Airport

Well, I finally found a computer here in Miami. What a crazy couple of days! I am really looking forward to a restful Monday at home. Vegas was a blast. Although none of the "rockers" won, it was good to see the money go to a contestant. The three of us had decided to give the money to charity if for some odd reason, one of us won. I also got a new tattoo from my boy Thomas at the Hart and Hunington tattoo shop at the Palms Hotel. It reads, "Don't Try This At Home." Great work, I'll have a picture up soon. I flew out to Miami on Saturday and hit the awards on Sunday. Later, Carmen and I threw a party at the National Hotel. It was out of control, we had to be escorted out. As I always say, "It's not a real party, unless you get escorted out." It was just too crowded and Carmen couldn't find any space to chill. We had a killer time though. Luckily, the night fell on a cheat night and room service was open! As I write this, it is 8:40 am in Miami. I haven't slept yet and I am sitting at the computer terminal in the lobby of the National Hotel, waiting to get a ride to the airport. I was thinking about playing in a tournament at the Hustler Casino when I got home, but it is starting to look very unlikely. Anyway, I have missed being able to check in but I have stayed updated on the activity from my sidekick. As far as the questions and conversations go, it's your call. If you want to start a new place, it's all good, if not, this place is yours. As long as this is home, I support whatever you choose to do. Hell, I support you even if it isn't. I love reading all the posts, related and unrelated...

I'm gonna get me some sleep on that plane...

Peace My Friends,

Dave

Hey Dave,

You know playing Dublin would be a great idea! Going to see the Roots tonight, James Brown tomorrow and the Super Furry Animals, Jurassic 5 and Soulwax in a festival on Saturday. Hell, might even go see Whitesnake in a few weeks (if they can still draw a big crowd after all these years, think how many people would like to see you play).Anyway, enough of the bullshit. I'd like to pose a question.

You said a few days ago that you were going to jam with Eric again soon. Any chance of doing a new record with him or, perhaps , of him appearing on the new Panic Channel record?

PS- Come on Ireland against Cyprus on Saturday. Robbie Keane, Damien Duff and Andy Reid: 3 f'n geniuses.

Here's another pic of Dave from the VMAs, I guess he wasn't bullshitting us when he said he did own a shirt ;)

Cool to hear you had a blast at the VMA's sounds like you had a pretty kicking party wish I was there!

When it comes to starting a new board I say we keep it here. This is technically home for the 6767 family and I wouldn't want to feel we were somehow leaving Dave out of the loop so to speak. He says he doesn't mind the posts related or unrelated and loves to read them.
I'm not saying we shouldn't create other message boards regarding Navarro you know the more the merrier...just to keep this one as home base.

Posted by: Pinhead at August 30, 2004 07:07 AM

Hey Papi...good to hear u's had a blast on ur mini vacation. Hey r we the only one's who are dissapointed in some of the shi**y live singing on the vma's or what?? Hoobastank STUNK...we couldn't believe our ears!!
AAhh the 80s award shows rocked..I'm getting old I guess huh...lol. Too many lip sync acts. K thanx for letting me vent!! Aye I hope ur back on CFR soon, I've been partying the last 2 weekends......DRUNK OF MY ASS...Angel says "When's Dave back on the air" u keep me home on Saturday nights. Oh yea loved Carmen's hair!! Peace n' luv to U and the "FAM"!!!

Dave,
As a musician and a guitarist do you get frustrated or motivated when you hear music such as Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon or Radiohead's OK computer?

Posted by: Casey at August 30, 2004 07:14 AM

Yeah I couldn't believe Yellowcard won the MTV2 award...THEY SUCK SO MUCH!! I think younger fans are brainwashed to think this is actually punk rock or something? Like I'm a pretty big fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and I thought for sure they were going to win that award because their music is actually good.

I also couldn't believe Simple Plan was nominated for the peoples choice award. Not only is their music shite but they are complete assholes.

Posted by: Pinhead at August 30, 2004 07:28 AM

Hi Dave and 6767ers!

