Unicorn
Nice work everybody! You all got the MSN thing hooked up. I'd like to do another chat soon too. We will figure out a time and place for sure. Someone had asked for a copy of the Venus version that accompanies the black and white video. I am afraid I don't have that but I did run across this. It's a version of Venus In Furs I did with Danny Saber. As for the quicktime I promised, it will be digitized from VHS this week.
Here is a quick 12...
1. Any bands or albums you can recommend with what you'd suggest as kick ass guitar playing, or what artists have influenced your style?
I really think the band 11 is under rated. Of course there is Hendrix, Robert Smith, Page, Beck, Clapton, Townsend... I could go on forever, but those are my favorites.
2. An episode of The Simpsons, with your wife, was on a couple days ago. You a big fan of the show?
Huge fan. "It was the best of times, it was the murst of times." I also love The Family Guy.
3. How did Carmen find having the tattoo done Dave?
She took it like a champ. No pain, I of course, winced a few times.
4. Dave I wondered do you cook? Are you any good?
Give me 2 boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese. I have a system. I use 1 1/2 packets of mix per box. A cheat day specialty!
5. Having written so many timeless tunes yourself, is there a song of which you say "Whoa, I wish I had written that!"?
Well, Kashmir comes to mind, but I wouldn't want to give up the mystery it carries, so, I guess the answer is no.
6. I once heard a demo version of REXALL that had the coolest bridge... the lyrics went something like "love the moment, leave the girl behind"
"Love the moment, leave the girl. Love the moment, leave the moment... leave the moment..."
I have that somewhere. I'll try to find it. There are some really odd versions of that song.
7. I'm wondering, what's your favourite song by them? (X)
The Unheard Music.
8. and a question for dave if he has the time...back in 2002 i think...MTV aired a special on you and carmen called "love story" or something like that...do you know if it'll ever see the light of day again either on MTV or via DVD/VHS?
It MIGHT appear on the Til Death Do Us Part DVD. I'll look into it. That link that was posted a day or so ago with Carmen playing drums was from that show.
9. Have you ever worked with the Make A Wish foundation Dave?
Yes, I have. A truly amazing experience. One that I am grateful for.
10. What advice would you give to those of us who are looking to start bands of our own.
I would really have to say to make sure you enjoy what you are doing and that you are doing it for that reason.
11. when it's said that stephen is disgusted by fruits, does that mean he hates gay people?
No, it means he hates fruit.
12. Any artists or shops you'd recommend in the Chicago area?
I really don't know of any... My favorite shop is Mark Mahoney's Shamrock Tattoo in Hollywood.
13. Goodnight. DN

First off... Dave thanks for doing this site it means the world to so many of us. I'm sitting up late at night honing my poker skills hoping to maybe sit across for you some day at a table. My questions is how does Carmen feel about your "Trust No One" tattoo. Your album TNO was such an import part of my life, and i felt the same way for so long and I want to get a similar tattoo, but my girl gets upset everytime i bring it up because she thinks it means i don't trust her. Any advice?

Good morning Dave
I understand that Henry Rollins is a huge Jane's Addiction fan and admires your guitar playing greatly. I was wondering if you have worked or intend to work together?

Oh yeah Kirsty, you have to try some real Kraft Mac n cheese...its a real American "delicasy"... or at least a neccessity for any mother of small children (or in my case have a boyfriend with the same taste for food as a small child)LOL
you must try it!
Posted by: Abby at July 28, 2004 02:25 AM

Posted by: stephanie at July 28, 2004 02:36 AM
Just echoing Iris here ... but I'd like to hear your thoughts on Audioslave too .... and Soundgarden for that matter.
I remember from the last chat ... you said you'd love for Chris Cornell to sing with Camp Freddy ... what are the chances??
I would pay VERY good money to see that!
Thanks again for everybody so in the loop ... and what a great reaction to the unicorn pic circulating! Love that attitude....

Dave,
Thank you once again for answering my "cooking" question:
¿When will the Death Do Us Part DVD come out?
¿Did you actually write your upcoming book or did you have someone dictate what you said?
¿Who do you think is an under-rated guitarist?
Thank you,
Mike from NYC ♥♣♠
Posted by: Mike at July 28, 2004 03:22 AM
Dave? what the hell man?
You go for the POWDERED Mac and Cheese?
I would have thought a man of your tastes would EASILY have gone for the KRAFT DELUXE (with the liquid cheese)
Kraft Deluxe = Led Zeppelin
Original Mac and Cheese = Creed
Posted by: Six7Six7 at July 28, 2004 04:28 AM
Dave, having acted in Martial Law, i was wondering if you have done any martial arts before??
FreAk, hope we get to chat on the msn chat soon, thnks for all your hard work!!!

