Another Quick 10
1. Think you might work with Rich Costey for your Panic Channel stuff? He's a great producer and I love how he mixes albums.
I love Rich. He did TNO. Honestly we aren't even close to a decision yet, but his name is definitely in the hat.
2. Hey Dave, how's Carmen's coke habit?
Still going strong! (And I know what you mean. The beverage...)
3. so yes, Dave I'd like to know what you do to keep yourself inspired to play, and if you ever went through this. maybe you were just more determined than I am,
I play with as many people as I can from different walks of musical life to keep my playing continually interesting and challenging.
4. In an interview with Anthony Kiedis from 1999, someone asked him about a "cup throwing incident" in Chicago while on tour with the offspring. What happened?
Wow! I don't remember that, but I do know that Anthony is never one to take any s@#t!
5. Dave, are you ever emotional when you hear a certain song or part of a song that helps you truly understand what and how you feel, or brings you back to an event?
Oh my God, yes. It's usually a song from my childhood, one that I am unaware of until I hear it like The Carpenters or Gordon Lightfoot or Paul Williams. I instantly weep.
6. Anyway you mentioned that NIN is probably your favorite modern band, so what's your favorite NIN song and album?
Right now The Fragile is my favorite, probably because it is the most recent and I have worn out all the others. My favorite songs change though. Right now it is Reptile off Downward Spiral. Can't ever get too much Trent.
7. "Navarro: The fact of the matter is, we've been intending on finalizing this marriage for the past year. Had it not been for MTV's involvement and suggestion of the show, we may honestly still not be married at this point. We actually had to hop to it and make it happen. This forced us to clear our schedules and do the show and be married — which is awesome."
I don't know what that is from, but I what I am saying is that had it not been for the show, we would have had a hard time lining up our schedules. Due to our busy work-life, we had a hard time setting a date.
8. Could you give us a quick run-down of your gear(effects,strings,picks,ect,,)....Thanks
PRS 9 gauge, Marshall JCM 900, Boss delay, chorus, octaver, Dunlop Cry Baby, medium picks.
9. I cant help but notice the similarities between the intro of 'Ocean Size' and the intro to 'Im So Glad' have you ever met Clapton and did he ever mention the similarities?
I have met him. Very nice guy, never mentioned a similarity.
10. There is a very cool Saraswati composition on the Loop Experiment Page. Nice going!
Have a great day!
Dave

A Ti me consagro, oh Senor."

The cup throwing incident with rhcp & offspring I'm guessing was the guys fooling around... kind of like when the foo fighters dropped balls and confetti and what not on Chad while he was drumming onstage once... it was the funniest thing! Anthony started cracking up so bad he couldn't keep singing.
But yeah, he's a sweetheart but you definitely don't mess with Kiedis. Or his women. ;)

Hi Dave,
RE: The New York Post reports on your book, I thought this book was completed years ago, way before you even met Carmen? I understand it was halted for personal reasons.
I do remember excerpts of it having appeared in music magazines & you had talked about it in the interviews you gave at the time. Design comps were posted on the Net etc. Then we never heard about it again. I think this was over 4 years ago.
Yesterday morning, I heard another report filled with mis-information about DDTAH. On my local WPIX news, they seemed to have yet more wrong info about the book, the WPIX reporter said that BOTH you & Carmen were writing this book together & that it would be about your marriage!??
There is so much confusion surrounding DTTAH, it's mind boggling! You have to wonder who at Regan Books is writing the press releases. They obviously aren't a fan! But seriously, they aren't getting the proper info out. You can't blame the reporters on these shows, they are only reading the marketing material they are getting from the publisher.
Wasn't this book completed BEFORE you started dating Carmen or have you actually added more chapters to this book including the past year?
I understand that intially you had wanted DTTAH to chronicle only a certain, very dark period of you life. Either way, I eagerly await this book.
take care,
XXXX

Btw, someone here complained about people asking the same questions all the time. Perhaps if a Search function was implemented here that would solve lots of things.
People also wouldn't have to waste time scrolling through old posts to get the answers. Since this weblog is functioning somewhat as a messageboard, a Search function is needed.

You're right about Kiedis & his women. haha. I love that guy so much. Haven't had the chance to meet him, but I once read this hysterical article about him- maybe RS or NME- I can't rmbr which. But anyway, the interviewer was asking Kiedis who the pictures were of on his fridge. One picture was a girl in a high school graduation picture & Kiedis said, "That's my girlfriend's graduation picture." The interviewer then says, really, how old is the picture...and Kiedis exchanges glances with his dad, Blackie, & the two cackle on...gotta love those Kiedis men...I literally laughed out loud...
there is something about those RHCP guys & i just think everything they do is amazing. gotta love that story.
Posted by: Ellen at August 17, 2004 12:01 PM
Ellen- the girl I believe was Jaime Richar. Dave probably remembers her, that was around OHM time.
I love that interview, have it up on my site.