Glad you are back man, it almost feels strange if you don't post on a daily basis.....j/k...:-)

Sounds you had a cool time - saw the pics from the Poker with Tommy Lee and the ones of the VMA.....pretty cool.
Still rumours of Anthony being there, is that true?

so, have some rest at home,
see ya all

love,

Dave

What was your overall opinion of the show? I think it prolly came off better being there live but it came off as badly paced & far to many mix ups during the presenting of awards. I believe the VMAs had a new producer or director this year. Perhaps that could have been why.

Bro you looked badass sporting that red shirt with the leather pants Dave! Did you meet anyone at the show who was much cooler than you expected them to be? I would love to see a picture of you & LiL John :)

Glad to enjoyed your trip

Much love to all of 6767

I'm no genius, but instead of sending the conversation off site, can't someone create a "sidebar" board on this site? That would leave questions/comments directly related to Dave and his posts in this string, or something like that...

Posted by: Schwing at August 30, 2004 08:11 AM

Hiya Dave and everyone(where's Freak been lately?)
I'm glad you like reading everything on here and not just the questions.

I've been thinking of an idea for us all to get involved in:

ok i was thinking that there must be quite a few of us who are musicians out there right?
Why not set up a 6767 agents internet album for peeps to download, lets say if this goes ahead that a deadline for enteries to be in by is arranged and 15 or so good tunes are chosen from the submissions, could be anything from covers of dave's songs to original songs to instrumentals.
There are many talented artists here who could design a front/back cover sleeve.
This could be made a yearly thing.
I don't have the means to set something like this up but i'm sure some of you may be able to do it.

Is this a good idea or a shit one?

I don't think I've ever seen you wearing such bright colours! The shirt looked great!
What makes you decide that you want a tattoo? Do you put a lot of thought into it, or is it more of a my body is a canvas type decision?

Posted by: Jen at August 30, 2004 09:09 AM

It is so funny, that you get new tattoos like every 2 weeks :) The chances are by the time you turn 50, there will not be any place on your body for new ones...

Quick question here: You said that you are friend with Gavin, so you like his band Bush? If so, fave song? I am asking this because Bush is my favorite band and Letting the cables sleep my #1 of all time.

Hey Dave, hey people,

What's with all the shirt comments?! (Ok...so I have two to add...)
1. "Dave Navarro, the only man who looks good in something others may describe as an Italian street bar tablecloth"

2 "Dave Navarro, who makes headlines every time he wears something that isn't black"

I jest of course - seriously though - the shirt, what were you thinking?! (Awaits rebuttal by fam)

Sounds like you had a kick ass time...

Chill out well chickadee

Why did Perry sound like he had a bad cold? Why is abbreviation such a long word? How does a thermos work? Why do we sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" when we're already there? Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?

The VMA's were disappointing this year. All the rock was lumped together in one tiny timeslot and everything else took forever. (Like Will Smith coming down and introducing Shaq) Very disappointing. Stevie Wonder and Lenny Kravitz were good though.

I also didn't like the European style stage (that is to say - I didn't like that the award winners had to walk 5 miles through the crowd to get their award.)

Hope you had fun though Dave! I know I woulda had a great time watching the technical difficulties MTV producers ran into ;)

...yeh so last night i had loadsa long weird dreams. Considering i only got like 4 hours sleep i was suprised i managed to fit them all in.

Aaaaanyways, there was one where i was like in this underground nightclub and you (Dave) was there. You was being all like ignorant and that then i said i spoke to you on your website and you recognised me! So moving on...this guy in the club was like a camcorder man and he made mini movies for people as like a memory of the night out and i was all like film me n Dave! so he did then he asked for 20 dollars for it...and you started shoutin "what the fuck!!" and was telling me not to pay him. I paid him, then when i got home and tried to play it to show people it was blank and nobody believed id met you, damn it! Ummm odd.

Im not a weirdo or anything, just havent posted in a while and seeing as that was fresh in my head thought id tap it down.

