Spare Time in the A.M.

this21. My questions is how does Carmen feel about your "Trust No One" tattoo.

Well, she knows it is a part of my past and doesn't pertain to her. She's all good with my past, as I am with hers.

2. I understand that Henry Rollins is a huge Jane's Addiction fan and admires your guitar playing greatly. I was wondering if you have worked or intend to work together?

We spent a lot of time together in 1991 on tour. Since then I have had the opportunity to jam with the Rollins Band. That was a blast. He has a radio show on Indie 103.1 as well. Check it out.

3. Dave, are you playing any local shows anytime soon (L.A.)???

Trying to get a September show together... Will update as it gets closer.

4. Your thoughts on Morello, if you're a fan, and which band you're diggin, Rage Against the Machine or Audioslave?

Tom is amazing. I have played with him many times, on stage and at his home. I love Rage and Audioslave. I am also a huge Soundgarden fan. It was so cool to see Audioslave every night on tour.

5. Dave would you ever consider buying a home out in Europe?

I don't think so, that would ruin Europe as a great place to visit.

6. ¿Did you actually write your upcoming book or did you have someone dictate what you said?

I actually wrote several passages but the bulk of it was written by Neil Strauss. He pretty much just hung out with me for a year.

7. Kraft Deluxe = Led Zeppelin, Original Mac and Cheese = Creed

Thanx for the tip. Consider me schooled!

8. I was wondering if you have done any martial arts before??

I was really into Tae Kwon Do for a while. All the leg work kind of screwed up my lower back, so I eventually put it down.

9. BOXERS, BRIEFS, OR COMMANDO?

I will work with all three options depending on the pants.

10. (Diamanda Galas) "The Sporting Life" was always a overlooked classic for me.

Me too. What a killer record. Diamanda and John Paul Jones. Really out there. Yes, that is a sample of her on the track, Everything on TNO. She kind of rules!

11. I got to check out your show in Cleveland 4 days before 9/11. First I want to say what a great show and second what was the trippy music before you came out from. It was like a Wizard of OZ meets Willy Wonka on acid deal. It was friggin awesome.

Yes, it was from the Wizard of Oz. Good call.

12. I was just wondering what your "GUILTY PLEASURES" were?

I don't know. I don't feel guilty about much.

13. I know you've posted a lot about musicians who admire, but what person would you say is your hero?

I respect so many people from rockers, to philosophers to film makers to scientists, that it is hard to narrow it down.

Hey Dave,

Two things. First it's cool that you respect Tom Morello because he took lessons as a child at the same store where I take them now. He actually took them in the same ROOM as me which is pretty cool. He usually sends backstage passes to the guys that work there, and his mom stops by sometimes.

As for a question. Do you ever wear shirts and/or do you own any?

also, there are interviews with Van Hunt, Pat McGee Band & a hockey player from the 1980 US Gold Olympic team....

I saw your new advert for PRS, i can just about make out the word Dave Navarro on the trussrod cover, does that mean PRS have now made your very own signiture guitar instead of a stock 24

I was thinking about whether or not they're adding love story onto the Til Death Do Us Part dvd's today - while listening to When the Levee Breaks (which is the song Carmen plays on the drums)on my way home from work...and I come on here, and Dave answered that question just this morning. *sigh*
I hope they put it on there...that was a great show.
*Oh, thanks for inviting me to chat today guys!*
Hey Dave - I read that you said you've been thinking about quitting smoking for the past year or so...in Love Story, you said you'd quit January 1st...2009. I'm hoping you'll quit before that - or at least by that date. I'm sure it'll make Carmen happy...and a lot of us happier too. Pink is a good color for lung. *wink*
My love to you and Carmen - OH, which leads me to 1 last thing -
why do you call her mouse? I know why she calls you Bird...but, why mouse?
dont know if someone already asked that or not...but...I wanna know.

Have a great day everyone!

