CPS
The support here has been incredible! Thank you all so much for participating. What's been going on? Well, we have been jamming at Perk's house for a while now, which has been great, but we decided to finally take it to a full on rehearsal space with a proper P.A. and monitors and mics and A/C. We start that today. Steve I asked me if I'd be into doing any TNO songs like Hungry in our set. I have to run it by Chris and Stephen, but, sure, I'm into that. Could make for an interesting variety of music.
On Thursday night, July 8th, I will be appearing on Celebrity Poker Showdown, on Bravo. What a blast that was. I was not only able to play Texas Hold'em, my favorite way to waste time and money, but I was able to help out my favorite charity, The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
Carmen and I have been involved with them for several years now. I was able to donate $5000.00 as a result of the appearance on CPS.
Your questions have been great! I was able to get to fifteen of them today:
1. you often speak highly of trent reznor and nine inch nails, i was wondering if for some unforeseen reason they had parted ways with robin, would you consider trying to fill that gap and become a member of the band?
God, that is a tough one. Honestly, I think I would rather remain a fan. I was able to do a couple of songs with him back in 1991, and that was such a rush. I also did a re-mix with him on Further Down the Spiral. For those experiences, I count my blessings.
2. Was that a real eel you slammed against the table? Also, is/was Stephen really disgusted by fruits?
No, it absolutely was not. Yes, he absolutely is.
3. Dave, I tried to order your instructional guitar video, a month later I got an email that it was no longer available. Help me find it please. Also is it available on DVD?
I have no idea how to find that thing. It is not on DVD and I don't even own one or I'd send it to you.
4. My question is have you ever jammed with a girlfriend? Or does Carmen play any instruments?
My ex-girlfriend, Monet, (still a great friend) had a band called Nancy Raygun. I did some shows with her. Carmen plays the drums and we have done lots of jamming. She likes to play Zeppelin and White Stripes.
5. Is it true that you and PRS are makin a navarro siginture and is it gonna be in a se model?
We have been toying around with the idea. It's not certain yet, but that would be awesome. If it ever happens, I'll let you know.
6. I was just wondering, with this new band, are you going to be experimenting with any new ideas (e.g. new styles) than previously? Also, are you trying out any new equipment (i.e. new guitar, effects pedals)?
We are always open to anything. So far it has been a basic rock band vibe. When we get into production is when we experiment with stuff. As long as we still sound like four guys playing music, anything goes.
7. Is your MTV show available on DVD?
I think that comes out in October too.
8. If it's true about how Axl Rose asked you a while ago to join the new GNR and you declined citing your CD as the reason, has he contacted you after that and after Buckethead left?
That was years ago and I declined because Eric A and I were doing Decon. I finally got to work with him on a song that appears on The End of Days soundtrack.
9. can you explain the meaning of the roman numerals on your fingers?
My left hand has 13, 13, my lucky number and my right hand has my birthday, 6/7/67.
10. What is your morning routine like? Do you make your bed? Do you drink coffee?
Start the coffee, make my bed, read and journal (one page a day), pray then hit the gym. It's a lot better than what I used to do. Many years ago I would wake up in a panic, find something electronic to pawn, see the dope man and waste the day away in misery. I am a lot happier this way!
11. i know this man named david who i am dating, and he has lumpy cum, i am not sure if you are familiar with it but it is equivalent to the consistency of cottage cheese, im sure you have heard of a lot of vanerial diseases, should I be worried? should I stop swollowing?
I really have no idea what that is all about. Sounds like a question for Dr. Drew. I looked it up online and found this: "You are having sex far too often. Those lumps are in fact small chunky bits of the lining of your urethra." Still, I'd ask a doctor.
12. did you play with Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver) on your solo tour?
Yes, he has been a great friend for many years.
13. Do you still believe in the Love/Christmas Theory? You and Carmen seem to be the living proof that such a thing as true love really exists, so...:)
I'd say no. The cool thing about having a theory is being able to disprove it.
14. I have recently downloaded the Hungry screensaver (which is really cool) but I am wondering what the significance is with a poodle and a turtle (if any)? :)
The poodle was Carmen and the turtle was me! I also just liked the juxtaposition of the cute cartoons against the dark lyrics.
15. When did you start wearing make-up and feminine clothes on a day to day basis off stage as well as on?
Kind of a long time ago. It's just fun to change up the vibe from time to time. I don't do it as much now, but it is still fun to have the option. There is a fine line, which I have crossed over and over, between getting into character and being a character!
That's it for now,
Dave

