Out of the Garage!
![]()
OK. Here is that version of The Bed. (Agian with Chad Smith.) This Lou Reed song appears on the album, Berlin. If you haven't heard the original, you got to check it out. It'll tear your f@!#ing heart out.
Next up, a track that originally appeared on the Rhimorse EP. I think it was later released on some Japanese import or something like that. I did this at my house very late at night. I was driving down the street after a painful breakup and I was feeling really sad. I saw this girl on the sidewalk and I thought, "Hey, she's really cute! Maybe I CAN be attracted to someone new after all!" As I got closer, I was shocked to discover that the girl, was in fact, the very same girl that had broken my heart. (insert game show loser music) So I went home and this song is what came of it. ("I'm thinking... I'm sorry!" is Aimee Echo, from theStart... following the Not For Nothing outro vamp with Chad Smith.)
BTW: I found a VHS copy of the Venus video, so as soon as I can rock it Quicktime style, I will.
1. Are you going to post some new pictures for us Dave?
I would love to, but the truth is that I don't really have any new ones. Not yet, anyway. A lot of people have been posting links to stuff, and I appreciate it. As soon as we have stuff to put up, it'll be up.
2. When were your comments on VH1 I love the 90’s filmed?? How’s the set up there (i.e. are everyone’s comments filmed on the same day, do they send you footage of what you’re covering before going…??)
Here is how that works. When you go down to the studio for some unrelated story, for instance, Carmen and I were doing something about the show, they ask if you are interested in also commenting on the 90's thing. So, they sit you down and just ask you a few unrehearsed things for about a half an hour. Really simple and easy.
3. What made you start taking drugs again during the.....a-hem..."relapse tour" after staying clean for all those years?
I had been clean for five years and just kind of stopped doing the things that kept me clean such as prayer, meditation and being of service. I got all, "self-involved". Naturally, once you stop taking your medicine, you get sick again. Good question.
4. Time for me to rack your brain. What was the deal with the homage to Rene Russo a few years back?
She just rules. Carmen even said it would be OK if, well, you know... BTW: Any one have the picture of Rene and I from back then? (an obviously Photoshopped B&W)
(Thank you, Christina. ATTN: F.B.I. Red Flag!)
5. Has your opinion on "One Hot Minute" changed since its release almost 9 years ago?
I love it. When I hear it, I can actually hear myself growing as a guitar player as a result of playing with those guys.
6. Serious Man ... DAVE! Listen up! ... can I make an lyric to this song??? I would like to play it with my band!
Be my guest, you have official permission.
7. BTW - can you shed some light on Eric Avery for us all? Why didn't he want to relapse?
You know, that is really for Eric to say. I know he is happy and touring with Alanis. As for an earlier question, yes, Flea and I appear on You Oughtta Know. Our friend Jimmy Boyle was remixing the track and asked us to join him. In fact, Jimmy was responsible for how the song sounded, not the credited producer. No offense to him (the producer), he's awesome, but that is the truth. Odd, but Chris Chaney was with Alanis before I met him. She is kind of the Bermuda Triangle of music.
8. I was wondering the date when Carmen and you started to go out.
It was November 10th, 2000.
9. I just have this really bad feeling at the moment...and unlike other times, where I haven't cared if I cut or not...this time, I feel like I'm going to betray someone, I dont know who, maybe it's you cause you said you managed to stop...and I can't.
DBM, you may want to try to see someone or find a support group. I understand your confusion, I really do. For me, I just got to the point where enough was enough. I wish I could help more, but I fear giving advice about something so serious. I would seek the input of a professional.
10. You say your a big Pink Floyd fan me too!! My favourite album being Animals, which is yours?
I love Animals too, but I would really have to say that The Wall, is just perfect!
Thank you for your questions, comments and links...

Hey, Dave
Second comment for me. My best friend's bro lent me a Chili Peppers demo CD. It had unreleased stuff from different albums throughout their career. One song (don't know the name) had a chorus that repeated the words "slay my shame". I have a feeling you were the guitarist on that one. Am I right? That song RAWKS. How come it wasn't on One Hot Minute? That album was one of the Chilis' best, btw.

Dave
When did you stop doing the hard drugs for good...I mean, once the relapse tour was over, was it true you continued using 'til late 2000? I'm sorry for posting another drug question, but I'm just curious to know how it all went down after the relapse tour...thanks
oh, tell perry i said hi...lol, i'm kidding
anyway, keeping rockin'

Dave,
Any chance of getting the Decon album out on something like iTunes?
Thanks for the downloads, "Fire" rocks....
Posted by: schwing at July 16, 2004 09:35 AM
Yep Dave I agree, The Wall is a masterpiece that is for sure!
Pink Floyd has been a rock, musically as far as I am concerned, that I have clung happily to for as long as I can recall.
Take care and Happy Weekend Everyone!!

