Community

freaklogoLet me just start by saying how much you guys rule! I am loving the vibe here. Today we put together a song called Half Hearted. A very cool little jam. Some of the other song titles are Loophole, She Won’t Last, Ashes, Unholy Ghost, Outsider and Nothing Wrong With Me. Things are going really great and most importantly, we are having a great time. We are thinking about a September show, God willing. I’ll keep you in the loop. More than likely it’ll be in some little club in L.A. My wife is in New York right now so tonight is all about X-Files and Splinter Cell… Who knows? Maybe I’ll even dial up some adult programming on cable. Oh yeah, thanx to FreAk for the cool image.

1. I was just wondering if you have heard of the new MetallicA movie coming out "Some Kind of Monster" and if you plan on seeing it.

I really am looking forward to that movie.

2. when did you get your first tattoo and what was it? And would you agree to say that it is kind of addictive?

I was 17. It was the pig on my left arm. Addictive? For me, yes.

3. Do you mind if I post a few TNO tabs up in a few weeks?

Please, feel free.

4. today I've come across pictures of you and Carmen grocery shopping this past Saturday...doesn't that just drive you crazy!?!?

That is so weird, we hardly ever go grocery shopping! I guess it’s no big deal.

5. I know when you said trust no one you dont belive in that ne more but why did you say that in the first place?

I guess I just wasn’t very trust worthy myself. I kind of used my past to excuse my behavior and that really ended up biting me in the ass.

6. You always smoke on stage, but I've never seen you light a ciggarette, do you have an assistant who does this for you and then hands you the ciggarette from below the stage or something?

Yeah, as terrible as it sounds, my tech lights them for me.

7. what is your favourite Science Fiction film of all time?

2001

8. I want to ask you where do you get the strength to talk about it???

I suppose the strength comes from knowing that my experience could potentially be helpful to someone or bring a little hope. You know what they say, even it you can help one person, its worth while.

9. Hey Dave, do you seriously have a stylist? If so i kinda think thats lame.

Well, yes I do, but the word stylist is misleading. Many would call stylists professional shoppers. They kind of bring you stuff and you pick out what you want to purchase. I am the worst shopper. I hate to drive around, look for parking, go in… blah, blah, blah. My wife, however, lives for it. Lame or not, my stylist rules!!!

10. I was just wondering what you thought about all the conspiracy theories regarding Kurt's death and if you have read any of the books that have come out about him and his death?

I have not read any of the books, but I just morn his loss and save the conspiracy issues for the fun stuff like U.F.O.’s, Black Helicopters and Government cover-ups.

Peace,

DN

i've always personally loved the Tupac conspiracies myself. i actually think he's alive for the reason that he's released more material posthumously than when he was alive. oh well...he's a good artist in my opinion, even though i don't particularly like rap, even though i'm a huge fan of eminem.

and it's awesome that carmen's in ny...hooray for ny!! (sorry...im an avid ny-er!) go see fahrenheit 9/11...such a great movie...and a terrible day for new yorkers, but it just shows the power of people helping people.

Hey Dave,
Just checking in, hope all is well with everybody.
Question, Syd-era Floyd? Do you like?

Check out Piper at the Gates of Dawn if you haven't, it's a psychedelic must!!!

Trip away, peace and love!

Hey Dave, any truth to the rumor that this new band is going to kick jane's addiction right square in the ass, and force the no-lifes on jane's addiction message boards to eat their negative words?

to Mr Navarro,

firstly thanks for answering my previous question. I was just wondering do you have a particular method or some sort of a sequence you undertake when writing songs and putting them together? i know songwriting is a bit spontaneous but, for instance when you were working on your solo material for trust no one, did you sit down and plan out how you were going to put the songs together, like maybe mess around with an acoustic guitar to make the basis of the song, and then pick up a bass and put together a bassline? Or were you working with a band? Also, any ideas for a band name? Im stuck. Oh, and can I take this opportunity, if it hasn’t been mentioned already, to personally thank you for taking the time and effort to interact with your fans and answer or questions. My respect for you has rose immensly.

All the best.

So pleased to hear the new music is coming together ... it sounds like you are having a great time. Can't wait to hear it.

If you like the x-files and conspiracy theories ...here's one I got into a big fight about the other day ..

Did they really land on the moon??

See ya

First of all, I think you having this site back up is totally awesome.. and DOUBLE thumbs up at your willingness to answer posts each day... much like I do on a much smaller scale via my online journal. Haha.

I said this in prior posts, but I will say again: I saw Janes in 2002 I think.. Seattle. It WAS AWESOME! I love the chemistry you all have up there. My favorite part was Chip Away. because you all four look like you have so much fun with that song! :D I have pics I can share if you want to see...??

Anyhow, my main question would have to be, out of all the links you get on these posts.. which i am sure you clicked a good many of them, what is the WEIRDEST one you have ever seen?