Comments
Dave, I remember in 1990 that you played in Mexico City with Jane's Addiction, and it was a legendary event, and here it was a rumor that some mexican bands (alterlatino bands) from the 90s like Maldita Vecindad and Caifanes have met Jthe band and maybe made friends with you and the band... In fact Maldita Vecindad appears in the Stop video... What you recall from that? Are you related to the latin rock scene? Any collaborations with mexican or latin rockers? What you think of that music? Are you mexican?

Hey, Dave
Thanks for another cool update...! :O)
I get a feeling that this new project of yours is gonna ROCK so fucking much! And I do believe you should play some of your solo songs too. EVERYTHING immediately comes to mind... You guys could do something really heavy with that one...
I never heard a live version of it! Have you played it live at all? I love its lyrics too. So dark, with that sort of tormented sexiness that I dig so much about your work...
Another thing is:
When are we gonna have a LIVE chat with you? Please indulge your fans! That would be awesome beyond words... Please give this idea some thought and let us know WHEN: Will be there FOR SURE, man!
thanks a lot!
Love, love, love from
Luiz.

I can't find a link to ask you a question, but I have the most important kind of question....A poker question.
I guess I'm just dumb???
Posted by: John at July 7, 2004 11:09 AM
I agree, a live chat would be awesome! That's good news about the DVD of 'Til Death Do Us Part, I'll be ready in October. I should have money saved up by then.:-)
Have you ever seen The Butterfly Effect Dave? I'm watching it right now w/ my brother - crazy. That drawing the kid was awesome.:-)

I think you look nice in, er..."girly" clothes.
'Nother curieuse... (a big whle-hearted, 'woot!' for my pseudo-French!) how many CDs do you own (at last count, anyway?) Are there any you're ashamed/proud as hell of owning? And are you like John Cusack's chracter in High Fidelity and you sort your records? (:
Merci. (:

Hi,
Thanks for the inspirational music over the years. I’m a musician in my late 20’s. My guitar influences are of course your work with Janes along with Hendrix and Page and their styles/techniques. I came up on Rock and Classic Rock, but also pull influences from the trancy, effect driven genre that Massive Attack is known for. My favorite band will always be Janes though. The thing about those records that I still find intriguing is the style from track to track. The Cmaj7 scale jazz chords of Thank You Boys. The funk tempo of Pigs. Perk’s thundering drum changes on Obvious. The sheer spontaneity of Standing in the Shower etc. Raw energy. You guys hit it on the head. I agree that simplicity works and complexity is beautiful as well. It’s all about the current emotions you’re feeling.
A band I haven’t heard you talk about is Tool. Those guys have an amazing formula and continue to put out great records. They have a melodic, dissonant sound that builds and then finishes strong. Much like various Zep and your work on Three Days/ Then She Did. Stoked about the emerging Massive Attack meets rock concept in this respect.
What are your thoughts on Tool and would you guys ever enjoy working with Maynard on a track or two? I know Perks and Maynard both contributed to the RATM song “Know your enemy. Kick ass.
Thanks for the time.

I was just wondering, Dave, do you regret or dislike any of your tattoos and what would you say your favorite tat is?
Posted by: Seaside at July 7, 2004 11:32 AM
Dave,
Please tell Stephen to get on his board! I've got questions, and hopefully, he has answers.
thanks!
ps--While I'm here, I guess I have a question for you too. How is Chaney coping with all the stuff he's went through with Jane's the past year, year and a half??? That dude's gotta be like, whoa, I went from getting into the greatest rock band of all time to serious soap opera drama (that's been going on for years and years). Just curious to what his take has been on the past year's ups and downs.

Thank you very much for responding Dave! I appreciate everything you're doing on this site and the fact that you interact with the fans.