Dave- Hello, I am glad you are rocking on and doing your thing! I have an interesting inquiry here for you. Maybe you can help me out here? I went to see you/Jane's play in San Diego this summer on the Lolla tour and I meet this incredible woman wearing camo pants, dark green t-top, long brown hair/super tan. She was really sweet and very well spoken. We chatted for awhile becuase we both had VIP passes, we couldn't get back stage and there was really no place for us to sit. I had VIP passes from another band and well she had a pass for Jane's. She said she was a friend of Chris Channey and she was from LA and she kept calling him on her cell. So my question here is "Is she married to Chris?" If not, please tell Chris/"to the mystery woman" that I think she is beautiful!!!! By the way what's her name? Thanks Brett

Speaking of Pink Floyd. Did you see the Roger Waters tour in 2000 w/ Snowy White and Doyle Bramhall II on guitars? If for some reason you missed this, you should go out right away and buy the DVD from this tour called In The Flesh. It's musically better than Pink Floyd ever was!

Patrick, I think you're referring to Let's Make Evil? That is a b-side. Is that a different version of it or a maybe a completely different song? I'm curious to know. Where did your friend's bro get that CD?

About "I love the 90's"...for '97 i think it was...you said you had "barbie girl" on your ipod. Is that true...or were you being funny...cause if it's true...i think it's kind of funny lol...i love your comments on that show...sooo funny...i just love you (in a platonic, as an artist way...cause i don't really know you lol)
"the bed" is a great song...and you do a great cover of it too...in fact...you're good at covering the velvet underground in general...i loved "venus in furs". thanks for all the great music.

Great tracks! Now, I need to go out and hear Lou Reeds version. I actually used the outro for Something Else for a short film I made a couple of years ago. It was a very dark/surreal film. I could never do anything with it festival wise because I never got permission to use the music! (I also used music from the Polanski film The Ninth Gate).

dave,
what do you think of rick rubin, what encounters have you had with him? I read somewhere that he bought the house in the hollywood hills where BSSM was recorded because he loved it so much, so is that also where slipknot recorded?
he was meant to be at the helm of the new NIN album but Trent has apparently decided to produce it himself, but Rick is acting as a "great source of inspiration." i have a great amount of respect for him and hope to meet him one day, maybe even work with him.
please answer this one dave, thanks a lot for this sight, you really come across as a good person, i had previously overlooked you as anything more than a good guitarist.

Dave,
Thank you. I understand why you don't wanna give any serious advice on the subject...but I am glad that you would care enough to even answer me...after all I do seem a little f***ed up...especially for saying this stuff here.
But thank you so much...
It lifts my spirits...and I will seek some help...unless fear gets the better of me...
Ever loving

Do you have a favourite Marilyn Manson album?
Once again thanks a lot for this great opportunity to get burning questions answered.

I can't wait to listen to all of these clips once I get home from work and get some free time. (Don't you hate when real life gets in the way of the Internet? LOL)
I'm looking forward to seeing how this site evolves. I'm also looking forward to Veronica's awesome "Dave is God" site hopefully being back up soon.
That's it for now.

Question: When you and C.E go to clubs, how do you deal with the dancing "obligation" factor? Do you Dance with her or just sit and watch her dance with others?

I can't thank you enough for all these downloads- its a pity more musicians aren't as generous!
Could u please answer this question Dave because you havnt really answered any of my questions. If you could re-live any moment in your life what moment would that be and why?
Thank you, love always,

Personally i think your singing is at its best on "the bed" its such a sad and emotional track its absoloutly amazing, why o why was it not on the european version of TNO.
I also thought about this today, the first ever album i owned was Mariyln Manson - Mechanical Animals with you on it (his best im my opinon)
so before i even knew of you i was listening to you alot as (cant remember which one it was) with you playing on it i listened to constantly.

Dave:
Out of all the songs you've written/co-written with Jane's, the Peppers and your solo career, which are you most proud of? Like you just have to say to yourself, "damn I can't believe I wrote that." Thanks and love the site!