D
who are you favorite visual artists?
FreAks cover of Sunny Day(btw F- that is a great photo of Dave on stage in Manchester that you posted the other day) got me to thinkin...would you ever consider internet collaboration recording on a song or three or more with the musician folk on here/posting them here...sorta Camp Freddy style but with the fans...a global collaboration...?
rgrds, RSM

Posted by: tina at July 28, 2004 11:04 AM

Thanks for answering my question about how Carmen feels. I feel the same way, but oh well that is life. Have to do what keeps the lady happy.

Do you have a process of how you create the vocal melody to go with lyrics you write? I have a horrid problem of being able to write good lyrics and a phat riff, but never can put anything together.

"(...) would you ever consider internet collaboration recording on a song or three or more with the musician folk on here/posting them here...sorta Camp Freddy style but with the fans...a global collaboration...?
rgrds, RSM"

Oh my God, Robert... you´re a f*cking genius!

Cyber Camp Freddy...! What a wonderful idea!

Dave... would you...? it would mean the world to us!

Much love from,
Luiz.

PS: I think DAVID BOWIE did something like that on his website, it was a contest or something.

Please, think about it...! Thank you!

Hey Dave, I second the question Biblical asked. I bought the PRS poster for my desk at work (yeah, I got a crappy insurance desk job) and I just noticed it after reading Biblical's comment.

Any news then dude? and if PRS is gonna release a Navarro sig model, will there be a SE version as well?

Thanks man, you blow my mind, can't wait to hear the new stuff and more old stuff

5. Dave would you ever consider buying a home out in Europe?
I don't think so, that would ruin Europe as a great place to visit.

Lol, that cracked me up....:-)

But seriously which country/place in Europe do you like most? You must have seen a lot during all the years of touring. What are your today's thoughts on touring btw? I remember reading that you are not such a great fan of the life on the road......

So, from now on i post here under my msn-name ..to minimize the confusion of who is who on msn, lol. (before i posted here under the name "Warped")

This sounds so cool...although it would be absolutely perfect if Dave were there too!!!

What types of activities would you allow your character to do, Dave??? Do you know what activities Carmen has chosen for hers?

Celebs in Playboy Video Game
Jul 27, 2:32 PM EST

The Associated Press

Carmen Electra will RSVP for your party if you push the right buttons. Average Joes and Janes will be able to digitally mingle among celebs like Electra and Tom Arnold when the "Playboy: The Mansion" video game hits stores this winter.

"I am very excited about my cameo in this game," Electra said in a statement Tuesday. "I look forward to seeing myself at many of the incredible parties that gamers will throw in their virtual Playboy mansions."

In the game, players don the pajamas of Playboy impresario Hugh Hefner and are given the task of building the Playboy empire by developing contacts, keeping the bunnies happy, selling magazines and, of course, throwing lavish parties.

Celebrities featured in the game include David Copperfield, Willa Ford, Jose Canseco, Uncle Kracker, Andrew WK and Melissa Joan Hart.

But gamers shouldn't expect to have their way with the stars.

"There are some things some celebrities won't do," senior developer Brenda Brathwaite told The Associated Press Tuesday.

Real-life VIPs featured in the game were given the option of what Playboy mansion activities their virtual counterparts would do.

Arnold's character, for example, is only programmed to play sports and smoke cigars, according to senior producer Eric Marcoullier. But Sum 41 guitarist Dave Baksh's digital clone will "play sports, drink, get drunk, make out and have sex with women, smoke cigars, but he won't jump on the trampoline."

Playmates from the past also appear, albeit in timeless fashion. Cindy Fuller from the May 1959 issue looks just as youthful and bouncy as Nicole Whitehead from the May 2004 issue.

"Playboy" gamers looking to become anyone other than Hefner will be disappointed.

"The player is always Hef," said Playboy publicist Lorna Donohoe.

Question: The front and back cover of TNO features symbolic physical representations of the letters "T" and "O". Is the "T" a mystical reference to "TAO" for you? I recall the word "TOMB" spelled out once.Is this a partial reference to that? Your entertaining language skills and communication is so multidimensional and amazing...a Gemini thing i suppose....