Also, I think like 7 years ago i found Perry's Phone # and address, out of teenage curiousity of course! Would you be able to tell me if its really it or not? I can email it to you. I wont post it for his sake, incase its real. =D I havent ever used it to call or write him because I was too scared.. haha. And if i found out it was realy, i probably would be even more afraid! lol.

When will you be in seattle and what for? I would love to meet you or at least see you perform anytime soon again.

--Bp

Ps-- Do you and Carmen plan on having kids?

Oh and thank you for the many files you share. You are a very talented man. Voice and guitar! <3

Hi Dave and all here!

thanks for answering my question about the tattoo.

To the freak6767: great logo dude, i also checked your site, its pretty cool.
Nice pics of the Manchester gig there.

About the people who apparently have nothing better to do than to desparately seek attention by posting crap - just ignore them, its the only way to make them lose interest.
Its always the same on any board...

And to Dave: I really like your voice and would be glad if you bring it on more on the new project.

Have a good time all,

Hey Dave

I love the sound of the new song titles - i bet they are gonna be awesome songs!
I was wondering if you are going to be doing any vocals on the new songs? I think you have a really great singing voice and you should consider taking lead vocals more often.

Nice to see you've no shame about having a stylist. Why be a rock star if you can't live like a rock star in peace eh?

Saying that, there's a story about you in your fucked up days leaving a message in blood on Fiona Apple's dressing room mirror. Is it true? And if so, what happened and did you ever get the chance to apologise (if one were needed. Hell for all we know she likes that sort of thing.)

Awesome Dave!

Many Thanks dave, for using the logo. I really appreciate it. I'll try to see if I can do some cool ones, but I'm not a graphist nore a Pro, it's just for fun and playin around wiv mac osx!

To *~Astrid~*: Thanx for your comments, I appreciate it too! I'll try to put online some new pix from that gig in manchester, and my mp3 covers from SlowMo or sunnyDayZ.

This community really rocks!

Hey Dave and Everyone!

You say your first tattoo was of a pig is that anything to do Floyd and their Pig?
As we have already established that we both and many others are Floyd fans, I thought this link may interest you, www.pinkfloydonline.com

Roger Waters is due to release a couple of new tracks online and they are looking to compile the top 20 tracks by Pink Floyd for a special edition of Q magazine.
What would your top 5 be Dave?
I'm trying to do this myself and finding that its quite hard to choose as I love so much of their work.

To the Gang, I love the vibe that we have going on here a BIG HUG goes out to you all!

Hey, Dave

The community vibe is awesome indeed...You know what? We DO rule! ;O)

And I love freak´s logo, man - so cool... In fact I have it as my wallpaper image on my PC right now!

About the new band...
I just downloaded a song called "Moving On" from Isaac´s site. I think the guy has a beautiful voice but honestly I felt his lyrics were...well...a bit... trite.

I think that you write stuff that´s a lot more interesting cos it´s real, dark, raw and PERSONAL as hell (rexall, slow motion sickness, everything - BTW, Dave, I just love the "tasting strawberry", "kissing purple vein" bit, I think the imagery is brilliant - so sexy, decadent, so f*cking wicked!)

Anyway...I hope you can team up with Isaacs to write the lyrics in order to steer things into a more interesting direction...Any plans to do that?

Oh yeah: and I hope that he doesn´t take offense if he´s reading this. Just my two cents here...

Hey Dave!

First of all I must thank you for making my dream come true. I've been dreaming of seeing a Jane's Addiction show since the early 90's and last November it finally happened! You see, I live in Finland so there weren't too many opportunities before you came to Stockholm, Sweden last fall. Having awaited seeing you guys for so long, I naturally had such high hopes and expectations that I was afraid of being disappointed but still you just shocked the earth beneath my f¤#*ing feet! And I thought that I couldn't be so amazed! I'm telling you, it was well-worth the 10+ years´ wait! Honestly, I can't find words strong enough to express my gratitude for the experience!

Speaking of 'gratitude', have you heard Pete DiStefano's new solo album, and if you have, what did you think of it? I noticed that many of the songs were the same ones he played with his band way back in the early 90's prior to him playing in Porno For Pyros.

Looking forward to traveling to L.A. some time soon and seeing you play with Camp Freddy or some other project! BTW, I admire the effort you're taking and making in warning your fans of the darker sides of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle by openly setting yourself and your positive experiences of healing (getting clean) as an example!

Good luck with your new projects!

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for the thumbs up about my post. I just wanted to CLARIFY, Daves original 6767 site did not go down because of harrassing posters. You'll have to ask Dave why it went down.

I was refering to Dave's original messageboards, there were several, they were at different websites. These boards were independent of his own website.

