Q & A, CPS, IRC
Wow! So many responses, so little time. I reckon I can get to at least ten tonight, so I'll start with that. Don't forget, I simply choose at random. I try to not go over something already addressed in earlier posts. Thanx for all the support regarding the CPS. I had a really great time and it looks like I'm gonna do one next season too. I would also like to thank everyone who posted information regarding the live chat. I have started the ball rolling on that and I will probably have an update online by tomorrow. We are thinking irc. I like Mortisha8's idea of a topic. Any suggestions? BTW, I got my program here: http://ircle.com/
1. Out of all the red hot chili peppers who has the biggest package?
I don't know for sure, but my money is on Chad Smith.
2. How is the songwriting process different with the new band?
Pretty interesting. We do a lot of jamming on certain stuff, and just kind of let the vibe flow. We also take more of a song writing approach at times, the idea is that we will end up with a variety of styles and compositional ideas. An initial riff, rarely remains the original riff for very long. We allow ideas to grow if they are good, and go if they are not.
3. Do you ever dream about the drugs?
Sure I do. We call those "slip" dreams. Very common for those who have stopped using.
4. One of my favourite pics...Is there a story behind it? Does it mean anything?
No. Just me and my dog, Daisy. She is a Yorkie. I was doing a photo shoot and Carmen brought her with us. I just ended up being a prop for her.
5. And does journal writing help you keep your spirits up? Matter of fact what keeps your spirits up period?
Yes, it really does. In fact, prayer and faith in just knowing that everything is going to turn out ok helps keep my spirits up. When I think back at all the stuff I thought I'd never get through, and realize that I have, it makes any current issue kind of lose its power.
6. What did you bury the CD for? Was it really bad or something?
Bad? No. Was it something I thought was really good? No. I guess it was kind of an art project that did me a lot of good to do and helped me through a hard time. It made sense to me, I just thought it wouldn't to anyone else. A lot of the stuff, however, ended up in one way or another on TNO.
7. Saw the gig that you did in Amsterdam (absolutely awesome guys by the way!!!) Now maybe you can settle an ongoing argument for me, did you fall or did you jump into the crowd? Whichever, Good on you dude for carrying on playing, must have hurt!
I, uh... I, fell.
8. Did you ever get the opportunity to meet Kurt?
No, I never did. I wish I had though. I know that Flea and he were pretty close.
9. you said you did very light weights 2x a week. as a certified personal trainer i'm wondering how you stay ripped with good size on VERY light weights?
Lots of cardio, no carbs after 3pm, and high repitition on the weights. For instance, bicep curls, I only use 8 or 10 pounds, but I do 3 sets of 30 reps.
10. Being that I myself do this, I was wondering if you have ever cut yourself, or wanted to?
Yes, I used to do that. I sopped years ago. Try checking this out.

Well, as I said, I'll post about some kind of chat thing tomorrow. Goodnight all,
Dave

Hey Dave, i was just wondering what your thoughts were on the differences between TNO and "Spread". Alot of your fans have heard "Spread" and tend to prefer the rough "bluesy" versions to the cleaned up "metal" ones. For solo album number 2 (which i am assuming will come out SOME day), will you go more stripped-down, or continue on with the polished metal sound?
Posted by: Six7Six7 at July 10, 2004 12:12 AM
By the way, i think you (and Steve and Chris) and fucking great, and have been banned from TWO Jane's Addiction message boards for standing up for you.
How do you feel about the current split that the fans have taken on the big jane's topic? Does it bug you that people who once stood behind you, are now insulting you?
Posted by: Six7six7 at July 10, 2004 12:17 AM
A couple of things real quick here... First, I want to let you know that I fully support you on any and all projects, and I'm looking forward to hearing the new band, the Camp Freddy CD, and your next solo project...
Second... Wanted to say "Thank you" for the great music over the years and for inspiring me to pick up a guitar and learn to play. I play drums and piano too, but there's nothing like guitar...
And two questions: When will we get to hear you sing again? You have an amazing voice and I really hope to hear it more often.
Also, I found a small clip of "Five Years Gone" and I love it. Any chance we'll hear that on a CD sometime?
Peace,
Tim
Posted by: Nitewing at July 10, 2004 01:30 AM
i want to agree with Nitewing (tim) there. You have a great voice Dave, and should sing more. Perhaps a track on the new Camp Freddy album would be appropriate. And backup vocals in the new band would probably be a good idea.
Posted by: Six7Six7 at July 10, 2004 01:39 AM
Ahhh Dave shudh have guessed your on a mac.
Ok, well I believe (fingers crossed) with the help of AJ that we can get an IRC server setup for the purpose of the chats. Which will have a main chat channel for the 'events'.
The chats can be done in hmm I would say three ways... im not sure youll understand what Im on about here but youll learn in time im sure heh:
1. You and someone else are 'Operators' (@ before name) in the channel, and the channel is muted, which means those without a 'voice' (have + before name) or OP cannot speak. So you give on person at a time, say in alphebetical order to ask you questions... so its very ordered etc., after theyve finished they get the voice taken away again.
2. A free for all, everyone can speak-- so i spose its a proper online chat but it could get way outta hands if its peeps just gonna be answering questions, but if peeps want to discuss rather than ask questionsthen its should work.
3. People send me or someone else all the questions that they want answered by email, the channel is muted, but the person who has the questions and yourself are opped or voiced..... I would just copy and paste the questions into the channel one at a time so they can be answered in an ordered way.
Any querys etc.......????????