Dave, you've inspired me so much and that brings me to a story and a followup question. After seeing you in '99 or so performing Rexall on Late Night w/ Conan, I was like, "dude, I so want to get my nipples pierced." I was only 14 or so at the time, so I was still a bit young. Well, a few months ago I decided I was going to do it. I set up a fund at school to get my nipples pierced and I raised the $50 for it in two days, just from donations from friends and fellow students. Its been about 4 months, but sometimes they are still a bit sore. Does that still happen to you, or are yours fully healed?

I'm with Abby on that one.

You are so talented, and you're now tied with Slash as my favorite guitarist ever, and that's saying something because I've hero-worshipped Slash since I was 3 years old. Haha... anyway, I wanted to ask what it feels like to be playing in front of thousands of fans... I can't even imagine what that must be like. Thanks for being so freakin cool.

Dave I remember reading something about you a few years ago about the time TNO came out. It said you were in rehab and trying to go clean but it didn't make you feel any better on an emotional level so you relapsed and started using again. I could totally relate to how you were feeling at that time in your life because I have been through it too. Do you ever still get those feelings and how did you overcome them because you look like you have obviously gotten past that.

Posted by: Pinhead at July 28, 2004 04:02 PM

Dave,

Thanks for answering my book question today!
¿If offered, would you ever do a Pete Steele and pose for Playgirl?
As you know, there are a lot of over-rated bands that are very popular. ¿Which bands do you feel are truly under-rated?
I always felt that Sevendust, even they have a large following, are under-rated because they put out great albums and still do not get enough radio play. I loved their album ANIMOSITY.
¿What do you think of them? ¿Have you ever played with them?

Thanks,
Mike from NYC ☺ ☻ ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ ♂ ♀

Where/when did the Kashmir Jam with Maynard occur?

Until Aenima, I thought Ritual was it...I gotta confess the former made the latter sound thin...but they are so amazingly different and good! Both number 1's. Both bands in which(I think)all four members truly pull their own weight! The two best drummers period. Amazing vocalists and lyricists. Uncomparable rock bass players and insane guitarists; you with chops and A.Jones a metronomic rythm master.

If anyone wants a copy of the Carmen & Dave picture they have behind their piano...email me....bmd315@msn.com, I'll send it to you...

Dave - if you actually consider jamming with anyone from here - my boyfriend has to be in on it...your style & his are pretty similar. And he's been playing for a good 10 years...I'd love to see the both of you play together. D a m n. That would be awesome.
ALSO, I just wanted to say that after watching Til Death Do Us Part - the episode of the wedding - where you sat around the house playing guitar - I had a newfound level of respect for you. I thought that you were gonna play normal improvised stuff...but no....you were doing all these jazz & blues scales and whatnot - and it was funny because the boyfriend was just playing the same thing before the show started that night. Crazy coincidence.
Which leads me to ask:

Mr. Navarro - Did you ever take lessons? or were you just determined to learn, and taught yourself?

My boyfriend taught himself for a while - and could improvise like a mofo - and once he took a few jazz classes, it opened up - and he got even better....just wanted to know. Love to you and Carm.

Hey Dave, quick Q...

What do you do with all your spare time? with 24 hours in a day, subtracting up to 8 for sleep, that still leaves you with 16 hours and no real "job" to kill your time.

Even if you do the band thing all day, you have to come home in the evening right? do you go out and party? stay in and watch TV with your wife? Go for long walks in the neighborhood?

The rockstar image that is portrayed in pictures is without a doubt an illusion and a snapshot of mere minutes of your day. What is the rest?

