Iris

dave_spread_icon
This is one of my favorite tracks from the Deconstruction album... Iris, named after the unborn daughter of drummer and father to be, Michael Murphy. The song is instrumental and features Eric Avery on bass. We wrote the track while on a trip to San Francisco. In fact, before Michael Murphy's wife was pregnant, the song was called, San Francisco.

Hey there Dave!
I've been lurking around this site since you re-opened it, and I must say I am truly greatful for the effort you put in it!
I just wanted to let you know that I have two Deconstruction- demos if you're interested, America and Jealous song.
By the way, I really enjoyed seeing you on CPS, when is the final game being aired? Have you taped it already perhaps?
Keep up the sweet work, dude!

Dave: What is your favorite song(s) that you've written that surprisingly gets the least attention?

Posted by: schwing at July 15, 2004 11:29 AM

Thank you, Dave!

I love Deconstruction...!

Any chance of you and Eric ever resuming that project? I´d love to hear some more tunes like this:

"A girl walking by my window/ she couldn´t be older than 14..."
"pull me into you... on your daddy´s couch..."

and so on...

...so sexy, so twisted, so wicked and dark...!

DECON rules! :O)

Love from
Luiz.

Someone in the last post's comments wrote about Three Days and what your opinion of it is. I would be curious to know that too...it's such a great movie. What are your feelings on the relapse tour in general? Thanks man...and someone else posted that you made her happy in a time of stress...well I concur...your TNO cd was such an amazing part of my life that really helped me through a very very bad time...so thank you!!

Great Decon track. IS there any unreleased tracks from those years?

On to RHCP...
Lets Make Evil sounds more like a Jane's song than most of Strays.

The Chili years are a really underrated time for one of the best efforts in my 3K plus collection for a guitarist. Nice work on that album. It is a shame JF can't learn your tunes.

Posted by: Darshan at July 15, 2004 12:31 PM

I heard that Jane's had some shows professionaly shot last tour for a live DVD. Is this true and is it still in the works or has it been scrapped.
much respect

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the communicado. BTW - can you shed some light on Eric Avery for us all? Why didn't he want to relapse? What's his current relationship with JA members? Is he done with Polar Bear?

Thanks again!

This is directed to Obvious. You can get Decon at half.com for far less than ebay. They sell both used and new copies.

Dave,
I know I shouldn't do this, cause I shouldn't be asking for help, or posting this on a website that doesn't really relate to this, but as you said you've cut before...
I just have this really bad feeling at the moment...and unlike other times, where I haven't cared if I cut or not...this time, I feel like I'm going to betray someone, I dont know who, maybe it's you cause you said you managed to stop...and I can't.
Im not saying this to get attention from you or anyone else...maybe im betraying myself.
Maybe I should delete all this and say something like 'love you Dave, your cool, keep rocking' but Im sick of being false to everyone, even to myself...
Im sick of everything...

Like I said...I'm sorry

Posted by: DeathBecomesMe at July 15, 2004 03:12 PM

That's a great song, thanks for posting it.:-) I love the name Iris too (not that anyone asked - I just think it's so cute lol:-))

Hi Dave,

I saw you in the video for a band called LIFTER, the song was called "Headshot". In fact, I was watching it before. Did you play on their album? Any chance of posting the video here for the fans who might be interested?

'Deconstruction' has always been one of my fave recordings by you, it's always reminded me of a soundtrack in search of a great movie to accompany! Ha. I mean that in the best possible sense! It's extremely atmospheric, 'Decon" proves music doesn't need lyrics to be 'meaningful'!

I had no clue the 'Deconstruction' CD was so hard to find, I bought 3 copies at one of The Wiz' NYC stores before they went out of business. Little did I know I was sitting on 'ebay gold'! I gave 2 away as parts of Xmas gifts. If I see any 'Decon' CDs floating around, I'll pick them up! Then we can have a bidding war here. lol

Nice to see Justice put your photos back up, looks like she added some EXTRA shots from the session! LUCKY US! Justice is an awesome photographer! Will you be posing again for her? You & Carmen!

As always, all the best to you & Carmen!

Stay cool.

Cheers for the downloads Dave!
Do you know the band Gong at all? Have you ever met or thought of doing something with David Allen? Now that I would love to hear.

