20/20

dave_spread_icon1. As for a question. Do you ever wear shirts and/or do you own any?

Sure, I do. I know I must have a couple around here somewhere...

2. does that mean PRS have now made your very own signature guitar instead of a stock 24

No, we have been talking about it but the ones in the ad are just the custom shop ones they make for me.

3. OH, which leads me to 1 last thing -- why do you call her mouse?

Because she is so small.

4. would you ever consider Internet collaboration recording on a song or three or more with the musician folk on here/posting them here

Totally! The only problem is that I don't have Logic or Pro Tools at home. I would still like to hear what would happen if you all did something like that. When we get closer to recording, I'll ask for some files and I will for sure join in.

5. Do you have a process of how you create the vocal melody to go with lyrics you write?

When I write songs, I kind of do it all at once. I let the music dictate the lyrics and melody.

6. But seriously which country/place in Europe do you like most? You must have seen a lot during all the years of touring.

England, France, Austria

7. The front and back cover of TNO features symbolic physical representations of the letters "T" and "O". Is the "T" a mystical reference to "TAO" for you?

I would love to say yes, because I would seem so deep, but sadly, no.

8. I was wondering when you're "down" what picks you up and motivates you?

Being of service to others. When I am down, I try to do something for someone else.

9. (Nipple piercing) Its been about 4 months, but sometimes they are still a bit sore. Does that still happen to you, or are yours fully healed?

Well, I have had mine for over 10 years but I remember them taking up to 9 months to fully heal. It is a process for sure.

10. Dave... you say you don't read music so I am curious how you go about making a solo? Do you simply have all the scale patterns memorized or is it a lot of trial and error?

Kind of what you said. Scales and trial and error. After a while you can just kind of "feel" what the right choices are.

11. Just wondering who took that amazingly beautiful picture of you and Carmen behind the piano in your home?

A photographer from Rolling Stone. I am sorry but I do not remember his name.

12. theory or feeling; which floats yer boat?

I'd say a little of each and mostly luck.

13. but do you use any special pickups or just stock?

I go stock.

14. you were in rehab and trying to go clean but it didn't make you feel any better on an emotional level so you relapsed and started using again. Do you ever still get those feelings and how did you overcome them because you look like you have obviously gotten past that.

Well, the truth is that when I went to rehab back then, they suggested a lot of things that would help me. I chose to ignore those things and naturally I did relapse. The problem back then was me, not the facility. Since then, I have allowed myself to be "teachable" and take the required action to live a happy, joyous and free life. Thank you for the question. I'd hate to think that I unknowingly said something negative about a place so important to people like that, without clearing it up.

15. ¿If offered, would you ever do a Pete Steele and pose for Playgirl?

Well, I don't know who Pete Steele is, but I would probably decline such an invitation. In fact, when I was in the Chili's I was in fact asked to do a spread. I said no thank you.

16. Since you got to see a bit of APC on palooza, just wondering what you thought of Billy Howerdel?

Those guys were so rocking. Twiggy, Maynard, Josh and James have been friends for years. I met Billy on this last tour and was blown away by him.

17. Ever considered life without the beard?!

Yes, When I pack it all in and move to Montana or something like that to live out my golden years. It is funny, but after so long, it just doesn't feel like me without it.

18. what do you think of Mansons music?

He is one of my all time favorite people and artists.

19. This video is such a trip, it really strikes me differently each time I see it...whose concept was it?

The concept was the brain child of me and Gavin Bowden. Gavin is a fairly well known video director who I met back in the RHCP days. He also happens to be Flea's brother-in-law.

20. Is that you singing backup vocals during the long middle section of One Big Mob on One Hot Minute?

Yes, it is.

Peace,

Dave

Peter Steele is the lead singer of the band Type O Negative, who have produced such classic albums as Origin of the Feces, Slow Deep and Hard and Bloody Kisses. Check them out, Origin of the Feces is the greatest fake Live album in the history of music.

Really dig the site Dave and love the interaction you give with your fans. its still kind of rare to see it as often as you are posting and replying to questions. It has made this site a daily visit for me. What sites do you visit on a daily basis? do you ever check out the reviews that people write about your music?

Dave,

Would you guys ever consider doing a Dead cover when you play live? I know that you and especially Perk have been Dead fans. I think that your version of Ripple is the best song on that Dead tribute album. I really love how you subtly worked in The Other One and the Bird Song lick into the song! Very, very cool.

Just wondering,

Eric

Thanks for answering the question about the shirts Dave. I was worried and had a care package of shirts ready if you needed it..

.. and I'm of course just fucking with you. Cheers though.

Oh, and I want to get in on this song or whatever that we're going to make here. I've been playing for like 5 years. I've got a few chord progressions we could go off if you guys want me to post one. I think it'd be cool to start bare bones and just have everyone's ideas totally transform like 3 chords into a monumental shitstorm. Or something not as apocalyptical sounding. I'll try and get something together.

So how cool is it that your wife is in DefJam: Fight for NY? I personally can't wait for the game. What do you think about Carmen being in it?