Dave- Glad you are doing well! Two questions.... Regarding your current situtation and how crazy the music industry is, have you ever thought about writing scores to independent movies since your a huge movie buff?
Ok... last one..I went to see you/Jane's in San Diego this past summer Lolla tour and I had a VIP pass from another band and I ran into to this incredible looking woman who was wearing camo pants and a camo color green t-shirt with long straight brown hair, super tan and really nice. We were trying to figure out where to sit since we both had VIP passes and we couldn't go back stage etc. She was very well spoken, super sweet and very attractive from LA. She said she was a long time friend of Chris, and she was trying to call him on her cell phone. Is she married to Chris? If not, please tell Chris/"to the mystery woman" that I enjoyed talking to her and that she is beautiful! What was her name by the way? Thanks Brett

Can you take us through your training schedule that you do? is it mostly cardio or weights? How early do you wake up to do this?

"Can you take us through your training schedule that you do? is it mostly cardio or weights? How early do you wake up to do this?"
Oh, yeah! I´d like to know about that, too Dave!
what do you do to avoid the boredom of the threadmill, for instance? do you jog outdoors a lot? do you ever get tired of lifting weights and shit? how can you add some variety to a repetitive activity like that?
thank you!
Love from
Luiz.

PS: I meant TREADMILL, sorry! I´m from Brazil and English is not my first language... (blushes and exits)

Hey Dave!
Trust No One is the best! Put me through a very, very difficult time. So thank you for the fantastic/beautiful music! My question is: you end this album with the track "Slow Motion Sickness"; maybe a strange question but what was your reason/explanation to write this song? Thank you so much...you're the best! Lique
Posted by: Lique at July 7, 2004 12:49 PM
Greetings from "sunny" scotland,
Just been lazily browsing on the net and thought i'd drop you a note. Seen you play with Jane's the last couple of times you played Glasgow. One outdoors, one in. Actually prefered the outdoor one strangly enough, was a day full of good memories for me (as well as too much beer etc).
Canny think of a decent question so thanks for the music n stuff. Hope to hear some new stuff soon.

What's the score with the new band?
I know nothing about anything...
Get John Frusciante on the new album cos I'd like to hear what he would do on top of you...
If you'll excuse the connotation.
Cheers amigo.

Dave I would like to invite you and Carmen and anyone else you want to bring to an RHCP (Rockinfreakapotamus) fanclub convention next month. We'll be assembling and having dinner at the House of Blues. I'm one of the organizers.
Just a warning that there will be over 200 people there.
I know you're a busy guy but we would be very honored to have you stop by even for just a minute to say hi. If you're up for it you can email Blackie or myself for more info. If you don't have Blackie's email, let me know how to get it to you. The link to my email is my highlighted username below.
(and to anyone thinking it, no i'm not just trying to get Dave to email me, this is a legitimate invitation)
hope you have a good week!

ive taken a long hard look at myself now thanks to the tryhard down to earth condescending advice of will, and i really regret all those perry is god,i hate that dave wears fancy pants and is 10 years older than he was 10 years ago posts.what was i thinking?you really put me in my place , you know, making me realise that things i never wrote were wrong. you just dont get it. you see i never said dave was the only one at fault i just questioned theXtreme asskissing he was revcieving given that he really hasnt done anything that great and the most of what he has done that was kinda great was as 12.5% of someone elses greatness. now the stuff about daves appearence i dont get, i never begrudged his glitterpants or poofy hair but that doesnt mean i cant mock them after all he does wear the glitterpants and have poofy hair.and really, of perhaps all the people on the planet dave has changed the least in 10 years i mean aside from the big change from curtains to poodle hair and a brief dress&feathery thing phase he still looks and acts in the same image before music way he did since janes ended the first time. if your gonna reply then read what i actually wrote fool or else just dont bother.