You say your a big Pink Floyd fan me too!!
My favourite album being Animals, which is yours?

Thanks for the daily cheer, every time I pull up your site there is some new delight for me to look at or listen too.

and deathbecomesme...please hang in there...you never know what you're going to contribute to this world...and it might be the most important...so please stick it out.

Dave,

Are there any unreleased songs from the Deconstruction album session? As crazy as it sounds, that album got me through a lot way back in '94. If so, I would love to hear them.

peace,

Hey Dave,

The weekend is approaching! This will (hopefully) be the first time I'll get to tune into CFR on Saturday night. I *sure* hope that 1031.fm streams your show over the Net.

Anything we can look forward to hearing about from you and the guys? Maybe a shout out to all of us on here that think you're THE SHIT for keeping in touch with us!? :-) Actually, could you guys play something live from the material you've been working on...maybe a little unplugged action? That would rock the casbah.

I know I said it before, but I *must* repeat...the downloads are just great man! I've watched the VIF video (too) many times; mostly because I feel it's a great work of art. Watching a piece like that is such a wonderful way to free your mind from the monotony that life brings sometimes.

Can't get your riffs outta my head (don't want to anyways)...

Cool track.
I got your instructional video a few years back and I am still haunted by visions of Tom Kolbs mullet! What's up with that? Even in the eigthies that wouldn't have been cool!

Posted by: john scottzenegger at July 15, 2004 09:07 PM

If I'm correct Dave didn't you and Flea both play on "You Outta Know" by Alanis Morrissette? How did you guys end up playing on that song???

Scott

Posted by: Scott at July 15, 2004 09:17 PM

Man, this site is hard to keep up with. You guys are brutal!

Dave, I can't believe how fast you hooked up that live chat. I always have to resist the urge to swing from your nuts like Jane through the jungle when I get on here. Half the time I start to post something, then quit because I think I sound like a pathetic groupie, which makes me feel like an ass. But I'm convinced that you are the coolest AND hottest guy ever. You are ridiculously perfect. It kills me. K, end of nut-swinging.

Luiz! I'm so glad you made into the live chat. I missed the post where you talked about your job, but my guess is that you are too good for that place. Oh, and can you send me that link to your song? I just found a way around that problem I was having before. I have to save the files first. Isn't that weird? Whatever. At least it works.

Crecencia, that was a nice post. You can check out Camp Freddy videos at http://notfornothing.net/ Don't miss Hey Joe. It kicks ass!

I have an idea that I wanted to run by everyone, but I'll save that for next time, since this post is long enough already.

Hey Dave

This is the best album I've heard. It has inspired my as a musician, as a writer, as a plastic artist... It has influenced my way of playing bass and drums, in a real HEAVY way (and I have no idea of who Michael Murphy is!! but he became one of my teachers).

I think I'll never stop being thankful of knowing the Chili Peppers, who lead me to Jane's Addiction, who lead me to Deconstruction. Fucking awesome.

Mmmm...... random question... do you remember any movie or music that you've cried A LOT to?

I just saw (once again) the final episode of FRIENDS, and from minute 7 or so I start crying and I never stop til the end. And it's the 6th time I watch it. I also cry watching Dumbo... Or sometimes listening to Decon, or Ritual, or both Porno albums. Also to some Banyan. Fuck I'm a cry baby.

Hugs Dave, Perk :) ... Chris and Steve... I still have to meet ya :P

Peace
Larry

Hey Dana,

Thank you so much for your interest and kind words...!

Check out this link here...It will take you to a strange page in Portuguese where you´ll find a picture of some dude trying to look cool. Ignore him. He is a very silly man. But he has recorded some interesting covers, I reckon...lol... Focus on those. The guy´s name is Luiz, yours truly.

Here it goes...
http://www.geocities.com/luiz_marcondes_music/negro_verso.html

Also, this link here is from Marcio´s website - he is the guitar player/ producer of the whole mess.

But hey, guess what! This time you can click away without fear, cos you won´t land in no weird page with foreign words that mean God knows what.

That´s right! This time you will be taken straight to my Jeff Buckley (God rest his soul - and what a beautiful soul it was)cover. Click here:

http://www.marcionigro.com.br/wokeup.zip

Unzip the file and have fun!

Again, thanks for your interest. That means a LOT to me.

Much love, respect and gratitude from
Luiz.