If I recall correctly, the original 6767.Com, also known as Spread Entertainment, didn't have a messagboard. It DID have an OPEN CHAT forum which was accessible 24 hours a day. You had to log on through 'Chat Planet'. Sometimes Dave would surprise us & be logged on to the chatroom.

This weblog is much different than Dave's old site. Dave was at a different place in his life at the time, the mindset of that website was definitely not as accessible as this weblog. The communication level was not this easy. I thank Dave for acknowledging his fans on this level, not many other famous 'rockstars' would be doing this.

Dave's old site was very original in it's approach to how Dave was communicating his thoughts to his fans at that particular time. Perhaps he can explain it better to you. The old 6767 was definitely about another time, another place in Daves life.

While it was an extremely revealing, highly personal & sometimes bizarre website, it expressed how Dave was feeling at that point in his life. It was his very personal view & artistic expression of where he was at that time. That's the best explanation I can give about the old 6767. It seems so long ago.

The only comparison I could give between this weblog & the original 6767, were the very personal short stories Dave wrote for that site & his current personal communication to his fans on this weblog. The big difference, of course, is his daily posting to us.

Tho, I have to admit, I definitely don't remember a messageboard at the old site!~~! lol

Hope I have cleared up my original statement about Dave's old messageboards.

A handful of looney people, who I would hardly categorize as 'fans', destroyed a very cool thing. PLEASE don't let that happen here.

Peace~!

Did you ever have any part of the lyrical writing for Jane's or was that always left to Perry?

Are there any songs, if so, that reflect your lyrics in Jane's?

WHat are some Jane's songs that the song writing process started with your riffs?

Hi Dave

I think it's great you take the time to connect with your fans it really means a lot. I have a question for you. Back in your Chili Pepper days I saw you play Wembley arena in London. It wsa an amazing gig (I especially enjoyed the cover of Fugazi's Waiting Room) and you sang one of the songs yourself, do you remember what the song was?

P.S. You should sing more you have a great voice.

Thanks to the freak for the Manchester pics I was at that gig too and it was an awesome show!

Peace

Matt ;o)

Dave,

As with your many collabs with people have you ever thought of doing something with MOS DEF? He's got a jazz/punk band besides his hip hop career and I always thought it would be cool to hear what you would come up with while jammin with someone like him.

Anyway thanks for answering our questions it just shows you're more down to earth then people give you credit for.

Itanja, thank you again!

I have seen that garbage on other websites where there is so much positive activity, and then some idiot can't stand it, they have to try to cause problems.

Anyways.........moving on

Dave how is that "wing and a prayer" method working for you?
(worked well for me, twice)

Everyone have a great day!!!!! :o)

Man, I need to get my ass down to the store and pick up the Velvet Revolver cd, you just can't let it come on the radio without cranking it up. Anyway, freAk, I especially like the community one with dave's face in the background of the spread logo, so cool. I bet today we'll get the comments into the triple digits, because there are already 30-some. Ok, well, that's all I have to say, I just heard the VR single on the radio and thought of Camp Freddy and Dave.

Hi Dave. Talking about Circle of the Noose. Why was it never released? is it true that it was a tribute song for nusrat fateh ali khan? Do you think that it will ever be made available for fans on a compliation or on the internet? Are there any other songs from the OHM sessions that haven't been released?

Have a great summer!

Hey Dave, first time posting. Nice site, I have a couple of questions.

1. Havent heard CF radio yet, does anyone post archive mp3's anywhere? Have you heard Henry Rollins show on 103FM? Its pretty cool, you can archive the shows here if anyones interested http://www.henrysharmonioushead.com/

2. I read somewhere recently that you were looking for vocalists for a semi completed CF record. Who have you recruited and or would like to still recruit?

3. Are there any quality Strays b-sides that might see the light of day? Great record by the way.

Thats it for now, thanks for the forum and keep up the rock.

Dave,
First off this is an awesome site. Its so cool that you respond to questions so quickly. So who do you think wins this contest: James Hetfield for his outstanding riffs or Kirk Hammett for his brilliant solos. You choose. Thanks a lot.

hey Dave,

i'm a huge red hot fan and was wondering if you regret making One Hot Minute or rather doing anything with the chili peppers? i read somewhere that you were very against the light bulb costumes that you wore for either lolapalooza or woodstock. Also do you still keep in touch with the rest of the guys? have you been to any of their shows recently? i was at their show in Edinburgh - truely amazing. :)

my sister is a huge fan of Janes Addiction and was at one of your shows last year or the year before and said it was fantastic!

you mentioned Kurt Cobain. i have read his journals and some facts about his death. i am a huge fan of his and NIRVANA and i appreciate what he has given to music. personally i think he was murdered and i dont believe that it was suicide. i think that there is too much evidence against suicide, but then thats simply my opinion. many others think differently.

anyways keep making good music!
