Warped is my favorite too but Deep Kick,Coffee Shop, and Trancsending, all great tunes and we'll never hear them played live again.

Hiya Dave! I was at Lollapalooza 2003 in Portland...which totally rocked...but when Maynard was approached to sing Kashmir he seemed really pissed about it. I thought it was awesome...was he still upset after the show?
Great site...I love the "family" feeling.
Have a great day!!

Hey Dave,
I have a Sidekick too and I have couple of questions about it. First, do you use yours as a phone as well or just for the web and e-mail? Second, did T-Mobile give you one of the new one's that are coming out?
Thanks,
Eric

Dave are you a fan of Tim Burton's movies? The Nightmare Before Christmas has been one of my favourite films since i was 9.
I love the idea of u guys releasing a few eps a year rather than an album cos then perhaps we will get to hear some of the new material faster!
Love always,

Dave I was reading in a web pay that it spoke of your book and it says that your you were violated by the man that I raise you. that is truth? if that is truth, did it affect you?
Posted by: laura at August 24, 2004 02:39 PM
Lisa,
I´ve been insulted by my guitar teacher too when I was younger. At the time I thought I had to take it in order to drain all the knowledge I could get from him. But I eventually got really offended and one day just quit. I just never spoke to him again. To this day I think he is a complete asshole and a total wannabe...
No matter how talented he is I think his gigantic ego will always stand between him and greatness. You´re either born with the mark of a true artist or you´re not, I suppose. It´s not a matter of knowing more scales or playing faster than others... It´s a matter of soul and creating something fresh and unique other people can relate to in a deep emotional way (like Dave did (does), for instace)... But I digress...
Should I have taken so much crap from this person? No. And nowadays I sometims like to think I don´t take crap from nobody (I know, that´s a double negative but I just like the effect of it - seems to emphasize what I´m saying and help me get my point across).
Anyways, my advice is: follow your heart and go find yourself another teacher. There are many humble musicians out there. People who would be willing to inspire and encourage your musical discoveries. You just have to out there and find them. So don´t waste your time.
I hope this helps...
Good luck!
Luiz.

Wow! Thanks you Steve L, and Luiz. Great idea Steve and that made me giggle, and Luiz, too true. I enjoyed reading your post. I'm one of those artistic sensitive souls, and a bit rebellious too. ;) I need to learn guitar and it helps me to have a teacher to keep me to a schedule for one thing, as well as guide me. But I think guide is the operative word there. Also, I love learning, and I'm chomping at the bit I guess.
Emily, that sounds so interesting. I studied psych and fine art, double major, but I graduated in 1988! I'm sure you're learning some newer stuff, thanks to the lively psych community! I gave up the psych part though, after a few years of working in that field. I had some major disagreements with the way things were going. Again, there's the chomping at the bit theme. Hmmm..

Hey Dave and family, hope everyone is well. I had a fun day hanging out with my trainer's little boy, he is four years old and so cute and funny. He was poppin' wheelies on his bike today! He's a crazy little kid.:-)
I'm sure it's been posted before, but where should we send artwork for the site? (Sorry to have to ask such an obvious question)
Funny thing about the same little boy mentioned above, when he was riding a different (too large for him) bike he flipped it, got up and muttered "f@#k!!" LOL I love that kid.:-)

"Who are these people Dave? Janes people?"
No, PERRY FANS. Big difference. it's the people who post on Xiola.org and AintnoRight.com
They aren't fans of Jane's addiction, just Perry Farrell. They love the music until someone stops making it with perry, then they suddenly hate them for no reason.
The collection jane's bootlegs to hear perry's rants. They kiss the ass of perry wife just so they can pretend they are close to him. It's sad and pathetic.
For as many of them who are claiming to understand the "true" jane's addiction, and what jane's "true" spirit really is, they sure do show nothing short of blind perry worship and utter disrespect for the other guys in the band who were 99% of the creative force behind all the albums.
the talk about 2 things as of late...
1. the panic channel and how much the name sucks, the band members suck, the sound clips suck, and skycycle steve sucks.
2. how great the music perry farrell ISN'T MAKING is suddenly going to be without the other 3 guys. And they are dreaming up all the people perry could call to make great music (flea, watt....etc...). But i love that they at least realize without a band, perry is NOTHING.
Jane's people? Far from it. They were NEVER jane's people.