Posted by: Six7Six7 at July 29, 2004 01:10 AM

AGGGG! Can I take a moment to bitch? This all started about a week ago, I went out with some friends and came home at around 3am. While I was looking for a place on the street to park I saw someone breaking into a neighbors car so I did what any good person would do and I called the police. Then at about 4 this morning I awoke to the sound of my car alarm so I ran down (took a while for me to realise it was mine) to find the window smashed in with a rock my stereo, and gym bag (why they wanted my stinky clothes? I don't know) amiising and the trunk open. I was the only car hit on the block and was parked under the street light!! I had to beg and cry with the police to get a unit to come out and take a report and photos. I shouldn't have to do this I pay my taxes. When the guy finaly made it here he acted as if it was nothing. To make matter worse I had Nothings Shoking in the stereo I had finaly replaced it from the last time I had a car broken into! After all this I need to be at work in about 2 hours. So mutch for sleep. It's so over rated anyways. Thank You for listening I needed to vent. I truely appriciate and love this comunity! I feel like I'm crying to my family. Hope all is well for everyone else.
Good Morning,

Dave,

thank you very much for the video, it rocks.

I´d like to ask you what was the inspiration for the sex scene and what made you decide to be in that...huh...position.

Also, what does the baby at the end of the video mean to you? Your lost innocence? Some part of you that needs to be nurtured and protected? I know you have a tattoo of a pregnant woman so I bet it means something.

My favorite secne though is the first one, with you applying make up in front of the mirror. Very cool!

As usual, much love, respect and gratitude from
Luiz Marcondes (Brazil)

Quick question: Body wax or shave?

Trivial I know but sometimes a girl needs to know these things! :)

I love love love the Venus in Furs video...it's one of my fav songs on TNO. I'm also curious about the concept, how it was born, any symbolism that might be in the video itself. thanks so much for the time and effort it took to convert it to quicktime! it really made all the difference

-Emily

PS: I'm so sorry Rain...just remember...what goes around in life comes around...those people will get what they deserve.

sorry about that...

Love from
Luiz.

PS: I still don´t understand how come you guy´s want to see some regular dude´s "pyou oney" after seeing NAVARRO´S magnificent beast, but whatever...

I´ll show what I got (it isn´t much but it has served me well on many occasions...lol)...but - I repeat - only if the MAN himself tells me to do so.

Hey Dave!! I love the Venus video.

This morning I have two comments/suggestions rather than a barrage of trivia for you.

1) Could you put your music videos on the Dvd of you and Carmen's show thats coming out? As an extra? Because they are really cool and seeing them on TV would be even cooler than the quicktime player, they play so small! Or offer them as a DVD by themselves.. Have a catalog of videos for sale like Blackie does for The Peppers!

2)You NEED to be in movies.. Serious! Not should, NEED!

I know I saw Floundering when I was like 13 or something, (it wasnt appropriate really..) but your part was cool, although miniscule You were the drug kid, right? BTW I used to laugh because when you walked away you totally disappeared behind a lamp post, I dont know why it was so funny but it was to me. ANyhow.. I have no doubt that you could be a FANTASTIC actor. :D If hollywood doesnt give you a good role, write a freakin movie! You are great..

Thats all for today. Thank you http://www.fartoogone.com for hilarity. My boyfriends first role. He is the loner punk. It is $10 DvD but it will be more soon because its in festivals and going international!! Hurry!-----

Good Morning Dave...Good Morning Everyone!!! :D

Misty...I am really sorry about your car...I've been there and I know it's a bitch! Even after you fix the window, stupid little pieces of glass will keep falling out of your door for months afterward...ugh!

Anyway...shake it off sweetie...don't let those losers mess up your happy vibe!

Ok here is a link I was asked to post by Suricata...

http://whitepony.kicks-ass.net:8080/6767/enlncopy.jpg

I am hosting my own server so I hope to get a message board and a chat room up for us. MSN Chat is cool but a central place for us to meet would be cool. Then if dave just wanted to drop in he could.

Dave:

Is that you singing backup vocals during the long middle section of One Big Mob on One Hot Minute. My buddy and I have a steak dinner riding on this (I say it's you).