Saw Van Halen rock out in Anaheim last nite...I love those guys so much, too. Eddie is so effin hot, man! abs of steel, i tell you. it was so cute, during eddie's solo, wolfie 'wolfgang' van halen came out & joined eddie! so cute. sammy rocked & was full of energy & he hit all those difficult vocals with ease...it sure beat seeing gary cherone w/ vh at the garden back in '99, was it? damn, that was a long time ago...VH FOREVER! sammy is the man & i will not have vh any other way...maybe if diamond dave wasn't such an egomaniac it would be cool but sammy is the man!

Hey Dave
Was out shopping today and walked into the local small but excellent record store, to the sounds of Strays...I had a little smile to myself, especially when my 5 year old started singing along.
So how many kids was it that you and Carmen want eventually? I'm glad to say mine is already showing an artistic flair (and temperament!)
Off for a damn fine second night curry...

Your question is probably for Dave but heres my advise:keep real busy and let time do the healing, believe me i know how tough it is.A broken heart can really wear you down.I still haven't forgotten mine,it feels like your mourning for someone really close who passed away, you just have to know in your mind that you'll get through it and come out the other side a wiser person.

Honest to God, I didn't think it was about the date! Well, thank you, thank you very much. (I found it here http://www.davenavarro.us/davecarmenarticle1.html)

Thanks Dave and others who responded.

I'd be interested in what the guitarists out there can do with it.

hey dave-
i was wondering, when i saw you with rhcp in '97 at the garden (silverchair & rivers cuomo of weezer's the rentals opened up)...you guys brought out iggy pop for the finale of 'search and destroy'. by far, one of the coolest rock moments ever in my entire history of concert-going. (david bowie's 50th bday at the garden is another one up there)...how did you get iggy to perform with you? i believe around that time was when 'lust for life' was getting big due to 'trainspotting'...anyway, that was incredible, but then my cousin in long island saw you guys the following evening, donning the 'sox on cox' for the finale...i must say, i was a bit jealous, but iggy, man, that was cool.
i once read an article w/ iggy when he criticized kiedis for stealing his 'shirtless personna'. i think he said it in a flattering way, like kiedis is one of his contemporaries or scholars, but i wondered how it was orchestrated...
ps kiedis and iggy pop do have an uncanny resemblance, i must admit...
have a good one,
ellen

Ellen- Chad is the man, I'd love to hear about it! I'll email you when I get home.
oh my site.. haha, lord I haven't worked on that thing in ages... I created it when i was in high school. I have a bunch of interviews and pics I haven't put up yet. Do you post on the chili's message board? There's a post there that's kind of a showcase of all the fan's RHCP sites. I'll email the link to my site to you.
on a different subject, I was thinking since Dave liked the idea of a topic for the chat, we should do that on here. I figure it's probably easier for him if we just hang out and talk to each other on here and whenever he has time or feels like it, he can comment on anything or jump in the conversation. That way there's not any pressure to get to everyone and answer all the questions. Like for today the topic can be "Dating: Does age really matter?"
Maybe? Yes? No? What say yee all?

Jaime Rishar was an incredibly beautiful model that Anthony dated many years ago, yes she was much younger than him, he does like the 'youngins'!
She had a sophisticated, yet sweet look. I remember we had booked her for a photo shoot at the company I used to work for, she was a very sweet girl. Very easy to work with, most models aren't. lol
Here's some photos of Jaime: http://images.google.com/images?q=Jaime+Rishar&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&filter=0
She was rather short for a model, so subsequently she didn't do much runaway work. I haven't seen her modeling much these days, I wonder what she is up to. Hope she's okay.

ok, for all those people having trouble with msn messenger....
Step 1: !OPTIONAL! YOU CAN GET MSN MESSENGER WITHOUT THIS STEP! get a hotmail account at http://login.passport.net/uilogin.srf?id=2
(you will see somewhere on the page "dont have an account? create one." or something cheesy like that)
Step 2 (kind of a step): if you just created a hotmail account, you will have already gotten youre .net passport, it just gives you all the instructions, but if you are using your own email, then you might not have a .net passport...
Step 3: shimmy on over to http://messenger.msn.com/download/ they will have both options, if you do not have a .net passport, then click the second option on the left, and if you just signed up, then you can start downloading right away and click the option on the right.
this is just my "rough" guide to getting msn messenger, its been a while since i actually downloaded mine, so i might have forgotten something, if anybody sees something wrong, you may certainly correct me... if you run into a problem i most likely dont know the answer, but i might be able to point you in the right direction...
so there you go, have *fun*