Dave just rocks...I love the way he dresses, looks, sings, plays guitar, and w/e else. Any guy that would take the time out of his day to answer questions personally is a great guy in my book. Anyway...weird questions...after Til Death Do Us Part, did any of the Jane's CD's or your "TNO" cd start to sell more units or whatnot? It would be interesting to see if that happened. Anyways...much luck in the future, and glad to see you're doing so well.
PS: Your Trust No One cd was my life for like 2 months, after someone I knew really well and really cared about, turned his back on me and just left me out in the cold, and it got me through some really bad times, so thank you.

Does Carmen's $20 Kmart lamp still have pride of place? Damn that was a bargain!
PS. Make sure you make plans for another gig at Rock City (Nottingham, England). When i saw you there with Jane's it was awesome! and also the first time id seen seen you play. It's upsetting to think it was the last :(

What's up Dave, im glad that you are being so kind to answer our questions. One of my questions is when you were younger like in H.S or in your'e early 20's did have low self-esteem or not liked yourself physically and if thats the reason why you started to work out? Is that why you always used dark sun glasses more often in the early Jane's concerts?
Posted by: Emily at July 7, 2004 04:10 PM
Hey Molly,
What are you doing this Sat. night? It seems you need to get a life and quit stalking Dave. So, why don't you look me up, and maybe we can hang sometime. :wink wink:
---------------------------------------------
Dave,
What's it like having losers like Molly (most likely a guy, I'm sure) stalk you? You've taken all the harsh comments posted here quite well I must say.
Peace, Love and Herbal Healing!

Hey Dave,
With the music inductry in such utter disarray now, what's the process in getting your new band up and running and in a position to be heard?
Rock on dude.

Hi Dave,
First of all I want to say thank you for having such a great site and providing people with such insight into your life. And as always thank you for the music...
Second, well these are some questions of a rather grim nature. Feel free to ignore them if you find them too harsh:
I read that in 1983 you were witness to the brutal murder of both your mother and aunt.
Why do you think your life was spared on that terrible day?
How do you think your life would have been different had your mother Constance survived?
What do you think she would say to you if she were to see you now? Would she approve of Carmen?
Do you ever dream about her?
Though I know it's many years later my heart goes out to you. -B

Hey Dave
Just checkin in here with the site. Awesome to see your keeping up with the constant posting. Dave would you drop a "hi Giovanni" in any random spot in any future post? Just been a shitty week & thought I'd ask. Just wanted to say thanks for making me wanna play my guitar again man....respect.

Oh yea!
Dave I recall reading in a interview on mtv.com where you were talking about camp freddy making a record with a different singer on each track you mentioned people like Britney,X-tina & Josh Todd. How is the recruitment of singers been going? Also were you friends with any of the guys in Buckcherry? Keith Nelson perhaps? He was a great guitarist with a lot of stage presence & I wonder if you guys knew each other.....
Thanks!

hey dave
I was wondering why Martyn Lenoble was asked to leave Jane's Addiction in 2002. I don't think that question has ever pubically been answered by anyone in the band.
thanks buddy

Just a couple of quick comments.
First, I think it is absolutely amazing the way you are connecting with people on this website. I thank God for the internet and the capability to be connected to people you would otherwise never have met.
Secondly, I have adored your musical genius since seeing you with Camp Freddy in NY a couple of years ago at the Rock The Vote thing. I consider that to have been a once in a lifetime concert. THANK YOU!
Ok here's my best question- Since all the labels are seemingly screwing talented artists right and left- why don't well to do musicians start their own label, sign the talent and treat them right? Eventually the "artists for artists" label will be signing the best acts and in order to compete other labels would have to work harder for their bands, treat them fairly and have a fairer distribution of profits??
Thanks and ROCK ON!!

If your bithday is 67 your chinese zodiac sign is the Ram. Here is what the chinese say about u Dave-
People born in the Year of Ram are elegant and highly accomplished in the arts. They seem to be, at first glance, better off than those born in the zodiac's other years. But ram year people are often shy, pessimistic, and puzzled about life. They are usually deeply religious, yet timid by nature. Sometimes clumsy in speech, they are always passionate about what they do and what they believe in. Ram people never have to worry about having the best in life for their abilities make money for them, and they are able to enjoy the creature comforts that they like. Ram people are wise, gentle, and compassionate. They are compatible with Rabbits, Pigs, and Horses.
