A Day Off

dave_spread_iconToday was a day off so there really isn't much to report. We start up tomorrow again and are going to begin putting together some kind of media or art or something for the site. Next week we will be able to put the finishing touches on the stuff we started in the studio with Danny Saber. Also, just so you know, we close the comments for old posts and leave only a couple at a time open, usually the newest one or two. It's just easier for us to keep track of all of your comments and interactions.

Dave,

Quick Q & A:
Angels or Dodgers? McDonald's or Burger King? Van Halen or Van Hagar? Trojans or Lifestyles? Do musicians receive residuals when their songs are played on the radio or on MTV, FUSE etc?

Just bein' nosy.

Quick question:

What's with all the fan interaction nowadays compared to the mystery of the Jane's days?

Posted by: esqfool at June 24, 2004 11:21 PM

Dave and Perkins thanks for all the great music over the years. Much respect to both of you.
I find that smoking weed increases my musical creativity. Do u guys smoke before you play?

"What's with all the fan interaction nowadays compared to the mystery of the Jane's days?"

I would like to know that too...pretty interesting that there's more interaction with the fans

Posted by: Sad at June 25, 2004 12:17 AM

Yeah there has been a lot more interaction with fans for a while though.... The interaction at the Janes UK shows last November made it kind of special me and I know a lot of people that feel the same way

Sounds like the begining of an exciting new phase.

Pick out a rune now, and it will undoubtedly be Berkana - new beginings...

There is something so wonderful about getting a load of new inspiration. I've found this out recently and am dying to get into a studio soon.

Best of Luck

Hey Dave,

awesome to see the site back up...

was just wondering if you had any material from the new band that you feel ready to post on the site for download (even just demo-ish stuff)

that would be cool

Hello, Dave!

It's great that this site is up again, I can't wait untill you have worked more on it. Great job.

I just read in the newspaper that Jane's Addiction has gone seperat ways, which made my a little bit sad. As I live in Sweden I saw you guys made a great concert here in October last year. Thank you so much for the best experience in my life(and for throwing your plectrum near me so that I could have it, it's now on my wall along with some pictures on you:) so nice)

So.. remember Sweden next time you'll be coming to Europe for a tour or something..

Wish you the best Dave & keep up the good work!:D

Stephen,

Any chance of Banyan touring Australia in the near future? It'd be awesome, we feel a little neglected down here!

Thrilled to see the site back up. I've been dipping in and out since its creation (especially when bored at work). Was an e-mail friend of Dominique (the Australian girl who sometimes interviewed you). You sent me an e-mail about life on Mars (you thought there had been I thought there hadn't). You seem so much happier now.
I was the only Brit posting on the two sites (this and Jane's) so glad to see some more have joined.
Please advertise on this site when any project from any of you goes on tour (especially to London) or I'm likely to miss it!!!

Hey, Dave

After reading some of the past comments saying that you’re a poor singer I gotta disagree with them. Your voice was a pleasant surprise for me way before TRUST NO ONE came out. Yeah, cos I had already downloaded your version of The Bed from Audiogalaxy (great! Now both you and Lou Reed are gonna sue me for stealing your music! LOL) I loved your singing style the minute I heard it. I think your voice is smooth and sexy as hell which really makes a difference in a genre that is filled with motherfuckers screaming but not always the RIGHT, cool way...

But what I really, really like about your singing is that there’s such an undercurrent of darkness to it (gee, now THAT was a REAL surprise! LOL!) Your emotional depth makes every note you sing resonate with so much poignancy and meaning... Lately I´ve been listening to Slow Motion Sickness a lot. Take that final bit for instance... The way you repeat “sometimes I don´t feel so good over and over in a frail falsetto... It gives me the chills. I can really relate to that feeling. So godammit, I hate to repeat myself, but man you do indeed RULE.

Okay, this was my lengthy fan-boy introduction... Now here’s a question for ya:

Will you be singing any songs in this new band you’re working with now? Or at least some harmonies and stuff? Cos I think it would be a shame if your vocal talents weren’t used in this project as well.

