CFR/10

dave_spread_iconTonight from 6pm-8pm is Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1 (check the link for web simulcast) It'll be Billy Morrison from Doheny, Matt Sorum from Velvet Revolver and myself playing some music we love for a couple of hours, taking calls and discussing pretty much whatever we happen to think of. We also have a guest. Aimee Echo from theStart will be joining us for a half hour or so to talk about their new album and play us a few tracks. We always have a really great time!

Just got home from the studio. It's 3:00am, so here are a quick ten questions.

1. any chance of us hearing a preview of what youve been working on sometime?

Yes, I will let you know when we will sneak a demo into the radio show. Should be within the next two weeks or so.

2. Dave:- in a MTV programme called 'At Home with the Chilis' or something, it looked like you had a latex number on??

Yeah, this time looks were not deceiving.

3. Were you ever in any advanced or "gifted" classes back when you were in school?

I actually never graduated from high school.

4. What are your favorite movies/tv shows?

Movies: Anything Woody Allen, TV: Anything crime oriented-documentary or fictional.

5. Any chance you might be writing your short essays on life, love and music again?

A few of those are actually included in the book that is due out in October or November. I'll try to get some newer stuff up.

6. What ever happened to that gold custom Ibanez with the Ultrasonics?

A photographer friend of mine named Chris Cuffaro has what's left of it.

7. Do you have a favorite author Dave?

No, but I like a lot of memoir type stuff. Right now my favorite book is called Wasted, A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia by Marya Hornbacher. Really an intense read.

8. Im going to hound you on that Danelectro, until one day you respond. What kind is it and what recordings, if any did it make it onto?

I am sorry man, I honestly don't know specifically. I know I used it on the Trust No One album quite a bit.

9. Tabs. A lot of questions about tabs.

I don't really have any and I am not even sure how to do it, but I will look into it.

10. It would be wonderful to see you at a UK festival in a year or two, any chance of it happening?

We definitely want to go to Europe, and I suppose we plan to, but first things first. We need to finish the record.

OK. Goodnight. Thank you for checking in.

Dave

Even though you never graduated from high school, did you end up getting your GED???

Posted by: stonegrl at July 3, 2004 04:17 AM

i discovered this blog visting the jane's addiction website. It would be amazing to share opinions with my favourite players!
i'm so amazed that i can't even formulate an original question (the 11th or the 12th if we are counting the fashionable "jeans" curiousity).
i just stay blessed like arunja in front of divine revelation! hoping to have a feedback i continue to give you all the respect and love a young italian architect can give!

hey there,

just to say really that Dave i believe you to be my role model. Your journey through life is truely inspiring and proves that you just have to make it your own.

Your "Trust NoOne" albulm helps me through times and puts everything into perspective.

Did you ever look upto a role model of your own?

Posted by: Sophia at July 3, 2004 06:30 AM

thanx again to have time to answer the questions here. And now I'm happier than ever since you answered about Europe.....sure I know that you need to finish the record first, but I'm so so happy to know that you guys want to come to Europe as well!! It's great to know it! Believe me.
Thanx for your time and answers.

Dave,

As a recovering heroin addict, do you still get mental or physical cravings for it? How difficult was the withdrawal? Did you go through detox?

Hey Dave...Being an artist I always love music I respond to visually the most. Usually I feel I can actually "see" (besides feel of course) your playing (solo in "Pigs In Zen" being a perfect example) somewhere around me. So I ask who are your favorite visual artists?

Posted by: Aron at July 3, 2004 08:28 AM

Dave you might not believe this, but at 28 I've never been to a concert before (My husband calls me a virgin) Anyways I was really hoping to hear you play in the Seattle area. Is there any chance you would be there any time this year, or next? One other comment for Carmen. My girlfriends and I grew to LOVE her on Till death' She is sweet and incredibly funny, I hope you let her know how lucky you are on a daily basis. :o)

Hey Dave,
I just had a question but I'm not sure if you know that answer, but its worth a try. Have you heard the tapes from when Stephen, flea, and john frusciante played under the name 3 amoebas and does stephen have any thoughts of releasing this material.
Thank you so much.

Posted by: amy at July 3, 2004 08:38 AM

so sorum will be back tonight! i do believe that the sorum/navarro/morrison combo makes for Great Radio.

also, i saw 'floundering.' nice pants.

Posted by: acacia at July 3, 2004 10:29 AM

Matt Sorum? Awesome. I'll be listening...

Posted by: Nora at July 3, 2004 11:46 AM

Wow!! i love you dave! you take the time to answer personal questions of your fans and to read ALL of your comments...that just shows what a fantastic, caring person you are! and the poster above is absolutely right...Carmen seems like such a nice, genuinely sweet person...I'm glad you found someone so great. Thanks for all you do and you'll continue to do!

Posted by: blondimofo at July 3, 2004 01:54 PM

quick question i forgot to write: do you ever look back on photo's from early Jane's days and cringe (although i wouldn't think you'd be able to cringe at yourself, you're THAT good looking)? i think we all look back at some point in our lives and say "what the hell were we thinking?" just wanted to know if you do the same

Posted by: blondimofo at July 3, 2004 01:56 PM

I'll have to check out Marya Hornbacher, sounds cool.:-) I agree with everyone above, I loved Carmen on 'Til Death Do Us Part too - she was so nice the whole time. Did you and Carmen watch the show every week? I did ;-) Maybe it would be weird to watch yourself though.

On the front cover of Strays you are wearing a Motley Crue t-shirt - have you ever considered covering a Motley song? If so, which would you like to do? Oh yeah, and which is your fave Motley album?

Thanks Dave!