Do you smoke while you work out?
Posted by: six9six9 at July 10, 2004 06:29 AM
hey Dave, I don't think you remember this but maybe you do. I saw your show with Jane's Addiction in Milan last October and you gave one of your picks to my girlfriend. Three days later I was in Barcelona and showed to you a sheet with on it something like "I was in Milan, you gave your pick to my girlfriend". You smiled and at the end of the song you put the pick you were using into my hand. I just wanted you to know it was a beautiful moment.
ps I also have a picture shot at the Barcelona show with you and Perry looking at me with a weird face like if you were thinking "where the hell have I seen this man before?" (but it probably was just my imagination)

Hi, Dave
Do you have a plan to come to Japan again in the future? It's only two times I saw you, one was as RHCP,another was as JA two years ago.
I wanna see your stage more. Many fans in Jpn are waiting for you.

I'm looking forward to the chat with you, Dave, and everyone else here. I personally think that idea 1 and 2 are the best. We may want to start with idea 2 and just see if it works. I don't know if Dave wants this to be just a place to talk with everyone or if he wants to answer questions. I mean, it may be cool to just shoot the shit about whatever, but the obvious concern is that it'd just be everyone going 'DAVE! AHH!! I LOVE YOU!!' or whatever. I'm sure most of us just want to chat about whatever, so idea 2 may be cool to start with. If it gets out of hand, idea 1 is very cool too.
I'll be watching for this!

Dave,
Do you know how much people admire you for interacting with them here? You must really be a great person, either that or you enjoy the attention. :o)
I hope I don't miss you're online chat (I seem to miss everything else people talk about here) If you are inviting people, please include me.

Cool, I'm glad the chat is going to happen, that would be awesome.:-) What's Carmen working on these days? I saw some cute pictures of you guys on gettyimages reading a book to kids - was that for the Pediatric Aids Charity you work with? My dad's a pediatric neurologist, and he always says a lot of pediatric programs are grossly underfunded, so it's awesome you guys support that.:-)
DeathBecomesMe, I hope things are looking up for you. I know how hard it can be. Keep strong, you can do it.:-)

Please, Don't stop making music as Jane's. I gladly invite any break-off music but I waited so long for a Jane's album and I believe Stray's is the best one yet! I need Jane's music. Most music out there is so bland. Either way good-luck and god bless.

a reason to dig out mIRC at last *grins* I don't have digital TV or whatever, so are you any good at poker? Would've been fun to watch. (:
My great-grandma has a Yorkie... actually she's had yorkies for at least 2 years, we've had the most recent (rather aptly named 'Sophie') for seven years. She's manic... d'you just have the one dog, or are you somewhat Osbourne-esque and have lots?
We have two. Mine likes Avoiding The Angel, no shit. (:

chat topic: Navarro Trivia
you can ask questions relating to your career and whoever gets the most right wins a pair of tickets to the next Camp Freddy show. Or like what you did on Camp Freddy radio, someone gives an answer and you make up the question? That was fun. You can even have a guest and do it relating to their career.
maybe we can somehow set up teams? That might complicate things though.

Hey dave, I just want to thank you for taking the time and talking to us we really appreciate it. i met you last year when u did a signing with janes in NYC at tower records i told you to never stop makin music and im glad you're doing just that. My question is, did you ever write a song or music and ended up not liking it if so which ones? Also, if there's a situation where you write somethin you and Perk really dig it and the rest of the band doesnt or the other way around how does that get resolved? Thanks a lot man

Hey guys! Re. IRC:
Dave, I talked to the networking folks at Hostway, and I have to tell you I was rather surprised at the immediate reaction. Overall, the answer I got was 'sure, but it's going to take a little time to setup.' The biggest excuse I got was 'security concerns'. I guess some people like to crash networks that run IRC servers. So, it's not hopeless, but it's going to take more than I expected.
In the meantime, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't just try using like EFNet or DALNet as an experiment. I'm sure as with anything, the first couple of times we could have some difficulty.
Regardless of *where*/what network we do this on, for your own sanity, you may want to have a moderator to review questions. If you +v everyone, all the people connected can talk in the room at one time, making it very difficult to tell who's turn it is, etc. Of course, depending on your mood, you may opt for irc anarchy >)
Back to making dinner. Dave, parting question, I was listening to "One Hot Minute" earlier, and I wondered on "Walkabout", what equipment/effects are you using for the solo? I also played "T.N.O." a couple times; totally dig the guitar work man. You just rule.
later,
aj

Dave,
No question for you this time. I just want to thank you for being cool enough to devote alot of time like this for your fans. Most people with fame seem to distance themselves, but this is too fucking cool. You seem open to answering anything and the updates are great. Keep this good thing going, and I hope to see Camp Freddy in NY in October. I seen you guys at Roseland last year and you actually handed me your pick after I had dropped the first one you threw (damn stagelights). Anyways thanks for everything.
Fuck Nick Lachey!

that could be topic for the chat..
"Should Dave be collaboriting with others that don't fit with his rock style?"
Now Tommy Lee, that's a guy I can see Dave jamming with.
Nick Lachey would be interesting... He seems like the type of guy that's kind of holding back his wild side and would actually turn out being a wild animal and great as a rocker and surprising us.

Dave Navarro is one crafty bastard for posting what he said about his CPS turn last week; I read his "able to contribute $5000" as "I lost," which isn't exactly what he said. Since the losers get $5K, though, that's what I thought he meant. My girlfriend and I just watched it on the Tivo, and I kept waiting for him to fall behind -- but he never did, at least not for long.
Of course, he meant he got AT LEAST $5K. Sneaky man, Navarro. Which makes sense, for a poker player. Congrats.