Another thing I wanna ask is... Have you ever considered recording your own version of some reaaaally old school shit like a Cole Porter tune or something? I say that cos I remember a short clip of you humming “Fly me to the Moon whilst pissing in some venue´s bathroom (Madison Square Garden?) and it was just so fucking cool... I do think you kind have an old school “crooner voice but in a very twisted, personal way... So it would be great if you sang something like “There will never be another you mixing a bit of that romantic naivete from the 40´s with the rampant cynicism of our Age... Oh yeah... I heard Chet Baker singing that song the other day and I just thought to myself: “gee, I wonder what someone could do to that tune just by adding a dash of irony to the right words... The contrast would be beautiful. If anyone could pull this off I think that would be you, man. Question is: do you like that kind of music at all?

As usual, thanks for your time and kindness.

Love from
Luiz.

Still dying to hear the new stuff..

Lately the only things keeping me sane are Nothings Shocking and Primus "Frizzle Fry" and The Mars Volta.

So some new music is gonna be killer even if I have to wait another year for it.

Hey Dave: Just curious...what would you say the overall "sound" of the new band is?

Posted by: Louis at June 25, 2004 05:39 AM

dave,

what's the possibility of doing another record with eric? are you good on terms together? deconstruction is one of my favourite records ever, and in my humble opinion the most original 'progressive' album of the 90's. i hope one day you take off from where you guys left off.

love from london.

dave....thanx for all the infos, you're great man.
it's s o sweet you have time to read comments and even answer them. thanx again.
i'd like to ask you : do you think there will be any chance in the future to see you back in europe? and as europe i don't mean only uk, but even other countries like france, germany, italy, sweden etc.
thanx for your time.

love you so much***

David, you are still the same long haired, zubaz pants wearing, insecure geek you've always been no matter how much make-up you cake on, or how many 2nd rate celebrity duche-bags you marry. And Stephen after everything perry has done for you.... you have become the biggest dissapointment of all.
With effectivly replacing Farell & Avery with Chaney and Isaacs you must be using again, thats how ridiculous this venture is. The music you're working will be a joke no matter how "obese" you consider it to be.
Look at your track records, Dave's solo work, RHCP and Deconstruction? All mediocre tripe. Banyan is only slightly more enjoyable. I could fart with more rhythm.
So good luck all of you, Perry is better off without the 3 of you stabbing him in the back. I hope the album is everthing you hope it is, although I'll never listen to the Van Halen-isation of the band I considered sacred.

Posted by: shawn at June 25, 2004 06:49 AM

Chris, Dave, Spooky, and Steve:
Get tribal!
No videos please, Gene Simmons has it right, men are the most loyal audience, don't cater to the girlies!

The rest of you:
Perry is 50 yrs old and barely sing, who wants to see him whisper out "Mountain Song" for the umpteenth time---IT'S OVER and you're OLDER!

Posted by: Kevin at June 25, 2004 07:46 AM

Perk, Can't wait to get you back to Denver for another Banyan show (and hopefully, a show with this new band)!!! Love your style man! But make sure you tell the producers (and dave...no more "nu metal" Dave, please :)) to bring out your drums and toms more on this new CD. You got buried on Strays man. Especially the song Strays when you come in pounding the toms. I wanna feel like your drums are pounding through my chest when I listen! But that's just my $.02 as a fellow drummer. LOL. Hope all is well!

Peace, Love and Herbal Healing!

QUIT LIVING IN THE PAST! Perry is a DJ now. Pay attention. He doesn't care about rocking out.

Too bad a great rock band had to fade out this way. Great big ego's itty bitty living space. It was great while it lasted, so thanks for the great tunes and good luck on your future music.

ps Please, please stop the whole MTV crap. Why in the hell are you on a game show? Do not lower yourself by sitting next to Jessica Simpsons ugly sister doing some stupid fashion show. Just play music and be yourself. Stop catering to all this starfucker crap.

I read about this band in the news today. I find it fasinating that when you do something important...example helping charity...no one comments or gives you a second glance. Then they breath a whisper that compells them to beleave you have affected Perry Farrell...and there you are. In the news.
Nice to see the site back.