Dave,
Have you ever worked with Nick Oliveri? Would you?
Also, did you like the Verve? I always felt that their guitarist Nick McCabe was the "brit-Navarro". I have a feeling you were one of his biggest influences.
Speaking of guys you obviously influenced....how about Billy Corgan! The first Pumpkins album is so "Janes-y". Has he ever confessed?

I want another tattoo sooooo badly (I have three). My husband is ixnaying the idea. I say since it's my skin, I should be able to decorate any way I want, and since I am gainfully employed and can use my own money for it, I don't think he should be able to tell me not to.
Obviously Carmen doesn't have any issues with your body ink...what do you think about people who don't support their partners getting tattoos?

the tattoos look awesome...apparently tattoo ink seems to fade al ittle bit after the initial inking...cause the bats look darker than the other tattoos unless that was intentional lol...i don't have any tattoos so i wouldn't know...anyone care to explain?
and a really weird question...exactly what color are your eyes?...in some pictures they appear very dark brown and in others almost a hazel color...just curious as to what color they really are. thanks for posting the pics...they're really nice (and so are you...along with being nice looking...lol)

Hi to Dave and the wonderful 6767 community.
OK... so my friend and I have a small bet going and I figured this would be the perfect (and most accurate) place to resolve the issue (it's a silly question, but please bear with me).
Exactly how tall are you?
My friend thinks you are 6'0 ft. while I'm betting more around the 5'8 ft. height range.
If you have the time to answer my silly question (or if any of you 6767 peeps have met him and can answer) I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you so much and keep on rockin'.

Emily,
...both are true about the tattoos! When they are first inked, they look very bright than fade a little...plus they fade over time, especially with sun-exposure....And we all know about Dave and his (lack of) shirts...lol

I always wanted to know how you keep in such good shape? Do you watch what you eat? Strict diet? Do you workout daily? Several times per week? And when you workout how long do you workout for? Do you run and incorporate much cardiovascular into your workout regimen? I know you must workout more than ever before because I am sure now that you're with Carmen she keeps you in line in that aspect, no? Take care Dave!

*cringes about the needle thing* weirdly enough, that doesn't seem to put me off getting a tattoo... I really want to get over my fear of medical/surgical stuff and surgical needles especially because I really want a tattoo when I'm older... anyhows. yeah... an' I really don't see... I dunno, maybe it's just how I read the whole 'is flea bisexual?' thing, makes it sound like a negative thing.
For those of you who aren't bi, then let me put this to you... you are theoretically going to get 50% less sex than I will in your lifetime *cackles*

But yeah...don't fear the needle...lol! It doesn't even look like a needle really and in fact you don't even have to look at it lol! I say get it now so that it will age nicely with you ;)
Good luck with it!

Dave, i would like to make a REQUEST.
I think that since most of the people here are heavily influenced by your music, that you should have AT LEAST a weekly "what i'm listening to" list. Top 3. Top 5. Whatever. Hell, even rate them.
I want to be turned on to good new music, and i think you're a GREAT place to start.

CSI:Miami is cool but the original set in Vagas is cooler (but don't tell Emily I said so ;O))
Hope everyone in the'family' is well.

Dave said "Well, I feel a kinship of sorts. Ultimately, it makes me wonder if there was as much animosity and resentment directed at those bands as there is at us"
As well as that partisanship (PF v. the rest), there's a lot of people really gutted about the breakup of JA. Seemed to me you guys were really finding your feet again as a band ("Just Because", one of the last written, one of the best on that CD) and now we're all not going to hear what the next, great JA album woulda been like.
But for anyone resenting, well, who the hell do you think gave you all that great music you mourn the passing of? Who's choice is it to make, or not make an album together as a band? The fans? Or do the musicians get a choice here??
Hope the record co. are chilled about the multi-album deal you guys had though...
BTW, Dave: I read somewhere that you guys went into the studio to lay down the 'unplugged' version of Just Because - is it true? Did it ever make it out, or do we need to wait for Kettle Whistle II when you guys start talking to each other again in about 2012?