Hope everyone's ok and rockin as usual..lol
Havent had a question for ages, since there are so many good questions asked around.
***Dave, how does it feel to have a second guitar in the band? I know you've been playin with other guitarists on stage for CF or TNO Tour with Mr Kushner, but this time this is your main band, and a record is to follow...So How's the chemistry workin? coz this is really important to find someone who kinda complete what you're playin. (you've been most of the time the one guitarist of the band in Jane's & Rhcp).. .
Have a good day all!
Enjoy!

Hey All,
Dave, I know I keep asking (sorry) but any news on the archiving of Camp Freddy?
Lottie, regarding your post, please go talk to someone about how your feeling, my friend took her own life last year and we all feel (friends & family) that if she had just talked to someone things may be looking very different today. (I know your q was directed at Dave, I hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents.)
Good chat last night msn'ers,
Have a great day all,
Kirsty x

Hi Dave, thanks for answering the question about your fllling after your comments about British with bad teeth - hope you know I was only playin' with you - I didn't take any offence lol! UK/US preconceptions of each other make me smile.
No question, just - HAVE A NICE DAY NOW!!!!
;)

Hi Dave.
Jane's "Kettle Whistle" is one of the most beautiful songs ever. How did it get written? I'd love to know anything you can tell me about the song! Spare no details! :)
Thanks Dave!

Hi Dave,
I'm from Lisbon, Portugal but last year I went to California (the main reason was Lollapalooza 2003) and you've great surf conditions.
LA is an awesome city!
Do you surf?
Have a great day!
PS: Include Portugal in your next tours please.

Hey Dave
Am I right in thinking that I saw pictures of you doing a gig with Michael Jackson a few years back?
How did that come about? What was he like?
Peace
John

John, read the Will Spread for Unicorns entry, that should answer your question.

you get alot of questions here relating to things you do that seem shallow or hollywood, like onstage hair fluffers, fag lighters, arse lickers etc and you shrug them off as small harmless vices but do you ever worry that these vices might build up and start to destry your soul?you may have more time and energy and mtv cred to create your music but if youve got no soul how are you going to make amazing music. or is that not a concern of yours, have you reached your creative peak and are now retired? i know alot of people choose the "if youve got the money why not?" attitude, but i dont believe becoming a lazy media bloted celebrity is inevitable.basically i just wandered if your trying to surpass your previous works, regardless of them being a commercial success, or if this "project" is one of those "im rich, ive got a guitar, im bored sounds like a fun way to pass the time" things.

Good Morning Dave...Good Morning Family! Just want to wish everyone a happy Wednesday. Hope you all have an awesome day.
Another small piece of business....
"Again this is not to keep 6767 friends from getting it. This is to keep people who find the site online and are not members of the community to leech from me.
I have plans to upgrade the server, but its just not in the budget yet.
Love as always
WhitePony"
After the above post, I had a conversation with Anthony, who has consented to accepting a little help to upgrade his server, etc. Obviously, he has done a awful lot on his own there, which I for one really have appreciated tremendously. I am happy to send him a little donation to help out and, if anyone else is interested in pitching in, please email me for his paypal account info. During normal business hours...you can also email me at: chigley@ufcw1288.com
Thanks!

Well...duh...since Anthony's paypal info is the same as his email, I guess it's ok to just post it: theunit69@hotmail.com
I am such a geek sometimes! :p

hmm... that is an interesting set of questions from Molly, I would think Dave is doing what he's doing because he simply enjoys making music and having that creative outlet...
but in any case, who are any of us to be a judge of someone else's character or the way they lead their lives? It's enough pressure being in the spotlight and having everyone's eyes on your every move.

Hey Haven't been on here for over a week because i have been in the middle of moving and just seeing whats new? Whats happening with this cyber music project? Have you decided on a singer yet?
Yeah just a quick question for Dave. I saw the second Woodstock concert on Pay-per-view and I think it was your first performance with RHCP and I remember Anthony saying something like, "Dave didn't like this idea" about you performing with the big light bulbs on your head. I was just wondering what you thought about it in your own words because I thought the light bulbs were kind of gay too.