What covers have your cover band been doing, Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven is quite a great one to cover not to hard one to perform, but it's another to write a song as beautiful as that. It's just a thought a do you have your own label?

Posted by: Robert mercury at June 25, 2004 11:07 AM

just a note to say: You F*ing Rock!!
and a few questions (even though I'll probably die of excitement if you answer)

Do you really not know much actual guitar theory? if so, how the F*uck did you get so good!? How long were you playing before you started playing in bands?

Id also like to say, even though you get shit for the stuff you did with Christina Ag etc. I think your open mindedness, and will to play with artists who arent particularly rockers or whatever, is part of what makes you one of the coolest dudes that ever lived. yes, I sound like an obsessive teeny bopper, yes, Im going to shut up now.

Everybody loves Jane's. I remeber the old days too..Dave you are still one of my drum idols. You are up there in the top rock drummers of all time. I won't even disrespect you by comparing you except to a peer like fish from fishbone. You guys gave me something to shoot for when i was just starting to get my chops together and I thank you for that! I met you and Perry back in 89' the last night of the John Anson ford show and you guys were pretty cool. People talk about Jane's being mysterious back in the day, and I think you were, but back then if you lived in Hollywood or Silverlake you would run into stray members of the the big 3 bands (you, fishbone and RHCP) and those guys were generally pretty down to earth cats.

Perry, I remember when you were a scary looking person in Hollywood, I saw PSI-COm open for the Minutemen in the parking lot of that Big Weenies are better hot dog stand. Shit Duudes, I feel old just writing this, but I'm sure after the countless shows you have played in your career it is kewl to know that we fans of Jane's still remember the humble beginnings and rise to greatness. What I'm trying to say is you Muth*&^%kers kick some hollyrockin' bitch ass and you probably will in your goddamn rocking chairs.

Hi Dave and friends,

I'm not normally the type to get into all of this, but I'd just like to say that ultimately it doesn't matter what any of them say at all- or me either, for that matter. Entertain yourselves, guys. {"do what you will, but not because you must"} Feedback is cool, and fan interaction is cool,
but I just can't belive all of the people that try to use this to get on here and give you advice or tell you you're stupid for this or that- like they know what it's like, or what's best for you.... keep on keepin' on. I'll love ya no matter what.

Hey guys,
I just found this info about the new project on the net and was excited for you guys. I have been a fan since the first janes CD. Although I am sure that I had it on tape at the time. ha... Anyway, I just wanted to say I am psyched about another incarnation. I have followed things for a long time and met Dave here in Indianapolis at one of your free shows for your solo CD. Very cool I wanted to get a signature, but only had a $10 bill and you signed that for me, very cool... So anyway enough ranting. Good luck with the band and I look forwarding to hearing what you guys come up with.

Posted by: Chris at June 25, 2004 11:34 AM

to the idiot, anti-shawn.

obviously you did'nt listen to strays because if I remember correctly (and I do)songs like true nature, price I pay, the riches, strays and quite a few other songs on that album ROCKED. No spinning was required. So as you are some kind of self-admitted imbecile, I'll educate you right now. All of Dave's and for that matter Perky's music away from Perry is at best, something you might listen to if trapped in hell for an eternity and werent allowed to claw your fucking ear-drums out. Who cares how old Farrell is? The man rocks and when him and Peter D reform Porno 4 Pyros or whatever they choose to call it, it will blow the doors off of this shit heap these poseurs are working on.

Bank on that.

Its weird people coming to your site to bitch about you, and also highly illogical. But then as the song says, people are strange. Anywho, you are by far the most bedable geek Ive ever seen...

Sorry about that, Im extremely trashed, and only abut one more beer away from declaring my undying love for/ kicking off on all the people who have been posting here, plus I was supposed to be somewhere else almost 3 hours ago... So I should just keep it short and say thanks to you all (including the rather lovey Mr Farrell) for not fucking it all up with a shit album, if there was one band I could have relied on never to disappoint me it was you guys - may have to rethink that now tho ;) Seriously, thanks for the memories and the music!

BTW whats with all the baby talk? Did I miss something?