Posted by: Rob K at August 30, 2004 03:46 PM

man i feel like i've been away forever...moving into college, and trying to set my computer up took like 400 days (actually 3) but i felt isolated lol...i'm glad dave didn't post much...i would've been sad if i missed it lol.

it feels good to be back though!! and dave...you're a sexy mother fucker...you look so hot in the VMA picks!! mmmmmm lol

and i agree with those who were saying the vma's sucked...first of all...they WEREN'T in new york...that's reason number 1 why they sucked...the 2nd is that a lot of music today sucks! incubus barely got nominated (did they? at all?) but yellow card, good charlotte, and simple plan did?! what is this world coming to...and i hate jet...hate hate hate...anyone else think they're song "are you gonna be my girl?" sounds a lot like iggy pop's lust for life?...they suck...sorry if anyone likes them.

that's the end of my rant...toodles everyone!!

Question for Dave... Favorite guitar strings? Favorite picks?

Not much going on except that it looks like my move to Chicago is gonna happen sometime around the 18th of September. With any luck, I'll be gainfully employed there quickly, and I'll be immersing myself in the music industry as fast as possible.

good to hear you had a good time Dave! The boys held the fort well without you on on Camp Freddy radio. Unfortunately they only had one pair of tickets to give away for the Ramone's anniversary bash.. Will they have another pair to give away this coming weekend?

mortisha...shingles are something that the body is usually able to fight off, but if the body is under tremendous amounts of stress (psychological) the immune system will be down causing the shingles...or another auto-immune disease like lupus or hiv/aids will cause it because the immune system is also weakened.

that's all i know about shingles...and that they're painful too...my suggestion, as weird as this is...is to rub oatmeal (already made with whole milk) on it...as it will soothe the area and speed up healing but also take some of the itch out if there is any

hope i helped :-)

hey Maria, not fun,its the same virus as chicken pox, adults who have had chicken pox are more prone to getting shingles, especially if you didnt have a bad case of them.Emilys right, oatmeal helps..treat it just like regular chicken pox,if you run a fever take ibprofin, oatmeal baths and lotion, viatmin e oil also works wonders...and nooooo scratching, cuz they will get infected.Good luck and hopefully they go away soon :o)

Dave,
Haven't heard anything about rehearsals lately. Chaney still doing session gigs? Are you still hopeful to upload some footage when Issac's gear is back up? Goth Alert... How about Peter Murphy with Camp Freddy? If he doesn't work out, how bout' Ash or David J? Any of those three on a hard rock vibe should be mesmerizing.

Posted by: Mike at August 30, 2004 08:24 PM

yeah, I know what shingles are. Thanks for the tips guys! Those darn viruses. Fortunately it's just really itchy and not very painful. Just a bit tender. It's funny how it's just on one side along a nerve. I can't wear some of my pants because they go over the rash and irritate it. It might start hurting after it heals.
I'm taking antiviral drugs. Hopefully by the Ramone's anniversary show I will be good to go. I shouldn't really go out in crowds until the blisters crust over as I can give chicken pox to kids/elderly/people who have never had them.

Hi Dave,

Glad that you are back!

What happened to Carmen presenting at the VMAs? I didn't see you either, were you guys on the Pre-show? Or interviewed on the Red Carpet? I caught you guys on 'Excess' Hollywood (lol) last night or was it 'Extra'? You were being interviewed in a limo. Carmen looked great as usual.

Dave I hate to say this, your shirt looked like a Target logo. On you, a HOT Target logo, but it reminded me of something in a Target TV ad!

I saw the links posted here for the photos, tho I didn't actually see you & Carmen on the VMAs. Did I miss something?

Didn't you say that Carmen was going to be a presenter? Guess I walked out of the room & missed Carmen? The show really SUPER SUCKED, so I walked out of the room several times. lol

This year the VMAs didn't cut it for me at all. Too long, musically unexciting & NO host to keep that mess together. Dave Chapelle would have been great, at least he would have kept things lively. The usually entertaining aftershow was gone too.

IMHO with each passing year, the VMAs get worse. And where the hell was the ROCK MUSIC?? Does ROCK exist anymore on MTVs lame, predictable playlist?? Plus the VMAs should be back in NYC or LA. Florida? What was that about? I know the Repub convention here in NYC prevented the awards from staying in NY.