XXXXXXX

Hey Dave,

Been living in the La Brea/Melrose area for many years now and you know, I got my favorite Hollywood bums and crazies. I'm sure some of the kids reading this would dig to hear about the Sunset Blvd Army guy, the late Hollywood Button Lady, the dude outside Manns with the radio/styrofoam/plant contraption on his head. One of my favs was the Lava Rock Lady (not homeless, just very eccentric)who lived about 2 blocks from me, now she's gone. We got a guy that always sleeps by Highland and Melrose that wears white or pink tights. There is a full on kook in Beverly Hills with black tights, a radio and roller skates. Amazes me how day after day, year after these people struggle it out on the street. Just wondering if you had any in favorite homeless that pique your interest?

I agree with you, man. Send me your chord progressions and I´ll try to hum something on top of them till we come up with a song. What do you say?

I couple of days ago, people were asking about you working with Chris Cornell, and that reminded me of the supergroup that I created that included you. Now how would this sound for a one time project:

Vocals-Chris Cornell
Rhythm guitar-Dave Grohl
Lead guitar-You!
Bass-P. Nut
Drums-Jimmy Chamberlain

I think if anything were to come from that I would finally be able to die a happy man. Keep it real, Dave.

Posted by: americanzer0 at July 29, 2004 12:08 PM

Wow-that question about "your favorite homeless person" was original. I personally saw a strung out, pregnant crack-mom in the street today, so sad.

Count our blessings!!!

Here's my URL again for you D/ Everyone...(www3.telus.net/scottmcm/MUSIC.htm.)I have two songs on garageband.com to listen to..Would be nice to get access to some songs that everyone else have so we all could get a rough idea of what the 'playing field' sounds like. Suppose we all hafta be using the same software??...Could be a logistical nightmare if were using Mac's and Pc's, Pro-tools, LogicPro, Cubase..the works, no? maybe mailing tracks around to each other, dwnlding on the MSN I dunno(I'm available to add some drums, guitar, bass, vocals)....I do know how to dump cassette track to the computer if anyone needs that help I'd be happy to do that for you...I'd better get myself on FreAks MSN list so F, hope you read this and please put me on= zappaismyelvis@hotmail.com
Big ups Dave! Here's to all uf us! I can't wait to hear the skills you all have and the music we're all gonna make here....

heLLo!

Managed to dig that one out..!

http://ju7ienjcxnet.free.fr/6767/ConfusingFreAk.jpg

Enjoy!

As far as this Cyber Song, don't forget to all agree on the main tempo 1st thing, coz we're all gonna work on different platform (thats for sure) and its gonna be a hard job already, so the last thing we need is a tempo issue.
Transfering files is gonna be an other one, especially if you av audio instruments in it (Midi soft, synth, plugs, samplers).(synchro to be done)

To the ppl concerned (for the cyber song), email each other, so we can share ideas on how to..

You seem like the coolest guy and I have some pretty cool ideas for a band if you are ever interested in doing another side project. I am a singer with pretty kick ass vocals with a preference for music with a harder edge. hey again D,
any chance you could post a link on the face of your site so that all the musicians(hi tech and low tech)that want to be involved could congregate and share their sounds, files, ideas...in order to keep this thing focussed + as something that you yourself could have to sift through and play with whenever you wanted to...that way we could share and write tracks with each other and this would freee you up to listen and pick and choose whatever struck your ears (to contribute to) at any given point in time... you know, a collecting point???

Thanks for the Venus vid Dave much appreciated.

Misty, sorry to hear about your car troubles, I believe in the power of Karma, so these people will be dealt with, you can be sure of that.

I just watched a programme on 101 embarrassing sexual accidents and wow what some peeps will do to get their kicks, one guy decided to have sex with a melon, pretty harmless you might think, until it is heated up in the microwave (!?!) he ended up with 3rd degree burns on his penis!! He was also ordered to stay away from the fruit bowl!!:)

On a completely different note, Dave do you like to read? Which books do you recommend?

Be happy everyone,
Just remember melons have feelings too!:)

Hey All! Dave, "When I pack it all in and move to Montana" hehe I live in montana currently... it's ok, but very boring as you might assume. It's so funny with celebrities here, we have a couple that own houses here like Ted Turner and Dennis Quade (sorry dont know the spelling) and whenever they come into town to do anything they are mobbed. A few weeks ago there was this HUGE thing because people thought they saw Pamela Anderson at a car show in town... so yeah, if you want neverending, sad humor, montana is the place to be, lol.

On another note, luiz youre not off the hook yet... i know dave will help us out (WINK, please dave??)... hehe ok ill stop now...

so this is what happens to me when i have insomnia? i find dave navarro on the web! :O amazing. how did i get here? i'm keeping up to date with what the red hot chili peppers are doing, and followed some links.
dave, would you ever teach guitar?
i'm 37 and i just started learning. i have a great teacher. 2 months so far. i've been really involved in the music scene, and making wierd music, and used to live in san francisco, but it all got too wild. that was back in the late 80's, early 90's, and when i got more into the chili pepper's. jane's addiction. they just had beavis and butthead movie on tv here, and it freaked me out. so now i have rollercoaster stuck in my head. and it's so bizarre i found this place after i just saw that on tv! hi everyone. i'm in wales now. great to see you all.

My husband (bassist), and me (guitarist), would like to participate in the whole "monumental shitstorm or something not as apocalyptical" online musical collaboration. We use a PC, and have both Logic and Cubase, so either would work for us, but I'm confused about how we're going to go about this and make it work. The idea sounds awesome though. I think we're about to embark on some SERIOUS technological groundbreaking here...