Dave-

Could you please clear something up. All over the internet there are different reports on your actual height: anywhere from 5'6 to 5'10. Just exactly how tall are you? We'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Much love,

Bob

I'm 6'1...how about the rest of you

Posted by: Cheese at July 3, 2004 05:43 PM

once you guys start posting demos and stuff, will you please consider us mac people who hate real player and loath winmedia. quicktime is the only way to go...i am very curious to hear at least one song with this new singer very soon...

where you ever considering join "velvet revolver" when they were putting that together? i noticed dave was touring with you during yr solo tour and you play with matt and slash in camp freddy.

Posted by: sonny at July 3, 2004 06:08 PM

You know what would be so great for Camp Freddy Radio? You guys should bring your insruments and play live on the show. If you haven't already done that... when did Camp Fredy radio start? I'm glad I came here and found out about it. You guys play great stuff!

Thanks for taking time out for this site, we really appreciate it.

Hey! I listened to Camp Freddy Radio tonight and it was great, I really enjoyed it. However, being from KANSAS I was offended when Matt made the comment about not getting breakfast or us not knowing about egg whites. He also used a hick accent when talking about 'us' and I must inform you, we do not have accents here. I just thought that was a unfair misrepresentation and I DO know about egg whites and healthy stuff, so there!!

Sorry about that rant, just had to clear things up and defend my home. But it doesn't mean you lost a fan. I still think you guys rock and I'll still be listening and posting!!!

Posted by: cors at July 3, 2004 06:52 PM

Hey

living in the uk and being able to listen to camp freddy radio online is pure quality stuff!

you guys play an array of music which is great stuff.

keep it coming!

Dave:

Wow, it's so awesome of you to take the time to read and respond to your fans' questions and thoughts! Anyway, I just recently bought RHCP's "One Hot Minute" and I have to say, your guitar work on that album was amazing and I just wanted to commend you on that because you brought something new and refreshing to the Chili Peppers's music and I know that back in the day, your contributions were not all that well received. So, rock on! And I know I'm going to sound all geeky but dude, words cannot express how much I love "ocean size," that song rocks so much!!

So what bands/albums are you currently listening to?!

Posted by: soma at July 3, 2004 08:06 PM

Hey great show guys. I wanted to call in and win some of that $ u was givin away but never caught the number...Dave, hey radio is ur thang Papi, u guys sounded sooo sexy!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Colleen at July 3, 2004 08:30 PM

Yeah, it was a great show, lactating strippers and all. Dave really seemed to like that story!

Greetings to Matt Scrotum if he's reading.
;)
Velvet Revolver RULES!

Posted by: Mortisha8 at July 3, 2004 08:32 PM

Oh, and I just wanted to say I knew the answer to the question of what album did Dave and Aimee both appear on (One Hot Minute- Aimee did backup vocals on One Hot Minute and One Big Mob), but I didn't get through :(

oh well, maybe next time :)

dave...just a couple of question.
when I met Twiggy years ago (94) in New Orleans...he was kind of a snob. He had candy cane stockings and dock martins. I rememeber telling hime you look like dave navarro 86 dude. Now Ive hung with him recently and he is very cool. have you ever thought of shaving the goatie and getting the cornbrades again????
I saw you guys at tipitinas 1989 i think and then i saw you at the blue crystal later that night. Jane's changed my life. You played with love and rockets.

One more ? Why PRS guitars?? I think they are great...but everyone from creed to nickleback are using them and it seems like a trend. why not do your own design, or the ibanez you used to use in Janes. I think the music man you used at the end of janes was perfect.

Hey Dave,
I'm going to have to check out this camp freddy radio thingie.

BTW, thanks for answering my question about you in school. Maybe I wasn't clear about what I was asking. I knew that you didn't graduate high school and that you had your share of trouble, shall we say, back in those days. (I think I've read everything that was ever written about you in print and online! :))

Revised Question: I was referring more to your earlier school days. You're obviously a VERY bright and talented person; and I was wondering if people (like teachers & parents) recognized that in you when you were younger. Or were you more of a "late bloomer"?

Whatever the case, you've been blooming and blossoming beautifully for quite some time now. :) Keep on rocking!

Sincerely,
-Denise

Posted by: Denise at July 3, 2004 11:07 PM

Dave-
I was wondering if you would be so kind as to name what songs you guys played on CFR tonight. The show was great but I only had time to listen to part of it. Rock on.
-Sue

Posted by: sue at July 4, 2004 12:57 AM

Unfortunately i couldn't listen to the show last night... the link did not work ...or maybe its just me...?!

I wonder whether we will hear a word from Chris and Steve here too? Come on guys !
I listened to Steve's demo from his site a minute ago and have to say he has a great great voice.

Now even more: i can't wait to hear the new stuff!

Posted by: Warped at July 4, 2004 04:23 AM

Dave, as a fellow guitarist, could you help me?
I already own an Epiphone Les Paul, so i am at the moment on the hunt for a singlecoil guitar. Will it be worth it? (I play almost everything from Iron Maiden and Sabbath, over Jane's and RHCP, to JImi and Led Zeppelin. I also play funk and jazz)
And if it's worth it, what would you recommend?

Can't wait 'til you put out something new. Jane's Addiction is greatly missed here, already!
Rock on, and hold on to your hat and glasses
Christian!

hey buttmonkey, pay attention and maybe you wouldnt post such irrelevent shite.i asked a general question about what exactly daves done, tried to do or created recently thats so great that warrents such virtual asskissing and such hostility towards perry. but i doubt youn can think of anything other then maybe his visionary work in the realms of reality tv or perhaps his amazing fasion critiqing abilty. so unless you can come up with something more than a half arsed overdone unrelated response please ignore my posts and let me rant in peace.