The VMAs used to be more diversified in the types of music they presented, then again these days MTV itself is NOT diversified, I guess I shouldn't expect anything more from them. I remember a VMA show years ago that scanned so many different types of contemporary music, there was actually something for everyone.

Today if you don't enjoy Rap & Hip-hop 24/7 you might as well not watch the VMAs OR MTV, because that's what they are serving non-stop.

The bottom line for MTV is money, they couldn't be more obvious about it. If Hip-Hop & RAP generate the big bucks, that's what MTV will keep on promoting & shoving down the publics throats. It doesn't mean this 'music' is better than Rock music, nor should it be an alternative to Rock music. It's just something else, take it or leave it. MTV aren't giving fans a choice though, which is bad for music fans with functioning brains!

Personally I don't watch MTV anymore, I do watch any MTV show that you are on. I confess to watching 'The Assistant' because I have been an Andy Dick fan for many years. For me MTV is one long boring note, a note I can't listen to anymore. Like a Phillip Glass drone, but much less interesting!

Just because one TV station called MTV doesn't promote rock music these days, that doesn't mean Rock doesn't exist. MTV gives themselves entirely too much credit for forming the opinions of young people.

MTVs world is VERY narrow. There is a world of music out there, you wouldn't know it by watching the empty headed crap on MTV. The most positive 'message' they can hopefuly get across this year, is to get young people out there to vote, other than that, they have nothing new to say. How many times can they recycle "The Real World"? I couldn't believe that show was still being produced.

MTV certainly doesn't shape MY musical tastes.

Is it me, but wasn't it kind of ironic that the musical highlight was Stevie Wonder with Alicia Keyes & Lenny Kravitz performing one of Stevie's old classic tunes, "Higher Ground"?? Nothing really held a candle to that performance, except perhaps the OutKast medley & Christina A's great voice. I think it's inspiring that Alicia, while a young woman, is using 'old school' R'n'B references in her music, someone has to keep that music alive! And critics fault her for that, for being too 'old school'? What the hell do they know, the critics aren't buying the music, they get review copies for free...the paying fans are buying CDs & attending concerts.

Of course, most of the VMA/MTV audience seemed clueless as to the greatness of Stevie & Lord knows what they know of 'old school' R'n'B in general!! I'm sure they had no idea who he was OR about the sublime music he has created since he was very young. SAD, very sad.

Hopefully with The Panic Channel, Velvet Revolver & whatever new rock bands come along, Rock music will once again be the dominate force in contemporary music. Face it, Rock music as a genre is more exciting than Hip-Hop/Rap because there are many styles of Rock within the genre, the same can not be said of Hip-Hop/Rap.

Bands such as The White Stripes & Jet are taking old American Blues & British Blues references (Yardbirds, early Zeppelin etc) & presenting them to new audiences, I just don't see that sort of adventurousness happening within the genre of Rap. OutKast are the only Hip-Hop/Rap band doing anything remotely fresh.

There is just so much boasting & posing one can do; yelling rhymes into a microphone over repetitive thumping beats. After awhile it all sounds the same.

Oh yes, LOVED you on Andy Dicks show, that was pretty damn hysterical. Andy is an extremely funny guy. I must admit, I loved that show & his clueless assistants!

Sorry for the loooong rant, but the VMAs were really pretty awful & I wanted to complain about it! And who better to complain about it, than to a famous musician. LOL

Seriously, you are someone with the power to perhaps change the current musical climate. As a fan, the only way I can change it, is by NOT purchasing what the record companies & MTV promote. I'd be interested to hear your take on things.

Any thoughts Dave??

take care,

To the 6767 Community,

While I'm on a roll.....Yes, leave this place the way it is, who knows, our daily 'rants' might actually inspire Dave! Or give him a huge laugh.

Why assume that Dave is bored with reading our ramblings OR that he has no interest in reading them? Hopefuly we are all thinking, creative, functioning individuals with thoughts of our own. ;)

Hopefully Dave will find our writings & opinions interesting and/or amusing. Dave will probably tell us when & if it becomes too much, people shouldn't assume things OR attempt to read Dave's mind. There I go assuming! LOL

take care,
itanja