Hey Dave,
Thought your new tats looked pretty cool.
I was watching Jimmy Kimmel last night and Kevin Nealon was on. He said he was also at the celebrity poker thing but he wouldn't give away the secret about who won because it is going to be aired on T.V. Is there any way you could give us here any hints about who the winner was?
Speaking of talk shows are you planning on being on any anytime soon. I watched the week Perry was co-host on the Kimmel show ans thought it was cool. I really liked the day you were on too. I thought it was so funny in that one skit when you and Perry were pretending to be homeless people busking for money on the street!

Dave I just read part of your biography on a website and it said you went to a Catholic High School called Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks. That is so CRAZY! I went to a Catholic High School called Notre Dame too! it is in Burlington, Ontario though.

i read some one saying that vocalists/singers are full of shit. well, how many singers does it take to srcew in a light bulb??? 1, he holds the bulb and the world revolves around him. lol
Dave, nice tats, really awesome.
Luiz old man, im glad you are back chatting, its good to see your name on the screen again.
FreAk, i agree, the online song has kinda died down. i think we should get our focus back and try sit down and get some some parts for the song.
I have sum questions that might get the ball rolling and maybe spark some interest. Has a drum beat/tempo been chosen? do we need to focus more on the drum part?
stay well all

Dude,
My dad was the head football coach for Notre Dame in the late sixties and early seventies. I have all of these monster sized trophies from all the league championships. Lots of great pictures of the "fighting Knights." In fact, I have a picture of myself as a little, little kid with a Brother Alphonso. All of that is way before your time though but small world...Did Stephen go there too? Was it still all boys when you went there? I had the same experience and went to an all boys catholic high school too. I have been trying to unscrew myself ever since!
IMA BOUT TA DO!
Steve
Posted by: Steve at August 25, 2004 09:38 AM
The Notre Dame I went too wasn't an all boys school it was like a Public Catholic High School. Nothing like those sexy little Catholic school girls in short kilts!
Hey Steve from the biogarphy I read on Dave yes Stephen went to Notre Dame with him and their first band together was named Dizastre.

Hi Dave and 6767ers!
first of all: nice new tatts Dave - and the pic in the chair is really enticing....
I hope you and Eric can get together again to make some music - i would really really faint if that happens.
I always thought you two are musical soulmates.....
Six7Six7: I totally agree about the so-called Jane's fans.
It's just sad and i have given up getting into "discussions" with them, its only a useless waste of time.
The top 3 list is also a very good idea.
So, my songs of the week are "Slither" and "Illegal I" by VR....still having it in mind from the gig on Sunday.
love,

Hi Dave! I love the fact that you take time out to give feedback to your fans..it means more, and i'm sure I speak for all of us, than you will ever know. I am a huge fan of yours for some time now, and I wish you the best of luck with Carmen. She's a lucky lady. I will be at the VMA's as well, (it's good to know people) Are you excited for the VMA's? My friend is a model, so hopefully we will be at Carmen's after party..I hope to see you!

P.S
I'm seeing stuff about Perry so here's my 2 cent's
Great in his day(OG Janes)Porno For Pyros(still had it)solo(take or leave it)reformed Jane's(lost that edge)
whatever the reason reason for musicians not wanting to work with him for more than an album is anyones guess maybe he dictates his band instead of collaborating with them,i don't hate him i just wish he could leave his ego at the door when it comes to being creative.
thats all i have to say(hope nobody bites my ass for it)
love