Hi Dave,
It is great to hear your thoughts on TNO now. It is an album I hold in very high regard and I am looking forward to your new work. I hope you play some of your work from TNO with your new band and tour Australia in the near future. It was disapointing to not get to hear any of TNO live, so I hope to one day hear your amazing work at a concert.
Do you have any figures on how well TNO sold in Australia?
Thanks for the Venus in Furs Mp3.

call it odd mentality from still recovering after an all nighter (which ivolved many litres of caffeine, punk music on the radio and a LOT of knitting... yes, knitting. I knitted a hat, which is pretty good as I haven't knited for eight years or so... my best friend is so damn cool. I'll have to take a picture and show you sometime. I could kit you a hat! *laughs*)
Venus In Furs = good... and the name 'furs' made me think of the band, the Psychedelic Furs. Any opinion on them? (:
love,
Soph
PS. I really will knit you a hat if you want. (;

if so, was it hard to work out, i'm too slow to hear how the fast notes work but the rest is easy. does it get easier to work that kinda stuff out when you become more experienced with working by ear or is it a person to person thing?

Hi Dave,
First, I'd like to say that I saw you in Paris last automn (I was there in 1990 too...) and it was... well, words are not always the best way to describe things... so, let's say REALLY GREAT ! I really enjoyed the acoustic version of JUST BECAUSE and THREE DAYS was just terrific !!! But why didn't you, bloody f$%*£@' b#&~@ard, play PRICE I PAY ?
Question 2 : I guess you didn't record in studio this acoustic version of JUST BECAUSE, am I right ?
Question 3 : You often quote Hendrix as a master influence for you. Is there any plan for a cover song of Jimi one day ? And if you had to do so, which one would you choose ? I'd like to hear you playin' GYPSY EYES, I guess, but I feel the same with every song I can list...
I apologize for my english, but i'm sure you can understand it, and that's the point
Have fun,
Nestos

Hola mr. Navarro,
it would be a fucking great priviledge if you spent a minute taking a look at my band's site (http://www.officialmandala.com/main.htm). well, there's not an english version, but yes there are pictures and a song to download!
also, we were planning to cover Everything off TNO, i'd love to listen to an older version if there is one...
thank you so much

Hey Dave long time reader first time poster here. Way back when TNO came out I was so surprised to hear the Diamanda Galas sample at the beginning of of Everything. That record, "The Sporting Life" was always a overlooked classic for me. Actually was lucky enough to catch her live a few times including that tour with JPJ at the Wadsworth Theatre. Curious to hear your thoughts on the spooky old girl and or on that record.
Also, I am originally from Madison , Wisconsin and was wondering if you had any thoughts on the music of Last Crack. They got compared to Jane's a bit back in the day, plus of course there was the Jerden connection. The band is actually back together and has a new record coming out next year.
Thanks Dave!!!

Kraft Mac-n-Cheese, (the powdered kind) is my favorite too!!!!!! I have to put tomatoes in in though,
the rest of my family likes tuna fish in it...
Does Carmen eat mac-n-cheese when you make it?

Dave! are you having a wank in that picture?
Posted by: Piers at July 28, 2004 08:37 AM
I LOVE!! kraft mac and cheese...what a great way to salvage a bad day if you have one! They don't have mac and cheese outside of the US? I would've thought they did!
Thanks dave for answering my question...and i just wanted to say...what Hendrix and Rene Russo are to you...you are to me! thanks for being such a great person!!
and thanks freak for adding my name to the msn list...now i just need to learn how to use the chat service thing (i have nooooo clue)

Dave- I got to check out your show in Cleveland 4 days before 9/11. First I want to say what a great show and second what was the trippy music before you came out from. It was like a Wizard of OZ meets Willy Wonka on acid deal. It was friggin awesome.
PS- Someone get that poor girl some mac & Cheese.
Thx

Hey Dave I thought I asked some good questions the other day but instead you chose to answer cooking questions!? Ill try again.
1. I Havent heard CF radio yet, does anyone post archive mp3's anywhere? Have you heard Henry Rollins show on 103FM? Its pretty cool, you can archive the shows here if anyones interested http://www.henrysharmonioushead.com/
2. I read somewhere recently that you were looking for vocalists for a semi completed CF record. Who have you recruited and or would like to still recruit?
3. Are there any quality Strays b-sides that might see the light of day? Great record by the way.
Posted by: shawn at July 28, 2004 09:20 AM
Dave,
I guess I'll keep asking...Are there any unreleased tunes from the "Strays" sessions? Will we ever get to hear them?
Sorry if the Jane's thing is a sore subject.
Thank you.

i've been reading here for a long time, but too shy to comment : )
dave, it is so great that you do this for your fans. you and carmen are the only celebrites who interest me. i really admire how you've been able to overcome the obstacles in your life and find happiness with carmen.
i know you've posted a lot about musicians who admire, but what person would you say is your hero ? (not neccesarily a musician)