Posted by: A at June 25, 2004 05:29 PM

Sorry, back again - hehehe.
But between here and the Janes board everyone is really fucking negative! Now I've already had the shit kicked out of me tonight so I just want to ask you to quit bitching at each other and just go out and get laid, get drunk, get high, but dont go out and punch nice little girlies like me, and dont sit and rip into each other... Lifes way too fucking short!

Dave,

It's cool that you're moving on and all that but I never much cared about any of your work with anyone but Perry Farrell. You flat out sucked in the Chili Peppers. Anyway, Perry seems to bring a creativity and swagger out in you that I just don't see in any of your other projects. I took the news rather hard that Jane's was over. So excuse my bluntness. Anyway, here's to Perry rocking on without you and those other two guys.

Late!

dave navarro... people wonder why other people come to people's sites to give them criticism or to slag them... i do it because i have no other way of finding you. i don't care what the excuse, the reason, or rhyme or whatever was for you being a bull shit lame ass poser ass wanna be rock star this last year, but it sure as hell took the piss out of my favorite band of all time. the nerve, the grief, the shame. you know, perry is as old as my dad and i think he is far more relevant and important than any mr. carmen electra. you haven't made one good decision since the chili peppers and i ain't lookin for you to make one now. flea still rocks tho. i hope i come across one of your body parts in a pawn shop, god knows you would sell it for the right price. turd. you probably won't even reply to this so just go j-j-j-jump in the lake. the james young

Jane's Addiction was more than a band. it was an entity of its own.

Because of that alot of people saw passed your crap.
(Me included)
Playing with Michael Jackson for fucks sake. and now you say Jay-Z is your boy.
You don't get a pass now my man. Ya fucked up good.

UGH.

At least the ICE-T thing Perry did back in the day was tasteful.

I don't know what to say. This post will probably be deleted.
I can only hope Perk did this because you are old friends, and you wanted to work with him...who knows.

I think its obvious your real estate value had plummited.

Have fun with MTV.

If Jane's is gone for good that's sad, I loved Strays - so full of joy, especially Dave's guitar - but you know, nothing lasts forever and it's hard to be negative when you guys are so obviously excited about what is coming next.
I have two questions:
Dave, any plans to sing with the new band or are you going to leave that all to the new Steve? Just curious. I loved Trust No One. I think you have a great voice and would love to hear more.
And - as far as I know - Camp Freddy has only played shows in the US. Will the cd be available all over or just in the US?
Great to see the website back up and running and I look forward to whatever is coming ...

"dave navarro... people wonder why other people come to people's sites to give them criticism or to slag them... i do it because i have no other way of finding you."

Fair enough, dude.

I was just wondering...If you COULD in fact find him... Would you say it to his face?

My guesss is you wouldn´t.

But what do I know? I´m but a worthless fan-boy. And worse still, one who believes that you can like someone´s art even if you don´t approve EVERY SINGLE choice of his.

Let me give you an example: I do think that Michael Jackson nowadays is tacky as hell (not to mention veeeery controversial in the worst possible way) - but if Dave wanted to play with him, well he probably had his reasons - I respect them. And if the reasons were MONEY, fucking great! I work for it every day. I can assure you, as long as you ain´t killing or stealing, there´s no shame in it, pal. And Dave wasn´t doing either, killing or stealing. He was just using his talent the way HE chose to at that particular moment. Come to think of it, a person has all the right in the world to do exaclty that, don´t you think so? Yes, you do. Great. I knew you would come to your senses sooner or later. Now I´m done.

Okay, as usual, Dave and everyone else, thank your for your time.

Over and out.

okay, but could you guess again? i got about 25 pounds on dave. not scared. i am a musician and have been doing so professionally for at least 12 years. i have recorded many cds and appeared on other's works and have quite a few live shows under my belt. i regret none of it and wouldn't hide from one note i have wrung out of my guitar. dave prolly played on NSYNC's last disc and had an assumed name. what i wouldn't do to get into a room with dave to ask him these things. to offer my opinion. we could even let mtv tape the whole fucking thing. peace out niggers.