Hey Dave! This is my first time posting on your site. :D I am glad I thought to see if anything new was up today.. your site was down for quite awhile.
this is more of a silly curiousity than anything else... Someone "told" me your AIM username supposedly a few years ago and I imed it, and someone asked if I was a panty hose girl and i asked "what?" and I was blocked.. hehe. Was it you?
(Aw, you probably wouldnt remember.)
Anyhow, great stuff. I saw Janes in Seattle awhile ago with Martyn playin bass (I also bought your cd there) You guys were magical...I have some snapshots if you would like me to submit them I will. I managed to stay up front the entire show.. Only a few times this tall jerk hit my camera with his arms.. grr
Well I have admired you for like my entire 21 years of existence, and I am so excited that you may actually read this, and go.. 'whoa, she is a DORK!' It would be so cool to get insulted by someone famous. <3

I know you probably know this, but there is a way to embed a video into your site so it plays without streaming or downloading. If you don't know how to do it, copy it from the source code of the site of mine that I linked to this one. But I am sure you do know how, because your site is WAAAY cooler than anything I can make.
You can make fun of my site if you wish.. It is stupid. I spent 10 minutes making it so i could remember my HTML.. :D And so I have a link to put in the space LINK in peoples message boards. :P haha.
And *please* dont watch the video of me playing guitar. I dont know how to play for real. I never even tried to learn! I just like the noises I can make when I am playing it.

Also, I got a number and address through my sleuthing that I think may be Perry's.. I never did anything with it in the 7 yrs I have had it, but maybe you can verify its authenticity if I email it to you? Because if its real I would love to write to it.. But I won't post it here because I respect privacy... But yeah.. email me and I will send it to you. ;) Maybe you can send me yours as well...Hah. Like you probably havent heard that one before.
And the snapshots from the concert too, of course..

...which got me to thinking... whenever I go looking through stuff to find something, I am always delayed by all the other crap I've got stored...
...so just wondered if you found anything else interesting you forgot you had in the garage.

hey Dave, earlier in the board when you said:
"The hamster line is in reference to when I had two hamsters when I was young, and one ate the other. That was when I learned about death. "
I think I know what happened. If you put a male in a females cage she will kill him for trying to do it with her in her own cage(tee hee--I know that idea probably makes you all giggle) because they are territorial, solitary animals.
(plus we females in general tend to be just a little territorial sometimes.. ;) )
What had happened was my mom put my sisters hamster in my hamsters cage and they were dead the next day..
(She was trying to mate them)
It was sucky.. My hamster (speedy, a girl) killed hers (teddy, a boy) and then she died a few days later from something internal.
Its a bit irrelevant, but hey-- if you try to mate hamsters any time in your life.. the female goes into the males cage and NEVER leave them overnight! Theres your useless information for the day..

Dave,
If you want instead of posting MP3's of your unreleased songs, I can upload them onto a site into FLAC format and you can post a link. (FLAC is digital lossless audio) The MP3's sound "Swooshy", and this would give everyone a clean copy. I would like your permission first since it is your work and not mine. I can have it set up before Sunday night.

Thanks so much Dave for the mp3s. It's really awesome that you're doing this for your fans. I was watching I love the 90s and you come on the tv and I thought to myself "here's the guitarist you've looked up too for all your teenage years, and you've actually made some sort of contact with him". It really blows my mind away that you've given your fans this level of access, even answering our questions (waits for the amazement to stop). ok, I wanted to ask you when you had your first band EVER, did you have high priced equipment like Gibsons and Marshall amps or did that come later in your career when you had money to spend on that kind of stuff? I'm basically wondering what I should buy and expect to spend on a guitar amp rig thats for playing small halls and clubs but doesn't leave me totally broke.Wouldn't something like 130 watts do? Being that you've done that stuff I wanted to know if you had any suggestions. Thanks you very much Dave, I really appreciate it.

Dear Luiz:
My name is Justice Howard and I am the photographer that did the
photos you are so enamored with. The model he posed with was
simply a friend of mine at the time and a girl who I had shot quite
often, her name was Jenna and I picked her due to her most beautiful
legs and posterior. It was a simple and professional shoot that
went late into t he morning 3 am or 4 am i think, I shot many rolls
of film but the ones posted on my website are my favorite images. I
was so email bombarded by all the Dave fans that wanted to see them,
that I loaded a gallery of my faves from that shoot to placate them
all. Dave has a real charisma in front of the camer & is a fabulous
model, one of the best male models I’ve had in front of my lens
actually. Being a professional celebrity photographer I’ve had many
men in front of my camera, Marilyn Manson, Billy idol, Eric Burdon,
Waylon Jennings, men from THE MEN show in LAS VEGAS (similar to Chippendales) etc, But i will say that DAVE has a charisma in front of the lens like no male I have encapsulated
on film.
Hope this helps>>>>J

Hey Dave, I'm curious. As a theraputic journalor, i.e. one who only writes in attempt to clear out the crap or perserve the (too few) happiest times, how do you keep daily journaling from becoming yet another thing that HAS to be done? I will expound continuously the benefits of a journal, but do you find it as effective once it becomes a daily chore between coffee and brushing your teeth?