Song List:
Well, it's not very diverse. I 'refound' an old CD, LIVE, Throwing Copper. "All Over You", "Selling The Drama", and "White, Discussion".
Luiz - I suddenly feel better about my God-approved mindless lust, thank you! (whew, that clears up approval for about 75% of my random thought ;)...) BTW, Luiz: I never commented on your tiger tattoos. The artwork is really good, and it was very brave of you to go for the inner forearm; that can't be the easiest place for a tattoo, right?
Have a great day guys! xo

hey luiz...i'm game for the top five songs i'm listening to now.
1. Incubus-Pistola
2. Soundgarden- Blow up the outside world
3. Cibo Matto- Apple
4. Incubus- Here in my room
5. Fiona Apple- Limp
very varied list i know lol. and on the perry topic...i don't know much about what went on behind the scenes...but it does seem to me that people have difficulty staying with perry...i think that speaks more on his character, especially when the three members of the revived Jane's Addiction all continue to make music together, without a problem it seems. but that's just my two cents...i really can't comment beyond that...but i love dave!! i do know that much!! i think he's awesome! lol...that's my overzealous exclamations for the day lol...much love and respect to all!!!!

Dave... the new ink ROCKS, bro! Can't imagine getting slashed by the needle though... Ouch!
I'm so glad it's Wednesday... working the hours from hell during the week from hell and already I'm just about wiped out. It needs to be Friday, already! :)
About the lust thing... "Mindless lust" IS a god-given right... and it's one that must be exorcised regularly. ;)
Luiz... good to see you back on...
Now about those five songs... I've got six CD's I'm wearing out right now...
Deconstruction
TNO
Evanescence - Fallen
Stevie Nicks - Trouble in Shangri La
Annie Lennox - Bare
George Michael - Patience
Yes... I know it's an ecclectic mix, but that's how I am. I love all kinds of music... LOL
Sophia... on the "fear of needles/medical stuff" thing... When it comes to tats, needles don't bother me... I've never actually feared needles, but I've never really LIKED them, either. But with tats it's just... different.
And on the "bi" thing... Nothing wrong with expanding your horizions and having more options... ;) LOL
Ok... I've rambled enough.
Love and respect to the Family and Dave...
Peace,
Tim/Panic Agent Nitewing

"Well, I feel a kinship of sorts. Ultimately, it makes me wonder if there was as much animosity and resentment directed at those bands as there is at us."
Dave,
To be fair, its not so much animosity as it was shock and dismay. Of course, it shouldn't be shocking given the past history but no one wanted to believe it could happen. Janes had/has a cult following. Each original member of the band is regarded as quite possibly the best at what they do. Perry also has a cult following related to his words and art. To see his band mates walk away from him must have made everyone think "how could they do that"? Then to hear he found out via the internet, if it is true, seemed like a low blow. I imagine you probably can't talk about the nature of the break-up for legal reasons or whatever. It would be nice to understand what happened. I'll listen to your next record even ifI am more shocked at the singer you chose than the Janes breakup. By the way, what is up with all the media whore celebrity crap?
By the way the amnews in nyc described don't try this at home as a sex book you did with carmen in todays edition.
Posted by: dave at August 25, 2004 06:07 PM

Luiz~"Rebel Rebel", my Dad said that was my song!
What a coincidence. I don't think he listened to all the words though.
I was going to answer questions people asked, now I'm lost.
And I think they've been answered.
The song project~tempo is 98. right now. i'm sure it's open to change though.
I've been playing around with it, and recording drumming, but lack protools so it's not sounding very professional. fun though, and i have been thinking about it.
These comments are getting so long, so I'll cut it short.
Dave, is going to have a tough time picking out questions!!
Love to all

My quick thoughts:
Perry is great, but I know Dave won't disappoint us with what he has planned for the future.
Daves Hummer is over shadowed greatly by that beautiful Buick:)
I have two months to find a good "Zombie" picture for a tatoo.
And i need a new idea for a music related website, as a new side project I'd like to work on. Any ideas are appreciated.
Dave, I think I've said it before, but allow me to say it again: All these things you do... from charity to the respect and love you show all of us... they make you a truley unique individual, and my respect for you as a person ablove all is boundless. Thanks for everything you've given, and all you'll be giving in the future. You're a great person in many ways, and many of us have a lot to learn from someone that uses their celebrity to touch the people that listen to every word you say.
Have a great day:)
